I just bought a used 64GB HTC One which came rooted. It has several backups on it and tons of folders/files which have consumed half of the storage space. I want to wipe the device so it's like new and I have a fresh build to start with.
Before I mess anything up trying to wipe the device, I want to copy everything over to my PC so I can always restore things if needed. I tried exploring the device and copying the files while the phone was on but Windows sat there forever calculating the time to copy. I'm not even sure if I can copy everything while the device is on since some files may be in use.
Because of this, I thought I read that you can connect through USB by rebooting into the bootloader (white screen which says HBOOT ... is this bootloader?). My plan is to reboot into the bootloader screen, connect USB, copy the files, boot into recovery (TWRP), wipe the entire device, and restore/flash a stock AT&T image; however, the phone never says HBOOT USB PLUG when I plug in the USB cable!!
I installed HTC Sync which recognized the device and installed the drivers (shows up in device manager without any exclamations). I then uninstalled the software. After booting into the bootloader, if I plug the USB cable in, nothing happens; however, when I hit the power button to select FASTBOOT, it changes screens, I hear the device connected sound on Windows, and the device changes from FASTBOOT to FASTBOOT USB.
In the Windows device manager I see Android USB Devices - My HTC. I tried selecting My HTC, update driver software, browse my computer, selecting the Android-USB-Drivers, and it said the best drivers were already installed. I tried to manually select the driver and use have disk to browse the drivers and I get a message saying, "The folder you specified doesn't contain a compatible software driver for your device. If the folder contains a driver, make sure it is designed to work with Windows for 32-bit systems" (I have Windows Vista 32 bit OS). If I hit the power button again and switch back to BOOTLOADER, I hear the windows device disconnected sound and I only see HBOOT.
Is there a reason why it will connect to the PC under FASTBOOT but not under BOOTLOADER? How come I cannot switch drivers ... I thought I read the HTC Sync drivers don't allow the device to connect in HBOOT which is why I'm trying to update them. Do I even need to be in bootloader to copy the device contents or can I copy it all while the device is on? Lastly, do I need to get this connection working prior to wiping the device and trying to flash/restore an image in case I need to move some files back from the PC to the device (not trying to brick the device and not be able to connect it to the PC to transfer files)?
I tried selecting My HTC, updating the drivers to the Android-USB-Driver
Forgot to include these images ... I noticed I have S-On ... do I need S-Off in order to get HBOOT USB PLUG?
Followed a video on Youtube to do S-Off and eliminate tampered with. Still not able to get HBOOT USB PLUG.

Hi
Some background. Like many, I bought a TF700T and like a fool installed the OTA update to JB. I then downgraded, rooted in .30, then upgraded again and flashed SU to keep root in JB. I am now, therefore, running the stock OTA JB ROM, rooted. My bootloader is also unlocked.
Initially after this, plugging the TF700 into USb on Windows 7 (x64) worked fine - the device popped up as a Media Device and I could transfer files on and off it with ease. Now, without changing anything on either end, Windows is refusing to play. It tries to install MTP drivers but fails. If I boot the device in either CWM or Fastboot it connects fine (with adb and fastboot, respectively).
I want to get files on and off the *internal* storage (I don't have an external sdcard)
Things i have tried:
- Using a different USB port
- Using one of the USB ports on the back of the machine, instead of the front ones
- Uninstalling the MTP drivers
- Using the ASUS drivers from the website
- Cleaning out all my old unconnected USB devices (show devmgr_unconnected_devices=1 or whatever) and uninstalling all THOSE drivers
- Cleaning out with USBDeview
- Fresh install of the OTA ROM, after a data wipe/factory reset and wiping cache and dalvik
The only things I haven't tried are a new USB cable (damn you ASUS and your proprietary connector), and a clean install of Windows (major ballache).
Any ideas about what I could do to sort this would be greatly appreciated.
Since I only want to be able to move files on and off the device, I tried a workaround. I tried mounting the sdcard (internal) in windows manually through adb but the command I used to use on my old S2 through adb shell (echo dev/block/mmcblk0 > /sys/devices/platform/usb_mass_storage/lun0/file) but it errors with No such path or similar. I'm unsure if the mount points are different (I guess they will be, can anyone help with telling me what the mount point for the internal emmc is on the tf700?)
Really hope someone will be able to help me!
Thanks in advance guys
I'm in a similar situation except I'm not rooted or unlocked. I've tried just about all the steps you've mentioned w/ no luck. I've even tried to three different PCs running XP, Vista, and 7 and get the same result. What makes the situation even worse is my brand new 32GB microSD card won't read on my desktop as well.

First check make sure you have your "USB debug" and "Unknow software" checked in settings. Then go here and install the pda software for your windows. Once installed, it will installed all the driver for your tab automatically. You don't need to use the software, you can uninstall it later, but the driver will stay.

I haven't picked up a TF700 yet (out of stock locally), so these are just general suggestions...
From adb, shell into the OS (adb shell) and list the directories to try and determine their structure. If the device is booted, the internal SD should already be mounted.
I would start by looking for the following folders:
/sdcard
/mnt/sdcard
/data/media

I had the same problem getting MTP to work on old XP machine. The following worked for me...see post #12
http://www.transformerforums.com/fo...ormer-manual-usb-drivers-sync-software-2.html
Thanks for the replies, everyone. I installed PDANet and was initially hopeful once the drivers started installing. Sadly, Windows still doesn't see my device.
adb shell-ing into the device --> mounts
This lists /dev/fuse as the internal storage. I can't echo this to /sys/devices/usb_mass_storage/lun0/file because when I do it returns "No such file or directory"
The solution posted as working on XP machines doesn't work either.
This is seriously annoying. I'm tempted to just give in and get myself a 32GB SDHC and card reader and just use that instead - at least that way I can move the files across with Root Explorer or something...
i try to flash a rom and failed in the middle.
i have cwm version 6, while i select "mount USB storage" nothing happen,
while the recovery menu is open i have adb access but if i use "push" command it get stuck.
on the bootloader menu i dont have access to fastboot, i get on windows "usb device not recognized" under universal serial bus controllers in device manager.
any help here?
doesn't belong here!!!!
can the admin move it to where it belongs?
can the admin move it to where it belongs?
Fix your fastboot issue by properly installing the drivers (I suggest PDANet Android drivers, usually work fine) then flash Clockworkmod Recovery 6.0.1.0 or earlier OR TWRP latest version. The later versions of CWM Recovery have issues mounting USB.
Then mount USB, transfer a rom and flash away.
Edit: Oh and can't you restore your nandroid backup?
i think the problem is the cable driver is not installed properly ..
Keep calm, and check your driver or cable
fixed!
strangely the device gave the same error in my laptop and pc in all USB connection instead of 1.
only in my pc in specific USB connection at the back it works! i reflashed old cwm and it's all good now, thanks!
I was trying to install a couple of different custom roms on my phone. I have TWRP as the recovery tool. I tried a rom called ATT Buckeye and it seems to have bricked the phone. I don't have any other roms copied to the internal storage to try to flash them. I can reset to factory defaults both through holding the volume and power down and through TWRP, but I'm not able to start into a system. The only thing I can do is boot into TWRP 2.7.0.0
I saw that I can copy files using ADB, but it says "device not found" when I am connected and run adb shell. I have the drivers from LG's website installed, but there is a yellow exclamation mark on it in device manager. I found a thread where it says that I should be able to get the drivers from the Android developer SDK. I also found the individual download for Google USB drivers. In both cases, Windows isn't able to find any drivers in the USB drivers folder. I'm not sure what else I can do to revive my phone. At this point, I'd like to just get it working again any way possible.
I used this to fix my phone http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/development/tools-srk-tool-useful-toos-lg-root-twrp-t3079076
Then I was able to load Cloudy G2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2783192
Good to go
For some reason my laptop doesn't read my phone, works on my pc fine but i'm trying to fix it for my laptop. My phone only charges, can't access the files. My USB configuration is set to MTP, it defaults to Charging only but even if i switch it back and forth it does not work, thanks in advance for any help.
If you're on Marshmallow, swipe down from the top of the phone screen, press the USB notification, and change the selection from "charging only" to "file transfer".
Or do you mean that even when you do this (your description isn't clear) the laptop still can't see the phone? In that case, it'll be a driver problem. Install Wugfresh's Nexus Root Toolkit on the laptop and use the "Install & Test Drivers" button to set your laptop drivers up.
Okay I installed the root toolkit that you speak of but I don't see any "Install & Test Drivers" button. Unless you are talking about the "Full Driver Installation Guide" but that doesn't work because it can't recognize my phone.
Yes, "full driver installation guide".
I'm not trying to be funny, but you do get that the point of this is to get your laptop to recognise your phone, right...?
Yes I get that but I don't think you understand what I am trying to say. When following the installation guide I can't get past step 2 because it requires feedback from the phone, but it's still not being recognized thus making the process moot. The only time my laptop recognizes my phone is everytime I restart the phone, for a few seconds while the phone is loading I get an error of "unknown device found" on my laptop. When I try to manually update the "unknown device's" drivers, it says they are up to date. Even when I have the new google drivers on my desktop and point to it. Sorry it's late and I am half asleep, hope I am making some sense.
You've tried different USB cables and USB ports?
Is the phone recognized in fastboot or recovery mode?
Yes I have tried different cables but the issue is not with the cable nor my phone because I can just go onto my brother's pc and it recognizes immediately. It's just my laptop, and no it is not recognized in fastboot nor recovery mode.
Maybe it has something to do with the OS in the laptop?
No win7 64 bit for both, I know it's driver related but I just don't know what to do to fix it.
I've told you what to do... it's worked for me many times on a number of laptops, and on Windows 7.
If part 1 of the driver setup process didn't work, go back and do it again, following the instructions exactly to the letter, no shortcuts - i.e. when it says "reboot" then reboot, don't think "Nah, I don't need to do that."
Try deleting all existing drivers and reinstall.
I use the naked USB drivers on a win7 x64 laptop and desktop.
this computer malfunctioned.."
windows 10 64 bit opened fastboot and not working had worked in the past (forget what date) currently no rom on phone was wanting to install a new one.
tried on an other comp and no luck. I'm on twrp recovery menu and mounted device nothing showed only showed usb connected when at phone power up
Try with another usb cable. Does the phone charge correctly (if not, then usb port may be damaged). Try installing one of the ADB and fastboot installers available here e.g Minimal ADB and fastboot or 15 seconds ADB and fastboot installer.
You can copy the rom files to a sdcard if you have a sdcard reader.
Broadcasted from Zeta Reticuli
Link me if you can also i've put rom's and gapps on sd with sd reader and can't find the folder I named so I can get there. It does charge but the main power it's not saying usb connected.
Minimal ADB and fastboot installer. Do a system image before installing it, just to be safe.
And, try to place the rom and gapps into root of your sdcard, it'll save a lot of confusions. In TWRP, select Install>Select storage>External Storage. And you should see your files.
Sorry but I didn't understand you, 'the main power it's not saying usb connected' part. Is it the bootloader screen (the one comes up when you hold power+volume down?)
