Hello all...
Probably a daft question to most on here, but anyway....
HOX+ on O2, 4.2.2 sense5, CID O2___001
If I unlock and root it, WITHOUT flashing custom ROM, and then backup the stock OS, with CMD etc, can I then restore the backup so that the phone is unrooted and the bootloader re locked ?
Is it as simple as 'restoring', and the device is back to 'completely stock' in case of further OTA updates ?
Thanks

Unlocked by HTCDev and rooted by flashing cwm-4.0.1.4-saga.img and su-3.0-efgh-signed and now I want to revert it back to stock rom and relock my bootloader..
now my problems are
1. factory reset is not working if i relocked my bootloader
2. i want to remove the root of my nandroid backup
3. if possible how to downgrade without turning s-off?
You probably want to apply a RUU, it will reset everything to stock. Make sure you get the oldest one so you can easily get back to S-OFF with Revolutionary.
I don't know if "unrooting" a backup is possible.
Well I hope you did a backup?
Just restore your backup afterwards flash original recovery...look @modaco for that...and relock your bootloader ^^
...RUU isn't that easy to find for every rom...
You want to get back to retail status or did I get it wrong?
Hi. So this is what I have done so far..
1. Unlocked my bootloader using HTCDEV which unlocked my bootloader but kept S-On.
2. Then I flashed my recovery with 4Ext recovery.
3. Installed SU using that. Now I have super user privilages.
In the end, I have unlocked, rooted bootloader with HBOOT 2.00.0002 and S-On. I have taken back up of my current ROM.
From what I understand,
1. My phone is completely rooted.
2. To install a new ROM, I need to go to recovery in booloader and install from SD card.
3. I can revert to my old stock ROM using the back up I took earlier.
Please let me know whether I have got it right till here.
I went through beginner's guides and needed few things to clarify.
1. Will installing new ROM overwrite RUU ?
2. If yes, how do I back up RUU or Rom.zip before I flash with new ROM ?
3. Even though I restore back to my stock ROM. Will my super user privilages remain ?
4. If yes, how to remove them ? How to unroot ?
5. Can I restore to stock's recovery ?
In other words, can I COMPLETELY restore it back excluding unlocking? Please guide me with respect to Desire S.
Installing RUU will comletely restore your phone to stock, removing root as well. So basicly there is no point in backing it up.
Please note that when you unlocked with htcdev.com you will have to flash boot.img separately after installing any custom rom for the phone to boot.
Anyway, there are so many guides on this forum that unswers all your questions, don't see a point to start the new one here.

Thank you. And sorry for the new thread. I went through the guides. Just needed to confirm. These RUUs, are they fixed for a particular model and country? For example, this link provides some RUUs for Desire S for different countries. So RUUs for all the Desire S phones in that region are same, officially ?
Aah, this thread solved the problem that I've been thinking!
When I am going to sell my DS, only need to install correct RUU and it is fully stock again?
Hi guys,
So I'm currently running AOKP 4.2.2, HBOOT 1.09, and have S-OFF. I know I need to be on stock Sense to do a SIM unlock. Can I just flash one of the Sense ROMs out there, and then restore my current phone from a backup, or do I have to do a full RUU with an unmodified AT&T OTA?. If it's the latter, will I lose S-OFF/Recovery or anything else important, or should I still just be able to restore from a backup. Thanks.
A Sense rom should be all you need.
A ruu will wipe your internal storage and recovery but not your sdcard.
Only way to lose s-off is to manually change it back.
Just flash a Sense custom ROM. SIM unlock, then you can go back to AOKP.
Great, thanks a lot!
Hi All
I have a totally stock M4 4.2.2 phone from Voda UK
(it has the boot logo from Voda along with pre-loaded network apps)
I just want to make it a stock European version...(UK ideally) with no network logos or apps
End wish is a stock 4.4.4 with root (ideally towelroot or similar) so if I want to...I can unroot and leave untouched/stock
As stated...no htcdev done or anything with unlocking bootloader
Advice please?

I'm afraid that once you go root ( unless you only use temproot ) you can't go back to absolute stock.
To "transform" it to a European version you'll have to do Super CID, which requires unlocked bootloader & s-off.

Well.. What about..
S-Off....
SuperCiD
flash with stock European rom
Set CID back to the European one...(so it doesn't brick)
Re-lock the bootloader
S-On
That way... I have a stock European Rom 4.4.4 on a stock One Mini
?

Not entirely.
If I'm not mistaken ( I'm not a phone freak, just a computer hardware engineer & mediocre software programmer ) you can't re-lock the bootloader like stock.
It displays "Re-Locked" once locked again with fastboot or another tool.
You'll have a stock image, but you won't have the applications that are preloaded in the data partition which gets erased during the Bootloader unlocking process, and that blocks you from flashing any newer OTA updates via the classic method ( like a totally stock phone )

have you tried downloand the TWRP version 3.0.0.2 https://twrp.me/devices/htconea9.html format the data and than do a RUU. the firmware will say modified if the bootloader is unlocked or if some sort of rooting or modding was involved. you can change it back to official with some simple adb commands. All the RUU and zips for any version of the A9 is in the general forum threads.
