Hey there,
I am looking for a way to remap my power button to launch a shortcut.
My goal is to make Tasker hibernate all 'greenified' apps, and turn off the screen when I press the power button.
This way I can turn off automatic hibernation in Greenify, and only 'greenify' apps when I explicitly turn off my screen, and not when it times out.
I've looked into several apps, but they all lack the ability to either remap the power button, or making it launch a shortcut.
I am running CyanogenMod 11 on my Samsung GT-I9300.
Hope someone could help me out!
You really don't want to do anything that would make you use the power button more. That is the first thing to die and you've got problems if it does. Much better to map a soft button or gesture to do what you want.
I thought about your comment, but it won't make me use the button more, because I use it anyway to lock my phone.
But nevertheless I could try to use it less. The problem is I use touch to wake the screen, and only if I lock it with the power button touch wil not wake the screen. If I wear the phone in my pocket, my leg wakes the screen trough the pocket.
I now made two profiles. One with proximity sensor, screen off and orientation upside down. And one the same, but orientation face down.
This way it will greenify apps when I put the phone in my pocket, standing or sitting.
I might look into gestures because then the sensors won't have to run when the screen is off saving me some precious juice am I right?
Still like to hear about remapping hw keys.
you can remap your power button here
System/usr/keylayout
then edit with text editor "Generic.kl"

Can I also map a shortcut to it? And do I have to remap again after an update?
GT-i9300, CM10.2, Googy-Max kernel
I accidentaly found out that there's a difference between the 'Tasker lock system' and the 'Secure Settings lock' actions.
With the Tasker action, touch to wake still works, but with the Secure Settings one it won't.
I now set up two profiles, screen on + proximity + upside down and screen on + proximity + face down. These greenify all apps and turn my screen off with Secure Settings. Also long pressing the menu (touch)key will do the same.
This way, when I put the phone in my pocket it will lock the screen and not wake up when still in my pocket.
But if I leave it face up and the screen times out my apps won't be greenified. I also made a double tap gesture in Nova Launcher that turns my screen off by the default Tasker system lock, so I can wake it by touch and my apps won't greenify.
Not really the idea that I started with, but maybe even better!

Hi,
Wonder if its possible to make an app so the phone will wake up by other buttons instead of power button.
I find it abit inconvenient placed atm. A click on the balltracker would be far better for example...
All ready discussed but any of the lock screen apps allow this to happen.
Hi guys, I have searched for awhile but with no luck. I am looking for an app that will turn my home or search button into an unlock key.
When the phone is locked I just long press the home or search key and my phone unlocks. I don't really like pressing the power button.
Thanks!
those buttons are non functional until you press the power button. they're not physical buttons so they can't be used for what you want
Tap tap app works with the proximity sensor to wake up and turn off the screen of the phone ( kinda like using the force ). When you wake the screen just unlock using the normal screen ring to middle swipe.

Currently testing out this app....

Just played around with it and this app actually UNLOCKS the phone. No more swiping needed to unlock the ring, even though the lockscreen is cool an all. This can be disabled if you do enjoy the lockscreen app .
This app does skip that but right now unsure on how it affects battery.
Hey, quick question in regards to the Tap Tap app. I've been using it and so far fine, but wondering if this wears out the proximity sensor in any way? Red light kind of always on? Or am I being a bit paranoid?
am looking for an app to go directly to the swipe lock screen without power off so I can switch users without cycling the power button on my tablet. The power button is offset toward the back and annoying to use as well.
Also, do not want to use a proximity sensor app because it drains battery and uses hardware unnecessarily.
If this is something that is already built into android and I haven't found a shortcut, I apologize in advance.
I'm missing the hard home button I had on my S3 when driving as it was easier to press the home button to wake the phone. Is there a way to wake the phone by voice or with a wave of the hand without killing the battery? I would assume the mic probably takes less battery than the camera constantly running to detect the wave of the hand.
--edit--
wave control pro
Anything that does either of those would just kill the battery.
The best and most battery friendly way, is the power button. Some roms you can set it up to use the volume buttons too.
There is double tap screen to wake option too, with certain kernels, but again, battery eater. It can be set to timeout, so it doesn't use as much battery, but then you're hitting the power button again.
I've got tasker setup to kill the app when I'm not in the car so battery hit won't be that bad.
Could look at double tap to wake / slide to wake kernels?

Is there a way to replicate a screen off button using like a long press of the navigation keys or something? Like I like how the app called screen off in Google roms allow you to turn the screen off in the navigation ring
ring. Oh and no xposed please, makes my device lag. Thanks!
