If you meant that you wanted to switch off the screen without putting the XDA on standby, here's how. Just assign one of the buttons to "Screen Toggle" when Windows Media Player is running. On the Windows Media Player menu, select Tools->Settings->Buttons. Then map one of the buttons, such as Button 2 (Contacts), to "Screen Toggle". After that, pressing the mapped button will switch the screen on and off.

I tried this 3 times and each time when I press the button (I assigned button 3- the camera button) I got a strange black and white flashing strobe on the screen which I couldnt get out of without a soft reset. Anyone else had this or knows how to deal with it?

Dunno how to deal with it but I can confirm that I have exactly the same issue. Screen Toggling does not work and ends up in a flash show that doesn't look very healthy for the display.
works fine on xda 1 running ppc2003 :\ any programs to make the screen do this automatically? say if i was to run tomtom gps?

Work's fine with my XDA2, no problems at all, I assigned button 2 to the screen.
no problem doing it for me with xda with 2002 rom 3.1804
Also works fine on my XDA II. have you tried using the Calenda/Contacts buttons to toggle the screen instead of the camera button? Just a thought.
try this nifty lil program i found on emule works great on pc2002/2003 i have jog button installed to my calendar button just press the button and the screens off press power button to turn back on very simple or hold my calendar button down and the calendar coems up

Screenoff works perfect, but how do you manage to let the calendar button have a double function?
Found a prog cald jogbutton here http://www.yorch.net/downloads/JogButtonSetup.zip, but this doesn't seem to work on Pocket PC PE 2003.
job button works fine on ppc2003 i have it on my xda :\ just assign calendar or contacts to job button then load up jog button click on setup then apply it to the progs you want it to open.
prob i found with pc2002 with screen off is it doesnt come back on with the power button lol so here is screen on for peeps with pc2003 no need to install this if on pc2003 as it works fine on it
use button plus v2.0 from yorches site i find it better then jog button as it allows double tap buttons and doesnt go crazy when turniong screen off on tomtom 2 lol

I'm not withyou on this jog button thing bro. Can you talk us thru it again from the start. I have this program installed and cant get it to do anything. Much thanx...
install jog button then.....
assign either contacts or the calendar button to the shortcut in th startmenu so it starts up jog button.
then hold the button down you assigned it too....
you will see setup appear i nthe bottom left hand corner with the button still held in click on setup using the stylus then assign programs from within that menu its very simple to do
anyway found a better program its called button plus v2.0 download it from yorches site in the software section works much nicer
I am a Touch Pro which does not have a PTT button.
Any suggestions on how to reach the camera quickly? What is your quickest way to get to the camera?
remap the center button on your phone to start up camera
mobileSCR Gscroll, map the capacitive area of the screen(where the buttons are), really useful(can choose any sequence of taps to do anything, open application)
or AEButton... what' the use of a volume rocker? just use one button to get to the volume page and use the touch screen to change the setting...(one problem would be changing vol on the fly like during a phone call... that case, change the setting, one-button press = default volume behavior, two-button press = whanever you want, three -button, long press, whatever you want

Thanks! I will try to do this but I cannot find the built in remap ap on NRGs rom, still looking for it :-D
@paperWastage: Thanks for the tip! If I cannot find the built in software I will install AE buttons.
you cant remap the center button. i think he was being pedantic. maybe you can set a button to be voice command and say "start camera".
I just have the camera in the programs... Slide over to programs and press camera...

actually... i was serious. There is a fuze keyboard config software floating somewhere in the raphael forums. It might be able to let you remap the centerbutton.
but why would you want to remap your center button.

I have to agree as this is a very important function.
Mayne a Long press center button maybe more appropriate.
I cant seem to find any remap built in software on the NRG rom. My Touch dual had one which allowed me to remap some basic buttons like volume button.
Looks like AEbuttons is the answer for me. Will try to test it first and update you guys.
If you go to Setting and on the Personal Tab there is a Buttons setting and you can change the receive call button (press and hold of course) to whatever you want, including the camera.
Also a good idea to go over to the Systems tab and change the Long Press End Key Setting to Lock Device or something else than Turn Airplane mode on/off, god that sound is annoying when Airplane mode is turned on
it depends on the rom or software if you have the unlocked all buttons. honestly theres no faster way to get there than start > camera or photos tab > camera. if you dont have an american phone with a ppt button, there wont really be a faster way.
i actually did not mean to map the single click. I thought it was obvious i meant the long press.
using softkey manager you can replace one of the softkeys on the homescreen, as ur using an NRG rom im guessing your two softkeys on the home tab are "action" and "contacts"? ive got rid of the contacts, because a. i could jus use the people tab, or b. jus press the call button to bring up the dialer... and have replaced it with camera
the softkey manager should be under utililites/tweaks... it is on mine and im using an NRG rom
hope this helps.
Hey there,
I am looking for a way to remap my power button to launch a shortcut.
My goal is to make Tasker hibernate all 'greenified' apps, and turn off the screen when I press the power button.
This way I can turn off automatic hibernation in Greenify, and only 'greenify' apps when I explicitly turn off my screen, and not when it times out.
I've looked into several apps, but they all lack the ability to either remap the power button, or making it launch a shortcut.
I am running CyanogenMod 11 on my Samsung GT-I9300.
Hope someone could help me out!
You really don't want to do anything that would make you use the power button more. That is the first thing to die and you've got problems if it does. Much better to map a soft button or gesture to do what you want.
I thought about your comment, but it won't make me use the button more, because I use it anyway to lock my phone.
But nevertheless I could try to use it less. The problem is I use touch to wake the screen, and only if I lock it with the power button touch wil not wake the screen. If I wear the phone in my pocket, my leg wakes the screen trough the pocket.
I now made two profiles. One with proximity sensor, screen off and orientation upside down. And one the same, but orientation face down.
This way it will greenify apps when I put the phone in my pocket, standing or sitting.
I might look into gestures because then the sensors won't have to run when the screen is off saving me some precious juice am I right?
Still like to hear about remapping hw keys.
you can remap your power button here
System/usr/keylayout
then edit with text editor "Generic.kl"

Can I also map a shortcut to it? And do I have to remap again after an update?
GT-i9300, CM10.2, Googy-Max kernel
I accidentaly found out that there's a difference between the 'Tasker lock system' and the 'Secure Settings lock' actions.
With the Tasker action, touch to wake still works, but with the Secure Settings one it won't.
I now set up two profiles, screen on + proximity + upside down and screen on + proximity + face down. These greenify all apps and turn my screen off with Secure Settings. Also long pressing the menu (touch)key will do the same.
This way, when I put the phone in my pocket it will lock the screen and not wake up when still in my pocket.
But if I leave it face up and the screen times out my apps won't be greenified. I also made a double tap gesture in Nova Launcher that turns my screen off by the default Tasker system lock, so I can wake it by touch and my apps won't greenify.
Not really the idea that I started with, but maybe even better!

you have to every update.. but i suggest you getting a CM rom =)
My i9300 is running CM11 nightlys. I update weekly, so it will be a pain in my behind
Sent from my GT-I9300
Maybe I just have meaty digits, but I often find that when I'm trying to take a picture, my thumb will graze the hardware back button and exit the camera app completely. Then I have to reload the camera app and I've totally missed the moment.
I finally got fed up and switched to the soft navigation bar - in CM11, it's under Settings > Buttons > Enable on-screen nav bar - but it's not a very elegant solution.
Ideally, while I'm in the camera app, I'd like the phone to require a long press of the back button to exit. But I don't know of a way to conditionally remap the hardware keys - e.g. "if CAMERA is running, remap Back Key short press to NULL and remap Back Key long press to BACK."
Any suggestions?
Anyone know if there's a way to make the home button only work with a hard press? I'm not referring to unlocking the phone or turning on the screen, I'm asking about when using the phone or an app and wanting to press the home key, I would like the ability to disable a simple tap and make it feel more like a button by utilizing the pressure sensor. Anyone know if this is possible?
Thanks in advance
Look in Settings, Screen, Navigation bar, Home button sensitivity.

Try this-
set/display/navigation bar/Home button sensitivity
Sensitivity can only do so much, I have it on minimum for purely comfort, because it's much more effortless to unlock your phone when the tap doesn't have to be so intense. And if I really am force-pressing on the button area at any force, I am trying to unlock the phone, so I don't really see a point in having to press it with a lot of effort.
But I've found out that the button is very largely hardware-based, since it works and vibrates even when changing themes, when things like system UI are not active, and normal nav buttons and status bar are gone. So I doubt that any sort of third-party development will be done for it without root access, since the hard press function seems to work as a real button press, and not a virtual press.
