[Nook HD/HD+][EMMC][4.3]Unofficial CarbonRom JB3 | 12-05: Wi-Fi update) - Nook HD, HD+ Android Development

These builds are unofficial, unsupported by the Team Carbon. Do not file bug reports to the Carbon devs -- instead please post them in this thread.
For more information on Carbon in general, please read post #2
I test these builds before uploading to dev-host, but take absolutely no responsibility for any damage to devices, data or living beings caused by anyone using these roms.
These builds are based on the CarbonDev github tree https://github.com/CarbonDev and CM10.2 device sources https://github.com/CyanogenMod You can see my modifications to these source trees (mainly to squash ovation-specific bugs) and the local manifest at https://github.com/kimjisoo. Feel free to fork these and improve on the code (but please do let me know if you identify and fix any bugs!)
You can also flash a trim-enabled kernel from this post. If you don't know what this is and what the pros/cons are, I suggest you drop by this thread first: TRIM: FAQ, Discussion, Risks
Unless a serious bug is identified, these early December builds will be the final updates for the 4.3 branch, as the Carbon Team has started working on 4.4.

These are otherwise identical to the latest "normal" builds but have the experimental (i.e. buggy) multi-window feature from Omni Rom included. For a preview of this feature, see this video. Does this build have TRIM disabled so as not to cause the brick bug?

Yes. The device-specific files are pulled from CM10.2 github, so trim is currently disabled until they feel it's safe to enable it. If that happens, I will put a note in the op.

Are you sure? It's working fine for me (latest YouTube from Play Store)
[Edit:] Tested a bit more. HD video does not work. SD and HQ work fine. I'll try to fix this in the next build.
I would appreciate any advice on what could be the potential reason.
Sent from my SHV-E210k using Tapatalk 4

Rom is so satisfying. Thank you.
But
In mxplayer hardware rendering does not work.
Probably the same reason is like playing the youtube.

In the olden days disabling he overlays would sometimes fix it. I haven't flashed this yet so I can't test.

It appears that there is some minor issue with the TI-specific libraries, and this is causing hardware rendering of h264 video to fail. I'll see if I can't get this fixed by the next build.

Wow! Thank you for this awesome ROM. I feel this is much smoother than CM10.2.
Applications are flipped sideways in recent bar.
Hope I can soon take screenshots. Dont really care about the youtube HD playback as my internet sucks bad.
Again thank you!

Thanks. I've noticed the flipped recents view as well.
I'm away on holidays until next Friday, and will do the next build when I get back. I'll see if some of these bugs have been fixed in the source by then, and try to address the remaining ones individually.

I'm looking into the screenshot issue.
Battery drain from android system is a known 4.3 bug with a variety of possible cause and fixes: https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=58126. It is not a bug specific to this ROM, so there is no fix I implement at my end.

OK, this has now been fixed and new build (20130917) uploaded and added to OP.

When in landscape mode, the navigation bar becomes big, ugly and flipped. I could live with this but as the buttons are flipped I accidentally press the kill app button.

I had this problem with CM10.1. I cured it by uninstalling a load of system apps. I'm not sure exactly which one was the culprit, but I think it may have been GoogleBackupTransport. The screen is now the major draw on the battery, and android system is way down in fourth place.

Thanks for the report. Carbon and Cyanogenmod handle rotation a bit differently, and this bug is probably caused by a conflict between the two implementations.
I'll have a look at fixing this over the weekend and expect the next build to be ready on Monday.
By the way, it looks like screenshot is working for you? I was assuming this issue was related to the other graphical glitches...

[ROM][CM9][JUL13-Build80] Domination - Taking Cyanogenmod to the next level

Why is this ROM "taking CyanogenMod to the next level?
CyanogenMod does not want to include many customizations like they did in cm7
But why not? We want to customize our phones!
This ROM adds more options and cherries to CyanogenMod, cherry picked from the CM gerrit, Google gerrit, AOKP gerrit, many github pages that are around or made by me
This ROM also includes a lot of experimental changes like many NEON optimized code sets, better libraries like jpeg-turbo and tweaked surface flinger, skia and many more
Want to turn the recent panel in to an app killer?
Just select the option for a kill-all button!
You want to use this big awesome screen for tablet mode?
OK! just boot in tablet mode then!
You want to reboot but don't wait to long?
Just execute a hot reboot this is 50% - 70% faster then a normal reboot
You want a custom density?
Got that covered!
Hate the default Roboto font?
Just change it to another font with the build in font changer!
Hate the stupid useless overflow menu button (onscreen menu button)?
Also got an option for that just hide it!
Hate the ugly Android Global Action (power menu) dialog?
Just change it to a nice three row picture view without text
In Android you can swipe from the top of the screen downwards to expands the status bar
Why only from the top of the screen?
In this ROM you can define actions for
Swiping top edge
Swiping left edge
Swiping right edge
Swiping bottom edge
for example if you want the hide the status bar you can simply define a swipe action for it to an edge you like
And there is many more in this ROM!
Stock but still highly customizable the way we like it
ROM:
Download portal
Gapps:
gapps-ics-20120429-modified-for-custom-density
If you have problems with the modified package flash the stock package
gapps-ics-20120429-stock
flash one of those
and if you want inverted holo black gapps instead of holo white flash this afterwards
gapps-ics-20120429-holo-black-addon
Running the new baseband on your p999? than you'll need this fix for ROM side support!
flash this after the ROMhttp://owain.hopto.org/T-Mobile LG G2x (p999)/Domination/new_baseband.zip

I can't get it to boot. I tried twice, it flashes like stupid quick, like 2 seconds. When it boots just stays at the 2nd lg splash. Maybe I got a bad download because I see it's booting for others. I'll try another DL. Thanks for the support, we all appreciate it big time!

i know for sure hellfire rom will be updated to use faster and better libs and bins within a very short time hell and i have been sending messages just now =D
and also it will get the dual pane option atleast i hope =D
they will do the same and patch the same things but this overlay is nicer to use because it doesn't edit that much framework files w2e should stick as close as possible to official sources

I can't get it to boot. I tried twice, it flashes like stupid quick, like 2 seconds. When it boots just stays at the 2nd lg splash. Maybe I got a bad download because I see it's booting for others. I'll try another DL. Thanks for the support, we all appreciate it big time!

All good brother, you're right about the bug, flashed the second time and it took about 15-20 seconds to boot. Strange, that is the first time I've encountered this bug. But thanks, nontheless! It's so cool that all the NVIDIA/LG haters are gone and the kick ass Devs are back.

Grabbed this rom about an hour ago. Got it configured and up and running. About to try it out with BMS kernel. SO far really stable and really fast. Great Job guys! Let you all know how things go at the end of the day.
Edit: One little issue, there's no charging LED. That's all I'm seeing right now.

Ask and you shall receive. I took a logcat and activated my NFC. The same problem as the others are having. Dunno what you're looking for in this, but here ya go!:good:
@goldsmitht: Usually if NFC greys out it is trying to activate the NFC driver, if it doesn't receive a response or it just doesn't activate it will simply turn it off.
@MBQ_ likely your nfc problems are because you are shipping with system/vendor/firmware/libpn544_fw.so
AOSP cannot update the chip with this firmware, when it fails to do so, it disables nfc. The only users that would have problems are those that have an older firmware loaded on their chip than what you are shipping with.
It only tries to update if the firmware it's provided is newer than the firmware already on the chip. (Hence why it would work for some people, if their previous TouchWiz rom had already updated it for them)
The fix is to just remove system/vendor/firmware/libpn544_fw.so from your vendor tree. It won't see a firmware, so it won't try to update, and won't fail. =D
I did a bit of experimenting with the 3.4 kernel and I was able to get it to successfully update, but I think it may still be problematic.

Thanks for doing that. i couldn't figure it out; the NFC and no LED lights are the only issues i saw.
I flashed the latest LK 5.5 exp. This rom is very nice and smooth. Great job development team.
navigation ring?
only thing i couldn't get to work was the navigation ring. i'd pick all my apps, click on save, but couldn't find where to activate it. Not real experienced with ROMs that use that, and may just be my noobishness showing.
thanks,
Well it's only 1pm and there are a few minor issues I've seen with the rom (along with my petty taste in features not included), but it's a pretty short list so far.
Issues:
Battery Drain (Discovered that was Kernel related. BMS with Wheatley Gov/Row scheduler seems to be working well if anyone asks)
I had to reinstall Dashclock due to my DPI settings, it goes kinda funky when it's changed, but a reinstall fixed it.
As stated before, no battery LED, notification LED seems to be working fine though
some roms had issues with soundcloud and google play music pausing whenever I hit a button or touched the screen, this however does not.
Crash test: Had 18 apps running at once and it didn't even slow down. This rom will not die!
No FCs or restarts from what I've seen.
Requests (If possible)
A way to turn off the navbar in landscape mode (for movies and such) hidden navbar's a workaround for now.
There was a nifty feature in liquidsmooth where you would swipe on the notification panel to change to power toggles, simple, but I thought it was handy if you guys are interested.
Choosing between a popup, notification, or just sound for the low battery warning. I've seen this on many roms and it is nice.
What I like about it:
Boot animation: Awesome, so simple yet elegant
The hybrid settings are very simple to use.
Having statusbar/notification tweaks in a separate category (status Extras) Very handy to keep them in the same category.
The custom icons look great.
AOKP ribbons are sick, and no screen flickering at all. I've seen flickering on every other rom EXCEPT this one with them on. Nice Job!:good:
Dark Xylon looks nice, I'm not a fan of it myself, but for testing purposes I themed the phone with it and didn't experience any issues.
Performance is in the system category of settings: It just seems to fit nicely and the performance menu is very well organized
I LOVE your guys' recents kill all icon, small touch, but very nice to set it apart from the others.
I think that's pretty much it for now, hopefully this is enough basic info after running it for a little while. Can't wait to see what you guys have cooked up for later. Excellent Job so far!

Swipe up from the navbar when you have it on. If not then try toggling/restarting. It works fine for me.
MBQ,
Just a small request, would it be possible to get the boot animation in the correct size for our S3's?
It's just a small rectangle in the middle of the screen instead of filling the whole screen.
I'm still setting it up after flashing, but so far so good! I've been waiting to try this rom out for a long time!
Thanks in advance!

4.4 mini-FAQ
Q) Root doesn't work!
A) From a clean build you need to enable root access for Superuser itself. This is different from 4.2.2 in which Superuser by default had root access on a new install. To do this, go to Settings -> Developer options -> Root access. If an app attempts to request root access before Superuser itself has access, it may cause problems with that app in the future where root requests are silently denied.
Q) Titanium Backup isn't restoring apps!
A) Change the backups folder to storage/emulated/legacy.
Known Issues
Navigation bar recents button sometimes needs to be pressed twice
Lockscreen when carousel animation is enabled dragging the camera icon messes the animation
Icons on global menu are sometimes a bit distored....not much
Network mode tile does not always work
Looking forward to helping out! I'll be assisting blk_jack with the thread as the "thread maintainer"
Been running slimkat for a couple days.... Great stuff. Can't wait to install. Thanks :high five:

Love the ROM on my Bell Galaxy S4! Fast, great battery life and very few bugs so far!
One thing though, I can't seem to find my ext SD card anywhere: I thought it would be in /storage/sdcard1 and it just seems to be an empty directory...
In System Settings -> Storage -- there is no card showed as mounted. However, when I physically remove and reinsert the card, Folder Mount detects it's removal reinsertion.
Any idea of what I can do properly mount it?
Thanks in advance!

Yeah it's the symbolic link not working. Try looking under mnt/extSdCard/ You should see everything it in.
Thanks for getting this thread going.
I'm guessing the "Original Slim Features" list in the OP is just a copy from JB. I'm pretty sure TRDS (and most of that list) doesn't exist yet!
For now, I guess change DPI in buildprop?

You're right in that the features list is from JB. We're in the process of restoring all the features from that list to KitKat. Since this is a weekly/beta build everything is changing constantly and it doesn't make sense to have a beta feature list that we have to update daily.
You can change the DPI in the buildprop, yes.
I personally don't use KK as my daily driver because it's currently missing hardware key rebinding (I'm working on currently) and SlimPIE (as well as other, smaller features I use daily).

Great work, running slimkat on my s4 and n7 2012. Are there plans to add CM power widgets or quick access ribbon to notification drawer? Not a fan of quick tiles. Thx.
Can you connect to an Microsoft Exchange server with version 4.4.1?
Thanks.

http://slimroms.net/index.php/downl...7041-slim-jfltecan-4-4-1-beta-1-5-weekly-1984
Again, if you have any problems, make sure you are on a clean install and recreate the problem and get a logcat for our developers to fix the problem.
Enjoy!
Interesting, downloading now.
Thank you!
*edit* very nice build! Been quite some time since i have used a slim rom build. What happened to "dark slim"? Not available on kitkat builds?
Sent from my SGH-I337M
I had a few issues today on 1.3
- Phone overheating after a voice call and huge battery drain
- Non responsive touch screen
I know the latter has been reported by others. Has anyone experienced the former? I'll update to 1.5 and hopefully those two issues are addressed (or were a fluke).
Gee...looks like a 1.6 weekly about 6hrs after the 1.5 :cyclops:
When I pull down the notifcation drawer or quick tiles, the back and home buttons don't make it retract.
Been running for 5 days!
Been running this ROM for 5 days (1.6 weekly).
Very stable. Almost doubled my battery life from CM10.2. Not what I could achieve with TouchWiz (4.3.1) but I hate TouchWiz so...
Only problems I encountered are gray picture when using HDR and MTP taking some time to give access to my cards (internal and external SD).
Good work! Always loved SlimROMs on my S2! Got addicted to DPI change!

Previous changelogs:
AOSPA 4.4 Final
What does 4.4 Final mean?
Current featured branch reached final stable state. Doesn’t mean at all that development has stopped You can just flash this, and feel safe.
KITKAT UPSTREAM
Android 4.4.4 upstream tag has been merged into our source.
VOLUME PANEL
The Volume Panel has been re-designed as you can see in the image below to be inline with hover, be less intrusive and more beautiful.
HOVER
Hover UI/UX has been reworked a bit for tablet users: Hover will not take the whole screen width, but it will respect notification size. Also status bar isn’t hidden when hover shows and you can pull it down when you want, as you touch status bar Hover will be dismissed to not overload on top of status bar expanded state. Another awesome thing is that un-dismissible notifications cases like screenshots etc have been solved (yea is true). Last but not least the marriage with ticker view has been reworked, when hover is enabled and you receive notifications from foreground app they will not be shown in Hover but in ticker.
PIE
Fixed a couple of issues regarding repositioning. Also, Pie now follows same behavior of navigation bar on phone when in landscape, sticks at right. Last but not least Pie is now themeable by external xml resources, by Theme Engine.
PEEK
As for Peek App our Native Peek got some love on sensors side. They should work better now. You can find latest Peek App with advanced features on Play Store, check link below.
THEME ENGINE
Merged upstream changes and added style support to Dialer app, IME switcher alert dialog and many more.
BATTERY TILE AND STATUS BAR INDICATOR
Added colorizing support for all components for both circle and stock look. Themers can play with everything now
RECENTS
Hopefully fixed rare blank screen and always show translucent decors.
DOCUMENTS UI
Updated system API to let it delete folders.
PARANOID OTA
Fixed some FCs.
TRANSLATIONS
Imported new crowdin translations.

Fixed various bugs as rare softboots and cleanups.

Working great so far.
Only could find one little glitch, which you can see in the last screenshot. That only happens in the menu for the ads settings and disappears after changing to landscape mode and back.
EDIT: Also occured in the calendar and other screens where the white theme is used.

The glitch really is minor and I don't mind it.
Unfortunately though my battery went from ~50% to less than 5% within less than 10 hours. In flightmode...
I can't be sure it is the ROM itself since I installed a couple of apps and battery usage data isn't available...
Anyone else facing the same issue?

New features like Blacklist, expandable volume panel, and SlimCenter (not fully functional to inform of updates yet).
Basic BLN support in the kernel. Enable/disable it in Settings > Sound & notification > Notification > Notification light
Should be a noticeable improvement in the occasional lag, but there seems to be a general bug related to this that affects many devices. With our device, it's more noticeable due to lower resources in general than newer devices have.
Default DPI is now set to the native device default of 240, but you can change this to several preset values in Settings > Display > LCD density.

(Main TK GApps thread on XDA)
TWRP Recovery:
TWRP 2.8.7.0 with F2FS support in IMG, TAR and ZIP formats. Thanks to @javelinanddart for compiling these.
Instructions:
Reboot to recovery.
Make a nandroid backup.
Boot into recovery. You need a newer version for lollipop. Tested with TWRP 2.8.7.0 recovery linked above.
Make a nandroid backup.
Make sure you're on one of these radios or newer for now: I727:UCMC1|I727R:UXUMA7
FULL WIPE/Format: /system, /data, /cache and /dalvik.
Flash the ROM.
Flash GApps(use Slim Mini or Zero GApps).
If you want ROOT, you have to unlock Developer Options by going to Settings > About phone and clicking on the Build number field 7 times. Then you can enable Root in Settings > Developer Options > Root access.
Reboot when finished
Boot animation is delayed 10-20 seconds, and takes about 10 minutes to boot up on a clean flash, so be patient and give it time.
Enjoy!
Note: You may not see all the ringtones, notification sounds, etc. until the phone goes to sleep, or the Media Scanner finds them. Also, check the Settings > Sound & notification > Interruptions menu to make sure these aren't disabled, as in "No interruptions". This disables the sounds.
Issues? Post a logcat on Pastebin, link to it here, and provide as many details as possible, such as ROM version, GApps used, radio/modem, cell provider, or anything relevant to the problem or how to duplicate the issue.
Enjoy!
Screen shots and stuff:
NOTE: RRO is no longer part of the Slim sources. Basic layer support is included (v1). I am not sure where this is going with Slim but feel we need a theme engine of some kind. I've left these images here for fun. If I find I can pick the RRO commits back into my builds I will try, but if we go weekly, it will have to come from the bosses...
Some screen shots using RRO Layer Theme Synergy_v4 by Brian Gill are attached.
Note you need the Bitsyko RRO Themes app, which you can get by signing up for beta testing, and then you can use Google to find other themes. Full instructions are in the link.
Note there is some Teal mixed in with the Blue, but you get the idea...

Yes sir, it's what I primarily use. It still works well, even though it's discontinued.
My computer likes to connect to the phone's USB storage with PhilZ, whereas with TWRP it has trouble sometimes.
Both should work (for now)... [emoji14]

Thanks. Well got it going, kind of... struggling with audio issues right now but hopeful. Kernel not booting is back again.
New build is up in the OP, with updated instructions. Still a WIP...
Go Pats!
Audio is working!
New build in OP with WORKING AUDIO ! Huge thanks to @gimmeitorilltell for collaborating on this! GPS locks fast... The source needs to be sorted out and pushed to Slim still, so if you're looking to build, you'll have to wait a bit. Still a WIP...
I need some people to test phone calls and SMS/MMS functionality since my Skyrocket has no SIM card. Share a link to your logcat on Pastebin if possible please.
Let's get this thing all prettied up!

OK, thanks so MMS pics aren't working? Did you set your default data type and APN correctly? If you can try other ones, it might be useful.
You can share your log using pastebin.com and providing a link here to it. If you can't post links, just spell out the url with words or PM me (if you can).
New build is up in the OP. Not a lot changed, except some source moved around on Slim since msm8660 got it's own CAF branches.
Beware if you try the torch tile, you will have to reboot to use the camera. This is an issue with the Nexus phones too and I hope to see it fixed soon.
Here's a direct link to the ROM (instructions are in the OP):
Slim-skyrocket-5.0.2.alpha.0.91-UNOFFICIAL-20150205-2203.zip
Use the latest Slim normal GApps v467 or Slim mini GApps v467. The full GApps package is very large and might not fit into the system. I had issues with apps disappearing like Play Store and Play Services issues. You don't want that deal...
Just put this on my skyrocket. Wow! Its like a new phone . So fast and smooth. I had to order a new battery though. It will be interesting to see what the battery life is really like as the one I have dies pretty quickly considering it the original. Wish I could access all 16gb of the internal memory for apps though.
