Hey there, I own the Droid Razr Maxx HD. I was wondering does anyone know if the Droid Razr getting the new android Kit Katt update??? Also does anyone know how to root the Droid Razr HD Maxx??

I'm not sure anyone knows exactly who is getting the update, since it hasn't even been released. I'd bet that there will be ROMs based on it though sometime after it is released. Edit: like the above poster we still haven't even been officialy updated to 4.2, then their is 4.3, so we have awhile to go.
How to root Jellybean 4.1.2 for Droid Razr HD
There are a few videos on how to do it but that is the one I used. Tomsgt123 has alot of great videos for the Droid Razr HD. :good:

Kit Kat to is reportedly being available for even older devices so I see no reason why it can't. Rumor is Google wants to get kit Kat to as many devices as possible.

I hate agreeing with rumors, because so often they are wrong. But, hypothetically, if it were available to older devices, a lot of carrier influence would have to be side stepped. Secondly, if it were that easy to get on older devices, CM would probably have a stable stock build fairly soon. At least that's what I hope. I have my device rooted and unlocked but I'm still on stock because of all the issues with 4.2 and 4.3 that I've seen. I'm really hoping Kit Kat changes that.
only hope that

Although ROMs (notably CM 10, Vitreous) are being developed for the XT926 Dev Edition, it seems that the XT925 is being left out .
Anyone aware of any initiative towards the XT925?
There seems to be next to no development for the XT925 I'm giving it a month before i dump this and go back to the HOX

The phone is still very new guys, safestrap was only just made available for the locked down devices. Have a little patience. I'd expect to see a fair amount of work done with these phones.
Even without Safestrap, the bootloader can be unlocked, which makes the XT925 a nice candidate for playing with ROMs.
I'd LOVE to give CM10 a try on my device.
Yes, I am impatient!
Would love to know as well, as I recently picked one up in Aus.
I received my new vz RAZR hd about a month ago. It is running 4.0.4, and I read somewhere that it's hard to root jelly bean after the upgrade. So I rooted mine installed a root keeper. But I still haven't received any notification saying that it update was available. Have they pushed the JB update to the HD yet? Or will I be waiting at least 6 months like I did on my milestone droid and X?

What carrier you have ... some LATAM carrier don't have the upgrade yet !

o2's post may be the answer, although I know little about LATAM. Just two days ago, I rooted my newly acquired RAZR HD (XT926), install OTA RootKeeper, temp un-rooted, and took the OTA updates. All seemed to work for me. I'm at Verizon's stock 4.1.1 (version 1 of Jelly Bean).
Verizon wireless is my carrier.

The JB update was pushed out early this year you should be able to DL it. This may be a stupid Q but have you tryed manual update you know settings>about phone>system update?

I think I've got it figured out. From what I've heard.if you're roaming you cannot receive update notifications. I'm roaming 100 percent of the time because I live in the sticks. I just wish there was a way that I could update over wifi. I'm running 4.0.4 still. I'd like to get updated because of the reception and I heard the camera is a lot better. I've searched on the correct download to at least get me too JB but I'm not sure which version is next. I've already got root keeper with anticipation that I may get in OTA update. But it looks like that's not going to happen. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Why on earth can't you update over wifi? A Google search revealed many people update over wifi.

I don't know... I've actually tried it but it still says that it is up to date. 4.0.4.

So I just got this phone and it already has the latest OTA update. Is there a root for this yet? If so, direct me to it as I see links for only the previous version.

If you got the latest OTA update on your phone already, there currently is no root for that version yet. The latest OTA update made downgrading to ICS undoable. So, if you're on the newest OTA, you'll pretty much have to sit tight until it's possible to root on Jelly Bean itself.

I saw that thread before I created this one, but it wasnt definite that it would work with 926 and 4.1.2, the latest OTA.

That only works on the developer edition according to the third or fourth post. There is currently no root method for 4.1.2.

Yep..thats the conclusion I came up with.
Just for future reference to anyone holding out on installing the update: I used voodoo ota root keeper to transfer my root across the update and that worked great!

Even for those who are on 926, 4.1.2 latest OTA that have never rooted their phone? From what I read, nothing is avail yet.
I too am on the lookout for a root method for version 926. Seems like the Razr Maxx Hd had even more bloatware than the prior Razr Maxx.

Yea... I had a Razr Maxx and used Titanium Backup to remove lots of it. Looking forward to doing the same thing with Razr Maxx Hd
I also used Titanium Backup to freeze all of the bloatware. I took it a step further and created a filter and labels for frequntly used apps that eat up system resources and data. For example, I would unfreeze as needed Google Play store and Maps etc., then refreeze. I saw a huge increase in battery life etc.
Anywho... hopefully a root method is on its way soon.

Hopefully? Iord I've been praying for it and even trying to pay for it lol. I was so focused on getting the 4.1.2 update that I rushed it and found out a day or few later as other people got it that you can't even downgrade to previous versions (son of a Bi***....) so I seriously regret taking the update as now we are on a long waiting list that may never come...

Hello. I do not own the Razr Maxx HD atm but I will be getting it in a month or two depending on a few things. I had a Nexus till the screen cracked on Memorial day. Now I am back on my Moto Droid X. My question is can the Verizon Consumer edition be unlocked? I have searched Google for a hour but I keep seeing conflicting information. I know there is a tool out for all Moto devices with Snapdragon processors. But I read it does not work for the Verizon edition. If that is the case do you think it will happen in the near future? Is it being worked on? Thanks
Edit: just read that it is possible to go back a firmware verison with the Verizon Maxx HD which I believe cannot be done without an unlocked bootloader. Still would like someone to confirm though
Yes, it's possible.

I am on Verizon with a consumer version of the RAZR MAXX HD XT926. I was able to unlock the bootloader and flash a custom recovery just fine.
Just do a google search for Dan Rosenberg's bootloader unlock tool. I tried putting the link here but they won't let me post links just yet.
Hopefully soon there will be a fully stable AOSP kernel done. All the current 4.2.2 ROMS have issues with the camcorder not working. I'm currently running Carbon Official 4.2.2 and it runs great and is my new daily driver. Overclocked to 2ghz as well

I really hope so, as I'm avidly google searching every day to see if it has been announced for getting Kit Kat! There are 2 reasons I believe we should get 4.4;
1. Google owns Motorola now
2. The A2 meets the minimum required 512 RAM that is needed to run 4.4
All I can say is keep your fingers crossed and hope we don't get the galaxy nexus treatment.

Highly unlikely. Google is not releasing kitkat for the Galaxy Nexus which is based on TI OMAP architecture, so the odds of the Atrix 2 ever seeing a stable build are very slim.
Plus hashcode is no longer supporting any OMAP based Moto phones https://plus.google.com/111109372727398356624/posts/MywYxxxzJaD
I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you.

Yep, that's true and as for the custom ROMs, altered mention he'd try to build SlimKat soon and the Razr guys just got CM 11 alpha.
Either way, we're extremely blessed to have such awesome devs keeping our OMAP devices up to date with the latest Android releases! Thank you all!
