Description
With Tilt Me Launcher you can launch your favorite apps without touching any icons. Just you have to set the apps for four directions (Left, Right, Top and Bottom). Then you can launch apps by tilting your device.
Tilt Me works based on the orientation. You can set which app should launch on which side and make it easy when you really in a hurry.
Select your most often used app and configure it to launch on priority.
No more shortcuts required on the home screen. Keep it clean.
Very simple UI design that makes easy for Novice users as well.
Few simple steps to use Tilt Me.
1. Launch Tilt Me and you can see list of installed apps on you device.
2. Click on any app in the list and choose the direction to launch.
3. Click apply to set the app to desired direction.
4. Then click on Start to track the orientation changes in the background and exit the Tilt Me application.
5. Now tilt your device to launch the favorite app.
6. You can reassign the app to the directions. It will override the existing direction and assign to the newly selected direction.
7. After the changes click stop and start it again to apply the latest changes.
Note: I don’t prefer using the bottom direction. Until you are in standing position everything seems fine. In case if you are lying on the bed. The app will keep on launching and trouble even though I have given this option for users who can make use of it efficiently.
If screen goes off the background service will stop detecting orientation. So that we can avoid unnecessary launches and save battery.

There are two apps that come to mind
Gesture search (free app) is an app from google I believe that uses gestures (I know it will recoginze letters not sure about numbers or shapes though shapes would be useless based on what this app is designed to do) to search through your contacts, installed apps, and bookmarks.
An example of how it works:
Lets say I want to launch handcent
Launch Gesture Search
I use my finger to draw a 'h'
all apps or contacts with an h in them are now displayed
I next draw a 'a'
further refines the list to things with an 'ha' in them
etc
This app can be launched by flicking the phone in a certain manor but I have a difficult time doing this, I recommend using Gesture Bar(free app) in conjunction with this app. It puts an icon in the status bar and when you pull down the status bar, click on the icon it will launch the Gesture Search app.
Sign is an app developed by simply applied. This app lets you assign a gesture (any shape, symbol, etc you can draw) to a contact and then when you draw said assigned gesture on the screen while the widget is active you will either cal or txt the person that gesture is assigned to. It is actually a really cool app, though it is a paid app. The paid version allows unlimited gestures. If you want to try the app out first there is a free version, signlite, that limits you to three gestures.
I'm just going to leave this here:
http://nexus.zteo.com/projects/beta/
It's beta but since it's not a very complex app, it is stable.
A few days ago, I read someone's complaint that they could not make a media player, such as Plex, their home screen. Apparently they are using their device as a TV set-top box.
So, I quickly put together this little app that does just that. It can also be used as a kiosk application I guess.
Features (why not?)
Springs into action when you tap the Home key (see below)
Double-tap Home key to access settings
Optional lock code to protect settings
Launch any app when tapping the Home key (aaaaah ok)
From the settings, you can launch anoter app, for instance an app drawer
Beautiful black and white interface, reminiscent of silent movies and broken TV sets

Very nice.
Whether you know it or will learn it now, having knowledge of this tip will greatly enhance your android experience.
On your home screen, press and hold the app you wish to uninstall. Then drag it over the "X Remove" at the top of the screen and hover over it. A few seconds later you will notice it will switch from Remove to Uninstall. Voila!
This is the quickest native way that I know of to uninstall an app. The same method works when you view all apps (on the home screen, not the settings).

In depth:
To explain the difference to new Android adopters, take a look at below.
Remove: This will simply remove the SHORTCUT to the app. It will not uninstall anything. Your data for the app will be kept safe.
Uninstall: If you want to completely uninstall the app (as in you do NOT want it on your device anymore), this is what you want.
It's a little unclear at first glance but that's just the way it is. It would have been easier if it said "Remove shortcut" instead of the ambiguous "Remove" which tends to confuse everyone at first.
If you find your device is starting to run a little slower than it used to, cleaning up by removing applications can help bring some of that performance and even battery life back. It's an old and common tip but a very reliable and effective tip that shouldn't be overlooked!
Happy cleaning!

The thread title confused me

Having come from an iPod Touch, I was used to how users uninstall apps on iOS devices. The user would press and hold on an app and a red X would appear to give the user the option of deleting the app. I found it pretty useful when cleaning up the device.
On Android however, I was frustrated with how one had to uninstall apps until I realized I have been doing it wrong all along. I used to do the tedious method of going to settings, then viewing all the apps, waiting for the list to load, then hunting down the app, then uninstall. Per app. This simple tip tends to be forgotten or unknown because it isn't so obvious to the user.

Also if you use Go Launcher or SPB shell pro etc you can uninstall apps with more ease... just press a x symbol and select the app you want to uninstall and you are done.

is theres any mode out there for the N5 that allows you to set a default app (gallery, browser etc) without it having to ask you EVERY single time? i know this is because of a patent that Crapple holds, but i remeber there being a mod for my previous phones that allowed you t o set a preset app for an action and keeping that way without asking every single time. Also is there a mod to or way to turn off the swipe up fron home button for google search? i already have google now off, but every now and then when im scrolling through pages i accidentally swipe up near the home button which then takes me to googlr search

Not sure about the second part.... but for setting a default app... i thought it was pretty obvious. Touch what you want to open... asks which app you want to use.... touch the app you want to assign to that type of file or that specific action.... and then touch "Always" at the bottom of that little window.

In Sony SmartWatch 1 (old) phone app you can rearrange in the phone app!!!!!!!! :crying:
Odd how some basic things like that are missing, particularly now that the watch face control is so sophisticated.

I would really like to make folders. I don't think swiping pages and pages of icons is very efficient. six folders of categories. I'd do: Coms, games, phone utilities, location/gps, music
with two presses I'd find all the apps I need. Not like now where I need to swipe, chreck, swipe , check, swipe, oh I reached the end I guess I missed it, swipe back, check, swipe back oh there it is.
Any one know how to maker folders??
Making folders is not possible. But you can arrange app icons according to their usage. This will help you work on ur smart watch more efficiently.

Only thing you can do is arranged according usage, and keep tap the app you want order to front, then press home button if app started.
You can turn off bluetooth first in order to avoid app start.
When SW2 reset, this order will turn to default too. So after reset(or reset by itself), you have to reorder it again.
+1000
I agree, I prefer the manual sort of the SW1.
Automatic arrange may be good but it is lost each time SW2 reset when app crash....
