I'm just going to leave this here:
http://nexus.zteo.com/projects/beta/
It's beta but since it's not a very complex app, it is stable.
A few days ago, I read someone's complaint that they could not make a media player, such as Plex, their home screen. Apparently they are using their device as a TV set-top box.
So, I quickly put together this little app that does just that. It can also be used as a kiosk application I guess.
Features (why not?)
Springs into action when you tap the Home key (see below)
Double-tap Home key to access settings
Optional lock code to protect settings
Launch any app when tapping the Home key (aaaaah ok)
From the settings, you can launch anoter app, for instance an app drawer
Beautiful black and white interface, reminiscent of silent movies and broken TV sets

Wow amazing <3

I love both of these apps but cannot seem to get them to work together. Quickdesk wont launch if I have launcher pro set as default, but if I set quickdesk to default my home key always takes me to the touchwiz home screen. Can anyone offer some advice?

You have to go into Preferences > Behavior Settings > Favorite Launcher and set it there.
I don't have a favorite launcher option in my launcher pro settings.

It isn't in the launcher pro settings, but in your quick desk settings. I had it set up when I double tapped my home button, it brought up quick desk. When i hit home, it brought up my Launcher Pro.

If you are facing difficulties setting up QuickDesk on your phone, here a guide for you, http://droidbar.net/2010/09/quickdesk-setup-guide/
QuickDesk works fine with both LauncherPro and ADW.Launcher.
i found that i prefer launching Quickdesk with a longpress on the search button instead.
Quickdesk slow the time its take to go back to home screen. 2 - 3 lag. I rather use with the hold search option.

QuickDesk and Launcherpro: A solution for them to work together
I have figured out how to make these two programs work together.
To customize the home double tap (Hard Key) to function properly with:
Launcher Pro and QuickDesk...or any other app with intended in-app overlay capabilities such as Power Strip.
Make QuickDesk assigned to open using single tap home
Make Launcher Pro assigned to open using double tap home
This way, when you launch your overlay app, it will function as its suppose to without closing out of your current app.
1. To make QuickDesk work with single tap home:
* QuickDesk>Menu key>Preferences>Behavior Settings
* Check the box for "Swap Home Key Action"
* Favorite Launcher --> Launcher Pro
* Check the box for "Home Key Hack"
* Check the box for "Fast Startup Mode"
* Uncheck the box for "Persistent Mode"
o If Persistent Mode is enabled it will effectively kick Launcher Pro out of the memory so that every time you want to go back to your home screens it will take a second or two to reload all your widgets and such. Enabling "Fast Startup Mode" keeps QuickDesk in the memory so that when it launches it wont have to reload; but this setting wont affect Launcher Pro.
* Double Tap Timing --> Set the Value to 1 (ms)
o This tap timing setting fixes an issue that WiseSalesman pointed out to me in post #14 of this thread.
2. To make Launcher Pro work with double tap home:
* Change Launcher Pro to not respond to a single home key press
o Preferences > Behavior Settings; set the 'Home key action' to 'do nothing' and uncheck the 'Home key to default screen'
* Using a file manager (Root Explorer or Astro work well); navigate to settings database which contains the entry for double tap function:
o data/data/com.motorola.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db
* When you try to open the file you will prompted to download SQLite Editor unless you already have it installed; apparently (according to dainty) this app cannot be purchased through the regular app store, so utilize the button on the prompt window to navigate to the download location. After you have installed SQLite Editor, navigate back to the settings.db file:
o data/data/com.motorola.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db
* Find 'double_tap' and edit the entry to start launcher pro, the entry format is; "<program>/<activity>"
o So for launcher pro this would be:
o com.fede.launcher/com.fede.launcher.Launcher
* Reboot; when it starts up the first thing you see is QuickDesk because essentially your device thinks this is your home app now but its all good -- Simply double tap home and launcher pro will open.
* Now whenever your in any app and want your QuickDesk, just single tap home, it will open without closing your currently open app. Whenever your want to get back to your Launcher pro home screens simply double tap home.
* Tada!
* **Takes a little getting use to but it actually makes sense because your going to be launching your overlay app far more often then going back to your home screens; a really good idea though is simply make a shortcut on your quick desk for launcher pro, that way even if you accidentally use a single tap, you can just press the shortcut for launcher pro.**
Hope this helps out. I know that they made it very difficult to remap hard keys on the droid x. My next mission will be to figure out how to remap the long press search function (but I am not very optimistic based on what I have found on the internet so far).
*Check out all the other apps I use and love: My Apps
im going crazy.. I know there was an app posted here at xda a while ago allowing you to draw a custom shape on the home screen to launch an app phone call.. I google it, search the forums and the main site.. but with no luck. anyone know where i can get a hold of this great app?
I think its called open gesture.
Hope that helps

There are two apps that come to mind
Gesture search (free app) is an app from google I believe that uses gestures (I know it will recoginze letters not sure about numbers or shapes though shapes would be useless based on what this app is designed to do) to search through your contacts, installed apps, and bookmarks.
An example of how it works:
Lets say I want to launch handcent
Launch Gesture Search
I use my finger to draw a 'h'
all apps or contacts with an h in them are now displayed
I next draw a 'a'
further refines the list to things with an 'ha' in them
etc
This app can be launched by flicking the phone in a certain manor but I have a difficult time doing this, I recommend using Gesture Bar(free app) in conjunction with this app. It puts an icon in the status bar and when you pull down the status bar, click on the icon it will launch the Gesture Search app.
Sign is an app developed by simply applied. This app lets you assign a gesture (any shape, symbol, etc you can draw) to a contact and then when you draw said assigned gesture on the screen while the widget is active you will either cal or txt the person that gesture is assigned to. It is actually a really cool app, though it is a paid app. The paid version allows unlimited gestures. If you want to try the app out first there is a free version, signlite, that limits you to three gestures.
I used a rom on my Transformer TF101 that had this kinda ported but I don't see it anywhere else.
Basically it is an app that just pops up with a "folder" of assigned icons. Similar to like an ALT-TAB app but displays custom apps vs recent apps.
The Samsung devices have this in the middle of the bottom tablet-mode status mode. I've been looking for even a simple app that I would map to a softkey... but I just can find anything.
Is there anything that can popular a window of apps that can be mapped to a button or can someone with some serious skills create an app that works similar to the Samsung Quick App panel? It was super handy to go between apps without going back to the launcher.
I know you could basically launch everything once and use the built in taskmanager to flip back and forth, but it doesn't solve launching new apps quickly.

Description
With Tilt Me Launcher you can launch your favorite apps without touching any icons. Just you have to set the apps for four directions (Left, Right, Top and Bottom). Then you can launch apps by tilting your device.
Tilt Me works based on the orientation. You can set which app should launch on which side and make it easy when you really in a hurry.
Select your most often used app and configure it to launch on priority.
No more shortcuts required on the home screen. Keep it clean.
Very simple UI design that makes easy for Novice users as well.
Few simple steps to use Tilt Me.
1. Launch Tilt Me and you can see list of installed apps on you device.
2. Click on any app in the list and choose the direction to launch.
3. Click apply to set the app to desired direction.
4. Then click on Start to track the orientation changes in the background and exit the Tilt Me application.
5. Now tilt your device to launch the favorite app.
6. You can reassign the app to the directions. It will override the existing direction and assign to the newly selected direction.
7. After the changes click stop and start it again to apply the latest changes.
Note: I don’t prefer using the bottom direction. Until you are in standing position everything seems fine. In case if you are lying on the bed. The app will keep on launching and trouble even though I have given this option for users who can make use of it efficiently.
If screen goes off the background service will stop detecting orientation. So that we can avoid unnecessary launches and save battery.

In Sony SmartWatch 1 (old) phone app you can rearrange in the phone app!!!!!!!! :crying:
Odd how some basic things like that are missing, particularly now that the watch face control is so sophisticated.

I would really like to make folders. I don't think swiping pages and pages of icons is very efficient. six folders of categories. I'd do: Coms, games, phone utilities, location/gps, music
with two presses I'd find all the apps I need. Not like now where I need to swipe, chreck, swipe , check, swipe, oh I reached the end I guess I missed it, swipe back, check, swipe back oh there it is.
Any one know how to maker folders??
Making folders is not possible. But you can arrange app icons according to their usage. This will help you work on ur smart watch more efficiently.

Only thing you can do is arranged according usage, and keep tap the app you want order to front, then press home button if app started.
You can turn off bluetooth first in order to avoid app start.
When SW2 reset, this order will turn to default too. So after reset(or reset by itself), you have to reorder it again.
+1000
I agree, I prefer the manual sort of the SW1.
Automatic arrange may be good but it is lost each time SW2 reset when app crash....
