[Q] Wiped my internal storage, help recovering data? - HTC One S

It's REALLY important that I recover as much data as I can. I've been following this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1994705
I have my mccblk0 (Some 14.6Gb) dumped to a RAW file, but am unable to attach it as a VHD to proceed with the tutorial. Windows gives me an error about the Disk Management console not being up-to-date. I've tried it on two different computers, one of which being a version of Windows 7 that's pretty darn close to being stock. I've searched through Google and through the posts on XDA threads and can't find a single other person who's seen my error. I'm really at a loss on how to proceed from here.

You could try to flash the raw data to a USB pen and then mount the partitions you need on a GNU/Linux (they are typically ext3/4 partitions, not supported by Windows natively) box to get at least your files back.

OMFG Someone help me pleeeeeease! I just lost 10 years of pictures with win32 disk im

I just screwed up bad. I accidently chose the wrong drive to use WIN32 Disk Imager On. I just lost 10 years worth of pictures. Is there any way to undo it? and revert my thumb drive to it's original contents?
Try a Linux disto like backtrack on a USB
Within will be a path to "data recovery" tools on the main start bar.
Use some "googleing" and ask when you get stuck, but the gist of it is:
Using the command line navigate to the drive or directory in question
If a drive; then you may have to look up how to recover lost partitions
If a directory or a folder; then you'll want to look up how to recover deleted directories
If a drive that was formatted and then written to by something else ie save something back to it; then it might be toast
With the above suggestions if you're unfimilure with command line stuff; then try google searching "backtrack recover deleted files or partitions" without the quotes and watching a few 1 or 2 minuet videos, its what I do, and then trying it out on something safe before attempting on the "target" storage source.
Hope its not toast. And let me know if you need links or get stuck.

8.1 Preview Troubles

During installation of 8.1 preview, the several automated restarts resulted in a BCD error. I was smart enough to make a backup, however it is corrupt! Just a word of caution for people. MS techs are calling me tomorrow with possible workarounds but it sounded like they were just going to ship a new device and be done with it. If anyone has any tips or ideas I'd appreciate it. I definitely don't want to ship this tablet out if I don't have to.

32gb surface rt from usa
Wow that's odd...I just did it with no problems at all. Can you boot from USB? Because if you can, then you can just burn the rt ISO to a flash drive and recover it from there.
Oh, and btw, 8.1 makes this device at least 2 times as fast as it was out of the box. With 8.1, everything is just faster with almost no lag. So if you can, I really would recommend installing it if you get it fixed. It should only reboot twice. Once for the update, and once to set up everything.
Errored out during installation the first time for me and reinstalled my previous version of windows. Just went back in the store and reinstalled it. Worked just fine the second time. Crazy fast for me. Surface rt 32 gb.
I cant install it on mine yet, keeps saying not available at this time.
EN-GB 32 RT, have reset it and set it up as a EN-US device, got the Preview in Store but just waiting for server load to drop off I guess.
Oh, and if anyone nails the install and ends up with a dead machine, I have an EN-GB recovery link in my sig.
I also have an FTP server here in the UK with it on if people are desperate.

As with every other ISO on the planet, you need to use a disk imaging tool to make a bootable USB
any chance you can post your link for the recovery file? I would appreciate it if you could

the link is taking me to another thread and there is no link there?
It shows up in the store for me when I did those four steps but the download always sais not available right now
So then I changed locale to US as suggested, the text is no longer corrupted but still won't download.
UK surface RT...and with RT you can't use iso file so store is my only option. It could just be overcrowded server but I really want the dam thing to download

I didn't ask because I was being lazy, I asked because I have tried every method I can think of to boot from that iso and it still doesn't work. I can't get to anything other than the surface logo then the error. I have tried multiple ways of making that drive bootable, but whenever I start surface holding volume down, the drive will flash for about 3 seconds then cut to the BCD error. And the tool in the windows store "Windows 7 usb download" tool does not recognize the iso as a windows file and will not create the drive with it. I have tried rufus and a program called iso to usb. Drive formatted as NTSF and for the sake of not going crazy tried FAT32. Same outcome regardless of approach.
I need the link to the surface rt recovery file too. the link in the signature takes me to another thread

How about you read the thread which then has the link in it.
Rocket science at its best
Maybe I should just have the file in my FTP and a direct link in my sig, perhaps that'd be easier lol

Same for me. I guess the drive needs the bootfiles for an RT device. If you make an usb-drive bootable on an x86/x64-system, the drive will contain code that can't run on ARM.
If anyone knows how to make the drive bootable for RT, I'd really like to know as well.
Just copy the files in the recovery to a fat32 formatted usb drive, then hold the volume down button plus power button, this will take time to boot but its normal. I already have my own recovery on a usb stick, but never deleted the built in one. Tried installing this on an x86 netbook but the wim file isn't recognized.
If anyone else is having trouble installing the RT preview, there's a way to change the base language. First is installing a language pack (US) and setting it as default language, then changing something in the registry with the name InstallLanguage and changing its value to 0409.

[Completed] Chinese phone hard brick,

Well, I write this with the faith that someone can help me. Try to change the ROM of a Chinese cell (this model is supposed to be ALPS K10, but since check the computer and opening applications, I realized that this might not be the model name, Besides, it is supposed to be a clone of the last LG K10). Try changing the rom as they passed many things
- Said he was 8 gb storage, when he was only 4 gb (same for the ram, said it was 1 gb, when only has 512 mb)
- When installed a .obb apk data (cache), ie a pirated app of the many pages that are on the network, moving his data to the "Memory", and installed the apk, the question was that when starting the game and in spite of having the data obb in the folder, the game would not start, but if you disabled external sd (where by the way, when you install the apk this created a folder for meta data there, when the he had internal memory) started the game normal, the same as the file was in obb
- There was no way multitasking use (it awarded 512 of ram and software)
- Mentioning again giving false data (internal storage, ram, etc, which awarded the modified software or something more)
Well, the point I want to make is that because of all these problems decides to flash the rom a very similar device (I mean also that I could not make a backup of the rom because even though I had all the drivers, tools and other the mtkdroid application tools I would not allow it, and neither could I make a copy of the IMEI that like applications pc applications android (mobileuncle for example) I permitted (device not compatible. Download the rom BLU NEO X, who was one of the many devices SoC MT6580 and 512 of ram (at least that's what I saw), and try to install with SP flashtool, flashing came out successful, but when I followed the footsteps of another forum, saying he should disconnect after it leaves the window "success", the phone no longer worked.
If anyone can help me giving me ideas where else can I find the stock rom of that device, or if there is any way to revive the less in recovery to try to do something, please do so; It is that it is forbidden rom's asking in this forum, but after searching for several days, you can say I'm already losing hope
Deputy something more for direct purposes if anyone knows, incidentally, how to solve this error, because the pc if it recognizes the COM port to connect the mobile bricked, so, I guess there must be some way to fix it:
BROM ERROR: S_FT_ENABLE_DRAM_FAIL (0XFC0)
EMI: Enable DRAM Failed!
HINT: Please check your load to your target matches Which is to be downloaded
Sorry for the faults that can be found in this text, but I used google translator to write because my English is not very good, even so, I wish you can help me
thanks, and help me!

Unbricking / converting a BAT script to a POSIX shell script

It looks like following the official instructions on wiki.lineageos . org/devices/I01WD/install can brick your device if you're unlucky - at least for me, the bootloader seems to have vanished; trying to boot will just return a black screen. So, I looked for unbricking instructions. Unfortunately, the only two I found were getdroidtips . com/unbrick-zenfone-6-asus-6z-qdloader-9008-mode/ and piunikaweb . com/2019/10/24/unbrick-asus-zenfone-6-asus-6z/, which both use BAT scripts. I only use Linux, which doesn't support such scripts, and I'm not familiar with the Windows shell. I wondered whether anyone here could convert the instructions for Linux? The driver installation shouldn't be a problem, as Linux is monolithic and lsusb shows the Qualcomm modem being in QDL mode (I suppose that's the same as QDLoader 9008/EDL?). (remove the spaces from the links)

I am sure you can easily read windows batch and convert them to your favorite shell language. I suppose it is simply a list of adb and fastboot commands. I don't know if I actually can help, but I'll be available for discussion, if you have any problems during your try with either of the two options above.

The first links seems to be basically the same as what I found. The last one only works if the bootloader is still there, which is not the case. That's also the reason why I think, while not actually had looked into them, that it's not just adb and fastboot commands (those won't work anymore with my device). ADB only works in Android, and fastboot only in the bootloader. But yes, I'll look into it and see if I can do anything.
So, after looking into it, I noticed I basically understand even less of that script than I do understand Unix shells. I guess I'll probably ask in that thread however, as this seems to be the original developer of the script(s). (actually, there's several scripts, XMLs and so on there)
I had a quick look at the update_image_EDL.bat file and noticed that the file itself calls an executable in Windows format. I guess this won't be easy to convert.
But did you try to run this in wine?
I believe the best solution to your problem would be a VM with Windows 10 installation and USB support.

This would require the OP to own a win10 version and if that was the case, (s)he could also boot from a installation disk and run the scripts on a live boot. But still, maybe a true Windows version is required.
As far as I know, Windows 10 is free to install without key and it will be legal as a short-period evaluation copy.

True, might work...
So, while QFIL.exe would start with wine and Mono (apparently it's a .NET application) installed, it wasn't actually able to connect to the phone (I think direct hardware access is one of the things WINE cannot really do anyway). Thus I tried the suggestion with Windows in a VM and USB redirection, however, I got `ERROR: function: sahara_rx_data:277 Unable to read packet header. Only read 0 bytes.` and some other errors after this which were apparently caused by the first error when executing the `update_img_EDL` script. I found another solution that may possibly work: Using https://www.96boards.org/documentation/consumer/guides/qdl.md.html, however I don't really know which partitions I need, and which XML files I should use from the many that are present in the zip file. The signed ELF programmer is apparently `prog_firehose_ddr.elf`, at least that's what the script seemed to use.
EDIT: Looks like some people in the original thread are having the same issue as I do.

Afaik Dragonboard is just the name of that line of SBCs which also uses Qualcomm SoCs. So while the Zenfone very likely doesn't use a Dragonboard as PCB, the SoC modes and such should be similar. The device-specific instructions most likely won't work, however the software should work on all Qualcomm-based boards.
I didn't try to install Windows 10 on my PC, however I also tried it at a friend's PC with W10, where I got the same error.

Meaning that even the Windows scripts that reflash the bootloader did not work?
Interesting. Looks like the issue was the cable; it worked with a different one (though both cables had both data and power lanes).
I'm in the same situation, with a dead Zenfone6 and only a Linux desktop.
Was there a way to bring it back to life?

See the original thread which was linked here. (the cable I originally used did not work, however it wasn't the original one that came with it) The only way I see is downloading the Windows installer and starting that in a VM with USB redirection (e.g. use QEMU/KVM and virt-manager). Then install Windows in that VM (if you don't want to create a Microsoft account, disconnect from the internet before it asks you to do so), and then follow all the instructions in the original thread.

My Asus brick has been lying in my drawer for a while but I had a bit of spare time so I thought to see what I could do with it. I have a bit of spare parts so I put together a bare bone computer and installed Windows 10 on it (the windows installer iso-file from microsoft.com)
I then tried to follow this guide https://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone-6-2019/how-to/qdloader-brick-t3980165
But when running the update_image_EDL.bat script I get "Environment variable _COM not defined". The USB cable I'm using is the one that came with the phone.
I know next to nothing about Windows. Somebody who has an idea what to do about that error message?

Yes. Happened to me, too. The problem was that the phone is not recognized as a Qualcomm device in Windows. I had to open it and bridge two points on the board. See this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=82965385&postcount=66
