[Q] xoom mz604 urgent help - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a xoom mz604 with eos3 stable, after installing a corrupt apk (never again) my zoom went crazy, showing the unfortunately app is not working message time and time again. Then, after power on again, it stuck on the eos logo until now. I tried to reinstall the eos3 rom .zip file and gapps from the sdcard (in recovery mode) but still the same problem.
Please somebody help me. i love my xoom. thanks

I believe you should go to the Partitions on Recovery and wipe every single one (except Internal Data and sdcard). That may solve your problem, as I believe you're with a broken system and kernel. Then try installing a stable file .
Good luck,

Hi, whilst I'm no expert, I'd recommend running a full wipe from recovery.
If you'd like to keep your data and apps I'd suggest making a nandroid backup, copying this to your PC, then after the wipe download busybox and appextractor from Play Store, copy the backup to your Xoom and you can restore things as you wish.
Or if you have your own preferred method of backup, go with that.
Hopefully this helps!
Edit: Well Lord got there whilst I was typing! He knows better than I so go with that

Thanks for answering, Could you tell me exactly how to do it in clockworkmod recovery.

Hi,
To do that, you need to go Mounts and Storage and then wipe every thing except by Internal Data and Sdcard. Also, remember to have the file ready to be flashed! Otherwise it's very probably that you'll fall in the RSD Mode 3 Brick!

That's a good option, just remember to backup your data. You can find a nice guide to restore to stock in the FAQ .

I tried the option unroot and return to stock but my pc doesn't recognize my tablet. what else can i do?

Cant restore backup CWM!

So I finally got my wife to trust me the other night and went for it. All I did was install clockwork mod then root by installing Imoseyon's v.4.0 Kernel. This allowed me to keep all her data and use the voodoo lagfix as it has helped a few other friends phones that I have rooted. All was well till the following day when she complained her phone froze several times and needed a battery pull to restart. So being the compulsive person I am I had her go into voodoo control and uncheck the enable lagfix box. Once restarted she was unable to open any app that was on the SD card. They were just grayed out as if they werent even there. Now she is very unhappy.
I have tried to access the backup I created in CWM before i messed with anything. I get an error. Next I tried flashing the recovery files found here on XDA. Then restore back up. Still an error. So now i have flashe Tweakstock which works but she wants the phone back to stock. I tinker with my phones and friends phones constantly and can usually figure things out when they go wrong but I am really lost here. Any and all help is greatly appriciated.

Which version of CWM did you use?
5.0.2.7 I think, its blue and has a dancing banana in the backround.
In cwm, go to backup/restore, advance, and just restore data
Yes I've had bad luck with that version of cwm. I would try first using the 0817 cwm release to restore the backup. If that doesn't work, i would extract the tar files using 7zip or something similar on your pc, grabbing the files you need, and pushing them back to the proper locations.

Intall in PDA, right? Nothing else with it and while on TweakStock ROM? She will be home in about an hour with her phone. Ill let you know how it goes.
Agree on 0817 CWM
I have to agree I had no luck trying to use CMW 5, I tried it several times with the same results. CWM 0817 worked perfect and have used it multiple times.

So i flashed the 0817 version of CWM. All is well but it still wont restore. I have double checked and everything is in the clockwork folder on the sd card. How do I manually flash them using ODIN? Is this even possible?
So i will be a little more clear with what files I have in the backup folder. There is:
.android_secure.vfat
boot.img
cache.rfs
data.rfs
datadata.rfs
nandroid.md5
recovery.img
system.rfs

Have you try to restore just data? Make sure you mount all your /data before try it. when you select restore did you see your old backup? Also what sms app you used, stock?

Didnt work. I do see my old backup and stock sms.
First of all, which cwm did you make your backup in? If it was orange then you have to restore with orange cwm. If it was blue then make sure you have the newest version of it. The older ones had problems with restores.
If it doesn't work then you might be out of luck. Maybe you had the old blue cwm and the underlying problem was that it made bad backups but restored good backups fine? I don't really know then.
I have had zero problems with the newest cwm by the way.

Well thanks everyone. I think im just out of luck. I went back to stock using the directions at the top of the Charge development section and now when I sign into the market on my computer to push some apps to the phone, it doesnt recognize it. Any clue here?
can you download apps from the market from your phone? If not try boot into cwm and do the following:
1. mount /system, /data etc.. all of them. Once done they should all displayed unmount in front of all.
2. wipe factory/data, cache, davik cache.
4. reboot and sign in with google account then try to download from the market.
To sort of finish the CWM question, CWM 4.X and CWM 5.X do backups differently. Thats why there are problems with restoring with the wrong one.
With that said, sometimes backups don't work.
Also, you flashed the wrong kernel. Imo4.0 is made for EP4P, not the current OTA for the charge, which is EP4D. Imnuts 0130 PBJ Kernel is the only one made for the Gingerbread OTA.

can't do factory reset or start the tablet

Hello, I've got a problem and I'd be very happy for any advice.
I am on rom JellyBean AOSP. I was using my Transformer and sound stopped working. So I decided to turn it off and on again and when I tried to turn it on and I wasn't able to start tablet anymore. I'm stuck on the first screen you see when you turn on the tablet. So I wanted to do factory reset in the recovery. In recovery everything works allright. When I click on the factory reset it says error when deleting something in /data/ and I also can't do "Format /data/" because of the same error.
Here is the log from recovery - https://dl.dropbox.com/u/3045404/recovery.log
How can I completely delete /data/ can I do it somehow from PC for example? I don't care about my data I can lose everything. I just want to get it work. I also tried to flash AOSP JellyBean ROM again, but with the same effect. I think that tablet just can't do the factory reset but I don't know why. Thanks for any advice.
Hi there !
I think you should try to start your tablet into ADB mode, connect it to your computer and use the "adb shell" command. If your tablet was rooted, then you might be able to use the "su" command, but that depends also on your settings (I mean your Android settings... those you can't change anymore ).
Another way to get your TF101 working again is to use the NVflash "unbrick pack". OK, you'll be running the stock non-rooted ROM, but you'll be able to root it again and install a new fresh copy of your Android AOSP. I'm going to search for a link to this nvflash and I'll post it asap.
By the way, were you using the AOSP "alpha" from RaymanFX ?
EDIT : NVflash unbrick pack is here, and you also might want to try with EasyFlasher !
Thanks, I'll try it. Yes, I've been using alpha from RaymanFX. I haven't done anything that could "brick" my device while using the tablet before I turned it off.
This is what tablet shows after I attempt to do a factory reset. https://dl.dropbox.com/u/3045404/DSC05813.JPG

That's weird. And you're using an old CWM Recovery
I think in most CWM versions there's a "fix permissions" item, you could try this one first. Im' not sure of what it exactly does, but it might do the trick: a permission-related problem seems (to me) a good reason for displaying this kind of errors...
yeah I also tried fix permissions but didn't help. I also remembered that it sometimes freezes even in the recovery. Is it safe to flash a new recovery NOW when I'm not able to startup the tablet? Please could you link me to the best recovery that I should flash? thanks a lot. I'm careful about it and I don't want to do something that would brick my device.
I dunno if it is the best recovery, but I prefer to use the CWM Recovery.
You'll find the 6.x series here.
I actually use the 6.x on my Sony Xperia Ray.
On my TF101, I use this touch Rogue recovery, not as recent as the first one. In fact I never did the update 'cause I'm waiting for the next release of RaymanFX's CM10 release to flash everything
EDIT: And I think you can flash a new recovery safely, because it's not on the same partition as the Android system. And in the case it fails, you should be able to boot in ADB mode and use the NVflash unbrick pack to get your device up and running !
oh god thank you so much. New recovery helped a lot it did factory reset and everything works allright. I would like to ask you one more question. what's in your opinion best rom for Transformer? I just want it to be stable. Because I don't like freezing every day and slow motion through tablet. I tried many roms but it was always unreliable. Thank you )
Great !
About the ROM s, one told me that Revolver is a great one, but I never used it.
I never had problems with CyanogenMod 9. I would recommend that one !
For now I'm running RaymanFX's CM10 build, which is great too !

[Q] Please help with my phone; i am in deep depression :(

On 1/17/13, i recieved the samsung galaxy s blaze 4g, i know it is an old model phone but i've been trying to root this phone.
This is the first phone i have tried to root and i have failed at it, however i did try my best.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kgUZV3EDUnY
http://www.androidauthority.com/galaxy-s-blaze-4g-t769-root-77814/
I used these two links to try to root my phone, i followed each step by step, did not check anything but "AUTO REBOOT" but i somehow soft bricked my phone.
I have searched the forums multiple times and i found that i have the same problem as this person.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2104969
Once again, i followed these instructions and i ended up at the screen "Welcome to SGH-T769, TOUCH THE ANDROID TO BEGIN" but whenever i touch the android, it gives me and error "GOOGLE SERVICES FRAMEWORK HAS STOPPED UNEXPECTEDLY"
Sometimes, it will get as far as "Setup wizard" but would give me the same error
to think of it, regarding the time when i was rooting, i dont think i had my microsd card in my phone which probably led to the problem, god im such a noob
and as a result i did not complete this step "After downloading all the files first move the Superuser.zip to the root of your sdcard..not internal sdcard but the removable one. Then unzip the Odin zip and once unzipped:
" but for now i think i need to fix the google service framework problem?
PLEASE HELP, many thanks in advance

You soft bricked your phone because you are using 4.0.4 as the device now ships with ICS- k0nane's root kernel won't work for ICS. That root method only works for GB. You need to put CWM on your phone to root ICS (flash superuser or supersu zip through CWM). Also once you have CWM on your phone you can flash any ROM -stock or otherwise- to your phone through CWM. The link with the other person having the same issue was resolved...

Try to boot cwm and factory reset to clear up framework issue. Edit: wipe davlik also (located in advanced) .Yes putting SU zip on your sd card is right. You will need to 'install from SD card' and then choose zip to install to flash su for root. If framework continues to be an issue after factory reset then I would suggest flashing a custom ROM (same flashing process as root normally - read ROM op first!). There are quite a few stock based ROMs that are great. Or you could go straight to JB/cm10. Up to you.. there's so many great ROMs for this device!

Check for superuser or supersu in your app drawer. If either is there (I don't know which one you decided to use) then you are rooted.:good:
wow, thanks a lot, yes I have superuser when I open my apps. This is really more difficult then jailbreaking =p but I would like to ask, what I have to do to get "roms" or "kernels" and "apps" after my device is rooted?
Will changing roms mean I have to re_root?

Actually, depending upon what time frame you rooted the idont device, rooting this phone with CWM is SIGNIFICANTLY easier than jailbreaking. Your problems of course, started because you didn't come here in the first place. Had you done that, it would have been a breeze.
As for your question about changing roms and will you have to re-root?
Don't look at it that way...If you want to switch to another rom that is applied through CWM, you're pretty much doing the same process you did when you came here, you're just only selecting the other rom through CWM. Don't forget to reset/wipe through CWM first though!

is that not extremely tedious, i thought titanium backup only backs up like game data or soemthing.
is there anyway i could backup the apps that i already downloaded through apptoide and google play?
and also i used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1919228 to root my phone, does that mean i can only download ics 4.0.4 roms and kernels? (do i download roms and kernels serperately?)

and also i used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1919228 to root my phone, does that mean i can only download ics 4.0.4 roms and kernels? (do i download roms and kernels serperately?)
ive heard that jelly bean is the lastest and fastest one, is there anyway for me to get this and what rom would u recommend?

if your rooted on ICS u can flash anything in cwm. For a daily driver I use cm 10, bug free. There's also slim bean, aokp, pacman, paranoid android.
Whatever you choose create a backup first in cwm, than flash ROM, than gapps, than factory reset/wipe cache/ in advanced wipe delvik. Reboot and give it time to boot. I would also recommend a launched such as nova or holo. They will allow u to backup your home screen and drawer preferances , and hide apps. Google can automatically redownload all your apps minus any save data. Tb can be a pain when switching roms, not all apps will work coming from ICS to jelly bean. Make sure and be safe, go ahead and write down all your contacts before flashing. I've flashed jb on three different phones and lost the contacts each time. After the initial flash of jb , flashing updates and such you won't lose any contacts as long as they are synced with Google. Happy flashing

if your rooted you grab the zip from here http://get.cm/?device=t769 , now you need the gapps or known as your Google app pack you can find those in the blaze bible. Once both are downloaded, reboot into cwm. Now flash the cm 10 zip ( go for the newest one the stable is quite old and missing some features) once it completes flash the gapps zip. Now do a factory reset, now wipe cache, last wipe delvik. Once you've done these steps reboot your phone. Now be patient and wait. It can take in some cases 10 mins to completely boot. If everything was done correctly you will be greeted with a setup prompt. Enjoy
Apps from Google play are listed in my apps. Check your apps play page to see what version of android they are compatible with
Oh yeah your ROM has your kernel included. The kernels listed in the dev section are for over clocking and under voltage and are for people who've done this before. Besides I don't use them, not necessary.

[Q] Go back from EOS4 to EOS3 or rooted stock 4.1.2

I have xoom 604 running latest EOS4. I have issues playing some old games that played fine on EOS3 155. I'm planning to give this tablet to my father. He will be using it mostly for web, book reading and some gaming. So the questions are:
1. Should I downgrade back to EOS3? If yes, anything I need to watch out for coming from 4.2.2 to 4.1.2 running latest TWRP 2.6
2. Should I keep it at EOS4?
3. downgrade it to rooted stock 4.1.2
Thanks in advance
Anybody?

Sorry I dont have the answer but Im also looking to go back to a stock Rom. Do you have the stock rom or a link to one.
I went back to EOS 3 v155 and very happy with it. There is a link to rooted 4.1.2 stock. I would never go back to unroot.

Why is root so necessary, Perhaps cause im old now and dont mess with my devices like I used to Im missing something. At this point I just want reliability over anything else. Been using EOS 3 stable and its locks up and acts weird initially just about every time I go to use it.
Because I can back up everything and remove ads. Try 155 it's better, but do a fresh install wipe everything.

Thanks for responding, Its been a while since I did anything what do you mean by wipe everything.
In recovery do factory reset. You can backup users(only) apps with TB. After install, let android restore your apps and if you need restore backed up apps+data from TB

So do the factory defalt in my current rom then install the new one, do a Ti back up before and save it to my card
yes
Have you given 4.2.2 a spin? It runs quite well on my Xoom.
That wasn't the question , was it? My xoom has issues running some games on EOS4 that runs fine on EOS3. I was giving to my family member who wants to play those games.

same here, please help anyone...

Back up your apps( not system apps) with TB. Find BT back folder and copy BT backup folder to your computer. You might have to copy TB backup folder to download folder first before copying it out to pc, eitherwise you may not see when connected to pc. Wipe everything including internal storage in TWRP. In TWRP mount usb and copy latest working EOS3 and EOS3 gapps into the Xoom. Install ROM and GAPPS. After first boot google should restore all apps you had installed before than copy TB backup folder back.
Hope this helps.

[Q] Help! Can't get past M logo after EOS4 installation on STINGRAY

Hi all, I've been rooting and installing custom roms on lots of devices for a couple of years now. I didn't consider myself a noob after successfully getting cyanogen 9 or 10 on tenderloin and cm10.2 on tate.
However, it seems that I have completely missed something while installing EOS4 20130705-199 on the Motorola Xoom.
I had no problems with SDK install, adb, fastboot, got TWRP running w/ root. All this is from stock, mind you, if that makes any difference.
So then I decided to grab teamEOS's EOS4 and run that as the newest Android OS (that is arguably stable) that has been ported to the Xoom.
Well, I think I must have rebooted at a point that I wasn't supposed to, because I lost the ability to load the EOS-stingray-20130705-199.zip via ADB.
So I went into TWRP recovery and attempted to ADB sideload the rom file. Seemed to work for transferring, but after wiping caches and rebooting, I'm stuck on MOTO dual-core logo. I can get back into TWRP, though so I tried doing factory reset, wiping caches, and installing from an 8GB microSD card (/sdcard). Wiped caches again and then reboot... Same result, MOTO dual-core logo.
Ok, so now to barebones... Boot into fastboot mode and flash boot.img from EOS-stingray-20130705-199.zip and then boot back into TWRP and install rom again.... Same result, MOTO dual-core logo.
As you can probably guess at this point I'm getting a bit frustrated. I'm about ready to see how a Xoom flies when launched from a skeet clay launcher. Pull!..... BLAM! Just kidding, but I really do need to get this device back running.
Does anybody have any suggestions?
199 may be bad (and be why it's not booting), try EOS-stingray-20130617-197 instead.
Format system partition first (in TWRP it's in Wipe->advanced), factory reset, then flash the EOS-stingray-20130617-197.zip AND an appropriate Gapps. Do not factory reset after the rom or gapps (for various reasons I am to tired to go into.) Assuming you have a good copy of the 197 it should boot.

Thanks for the reply. I shall give -197 a try.
As an aside, you don't need to feel obligated to explain your reasons for suggestions (re: Do not factory reset). The advice alone is worth it's weight in gold.
Bad news.
I just downloaded -197 fresh from goo, in fact I did it twice because I couldn't believe the results.
It actually fails to install giving the error "cannot open zip file" -199 never did that.
I also tried -131 (cdma) just to prove to myself that I have the right model. Same results, MOTO logo no boot.
Can't actually believe i am saying this, looks like goo's version is corrupt (my md5 doesn't match theirs and I just looked up the cached version of the webpage and it has d81cded40671c9c0963f95273859dbdd (which is what mine is.)
I will try to pm you a link of the file I have on my dropbox in a bit.
Thanks for this AIRESCH
Your version of -197 is working perfectly.
I think we need to sound the alarm here at XDA, because there are going to be a bunch of pissed off people (like me) who think they have a good image to flash when actually they have a bin of gibberish!
Thanks again.

Not sure this is necessary, goo has been replacing/upgrading hardware and may not have everything up yet (none of the files were there for a good week at the start of the month.) They may get the right files back up before too long. It does suck for anyone trying to get the files right now tho.
I'm glad your up and working.
Do not factory reset after the rom or gapps (for various reasons I am to tired to go into.)

ah, but you don't learn if it's not explained
Reason is: the Xoom only has a 256MB system partition and unfortunately the OS+Gapps (which normally resides in system) as of 4.1 or 4.2 comes to well over this amount. The rom developers HAVE been (they are currently trying to change this) making it so that some of Gapps gets enough copied into the data partition to make everything fit and symlink the files back into system. This has the positive effect of being able to have everything work even without enough space. However the downside is that if you factory reset it will wipe out the files in the data partition, leaving broken symlinks pointing to nothing, and makes it so some of it doesn't work anymore (how much depends on what gapps your using.)
In short: We have awesome devs that are still trying to fix the problem, but their current solution requires you to re-flash gapps (at a minimum, i normally recommend re-flashing both system and gapps) after a factory reset (which is not the end of the world (unless you don't have them both anymore.))
Can someone please share a link with me or pm me please? I still haven't found a working copy of 197 anywhere.
