No issues, however your internal "sdcard" will now be "sdcard0." Just how 4.2.x on up handles multi-users. Just a note, whenever I've gone between 4.1 and 4.2, I've backed up anything I want to keep that is on my internal sdcard to my external sd card, and wiped it in CWM. I format system, cache, data, sdcard before I flash any rom, and haven't had any issues other than my internal sdcard being changed (annoyingly) to sdcard0.

Thanks....and can't think of any reason I would have issues with the renaming of sdcard if I am wiping all anyway...hope not! lol thx again

Hmm, not sure on that. Maybe someone else can say, but I never tried to rename it back to "sdcard." Worth a shot. The worst case is that is would say you cannot rename. I'm on a TW rom, and mine says "sdcard0" even though I've done all the wipes.

I used Beans 19 for a while with no problems. wipe as usual. I always move everything to external SD as well and then wipe and format then wipe again and then flash. Probably overkill but I've never had problems either. I use TWRP as well in case you care

The sdcard0 folder is on 4.2 ROMs, which I believe CM 10.1.2 is, no? Beans 19 is a TW 4.1.2 ROM , so the sdcard0 folder shouldn't be in there.

You're thinking of sdcard/0 which is on JB 4.2+. Sdcard0 is what the internal storage is called on TW.

How do I wipe EVERYTHING on my internal SD card?

Hi guys.
I want to start from scratch regarding my internal SD card (not using external) because I have a lot of junk that just needs to be gone.
I'm running Synergy's latest nightly and am going to flash a Jelly Bean ROM (don't know which yet) right after wiping everything.
So my question is, what do I do to make sure everything is wiped, and my phone still boots? I'm kind of lost.
I usually use CWM to flash, so what do I press in order to do this?
Thanks a lot.
You have to format the internal card with a filw explorer or in a recovery

Understood, but what happens when I try to reboot back into the phone; will it boot normally?
I ditto this question. I'm also curious about formatting my internal card and starting from scratch. I know factory reset from cwm recovery doesn't do it. I'm afraid to just start doing things and bricking this thing. Even though I was told by my cousin who has flashed many phone its very hard to hard brick a Samsung.

Yes it should boot fine. The sd just holds your junk and possible some config info for some apps.

Ok, I'm just going to boot into CWM, Reformat, and Reboot. Hopefully everything goes well.
I'll get back to this topic to tell you how it went.
Ok, reformatting from CWM, then rebooting worked perfectly!
Going on to JB now, thanks for the help everyone.
Uhhh....right-click + "delete" while connected to your computer. Or from settings.

After reformatting, the rom was still installed right? but all your apps and clutter was gone?
Just curious cause I also did data/factory reset from cwm and all it did was delete the rom and apps but all the stuff left over from the apps and music/photos/videos were still there.

Hey buddy they're talking a little different then just data reset. To erase all that other stuff go into cwm under mounts and storage and click format internal SD card. The ROM will still work but it will erase everything on your internal memory so if you have pictures you want back then up

I thinks thats what I'm looking for. Last question, if I do that will my system settings stay, will I have to sign into everything again and will all my apps be gone?

In all honesty I'm not sure if it will erase settings as well. I don't believe it will but some app settings are stored on the SD card so you may have to sign back into some things.
If you choose to factory reset at the same time then yes you will have to reset everything up.
One thing to keep in mind if you make your backups without selecting external SD card they will ask be erased so you will have no backups
If I helped you in some way.... pass on the favor and help the next person!

Quick question, I just went into cwm recover then mounts and storage and the options are
Format /cache
Format /system
Format /data
Format /preload
Format /sdcard
Would sdcard be the internal sd card?
It sounds like that wipes everything (rom and all) and not just internal sd?

You just want to wipe internal? if you want to be safe, take out your external sdcard, then do format /sdcard . This will wipe your internal sdcard.

Will erasing Internal Storage in TWRP give me any issues with flashing?

I might have to do this because my files are everywhere, and possibly to have a clean start. I'm backing things up, but if I wipe internal storage, will it give me an issue if I try to flash a rom and gapps?
I believe this will delete your recovery too so you will have to push your recovery back on to your phone using adb.

If you wipe data in twrp it wipes the internal card now.
Learned this the hard way that they fixed it. Thankfully I don't keep anything important on their and keep it on my external card.

I accidently wiped my internal storage on my S3 and don't have an SD card. Can I flash a new ROM using my PC? Or am I ****ed?

Yes, you can side load a ROM that's downloaded on your PC, or you can push a ROM to your internal storage with ADB. There's definitely a few guides on how to do it in this forum.

Yeah. Wiping and formatting your /system or any internal directories is lovely for a fresh and stable start... just need to have a ROM on your eternal SD card, haha. I've done this several time, forgetting about having a ROM to flash afterwards. LOL.
Just get an external card, have the ROM and flash it from there. Makes everything way easier!

Flashing rom fail

When I try to flash a new rom I get an error (fail) or sometimes recovery freeze and reboot.
I don't understand why this happen, sometimes I can't flash any rom, other times I can flash some roms like cm10.1 and other roms fail.
Now I flashed pac-man rom and I can't flash any other rom, so I restored backup of cm10.1 but I can't flash any rom for now.
I'm using TWRP 2.6, but I got similar problems also with CWM.
I don't know why flash roms with my photon Q seems so difficult, with desire z and g1 I never had similar problems.
Anyone has got similar problems?
I never had any problems, and I flashed my Q a lot with TWRP... Are you using internal or external SD? If external, do you have any issues with the card? Is it old, bad sectors, etc?

My SD is a samsnug 32gb class 10, no problem with sd card. I'll try to use internal SD card for flash roms
Now it works, with flashable zip on internal memory :silly:

Try another brand of sdcard like sandisk, see what happens ... Sometimes no file corruption doesn't mean your sdcard is in good status.

At max storage capacity after installing CM10

I was looking through the folders to try and see which one was taking up all of my space, found the Samsung folder was at about 11 gigs but the three sub folders are nearly empty. The sub folders are just images, videos and music so I'm assuming that it's OK to delete this folder but unwanted to make sure that I wasn't missing something first. (everything I load besides apps goes onto my external SD card)

I just flashed cm 10.2 and I'm only showing 4gb internal memory with about .5gb avail. I don't know where my storage went either. Used SD analyst and it doesn't add up to 4gb. Wondering what happened to the other 4gb. Any ideas?

That happened to me too... The problem was that cm10.2 rom saves data to /sdcard not /sdcard0, so the files in /sdcard0 just stays there.... You can't delete the files inside because you can't access them. You need to flash the previous rom, and delete all files in /sdcard0, and reflash cm 10.2.
So does that mean a previous version of cm or whatever rom I had installed before cm10?

I think they are the same thing. Create a folder in in sdcard and you will see it in Sdcard0. Your 8gb of storage is 2gb for ROM, 2g apps and apps/data and 4gb storage.
thats weird
emm try to stay away from CM 10.2 , android 4.3 is not stable yet !
try CM 10.1 or a stable rom.. i advice you : slimrom build.8-OFFICIAL :good:

[Q] SCH-R530U Complete make-over NEED GENIUS**!!!!

I have a SCH-R530U US Cellular GS3 running on JB 4.2.2 with AOKP's mr1 build 5.
Kernel: 3.0.67-aokp-00038-g5a02406
I'm bored of this ROM and want to try Liquid Smooth for the features and hopeful battery life extension. I have been trying to get my phone back to stock EVERYTHING every couple weeks for the last few months now, and have not found any stock rom/kernel files that do anything other then brick my device into a hard boot loop. I have a NANDROID backup, so all is not lost, but I'm just so sick of not being able to find ONE file that will give me stock kernel and stock ROM so I can try a new ROM with new features and speed. I would flash LS over the AOKP build, I just haven't found any info on whether or not the ROM is compatible with my kernel, or if that's even an factor and Iv freaked out too many times over thinking my phone was F$*!ed to be that ballsy in trying something without having exact instructions or some sort of literature/video. So Id rather be safe then sorry and start completely fresh.
Also to get rid of all the non-sense i have on my phone from flashing tons of files to get rid of AOKP, and not knowing how to delete them.
The other issue. My SD card isn't recognized by anything. I cant move apps to my SD card with any app out there, the file is emulated and what i think happened was somehow, I ended up with two SD card files, and they have mixed files in them. So being as newb as I am, idk what files i need to keep in order for proper functioning of my phone and which I can delete, so i can move apps to the SD card and pictures and all that stuff to free up space on my phone. Im more then willing to delete everything on the card, but that wont fix my unorganized internal file clusterf$!*#.
Iv seriously being looking for months, downloaded ADB toolkit to try and get stock back that way, but just another boot loop.
TL;DR
1. Need stock ROM/kernel files for my version that will actually work and not bootloop me.
2. Can any ROM be flashed over any kernel, or are there restrictions with specific ones?
3. How can I fix my SD card problem (not recognizable by any App2SD app; literally none -says my SD card is emulated), with messed up internal files?
PLEASE HELP!!!!
Through your recovery do a full wipe (system, data, cache, dalvik) Sounds like you want to wipe your internsl sd too? Depending on where you keep your info you can wipe your internal SD but it's not necessary.
When you flash a ROM it will come with it's own kernel so you don't have to worry if a ROM is compatible with your kernel. Just make sure you flash a ROM that is compatible with US Cellular.

Thank you for your reply, honestly.
I vaguely remember doing a full wipe (system, cache, delvik, and data) and it not fixing the issue. But, I will try again. I'm more concerned about my SD card issue and all the messed up files. Will wiping all this fix that? Using ES explorer, I have about six /0 files... Idk if you know much about that, but from what I've learned, within that ONE /0 file, there should be storage for my SD card (data/media) and of course, there's nothing there. So, do you think or do you know that doing a full system wipe will remedy the problems? No tone intended, not trying to be a jerk, simple curious for the future.
Just format the SD card. Wipe everything off if your comfortable with losing the info. You can save important stuff top your CPU if necessary.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Won't formatting the SD card just erase everything anyway? This would fix my "corrupt" file issue though, correct? The multiple files and unoraginzation?
Sent from my SCH-R530U using xda app-developers app orginized
Yes formatting it will completely wipe it.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
And that's something I can do through my recovery, yes?
Sent from my SCH-R530U using xda app-developers app
I'm using TWRP and it can be done though recovery.. wipe > advanced > check sd card
Just backup anything you want to save

Will responded with results later tonight. This stuff always scares me... Gatta risk it for the biscuit though.
