Hi All,
My unrooted ATT E980 (LG optimus g pro) has corrupted partition table. Reported from Partition Table It has
/system ~ 2040.8/2523.9MB
/data ~ 901.8/23857.3MB
/persist ~ 4.8/7.9MB
/cache ~ 18.7/1009.3MB
/firmware ~54.9/64.0MB
Despite that I can still install new apps and plenty of space under /data, I can't even take a picture or download a file since the internal space appears full to all apps. At this stage, I can't even root it since the rooter can't write onto the internal memory space. And Android Partition Manager Pro, who requires the phone to be rooted at first, won't help either.
Does any one know how to repartition without root? Thanks a lot. This was posted in LG Optimus G Pro sub-forum a couple of days ago with no answer so far. I hope my luck would be a little better by bumping it to the general bulletin board.

With all the lighter custom ROMs we have today, the default huge /system partition we have in the O3D is a waste of space. Same with the /data partition. For those who don´t know, both /system and /data (and other smaller ones) are actual internal SD Card space!
That´s why we have LG specs saying we have 8GB of internal flash storage, when in fact we have just 5.5GB available.
So my question is: is there a (safe) way to wipe all internal SD partitions and then recreate them with more appropriate sizes, earning back all the wasted space?
Thanks a lot!

Have you read about data2ext? I think it would be a very good solution to us.
Sent from my LG-P920 using XDA App
Thanks for the reply, ThiaiZ!
However, I think I´m looking for something different: as far as I know, data2ext changes the /data partition pointer to external memory (SD Card), so the original /data partition will never be used by the OS, and it´s space will be wasted, right?
I would like to find a way to get this wasted space back! If we could repartition /system, /data, /cache, to smaller sizes, we would have more storage space for stuff on the internal SD. Does it make sense? Thanks!
Well, since I had no solutions here, I would like to post some examples of this for other phone models:
MyTouch 3G Slide - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893706
LG GT540 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1171531
The MyTouch 3G Slide thread is particularly good because it explains in detail how to check the partition sizes, and shows how much space is wasted on the /system partition.

Don't we have to be s-off to be able to resize the partitions ?
I did it a lot on my HTC Desire.
BTW do you have any idea in which block data and sd-ext are mounted on our device ?
I believe the S-OFF flag exists only in HTC devices. I read that somewhere here, at XDA. The guy seemed to know what he was talking about, and he said LG never implemented any kind of protection like S-ON / S-OFF.
About the block names, I believe you can list the blocks and the partition names they´re mounted as, with the "df" command. I know almost nothing about Linux, and even less about how Android manage it´s partitions, but that would be nice to be able to tweak their sizes...
LG GT540's partitions can easily be resized by flashing an MBN file. Don't know if this phone can get that done too

Don't try resizing partitions.
You'll brick your phone.
Hello all developers,
I wanted help in resizing /system and /data partitions on Samsung Galaxy Ace. You see we got unofficial CM9 by Maclaw, which is the only way to get ICS on our now low end device.
The problem with it is that it takes up almost whole 205 MBs system partition. Even if we delete some heavy apps and replace them with lite ones, We dont get much space for MODs.
Our galaxy Ace doesn't have a fastboot mode to use mods from the LG optimus Gt540 developers.
Can someone help in increasing /system space?
We can resize the /data partition and use link2SD or some scripts for Data partition.
Or
Is there any way to link system files to Ext?
Please help.
Maybe this?

Hi, as anyone knows the moto g hasn't a slot for micro sd card.
I have a 16 gb version of G and it's about 12,92 gb available. Let's say it's 13 gb.
I cleaned some apps** from /system/app and system/priv-app.
**useless apps for me (Motocare etc), old apps that has a new .apk in /data (youtube, fmplayer etc).
And now I got 411 mb of free space in /system section. (And I think I can increase a little free space in /system if I'll deodex apps)
And I got 639 mb of free space in /cache section.
My question is can we take this free space and give it into /data? What for we need so huge /cache section?
For example can I keep ~20 mb in /system and ~50 mb in /cache and take the rest 980 mb and give it to /data? And it'll be about 14 gb of available storage.
I never did that. I know that it's not easy to do and while I'll be doing this I can lose all data. But anyway I will appreciated to everybody who will help me with this. May be you did the same on a previous phone, may be there is some guide or somebody already have done this on moto G.
EDIT: and what is /dev section and why it's so big and not using ?
XDA Thread - MTD Custom Partition Sizes
The /dev directory is required by Android I believe. Feel free to remove it and report back what happens.

I doubt that this .zip files are compatible with the moto. I'm actually waiting for some adb commands that allows me to create a new partition sizes
EDIT: and I don't know why sizes are different from this screen and the screen in the 1st post
12.9 vs 13.9 gb uiserdata

I have already done this kind of thing in GooGle Nexus 3 Which is a Samsung Device and Uses PIT Partition Layout with Odin. I couldn't find any helpul resources for Moto G.
Bla Bla Bla Bla
I am facing an issue of smaller /System partition. While today's newer devices often come with 1.5GB (or more) of storage in the system partition, Moto G 1st Gen is more than a year old have 1GB or less of system storage available.
This, coupled with the fact that Google's applications have doubled in size in the past 18 months, means that your device may not be able to accommodate our larger GApps packages.
I want to answer some asumption
1) I am seriously not interested in link2sd or whatever.
2) I am doing this for learning purpose as well as obviously to ease my experience with this cell
3) Any help is much appreciated. Thank You in Advance.
I just started getting into rooting and such. I'm experimenting with kingroot at the moment and it seems to be working but I still can't seem to uninstall things.
I have a Samsung illusion and a moto G .I'd like to do custom roms but really all I want is to free up space. Please help

I can tell you are new here. It might be a bit confusing to you for now, but deleting system apps does NOT increase available space for games.
On the phone memory there usually around 5 or so paritions. Partition is basicly a part of a hard drive/SD Card. It is used for organizing files into volumes. Android phones usually have the following partitions: /data /system /sd-ext /sdcard /cache /boot and a few others depending on the brand.
The apps you download are stored on the /data partition and system apps are stored on the /system partition.
So deleting apps from the /system partition will free space in that partition only and the /data partition will stay exactly the same size so you won't get any additional space.
You could however resize /system partition and add that to the /data partition which is not only very dangerous, but might actually break your phone forever.
The best solution is using an external sd card.
Or even better, mounting the internal sd card to a folder on the external card. This means that the phone will think it's putting files on the internal sd card, but actually it's putting them on the external card.
Some apps that can do this:
Link2SD - Very nice UI, a lot of features ; Requires advenced partitioning of the external sd to work.
GL to SD - Very simple, almost always works ; to open apps that are moved you have to run them from gl to sd app
FolderMount - Works very well, just mount the apps and never need to think about it again ; A bit complex to use for an average user, outdated UI
NOTE: All of the apps may cause app loading problems and files in weird places. They may also corrupt data files but that hapends extremely rarely and only if the user did something wrong.
Well geez that's a bummer. And the moto g unfortunately doesn't have an sd slot. Even IF I can't increase download space, I still want the phone to run faster and as we both know there are junk apps that run in the background needlessly. Can you still guide me through the process to optimize functionality etc.
Thanks so much for responding
The motoG is actually running slower. I'm not seeing the point in going through all this trouble if I can't free up space and have a smooth running device.

for removing junk apps you need to use titanium backup.you can get it from google play store.by using it,you can uninstall junk pre loaded apps from your android device(s).
