Android based clones (S4 / HTC etc..) full review - Android General

Hi,
So i have wanted to do an experiment with ordering and using a clone phone and really see for once: "is it worth it ?"
Well let me start of things i liked with the clone phones:
1. screen is not perfect but good enough and there is no need for more than what they give
2. most of the clone phone have a "FS Tool" (flashing tool) that you can restore your broken device
3. the clone is really good looking and fool allot of people that already had the same device and couldn't belive it at first that this is indeed a fake.
now to the acctuall bad part that due the following i would probably never buy a clone phone:
1. the phone heat while talking after about 5 minutes of talk - radiation anyone ?
2. mic sound is bad - the person that you are talking to him some times will tell you he hears you like you are far away from the phone...
3. battery sucks ! - to build a phone that could actually have good battery lifetime need to be designed to hold with a battery....
even for those that can use original battery the battery drains quicker then it should hold..
4. no replaceable parts... - are you really going to ship your phone to chaina if you will have a borken device ?!
5. no ROM support... - well some claim to have ROM support but that's just no real support..
6. head set microphone jack of the cell phone is really really bad sound quality.
7. Some of the clone can't sync your phone with contacts from gmail or any type of sync for that matter...
8. this phone is comming from chaina , wanna bet there is a bot/root-kit pre-installed on this device ? what promises that we wouldn't get
a root kit / hardware root kit on this device and getting your user name and passwords ?
9. GPS suck .. sometime they got it right .. most cases they don't ..
10. you can't belive the sellers about the screen resolution (they lie) or CPU type your are going to get (some putting you the dual core instead of the quad core) .. some lies also about the RAM size and the internal ROM size.. and the internal SD card takes over and you can't use your new external SD card because of this damn device doesn't configure correctly the "USE FROM SD CARD AND NOT INTERNAL ..."
11. camera suck!! very slow and with really low quality..
over all,
you will be getting a toy cell phone that will cost you between 160$-250$ depended on the model and quality..
for this amount of money it is not worth it and i have returned the phone and got money back ..
so, don't get cell phone unless you are willing to throw money and not getting what you may think you are going to get..
Regards,
LaBBa.

Asus P565 Issues

After much thought and experience with HTC phones, I bought my Asus P565 a few days back. Here are the issues I am facing with the phone :
1. Battery drain - When the CPU "Turbo" mode is selected, the battery drain is quite fast (about 12 hours to discharge from 90+% to 20+% with the phone in standby). Results are somewhat better (though not good) with "Automatic" and "Standard" Modes.
2. Heating problem - When any mode other than "Power Saving" Mode is selected, the handset heats up when not in standby, temperature being maximum for "Turbo" mode. However, usage of "Power Saving" Mode makes my phone as fast ( rather slow) as my HTC Touch.
3. Poor signal quality -I say so, as the phone goes out of coverage at some locations in my house, where my HTC Touch and NOKIA are pretty comfortable.
4. Poor earphone quality - The earphone diaphragm has unwanted vibrations even when the talk volume is low. This is not expected on a PDA phone of premium segment.
I have tried the Malaysian ROM from their FTP site, but it wasn't of any help.
Is there anyone else facing similar issues, or is it just the issue with my phone ?
ya man i am also facing similar problems i was buying tytn ii but because of ASUS cpu and benchmark results i bought asus .
But feeling cheated i am having htc p3300 its performence is much far better then asus the main problem is signal quality. its of no use
P565 and P552w
Your'll are scaring me. Even I plan to buy P565. Now the signal and battery drain are big issue's. Also P552w is giving equally good results on benchmark. Any suggestions?
Hi people, I googled "Asus P565 Heating Problems" and found this forum!
I bought my unit from the PC Fair last month (April).. I was hunting for a Winmo device and was choosing between HTC Touch Diamond and Asus P565, and wanting to be different (coz I have plenty of friends and relatives with the Diamond already), i chose the P565 instead. Mistake...
Firstly when I got the unit home, the unit had a faulty screen.. kept going green and yellow. Brought it back to the PC Fair the next day and they exchanged it 1-to-1 with a new unit. So no complains, except for my time, trouble and outrageous parking charges @ KLCC.
Less than a month into using the unit, the battery suddenly heats up. Even in standby mode!! It was discharging from 90% to 20% in a matter of 4-5 hours without any usage!! Went back to the dealer and they directed me to the service centre. Was told that there maybe some software I installed that's not compatible to the system and could be causing the battery to drain. I was like "What?? Even when no programs are running?". Anyways, they were nice enough to replace me with a brand new battery but asked me to try hard resetting the phone the next time its occuring...
Well, last night, it happened again.. the battery drained from approx 70% to 0% overnight in standby mode - with no usage...
Is there something terribly wrong with Asus handhelds?
i think asus handset are on teseting face all are having problems. friend u can try to put ur CPU MODE TO POWER SAVING MODE . and i think u should also check out for new ROM upgrade from asus site . i update my handset just 10 days back everthing was fine but still the signal quality was very poor . then i upgraded with this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3767081 rom the signal quality is good but battry as u said sucks.
u can try following
- cpu mode Standard
- in 2g/3g select gsm
- try 6.5 rom or lite rom
don't hate me. cause i know i'm going off topic a little bit
you see, i learned a new lesson today. turns out i don't know how to read Chinese and this 500 dollar asus p565 have just become usless to me. anyways does anybody know how to change from chinese to english. I started to google. i'm not that lazy, i just got way to many different answers. so what i have
step 1: its illegal or something and voids the warrenty (i hope not)
step 2: download the new english rom from some site
step 3: save it on your storage card (storage card must be less than 4gb)
step 4. connect to computer active sync show hidden folder and locate file on card and run the .exe
step 5: get some kind of error message locate something and rename it something
step 6: yadda yadda something happens or something then you get like a reboot screen and you use the nav keys to tap on something else
step 7: cool things happen but don't touch nothing untill its done
step 8: ... what?!? where did i mess up try it again?
also i heard you could do regional settings > something> language change> english. but i heard that doesn't work and i can't even read what says what. i even tried typing the words in google translator and looking for similiar symbols but no luck.
now i know alot of people are reading this and thinking this kid is dumb and ignorant, but please understand i do know nothing but i'm willing and trying to learn all this fancy lingo and how to do cool mods and hacking without totally frying my phone (R.I.P. more beloved sprint mogul ) So if somebody would kindly fill in the gaps for my steps. i would even be flattered if somebody just took the time to read this and laugh behind my back.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy pro

hi
I am thinking to buy the Samsung Galaxy pro
I read many review and specfication but dint find any information about its ARMV
and on some sites there is a debate that it has got secondary camera or not
and does the adobe flash player works same as it runs on samsung galaxy s
plz clear my douts
thanx.........
I just got one... it does not have any secondary camera.... But let me tell u... i feel that its one of the best android mid range phone in the market... i know its not one of the prettiest looking but it surely is one carrying a good processor speed and RAM
@gauravkittz: Congrats on your new phone!
I am also looking at this phone seriously so I hope you don't mind a couple of questions.
In pinoytechblog {can't post links yet, so just google it), the reviewer posted that the Facebook app has the icons on both side cut off by the screen edge and arcMedia player won't display in landscape mode.
Can you comment on both these point? It's not like I want to use arcMedia player, but I just want to know if there are incompatibitlity with some programs existing for this device.
Next, what's your battery life like? If Samsung had included 1500 mA battery instead 1350 mA, it would have been the BOMB! but would really appreciate any estimate.
How's the music playback with the earphones provided with the set, and how many hours of music playback can the set handle?
Well, I hope you can give me some of the answers for the questions mentioned, and any shameless promoting of the handset is also welcome!
Thanks in advance!
I picked my Samsung Galaxy Pro up on Thursday and am really enjoying it.
The 800 Mhz processor and memory seem to buzz along quite comfortably and I seldom have any slowdowns or freezes.
I have not found Adobe Flash Player in the Market, and when I log onto market.android.com and try installing it from there I get a message saying it is not compatible with my device.
The battery life is comparable to my HTC Desire GSM in an average day's use (with skype running all the time)
The device was bought from a Three store in the UK and is network locked to Three UK.
Something also to note is that the Android version is 2.2.2 rather than the 2.2.1 as advertised on the Samsung and Three website.
If you have any more questions post them here or on Twitter @Todoleo, I'll do my best to get back to you asap.
@ todoleo: Thanks for the reply.
Can you by any chance comment on a certain complaint by a customer in some website (which I forgot about) that there is no call accept and call end button and he had a hard time ending calls? It sound so stupid on paper, and looking at the phone, there is not call accept and call end button, but I always assumed that there were on-screen equivalent...
Can you give some numbers regarding battery life? I know that battery life is directly affected by how you use the phone, but gmarena user reviews gave such conflicting information, I thought I would ask you for some clarification.
Lastly, regarding Flash, I do remember reading in some website that the phone is Flash 10.1 compatible and some people claim to be able to play youtube vids direct from websites; are the misinformed or is it confirmed that the phone is Flash incompatible?
Thanks for all you help! Flash is not the deal breaker for me. Battery life is more important. If I can get some positive confirmation about the rumored 600+ standby time - or even a third of the time mentioned - I'll be very happy.

As far as battery life is concerned I can explain how I use the phone and how long the battery lasts. I am a heavy user and always have 3g/umts switched on with Skype+seesmic+gmail+gtalk running in the background.
When I get up and go to work, I unplug the phone and use it all day for calls, texts and data. When I get home in the evening, I still have battery left to do sofa surfing while watching tv. As far as I am concerned the battery life is similar to the HTC Desire and the ZTE Blade: enough to get me through a day.
The phone has no green and red call hardware buttons. The Software does have start and end call buttons. I believe the proximity sensor kicks in when in a call because when I move the phone from my ear to look at the screen the screen turns on and I do have an end call button to press onscreen.
So far I have not been able to install or run flash on the device, but I'll look into it and let you know.
Feel free to ask any more questions!
keyboard backlight
The keyboard backlight turns off after about 20 secs unlike the display which can be set. It is annoying when you sms in the dark... Anyone experience this problem...?

What happens when you press an arrow key? You don't type anything and the screen keeps on.
I don't have the pone yet but I think it would be a solution...
Phonearena review:
http://www.phonearena.com/reviews/Samsung-Galaxy-Pro-Review_id2736
i just got the device, and it seems OK
screen is not the best with small text for my eyes
no flash support is a bummer although it was mentioned that it will support it over at GSMARENA.com
altogether the device is neat, and beats some blackberry devices with one hand
right now i have only one concern, how to update the software as there isnt Kies support!
i got mine recently. its an awesome phone. keyboard is snappy for messaging, phone calls sounds good for both parties. SipDroid works a charm. ummm, yeah as a phone its really really good. If you want a smart phone with a large screen, perhaps its not for you. but if you spend most of you time using a phone or sending messages, its very good. little apps work, things like skype work. ability to create VPN's back to your home systems (avoiding the phone networks) works. Google maps with the GPS etc. For me, the screen size is fine - i suspect the next gen will be bigger. I've never really bothered with twatter or facebook etc and its nice to have a phone by default where these aren't in your face.
basically, it works and I think works very well. My previous phone was a smartphone with oodles of processing and a large touch screen but I found I never used most of its potential and as I have a tablet (of which tethers happily to the samsung on 3G) for large screen browsing i recommend this phone!
Here you have a review that I made few days ago:

You can install apps on the SD. Go to Settings/Applications...
The RAM is 512mb but Android needs memory to be loaded. For this reason you "only" have 279Mb of RAM. If we could install some cooked ROM we would have more RAM but I don't know if this phone will be as successful as for it. It's soon for this, I think.

I think QVGA resolution isn't supported...
I have been playing with my Galaxy Pro these past days. This is what i noticed.
1. Battery
I have an app called Battery indicator and OSMonitor which indicate the percentage of battery left. I charged the phone while it is switched off up to 100%. I switched it on without the plug. The app read 97%. And after five minutes, it dropped to 93%. Then it jumped to 87%. Then stayed 87% for a long time. I don't know what is the logic of these apps. Of course you cannot see the % in the notification bar. It just show the battery image, no percentage. So samsung might have intentionally not put the % so users will not complain. I will inform you later what is the actual time till it is dead.
2. Samsung IM App
Samsung is nice to include this. But only YM, Windows Messenger and Google talk? No Facebook?. Also, when using the app, you have no option to hide offline contacts.
3. Some apps cannot be seen in the Market
The reason could be that the app does not support the phone's resolution. I have android before and playing Words with friends. I cannot see this phone in the market.
I've heard ther's no kies support?
what does this mean?no updates?
I'm trying to understand if it's better value for money than the htc chacha
am sure chacha will be more expensive than galaxy pro. But 600Mhz processor? If the battery is significantly longer, I may shift.
Update regarding battery. In my third day of Galaxy pro, it passed 16hours of moderate to heavy use. This includes always online in Trillian (chat client with YM/FB)... Ocassional web surfing, sms.. No music/video yet as am still testing this as messenging machine...
I have my portable battery with me so i can charge it anywhere.. though, I home there will be a higher capacity battery available out there. 16hours of continous use is acceptable for me..

Rooting chinese One X/S copy .. ?

Im able to get my hands on this:
http://android-sale.com/hdc-one-x-android-phone.html
And I pretty much have one question to determine the purchase - would it root .. ? I guess that Superoneclick would do the job, presuming that chinese people are giving USB drivers with the device, but I would like to hear from someone who maybe already tried it. Does anybody even have the device .. ?
Hi I got the other version MTK6577 dual sim 480*854 px 4GB ROM. It's already been root using the method shown here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1847136
Con:
- camera is 5MP (burst to 8MP), very cheap flash
- GPU is overclocked (eat battery a lot while playing games)
- battery quickly get hot and depleted (need to tweak juice defender for optimal use)
- no HD video recording
- digitizer is plastic
- low signal/wifi reception
Hey,
I think with these Chinese ripoffs, you are likely to have quite a few issues.
- Little support from XDA as not many would have it
- Not that reliable as it has to cut back somewhere
- No professional judgement seeing as no one has experience with it.
I would not recommend getting them.
Anyway, they usually run some sort of stock android with a pathetic overlay so I think that you will be able to root.
Thanks
Hit thanks if you found this useful.

couple of ?'s, plz give thoughts :)

Hey! first off gotta say i love this forum, havent been back lately cuz i went over to iphone after my EVO, but still great place! aaaanyways, have a few questions which id love to get yalls thoughts on.. ill put #'s by them so its easier to answer! thanks!!
1) Im sick of verizon raping me with sandpaper condum with prices of service and whatnot, with my iphone 4. So im switching to StraightTalk. But with that, im goin to GSM towers. So with lookin for unlocked GSM phone to use, I am stuck between what to get. What im lookin for is:
A) good camera (13mp+, hate to drop down to 8mp), with a physical camera button (i know i can have app change it to the volume, but rather that be a last resort if needed)
B) Removable SD card (easier to get pics from it)
C) ability to use the 4G frequencies (700 for AT&T, 1700/2100 for TMobile) and the 3G frequencies also (850, 1900) ** or whatever the 'fast internet' frequencys are that are used... the straighttalk site says it uses the 4g from Tmobile..
D) the ability to root it so i can get free tethering thru the connection (wifi/bluetooth both good). I have my iphone jailbroken now, and a tethering app which is great cuz i use my ipad thru it
E) A decent sized battery ( i know; wishful thinking but still... at least 1800+ mAh)
F) Fast ( so it wont slow down in time. like my iphone has), was hopin 2gb RAM
-> I have been looking at: Sony LT30a ( the international one, the at&t one doesnt have the other bands): Oppo Find 5 ( no removable sim ): Samsung SIII T999 ( 8mp camera): a nokia phone (dont know if that can be rooted for tether): Aquos 104SH (can i get that in the US? )
*** So if there are any suggestions/thoughts of what phone to get, please say so!!
2) I want to get a GSM signal repeater to put in my car, so i have a strong signal for my car whenever i have my phone.. I want to be able to install this discretely ( other than the external antenna..); and so that it is only on when my car is on, and i dont have to manually plug it in/out when i want to use it.. ( would i have to add another fuse or something to achieve this?).. I am pretty clueless on what i would have to do, but i am somewhat smart so i could figure it out if i knew what to look for.. or if its comes to it, just pay someone to do it for me.. I was thinkin of this one -> from CellAntenna website CA-AVHR-5000 DUAL BAND REPEATER, it works with both 800 and 1900 bands, or this one ( ive heard wilson is good, from CB radio users... ) Wilson Cellular 40dB In-Vehicle Wireless Dual-Band 800MHz/1900MHz Cellular/PCS Bi-Directional Amplifier Kit from WPSantennas website.
3) Any way to.. 'reset' an iphone4. i have it jailbroken, on iOS 5 ( havent upgraded bcuz i dunno if there is a untethered break out yet..) and its really really sluggish.. I was wantin to basically reset it all, then i can reinstall each app that i use individually ( i have iFunbox, so i can back the apps up.. and maybe the texts? i dunno how tho ) But its really slow, and i want to make it fast again lol..
Thanks for the replies in advance!! Im glad to be comin back to andriod after my iphone...
Are you sure about Straight Talk ? Do they have the best coverage in your area compared to other pre-paid GSM providers ?
1.
A) Are you willing to compromise on the phone specs/features for that ?
B) Same as above.
C) This sort of relates to my introduction - have you checked coverage ? Who has the best coverage in your area ? If it's T-Mobile, have you looked at their plans ?
D) I'd do more research on if the carrier you choose can and will block this. If you're with Verizon on contract, I'm pretty sure it's included - but a lot of pre-paid plans will give you much hassle and the work-arounds don't always work. I'd look into it for each carrier if you're going to want to try.
E) I think there's some narrowing down to do here first.
F) What do you mean by "slow down in time" ? RAM will have an impact as far as things like re-loading and re-draws are concerned, but it won't really speed up the actual processing of the phone. My tablet has "only" 1Gb RAM and I don't really notice in comparison with my phone that has 2Gb.
For the Oppo Find 5, you mean "no removable SD card", right ? Nokia is doing Windows Phone 8 right now. Those phones all seem like solid choices - the decision really depends on what you expect from this phone and how you'll use it. An SD card is going to matter more if you like to put music or movie files on the device and can't or don't prefer to use a streaming service instead. The battery is an issue in that - how long do you expect to keep this phone ? If it's more than two years, I'd avoid unibody phones, there's going to be battery degradation no matter how nice you are to it - and a removable battery gives you the freedom to abuse it and not worry, since you can always put a new battery in when it starts to get weaker. And you can very easily get extended batteries for this kind that don't need micro-usb/lightening work-arounds (which you aren't going to find too much outside of iPhones, anyway).
Knowing how you use it will help to tell which features matter most.
2. Why do you need a signal repeater for your car ? Do you often have trouble with getting a signal in your car ? I'd get the phone first and then worry about it - unless the phone has an exceptionally poor internal radio, I don't see why you'd really need one unless there's some special factor at play.
3. Don't know, I'd check an iPhone forum. Can you factory reset it ?
February - Odin and Yuga .. they fit your needs
thanks for the replies!!
I am wantin to use it as a camera mainly (2nd to the phone)... thats why im wanting a good camera and a removable SD card (so i can get them easier)... and be able to tether it to my comp/ipad so i can use the internet thru it.
When i had my EVO a few years ago, i had a free tether app where i could use it free w/o paying for it. I have something like it now on my iphone... so basically i wanna be able to root it and install APKs that i download to do that. I dont know if windows phone has that ability (hence asking about nokia phones).
I think im gonna go with the Oppo Find 5 and get the 32gb one, even tho it doesnt have the removable sd card... It has good camera specs and since i cant get the sony one i want ( LT30a), imma go with the oppo. From the reviews ive read, it looks to be the best option (good camera with the sony camera special thing *cant remember what it is, but the xperias have it*.. and the large battery ( even tho not removable, but with 2500mAh should be good enough to stay working even when it starts to crap out, there will be enough juice to last a while.. )
does anyone know what frequencies are used for GSM towers? Im a lil confused on it, with what i read.. like is the T mobile "4g" not actually 4g but the HSPA+ towers being fast or what? and i guess the 4g is a 2nd thought cuz i spend time in larger cities when traveling and would be nice to have fast internet... but like i said the whole need 4g is secondary..
the RAM bit was i want to keep the phone for a while, and want it to be the best i can get now.. and 2gb RAM sounds like it would keep its speed pretty good... granted i prolly couldnt tell a difference but still a nice thing.
and with the sony odin, i read somewhere that the specs wont include wifi... which i thought was a common thing with new phones, so i didnt include it on my need list, but when i am on the internet i am mainly on wifi; so i do need it
Thanks for the thoughts!!
so i ended up gettin the Sony LT30p, and im lovin it so far..
althought having some issues with the roms, i need to sync Exchange mail and calander with my phone, and i cant seem to get it to work, It worked before i rooted my phone, and now it doesnt work..
Ive tried the cuiriosity 1.3, and 1.4 and they both dont work., Im gonna go with the stock ROM, although i love the cuirosity so i want to get it workin with that, then i'd be super happy!!
any help gettin exchange to work properly?

In us but allways got exnos version cause I require root but hated the lack of carrier aggravation. Now seems snapdragon is root able. Whitch to get

Just wanted to find some opinions on what to get basically it's been awhile since I was on her and my note ten is having the cold battery can't charge issue so Im looking what to replace it with and need root and loved the functionality of a fully unlocked bootloader but I missed the great speeds of a US phone since I'm in the US so wonder what I shoud do?
Too cold, won't charge?
You think it's a mobo failure on the 10+?
I've never seen that warning. Use something like DevChek to view all the sensor temperatures.
May just be a battery failure. They're good for about 2 years on a heavily used phone, my lasted 1.5 years and failed.
I'm looking at getting a second Note. My choices are another 10+ or a new 20U. It will likely be another 10+; it a solid, stable, fast phone with no glaring issues. If still running on Pie, that's a huge plus, Android 10 and especially 11 just suck. I don't have high hopes for 12.
So if it's the battery or C port PCB*, just replace and wait for the 2022 Note release.
From what I've read the Snapdragon has a better chipset architecture and instruction set.
They seem to be notoriously hard to root. Probably not a good choice for rooting.
I know you can optimize a stock 10+/Pie, not sure how well that will go with Android 10 and above. Some of the functionality isn't there for valuable 3rd party apps like Karma Firewall's logging feature. You can still use Package Disabler or ADB edits to kill the bloatware though.
On newer high dollar phones is many ways rooting is a liability especially with warranty/insurance and you lose Knox, Samsung Pass etc if you use that junk. There are those especially on this forum that swear by it but won't acknowledge their cost in time (which can be and typically is huge) and inconvenience.
Stock Androids/roms are easier to troubleshoot and more secure. If there are issues with a stock setup there will be thousands or more with the same issue making solutions more likely and easier to find. With a custom setup you are on your own which can quickly implode into a time sucking blackhole in more ways than there are stars.
If I was going to root it be an older Note... not a brand new one... risk/time vs reward.
*the C port PCB may have a temperature sensor, not sure. It can cause a lot of bizarre issues in seemingly unrelated systems like internet connection, I know that for a fact. Make sure if you do replace it you get the exact PN that on that PCB or it will not function properly! Both the battery and C port PCB are relatively easy to replace with the proper tools and skillset. Both are cheap, under $50. Make sure you replace the back cover OEM seal with the same or equivalent if you open it up. Do not use generic double sided adhesive tape!

Yes ,
i had this same issue of yours ,
"to cold to charge" can't charge ,
notice/issue .....many years back .
Can't remember which device of mine it was , think it was a Samsung Tablet A 2016 .
Anyway ,
Took devices to Samsung Service Centre.
It was the USB charging port .
They did not charge me much for the repairs .
Got it fixed and device charging normally / working fine afterwards.
My point is whatever you do or decide do not "throw/give "device away .
It's a small fix.....!
good luck
I am running the US snapdragon spammy 20 - ultra rooted up with boot loader unlocked thanks to afane and his advanced bros, although due to the lock down on many features such as scoped (controlled) storage preventing apps from being installed outside of the control room (googel store), did I mention notification sound got locked down too?
