TWRP Restores Not Working / No OS - Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE

Been content and happy with my Photon Q since tweaking it a little after getting it. Was still running the stock ROM, just with a few add ons. Also running one of the early TWRP releases.
Been battling a sd card corruption issue over the last few days, and after hours of testing and trial and error my next theory was that something on the ROM was corrupting my sd card (that's a completely different story/issue).
In any case, I rebooted the phone into recovery, made a full backup (system + data), wiped, then tried to restore a backup I had from about 3 months ago. The restore operation for system completes very quickly, but doesn't give any errors, and then when I go to reboot the device, TWRP warns there is no OS. Sure enough, there isn't. Using TWRP's file manager I can see there's nothing there. Rebooting just brings you to a boot logo screen, no further. I can get into fastboot and back into recovery. Thinking maybe something was wrong with my backups, I downloaded a clean stock TWRP image from a thread on here, same thing when I restore it. Thought maybe my recovery was jacked up, so I booted into fastboot and updated to the most current recovery, no change.
I'm pretty much DEAD at this point. Any thoughts, ideas, or suggestions?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Not totally familiar with it, but coming from a Samsung background, it's somewhat like Odin I believe. I'll look into it.

Already tried two different ones, same result no matter what I try to restore. Doesn't work for some reason.

Ok, trying to flash using RSD Lite...
Using the "asanti_c_sprint-user-4.1.2-9.8.2Q-122_XT897_FFW-5-6-release-keys-cid9.xml.zip" file downloaded from here: http://sbf.droid-developers.org/asanti_c/list.php
Edited the XML file to remove the two lines that say <step operation="getvar" var="max-download-size" />
When I try to flash, there are 23 steps, it keeps failing at step 18 (flashing the system.img). The exact error I get in RSD Lite is "Failed flashing process. 18/23 flash system "system.img" -> Phone returned FAIL."
Any thoughts?

There's another fellow with this same issue.
Not sure if they solved it yet, but does 'fastboot devices' work in a command prompt? Should show your device serial number in the terminal.

Just got it to work. I was using an older RSD Lite version (5.7). That image requires v6.1.5 in order to sucessfully flash the system.img
Worked fine with the newer RSD Lite version. Now to restore as much stuff as I can, but at least I'm back functional.
Thanks again for the heads up on RSD Lite.:good:

RSD Lite = FAIL?

Okay so here's my situation. I had to re-activate my device, and sprint told me I couldn't do it while on a custom ROM (I was on AOKP). So I flashed the Stock Deodexed rom that I still had on my SD for ICS thinking it would work. After flashing, my device wouldn't boot. So I put my phone in fastboot and used RSD to flash the 4.1.2 FXZ. After flashing, I got a FAIL error. Under status it says "Failed flashing process. Unknown fastboot command"
I searched everywhere and I'm coming up with blanks... yes my phone's bootloader is unlocked. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Haven't seen that one, what did you use to edit the file with? What version of RSD?
Here's the one I used a few days ago for 4.1.2

Replace your xml, reload RSD and try again.

Which version of RSD Lite are you using? I think 6.0 or even 6.1+ is required...
How long did you let it sit? Do you ever get an error?

Stock ROM for RAZR HD XT926?

Anyone know where I can get the latest stock ROM for a RAZR HD XT926 from a trusted source? I'm a bit nervous about downloading just any old file that claims to be a stock ROM. Who knows what could be embedded in it.
The latest OTA update from Verizon contains a bug fix that I desperately need, but my phone refuses to apply the update. I've given up working with Verizon and Motorola on this. Motorola level 2 support says they won't help because the phone is rooted, even though it wasn't at the time I spoke to them on the phone.
I've decided to go the route of flashing the ROM myself. I'm now rooted, bootloader is unlocked, safestrap is installed, and I've backed up the my working system with it. I've also installed rootkeeper so I can temporarily unroot before flashing.
Also after doing this will I need to reinstall and reconfigure all my apps? If so is there an easy way to back that all up so all I need to do is restore the backup?
Here you go!

Yes. I'm very confident they are. I've always used these to restore mine to stock when needed.
Awesome! Thanks. Now I just need to figure out how to flash the one I want. This is my first time. I'm guessing I just put the zip file on my sdcard and tell SafeStrap to recover using it.
Will I need to reinstall all my apps? Is there a way to prevent that? Mostly I'm concerned about apps that I've spent a lot of time setting up custom configurations for.

I've got RSD Lite installed now and it successfully detects the device is fastboot mode. Next step is to unzip the XML file I downloaded and plug it into RSD Lite. Right?
How much risk do you think there is that I end up bricking the phone? Keep in mind that OTA updates always fail because the hash on the build.prop file doesnt match what its expecting even though I've never changed the build.prop file.
Will I be able to use SafeStrap recovery if the phone gets bricked?
Like I said this is the first time I've tried this and I'm trying to cover all the bases before I do anything dangerous.

You don't unzip the .xml, you just flash it in RSD. When you use RSD, you will no longer have SafeStrap installed. SafeStrap is only an app, not a true recovery replacement, it works in conjunction with the stock recovery. You can't use a true recovery replacement since your bootloader is locked.
If you're not comfortable with RSD, try the House of Moto here:
http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/28162-house-of-moto-20/
RSD Lite failed to flash the phone. Error message was "failed flashing process - unknown fastboot command, (getvar).I do have the latest Android SDK installed (32 bit version) and it's in the my PATH. I can run fastboot from the command line and it does show a getvar command.
Prior to running RSD Lite I did temporarily unroot the phone with rootkeeper. Could that be the problem?
Ok I got to flash by ...
manually extracting the zip file
editing the xml file, and removing 2 lines that contained the text "getvar"
pointed RSDlite to the XML file instead of the zip file
From what I can see everything looks good on the phone. Now I just have to let it finish reinstalling all the apps.
I just wanted to post the steps here in case anyone else stumbles onto this thread and has the same problem.

[Q] Help, ap fastboot flash failure stuck on boot

Ok so I gained root access on my Droid razr maxx and tried to use the motopocalyse exploit tool to unlock the bootloader but misunderstood that it would work to unlock the bootloader on my build. The flash failed now I am having to use the button combo to boot the phone. Here are the details of the phone system version:9.18.94.XT926, razr maxx hd, Android:4.1.2 build :9.8.1Q94. Is it possible to unlock bootloader and can someone help me, I do have rsd lite installed, any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.
you can NOT unlock.
any successful flash will fix the error. you could grab your current version from here and re-flash it.
Okay, will I need to mod the file any I read somewhere that I would need to edit it and take the lines containing getvar out,but other say its not needed. I am assuming a wipe would also be essential for the flash. .Also, can anyone recommend any safestrap compatible roms for this phone. I am doing this for a friend that would love something similar to my Alliance rom that I am currently running on my Note 2, I am more comfortable using odin and the download mode on my samsung. .

I would edit it so it doesn't flash those. odin is Samsung's version of fastboot, you'll be fine, just grab RSD and you'll be up and running in no time

Okay, First I would like to thank you both, I have restored the phone back to working order, restored root and safestrap. Now I am in the process of finding a rom that would work, with the priority being stability and customization, any advice? The only thing I would recommend to people in the same predicament is to download the firmware into its own separate folder because it would not work in my main download folder, not sure why, something to do with the boot image.

[RESOLVED] HELP.. Boot Loop With TWRP and L install

Hi
Earlier I installed TWRP via Philz and that worked fine.
I then reset my phone and flashed Bigxie's Android L, again this worked fine.
I flashed the new radio for the same thread and that worked fine.
I then downloaded CF-Root from here:
http://download.chainfire.eu/363/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-hammerhead-hammerhead-nexus5.zip
Ran the Windows Batch file all seemed to go well. Bootloader was unlocked and the big red android appears on screen.
Phone booted back to TWRP, a script ran and then my phone started constantly booting the the TWRP screen.
All I'm getting is teamwin flashing up.
If I power off it goes back to this loop.
Any way I can get this working again ?
Not worried about any data.. I've got all I need backed up.
Thanks

dont use root toolkits.
flash the factory img via fastboot. then flash twrp again, flash a kernel that allows root, then flash the latest supersu.
Thanks for the reply.
Just want to claify to make sure I don't make it worse..
I've got the L image from Googles site, do I extract the factory.img from that ?
Then flash it using :
fastboot flash factory factory.img
Thanks
Think I may have made things worse..
I extracted the tgz file and while browsing double clicked the flash all batch file.
:silly: Not sure how the hell I clicked it twice.. but it's doing something.. .hopefully not killing my phone.
Any suggestions how I did myself out of this hole..

i dont think hitting it twice will do anything. but you might have to flash the img files separate, as in the flash-all is giving some ppl issues.

I'll have to remember to use a USB mouse with it.

When doing this, is there any specific order to follow when flashing all the .img files separately? I am also getting errors stating recovery.sig and boot.sig are missing. Does installing separate also take care of this?

it appears that the flash-all is having issues and skipping. so by flashing them all individually, you will make sure to flash them all.

Problems with downgrading to KitKat

Hey guys, I'm trying to downgrade to KitKat after all the issues Lollipop is giving me and the incompatible apps I'm trying to run.
I am following instructions here but I came across a problem when flashing the system.img file.
The error it gives me is:
FAILED (remote: Insufficient memory.)
I can't flash over system and can not boot.
What am I missing? I was rooted and my bootloader unlocked prior to starting and I tried with the factory recovery and the 1.2.1 recovery image.
Edit: My issue has been solved. Flashing the Full OTA.zip file will install KitKat over Lollipop. No need to manually flash each file through fastboot. I wish guides would tell you that instead.

Those are the same files as the ones I downloaded in the other thread.
I got my tablet working again on Lollipop 5.0.1 but that's not where I want to be. I've searched about my error message but most threads I found went unanswered.
Your best bet might just be to try getting a full OTA and flashing it through cwm or something. I'll try with mine when I have some time to backup and flash, probably later tomorrow. If I find anything out I'll post.

I just flashed the images and booted.
Did you accidentally try flashing to the wrong place, such as flashing to boot( which would be too small) instead of system? Did you do all of the commands yourself or use the .bat? My shield disconnected after doing the boot.img and system.img for some reason, so I had to select fastboot protocol to reboot the bootloader and continue to flash the userdata.img, blob, and battery.dtb.
was your tablet internal memory full?, try wipping data and chace and you could use the script that the original Nvidia recovery image has zipped. I went up and down like 3 times, im in kitkat right now and not experiencing any problem.

So I should just flash the ota.zip?
Also i did everything like the guide. I flashed boot to boot, recovery to recovery. The only thing that gave me an error was system. Userdata, blob, and battery also flashed successfully. After that didn't work, I also tried the .bat and that didn't work either. Flashing the 5.0.1 update got my tablet running again.

If you can find a full ota.zip for update 1.2.1 I'd try that. I'm not sure why you would be having this issue. The only other things I can say to try is redownloading and rebooting the boot loader (select fastboot protocol) between images in case something funny is happening there. Let us know how you end up doing.

I flashed the 1.2.1 OTA update and it worked. The first time I tried, I did using the TWRP recovery but for some reason, that recovery fails to flash OTAs, so I went with CWM and flashed the 2.1 update and all worked again. After a while, I got tired of all the issues lollipop gave me so that's why I tried following that guide to downgrade.
In the end, using CWM and flashing the OTA is the best way to go. Thank you all for you help.
