Hello!
I've been struggling in order to get some effective way of synchronizing my calendar and tasks between palmtop, laptop and computer. I don't use outlook at all so Microsoft Exchange was rejected at the very beginning.
Later on I thought about Google Calendar but it does not include tasks.
Finally I decided to create an account on server which would host my calendar. It is in the iCalendar format -> *.ics. I can easily synchronize with it on my laptop and PC as the calendar is modified directly online from Mozilla Sunbird (both computers have always access to the Internet). I like this idea.
Now the time came to get my palmtop (HTC Touch Cruise) synchronize with this server. The problem is that I will not be able to keep it online all the time so I would like to have some really intelligent option enabling me to synchronize my calendar and tasks. Any suggestions highly appreciated.
Best regards,
Theriel
Microsoft wouldn't have forgotten this? Right...? :-(
I've traded up from my HD2 to an HD7. One of the features I loved on the old phone was sync'ing all my stuff up to the myphone.microsoft.com service. So I can keep old content, will always have my contacts and so forth.
But as much as I look around the HD7, I can't find any way to sync it to get my stuff on the new phone. I can't download the myphone software as WP7 doesn't recognise Cab files and the new windowsphone.live.com doesn't have any back up features just overview of the services on your phone like Xbo and Facebook account.
Seriously, Microsoft wouldn't have gotten their long standing WinMo customers reliant on their amazing back-up service and then just cast us out into the unbacked up snow would they?
Any help is much appreciated!!!

Your contacts will sync from your Windows Live Account (Ie your Hotmail Contacts).
I assume you can export from MyPhone to Hotmail?
I did think of that but it doesn't seem to be working. The account overview screen says Windows Live covers hotmail, xbox, photos and contacts but there's no option to tick contacts in the setup screen just email.
I also use an Exchange server but there's no contacts on there as my HD2 would only let you sync contacts from one or the other and I chose myphone.
Anythign else I can try - even if it's a way to export contacts and text messages from the HD2 and manually drop them into the HD7?

Here's what I did.
1. Backed up all my contacts with DotFred's PIM Backup just in case.
2. Disconnected syncing with MyPhone.
3. New local sync connection with Outlook.
4. Synced Outlook with Windows Live using the Windows Live Connector for Outlook.
5. Synced contacts on my WP7 from Live.
Sure, it's reaching around your elbow to scratch your ass but it only took me about 5 minutes tops.
I don't have WP7 yet, but on the MyPhone website, you can set certain data to restore to the phone on the next sync.
MyPhone is a Windows Mobile 6.5 service, it has nothing to do with WP7.
WP7 puts everything in the cloud so you don't need to back up the phone.
Use the Outlook connector for hotmail to sync from Outlook to Hotmail, then connect your WP7 phone to hotmail and all will be well. Emails, contacts and calendar will sync up to your phone.
I was hoping Myphone communicated with windowsphone.live.com, but that wasn't the case. I had to pirate Outlook 2007, since Outlook 2010 was unable to sync via WMDC on W7 64 bit.
I then exported my contacts to a .csv from Outlook 2007 and imported to my new live-account that I was going to use with my WP7 device.
My phone would then sync the contacts when logged in to my live-account.
someone else posted this before so they get the credit:
www.soocial.com
Create an acct with any email address. Follow the instructions to download the cab to your phone and install. Sync your contacts to soocial. Cancel that sync relationship and sync to your windows live acct.
You can sync 250 contacts this way without paying for it.

I was able to sync my Tilt2 with Outlook 2010 via WMDC and I'm using Windows 7 as well.
The issue is with 64 bit.
Windows 7 64 bit + Office 2010 64 bit or W7 64 bit + Office 2010 32 bit. I'm not sure if 32 bit Outlook would work, but I decided to go for Outlook 2007 to be sure.

Yea, I meant to notate that I'm using Windows 7 x64 as well.
I'm using win7 32 bit, so sholdnt be an issue.
Obviously I can manually put in my contacts, but I'd still be missing text messages so it's not quite ideal.
Am I just being a whinger who's hoping for a magic pixie? it's okay to say if I am!

You don't need to use myphone or outlook. All you need is your winmo 6.5 device and windows live.

Those are the instructions I used. My tilt2 sent everything up into the cloud to my live account, which then automagically dropped right back down onto my Focus. This copied over my contacts (including their pictures) and my calendar.
No software required. Didn't even have a sim in the tilt2. Sent it up to the cloud over wifi. Gotta love it.
Microsoft has another device portal that it will use for WP7. It will be similar to MyPhone. MyPhone isn't supported on WP7.

And that device portal will be available when or where? It's really a pain that you can't backup your text messages. I want to throw out my HD7 (this device just sucks big time with so many device specific problems) and exchange it for an Omnia 7, but I really want to backup my texts before so I can restore them... I haven't found any way yet to do so my e-mail and contacts are synced with Exchange and I can backup the music and pictures with Zune... but my texts...
Can HTC Sync app that syncs Outlook with Android can it be used with Galaxy S phone?
I'm looking for option to sync with outlook that DOES NOT require me to upload my data to google.
Kies doesn't require you to use the cloud to sync your PIM data
You may want to do a search for and check out "Android Manager". This is what I use over Wi-Fi for Outlook sync. I like it better than Kies myself.
anyone else tried Android Manager?
I also use android manager You can sync Contacts , Calender , Images, Videos or any other folder you choose.
Application is quite stable (I personally find it much more stable than MyPhoneExplorer).
best part its free.

The full Kies does not work with Captivate and Kies Mini has limited functionality.
I use MyPhoneExplorer to sync my outlook data. It has a PC program where you can edit/add/delete contacts and when you connect the phone to the PC it starts the companion app on the phone to make the transfer. No Google cloud needed and haven't had any stability issues with it.
Out of curiosity, I installed Android Manager on my PC. Unlike MyPhoneExplorer, it does not interface directly with Outlook. I'm unsure of how you even get your Outlook data into the program as the only import format it appears to support is .pbf, which is not a format Outlook can export to. If either of you guys have a way to do this, please post it. Thanks.
EDIT: OK, I played around with it some more and got it figured out. I am now an Android Manager user. Much easier to use than MyPhoneExplorer once you get it setup properly and I like not having to use a cord to sync. I wonder why this great app never shows up on lists of ways to sync Outlook with Android? First I heard of it was in this thread and I looked a lot when I first got the phone. Thanks for the tip.
Hallo, I have both personal (in .pst) and business (in Exchange .ost) info in my Outlook on my laptop (Outlook 2007, Vista). I can sync my Touch HD (using WMDC) with my .ost info but not my personal info in the .pst.
So far in my searches, I think I found that you can only sync a single account from Outlook to Windows Mobile device. Is that correct or is there an easy way of getting both data sets synced on my Touch HD?
I used to have a get-round but I forget what it was and I just had to re-install Vista on my laptop so I'm having to start everything from scratch. I need to use Outlook for business reasons.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance and Happy New Year
Since I got my new ATRIX, I tried to get my calenders from Thunderbird (Ubuntu) working on my Android smartphone.
- Up to now I could not find any working solution for me. Even applications for Windows (running in a virtual machine) I tried. -
Please Help !
What I want to do ? Sounds very easy and probably the solution is the same for Linux, Windoz and Macintoy.
-> I have several calenders (private, office, visitors, ...) local (!) on my computer saved as ics files.
An example : file:///media/daten/.../Email/lightning/calendar/Privat.ics
These calendars I want to copy on my smartphone and to use them (import ?) in an calendar application. I do not want to use any cloud, google calender construction. Just copy (may be convert) and use. Even synchronisation is not necessary, because the changes mainly I do on my notebook. As I said sounds easy, but it seemed not to be easy.
I have no idea how the other Thunderbird users manage to use their local calendars on the smartphone. Or am I the last "not-cloud" user ;-)
I use the plugin "Zindus" to sync my adress book from thunderbird.
To sync the calendars, i have them setup on google and connect to them from thunderbird.
So you could import your calender .ics files into google kalendar, which will be synced to your device and to which you can connect TB also.
I use this...
