[Q] update (how to?) - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello there!!!!
i know that the title sound very lame? very once again this title, but i really need your help
here is the deal, my GF gave me for my BD (in may) the tab 2 10.1 (p5100) she bought it over amazon (us) so i was so happy with the tablet, then i read hat there was an unpdate (4.1) so i try to do it over the air, no look, then over KIES, and the program show me a window that say: 'your device does not support upgrading via kies' so, why? i thought, then do a google search, and i found that my tab is for African market, (WTF) kenya to be exact,
this is the information about my tab:
pda: P5100XWBLE4
csc: P5100OJVBLF1
modem5100XXLE4
then i read my tab is region free? i mean is not looked with any carrier or something
so, thats the deal, and now i want to update it, and here are my questions
1.- i read that i can update via Odin, but do my tab need to be with the unlock bootloader to do so?
2.- my tab is still 4.0.4 and i know that there is an 4.2.2 official update but i don't know wish one is better (the 4.1) or 4.2
3.- i already download odin and the oficial 4.2.2 france room (does this come in spanish? because i live in honduras (thats why my bad english and sorry about it) and my GF does not speak english
4.- anything else i should know about?
i want to keep it oficial at least 6 months more (then will look for a room) Thanks in advance for your reads and your answer

Your answers:
1. No
2. Off course 4.2.2
3. It depends on ROM whether they supports or not, but ya I hope Samsung will, to check upgrade your tab to 4.2.2. Then go to SETTINGS > LANGUAGE AND INPUT > Choose your default language
4. Don't ROOT or install any custom ROM if you want it to keep it official, they will modify for settings.

Hello Everyone,
I tried to flash my tab 2 back to stock , but now it is not working anymore.
It boots until the samsung logo and then does not work anymore. (it shows galaxy tab and logo with sound).
When I push on/off button it resets and then it starts again until the samsung logo.
Turning of is also not possible. Entering odin with power volume up down does not work either (unit boots on).
When I connect it to PC and press off, it start loading (icon appears) and after unplugging it stays off.
Windows however reports : Found new hardware OMAP4430.
Help what to do??????:crying::crying::crying:

I got in ODIN on my Tab. Pressed power + volume at splash screen. I'm running on stock rom again
Hello everyone! I have a question to ask.
On September 4, was released on SAMMOBILE, SWISS(switzerland) version 4.0.4 for GALAXY TAB P5110 2 10.1 P5110XXBLH4 that requires firmware P5110XWALD2 (downloadable from XDA) ... so my question is should I not solve every problem? That is, I explain you, I installed cyano10 but I did not like .. I decided to go back to the stock firmware but I did not find the Italian version on the web ... so I was advised by a guide on this forum to install the latest version of the tablet P5113 because between those two terminals only changes that the P5113 has the infrared. Then I ask me for a 100% stock firmware on Kies recognized with P5110, should I install the P5110XWALD2 and then update with version 4.0.4 P5110XXBLH4?
Is a better upgrade to the Swiss version P5110XXBLH4 or the latest version of Luxembourg P5110XXBLI1.
Let me know as soon as possible thanks!
Hi! I have a question!
If I have CWM installed on my P5110 and I flash a stock firmware, the CWM will be erased?
It could be useful to return to full stock configuration...

Re: Lost Stock Rom for GT-P5110
Hmm, what details are you looking for? (it's a Galaxy Tab 10.1 2 (GT-P5110) as mentioned in the title.)
But thx for the hints to updato or Samfirm . Haven't come across those, yet and will give it a try ...

I need two Samsung Stock ROMs. One is the
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/gt-p5110/GT-P5110/DBT/
but as said, the sammobile page tells me "! This archived firmware is only available for premium users."
And the other Stock ROM I'm looking for is for the even older Galaxy Tab 10.1 (GT-P7510), again German ROM preferably, but maybe the Dutch version is the best match?

[Q] How to change the CSC on ICS ROM?

Hi,
I have a P6800 with HK vendor code. When the ICS appeared I couldn't wait for the HK version, so I rooted the tablet and flashed first the P6800XXLQ1_CSC_ATO and later the P6800XXLQ2_CSC_ATO, both with Mobile Odin. I did it with the EverRoot option, so the device is still rooted. Since I live in Hungary and the ATO CSC is also for my country, it seemed to be the best choice. And really, the tablet works well, I am satisfied with it -- let alone some minor bugs.
But certainly I lost the possibility to get further updates by KIES. (In fact, since flashing the ICS ROM, KIES doesn't want to recognise the tablet at all.)
I may pass the tablet to someone inside my family and that's why now I'd like to restore the 'normal' state: gain back the KIES connection, the possibility to upgrade with KIES, etc.
The best would be to change the vendor code from TGY to ATO, so that the CSC and vendor code would match. Is it possible? If yes, how?
Thanks
goto playstore and search a software name galaxy s/s2 csc
i manage to change my csc using that software. but the device will factory reset after changing csc.

Yes, thanks, but I knew about that app, I downloaded it and run it, but in my case it wasn't useful. It detected my code as TGY but didn't offer another code to change to. (see attachment)
I guess this app worked for Honeycomb ROM but not anymore with ICS ROM.

Then flash back to HC ? Then look on Sammoble for ICS ROM for your area .
Yeah, I might do it... I just hoped to be able to avoid flashing and flashing again...
Maybe someone, who changed the CSC not before but AFTER flashing the stock ICS ROM, could help me by telling me where the vendor code stored in ICS ROMs.
It is different from the Honeycomb ROMs for sure, because the 'system/csc' folder does not exist anymore in ICS. Meanwhile the Galaxy S/S2 CSC app recognized somehow that my vendor code is TGY, so this information is stored somewhere, but I don't know where... If I knew it, I could try to modify it with Root Explorer, since the device is rooted.
To tell the truth, I'm afraid of flashing BACKWARD a 3.2 ROM and bricking the tablet...
i think that your rom isn't multi csc, only roms with multi csc gives you the ability to change it.
maybe honeycomb 3.2 for your region will fix your problem, do some research here on xda to how restock your tab before flashing, I think there is some problems to get back to hc, but everyone managed to surpass it.

Hi do you know by chance which ICS ROM is multi-CSC? Maybe I could resolve my problem by flashing it and not downgrading to HC ROM.
Thanks
sorry mate, I don't know, i haven't upgrade mine to ics yet.

I fleshed the P6800ZSLP7 ICS ROM (HK, the same as my sales code) with the hope that it's multi CSC, and yes, it is, but ATO is not among the possibilities...
So still no solution for me...
i would suggest to restock it to Honeycomb 3.2, maybe later this year an ATO update will be available directly from Kies.
you can find the stock rom on sammobile. com

Exactly that's what I'd like to avoid! Honeycomb ROM was so slow, lacking the smoothness the hardware is made for, that don't want to use it again. Now I'm with the HK ICS ROM (P6800ZSLP7) that is a little bit inferior than the 2nd ATO ROM, but still works without any serious bug and at least matches with the vendor code.
And I hope that some time a developer or expert will find out how to change the vendor code....

Jelly bean OTA update not detected

Hello everyone,
I live in the UK and got my Note 10.1 Wi-Fi N8000 for last Christmas from my brother who worked in South Korea. Everything was in Korean and I switched it all in English and everything works fine.
The thing that bugs me right now is that I would like to upgrade to Jelly Bean but nothing new is detected when I hit the Software Update button... Do you have any idea why?
Is it simply not available for me yet and should I just wait more? That would surprise me as I noticed that JB has already been deployed in many countries now, and 4.1.2 update seems to be on the way...
Or more likely in my opinion, does it have anything to do with my tablet coming from South Korea?
In any case, what should I do to get Jelly Bean?
For now, my Note is working under the original ICS 4.0.4, and is not rooted. I am ok with rooting my Note if need be but if possible, I'd prefer not to use Kies...
Thanks for your help!
root and update with odin to get the latest 4.1.2 check the step by step guides first though so you know what you are doing.

you can't update OTA because the firmware that you are using is of South Korea.. so the only way to get JB is to flash it... and don't worry everyone here don't use kies... we use ODIN...
what you shoud do first is download these necessary files:
1. Odin - the flashing tool
2. the firmware you wan't to flash
optional:
3. root
4. custom recovery..
here's the link for guides and downloads - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2080366
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2016792
Thanks very much!
I would have a few more (newbie) questions still:
- Once I flash a new ROM, will I be able to get OTA updates or will it be never possible?
And actually I don't understand why using a South Korean firmware prevents me from updating OTA... How do the South Korean do then, they can't update OTA? If I got a South Korean IP by connecting to a South Korean VPN for example, would OTA updates work? Or am I totally wrong? :silly:
- About choosing the new ROM (I'll stick with the official ones for now), does the country matter or can I choose whatever I fancy? (I live in the UK right now but I'm from France so I don't know if I should choose one version over the other)
- And one last but not least thing: as my Note is from Korea, my device model is actually SHW-M480W and is not like N80XX.
As it is Wi-Fi only, it should correspond to N8010 but are you sure that flashing a N8010 firmware will actually work?

[Q] Languages for Android OS

Hi Everyone;
Today, i made a decision to update my GT-P5510 tablet to Android 4.2.2 via download its file from Sammobile...
But, there was only one problem here; I am living in Turkey but there is no offical update upper than android 4.0.4 for my country...
So, i need to use English version... I agreed that, i gone to website than dl the firmware than installed it to my tablet via Odin...
After the update i see a suprise!..
Dadadaa!.. My tablet updated to Android 4.2.2 successfully but still Turkish!
But i really cant understand how can it be? Can it be linked with Gapps (offically come installed with Stock ndroids as you know) why my language is Turkish?
So, if operating systems languages nıt important, why there is a lot of different language version for an offical stock rom?
Can anybody explain this surprise for me?
Thanks...
Let me tell you by an example:
It's not necessary for President to know people, but for the people they have to know President. :sly:

The difference between those versions is not just languages... Most ROMs contain many languages that you can select from, that's not really a surprise (although the selection varies by region). The difference in versions is what's called CSC (Customer Sales Code, or Consumer Software Customization, whatever it is). It determines the list of supported locales, and your default locale (language, formats), settings for your carrier(s), etc. Basically, it's a bundle of settings specific to a region of a product distribution.
As for how your phone automatically recognized your language, I am not 100% sure, but it could be by carrier, or by physical location based on the network. For example, when I installed European-based ROM on my old Galaxy S2, it recognized my language as English (Canada). The funny thing is that Canadian English does not even exist as an option in that ROM -- if I change it later to US or British, I can't go back to Canadian, because it's not listed! But it's still set like that during the initial setup. Go figure...

How do i see, which one i need, or can i use all 3?
Sorry for my bad english.
Best regards.
Morten
You basically can install any of these firmwares, the only difference between them must be the security patches since there's no 5.0 firmware for Tab S. I would recommend the latest one if you need to use it as a regular tablet. But SamMobile is not the best place to download firmware from because they limit the load speed for free users. They suggest you to buy a premium membership and downoad it faster, but the speeds still will not be very fast. I used SamFirm recently to download firmware. The speed was around 1.5 Mb/s which is decent for a 1.5Gb firmware file, it downloaded pretty quickly. Here is the link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/tool-samfirm-samsung-firmware-t2988647.
