ROM vs. XBMC - Android Stick & Console Computers General

So I have Nexus, Finless and 005 downloaded and ready to flash just wondering which version of XBMC works best with each ROM.
Here is what I use it for...
- Video Streaming don't care too much about FullHD
-Internal player, No external like MX player because it has to be "wife" friendly
- HDMI goes directly to TV so no pass through
Thanks in advance

Anyone using DicePlayer?

Has anyone here been using DicePlayer as their video player? I just bought it recently after the dev fixed a subtitle issue I pointed out on the spot.
It can play 1080p high profile MKV's with just about any audio format (AC3, FLAC, etc.) on the Infuse and Galaxy S series without any sort of lag or reduced quality. Even the Galaxy S2 can't do that out of the box (it fails the "birds" test). Everything is completely hardware accelerated, so it doesn't drain battery as much as software players—CPU sits at 400MHz during playback. It also has the second-best subtitle rendering (internal MKV SSA/SRT supported) I've seen behind MX Video Player.
And best of all, it works with ANY ROM. MKV support was one of the few things originally holding me back from using non-Samsung ROM's, but now I can watch my Bluray rips on MIUI or CM7 without any issues.
THANK YOU! I've been looking for the perfect video player for CM7, and this one is it. Now I just have to wait for MHL functionality...

good find. if it weren't for mhl I might run cm7 or miui with that. also just a comment, its a shame that the manufacturers can't write software this good, and the ones that can don't care to offer it to the customer. imagine if Samsung had full documentation on mhl and all the video drivers, developers like the creater of this app could make these phones amazing.
Awesome man thanks a ton. Been looking for a MKV playerfor my infuse for a while that actually WORKS
ok guys the developer doesnt have this up for purchase now because of a problem with their account but i was playing with this and the mhl together and it actually doesnt mirror when using mhl, it output native resolution of the video just like the samsung player but scans better and plays smoother! i highly recommend this app to all!. i downloaded some 1080p trailers and played them through a computer monitor and there is no way they were playing at a lower resolution the clarity was amazing. i would have expected it to be downconverted to the res of the phone screen but no, something with the way the video drivers and opengl libraries are working gives the mhl full hd output with dice player as well as the samsung player. but the subtitles dont play through mhl, something i can live with for sure. also the annoying touch screen controls dont output through mhl unless it is in software decoding mode which is a plus.
i cant wait till they get their market account fixed so i can buy this app.

This is the only video player I found that could playback 720p mkv smoothly through dnla on my Samsung Galaxy S. Here's my setup.
Samsung Galaxy S / Skifta / Diceplayer (Full purchased off the market in Nov 2011)
Server running Serviio dnla server
1080p stutters but I think that is down to the single core in the Galxy S. 720p smooooooth.
I paid £3.35 in Nov for the full version of Diceplayer from the market but now can't reinstall since changing rom as I can't download it again from the market?
I didn't backup my apps with titanium before doing the upgrade or I could restore the app only.
I have emailed the developer with my receipt but have received no reply.
I could try and get hold of the apk but am unsure if the market license check will work when there is a problem with the developers checkout account?
Any ideas?

If you bought it through the market, you should be able to redownload it through your Google account. I recently reinstalled DicePlayer through the market, even with that notice on the market page (although it was on the same ROM). Also, 1080p doesn't stutter on my Captivate. It's probably the video, as even certain 720p videos stutter on my Infuse with DicePlayer (but only a specific couple of files).

[Q] Watching 720p MKV on SGR

Is there any video player for Samsung Galaxy R that can play 720p H264 videos with high profile of encoding [like any TV series release that can be found on the web]? I heard that Tegra2 is not really good with such kind of videos, but i really did not have any luck with finding any program that can play them back [they all stutter badly].
Also, if no solution can be found, can you recommend me some pc server/android client that can transcode that type of videos and stream them over the wifi?
Thanks.
DICE Player, MX Video Player. In my play very smoothly, without jamming.

[Q] 1080 & 720p software rendering with XBMC

Hi,
I'm searching for a tablet that can run xbmc movies with software render, mostly because when android use hardware decoding, they don't output via mhl the overlays, like player UI and subtitles.
I saw Asus infinity users say they can't run 1080 or 720 movies without bugs, that's maybe because Asus IO issues, since Samsung don't have this issues, anyone tested or can test if can run 720 and 1080 movies without freezes?
Thank you very much!
I use ES File explorer as it can see files on the LAN via samba.
Then I use MX Player (free) for playback. There is the option for SW or HW decoding.
Runs well without freezing. No media server necessary.
Ty.
I use dice player, they can access smb shares directly, without need es explorer.
But what I want is use the XBMC UI in my tv via mhl, and need run in sotfware decoding, if run in hardware, the UI and subs don't show.
I think I'll need to buy a iPad.
If you must
I never liked XBMC cuz I never saw the point of it. Aside from the gorgeous UI of course.
All my files on my hard drives are arranged by year & genre etc with proper names so I don't need a library feature.
And it's big and bulky. Kinda like why I replaced WMP with MPC etc.
If you're buying an iPad just to play media files, why not get a media player instead?
Western Digital makes some good ones, as does Micca.
Think I'll try out Dice player. Didn't like it before for some reason, maybe that has changed with an update.
You might try XBMC for android as well...
lol IS xbmc for android I'm talking about, I want know if note 10.1 and run 720p files IN xbmc for android.
D'oh. LOL

Which version of xbmc works good with android tv stick? And subtitles / mx player

My version of xbmc is linked to mx player as it works better . Not sure if the official versions have been fixed to work on android properly but I want to use the subtitles addon within xbmc ? But I can't get it to work with the mx player ..
In the default xbmc player you just have to press the little square with the circle in it . But not sure if there is an automatic way with mx player / xbmc
Is there a way I can switch between players in xbmc as a work around ?

MX Player on Android TV / Fire TV Stick 4K - stereo only?

Hi all.
I try to get MX Player to play dolby 5.1 or dts sounds on my TV.
Specs:
- TV: Philips OLED POS 9002 with Android Oreo
- Sound: Bose Soundtouch 300 Soundbar with rear speakers, connected optical. Can play Dolby Digital and DTS.
- App: either direct (using USB) or via DS Video and streaming from NAS. Latest version from Google Play Store.
No matter if I use a custom codec (mx_neon.zip) or not and any decoder (hw+, hw, sw), if I try to play certain test vidoes from here: https://kodi.wiki/view/Samples
especially the channel checks and it is some sort of upmix from stereo, but definitely no disctinct channel selection.
To be exact: I did not test all variations (custom, standard, all decoder) so far...
--> it seems there is exactly the same behavior with my new Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K - only stereo as well...
Is there anything that I can test or do or try to get it work. Besides the sound issue, DS Video and MX Player are working very well, it would be a pity that due to sound issues I can not use it for anything else than stereo.
Thank you for any hint.
Best regards

We regret the inconveniences caused by the delay in our response. Unfortunately, MX Player does not support audio audio passthrough mode over SPDIF at the moment. However, it is applicable only to the HW+ / SW decoder.
HW decoder directly makes use of Android mediaplayer framework on the device. So, If it is implemented to use audio passthrough mode, it should work as expected. Please check whether there any system settings that can enable the audio passthrough made. Enabling it may let you allow passing the audio directly to the external audio system.
Thank you for your reply.
The soundbar is connected either optical or via HDMI ARC.
As it is working with the internal media player and with Kodi (enabling all passthrough options), but not with VLC (same effect), it might be a bug of the current firmware (there is a similar bug concerning 1920x800 video and the black bars which is present with third-party-apps as Kodi, VLC and MX player, but not with Amazon prime video and the internal player). I opened a ticket at Philips. Let's see how it develops.
As mentioned: as it works with the internal player it seems that the overall settings are correct.

5.1 sound is only stereo on Philips android TV

I have the same problem with philips 43pus7304 android TV. Internal player and Nova Video Player can play 5.1 AC3 sound, but mx player and vlc can't - my av receiver shows that input signal is only stereo. I tried it via hdmi arc and optical - the same result. Please fix this - mx player is the best of all, but such a bug!
I tried all kinds of settings in your player ant tv - but problem is somewhere else but not in settings. Also I tried default decoder and mx_aio.zip.
I seem to having the same issue at the moment. The internet player on the app I'm using is fine, I'm getting DD plus showing. When I change to use an external player, either Mx or VLC or always shows as stereo 2.0.
Tried various settings and codecs and so far no luck.
Any ideas?
I’m having this same issue on FireTV 4k
Did anyone find a solution for this issue?
Has there been any updates to this issue?
Still no update in sight? There are so many topics on this
I have the same problem on sony A8 oled. With inbuilt player I get 5.1 to AV receiver. Mx player and vlc stereo only. The problem is that the inbuilt player won't stream from a NAS while mx player and vlc will, but stereo only. So I have to copy files to tv.
Any ideas?
Thank you
Just for the sake of update on alternative options.
I've spent 2 days trying to find the working solution to stream my files from NAS on Amazon FireTV stick with 5.1 audio output.
My setup:
FireTV Stick > HDMI Audio Extractor box > TV
HDMI Audio Extractor > Optical > Logitech Dolby Digital 5.1 (Z906)
While Amazon Prime and Netflix play 5.1 just fine, I was struggling to make it work with NAS stored files.
ES File Explorer, MIXplorer, Xplore built-in players do not support audio passthrough
MX Player - while it has some options for audio passthrough - I have failed to make it work, in the end I was getting stereo downmix no matter what I've tried in settings
VLC player - same as for MX Player
Nova player - found a hint in this thread and tried it. Indeed, it was the first success. But partial. AC3 passthrough worked fine, but AAC/DTS tracks were failing, so with passthrough enabled - no sound for AAC/DTS
I continued searching for alternatives and finally found almost perfect solutions: Vimu media player
It's not free, by 3 bucks don't hurt.
While Vimu also supports passthrough for AC3 only... it has BUILT-IN transcoding support to convert AAC/DTS/DTS HD/etc. into AC3!!! And I confirm it works! Also it has very clean interface to browse your Network storage devices, so you can skip using File managers and navigate through your library directly from Vimu. However I am missing a bit some of the functionalities from Nova like metadata / description/posters fetching from online databases.
The only Vimu feature which was not working well for me was 'Preferred Audio language' - despite of having English enabled, it was still playing first track by default.
Hope someone will find this helpful and will save some time

Thank You for this information, you are absolutely right, Vimu does pass the Dolby 5.1 and probably Dolby Atmos(I don't have a receiver for Atmos) on thru my LG tv to my receiver from my 4k Firestick! I was only able to get Netflix and Prime to do that until I loaded Vimu and it plays my local movie files from my server perfectly. Had previously tried MXPlayer, VLC, and several others to no avail! Thanks again!
