[Q] MMS not working on OdysseyHybrid-v2.71-RC-Delay fix) 9|04|13 - HTC One S

Hello, i can't post in the dev section so have to make my question in here.
The mms is not working on the OdysseyHybrid-v2.71-RC-Delay fix) rom.
They start the data connection, but it not concludes the sending nor the receiving.
In Viper 2.2.0, using GO SMS PRO, you can receive an mms and it will fetch if automatically, but in this rom that doesn't happen.
Other question is the delay fix.In my case, the delay still stands.
Can anyone confirm my two cases? and point me to some solution.

Usually what you describe is a result of bad mms APN configuration.
Try reconfiguration through your service provider's described settings.

I've done that. double checked and nothing. it starts to send with "H" than switches to "3G" and then stops and the MMS is not send.

The "stupid" thing is that, using the default sms app, the mms is sent.
And using the GO SMS PRO no.

I tried to remove the GO SMS PRO, and installed the new version from Play Store, but still the same problem.

You might have to go into GoSMS app and manually set the APN there too.
I don't use GoSMS anymore so nothing in front of me to show you the steps but just look around in settings.
OK try this
Open GoSMS and press the Menu key.
Select Settings>MMS settings>APN Configuration
Put a checkmark next to Fill APN Configuration Manually
Fill in the following:
(Should be same from your phone's APN settings for MMS)
MMSC:
MMS Proxy:
MMS Port:

thanks for the idea, but it didn't work
I think i'm going to switch to some other rom.
can you point me one that presents the same simple structure of the Odyssey and don't have the wake lag?
thanks again.

Thanks for the help.
Going to try other ROM.

[Q] Nexus S and Softbank (Japan): How to get it working?

Hey guys,
I seriously need your help. I can't receive MMS (S!Mail) with my Nexus S and the japanese carrier Softbank, no matter what I try. Last year the same problem with my old Motorola Milestone.
Android 2.3.5, CM ROM #167 nightly
Baseband: I9023XXKD1
In 2009, I bought a silver USIM Prepaid from Softbank (still valid) with a Softbank 822p phone.
Until now I tried the smile.world and openmms APN, different Apps (Handcent SMS, Go SMS Pro, Softbank Mail), but I can only receive notifications. It shows a download button, but if I hit that, I get the instant error "download not possible. Please try again later". Wifi turned off.
This didn't help as well:
http://ryufly.wordpress.com/2011/07...end-receive-mms-after-upgrading-to-cm7-1-rc1/
If anybody can help, that would be great! Every little hint is appreciated.
does the softbank mail app not work?
found this:
http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...arp-Android-phones-with-Softbank-(Go-SMS-Pro)
Using another SMS/MMS app on Sharp Android phones with Softbank (Go SMS Pro)
First download the following apps:
Go SMS Pro
Go SMS Emoji Plugin
Under Receive Settings, check the Disable other message notification checkbox. This means SMS will only be received in Go SMS but unfortunately it cannot stop the MMS from being received by the stock app (more on that later)
In MMS Settings:
Check the Fill user agent manually checkbox (under User Agent)
Change the user agent to this:
Vodafone/1.0/V802SE/SEJ002 Browser/VF-NetFront/3.3 Profile/MIDP2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1
(Cant make any mistakes, so best to copy/paste)
Under APN Configuration, select Custom Access Point
MMSC: http://mms
MMS Proxy: sbmmsproxy.softbank.ne.jp
MMS Port: 8080
Under Important Tips, select the checkbox saying Stock messaging app uninstalled
If you dont select this then Go SMS wont download MMS at all. In that case Go SMS can be used for SMS only (i.e. other Softbank only) - MMS would go to the stock Softbank app.
In my case i hated how the Softbank app chews up 100% of the CPU for about 30 seconds as it tries to download an MMS. When you are playing a game it really makes you hate the sender for screwing up your gameplay!
Lastly go into the Softbank mail application
Settings → S!Mail Settings → Receive/Display Settings → Mail receive method → Change to Sender/Subject only. Then under notification settings, turn off the lamp, turn off vibration, change the notification sound to be something quiet like "Facebook Pop"
After all of that, when you get an email you will get a double notification - one from Go SMS and one from Softbank. Thats unavoidable unless you uninstall the Softbank app. But only Go SMS will get the full MMS, and you can keep ignoring the Softbank mail notifications
Seems to be working good for me so far. I love being able to type and reply to messages without the annoying "sending" screen. And being able to see new messages as they appear instead of having to get out of the message being edited, to see the new messages

i can confirm it works on my DHD
The key is not only getting the right apns but also getting that user agent string in your mms app.
Cyanogen mod can do it, or go sms pro too if you don't want to run cm.
@SQ3.0dotJP
Not even the Softbank Mail App works, giving me the same error message as other apps. The solution you quoted wont work as well.
Regarding error messages: the only thing I can achieve is that either I get an instant error message (cant download...) or a timout error message (trying to download...after some time: cant download).
I think it's a minor detail, but I cant figure it out.
@patrixl
How to configure the User Agent with CyanogenMod? The only option I know is within message apps like Go SMS Pro and Handcent SMS.
The user agent code is in the line i posted. You tried it in go with no results? Wish i could help. Where are you BTW?

Never heard of it and won't finde informations about it with google. Could you elaborate on it a bit?
Hi guys,
I've spent the entire day trying to get this to work.
Just FYI, I have a Nexus S, rooted, Cyanogen mod 7 and just got a prepaid sim from softbank.
I've followed the instructions given here to the letter. Go SMS Pro is certainly a better app than the Softbank crap.
I can received messages, as in I caan see the title, but when I click them it says "Currently Unable to Download. Please Try Again Later". The same thing happens in the softbank app or another mms.apk I got where you could change the User Agent from a list. I also cannot send any messages, it just sits there with the little circle going around and around.
I've tried both the APNs that came with the Sim (Softbank(open) and Softbank(smile.world)) with no luck at all. I also downloaded the App the guy in the quoted post suggested, but it fails with any APN or web proxy combination.
I've also looked at other APNs online and tried a whole bunch.
I don't understand what setting is wrong. I've literally spent about 8 hours on this now, and I think I may be going a little crazy.
ANY help with this will be rewarded with knowing you have made my year (or at least my month).
Thanks very very much,
N.
SOLVED! Nexus S on Softbank Prepaid!
:clapping:
Hopefully this will help others who troll online trying to get their Android (perhaps a Nexus S) to work with Prepaid Softbank.
For the fix, I did the following. Note, one or two parts MAY be unneccesary, I'll test it all later. A quick note, I initially installed the Softbank Mail app from the Market, but since I'm rooted I just uninstalled it after it was all working and it still works GREAT! So you DON'T NEED to use that app. Just FYI.
Download the following:
Go SMS Pro
Go SMS Emoji (if you like Emoji)
Softbank Mail (Get rid of this if you are rooted)
Follow the instructions as stated by Tokyo_Dom, repeated here:
Go SMS
Softbank Mail
Settings → S!Mail Settings → Receive/Display Settings → Mail receive method → Change to Sender/Subject only. Then under notification settings, turn off the lamp, turn off vibration, change the notification sound to be something quiet like "Facebook Pop"
APN Settings
On your Android, go to "Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks". Make sure only "Date enabled" is checked, you don't need national or international roaming.
Then click "Access Point Names". Here I deleted EVERYTHING so it wouldn't get confused. I don't want 3G internet, as on Prepaid it is crazy expensive.
Add a new APN with the following details:
Name: Mail Web Service (This can be anything you want)
APN: mailwebservice.softbank.ne.jp
Proxy: sbwapproxy.softbank.ne.jp
Port: 8080
Username:softbank
Password:qceffknarlurqgbl
Server: <Not set>
MMSC: http://mms/ (< This is "http : // mms /" without the spaces if the forum removes urls)
MMS Proxy: sbmmsproxy.softbank.ne.jp
MMS Port:8080
MCC:440
MNC:20
Authentication: PAP
APN type: mms
Save this. Now, at this point you SMail/MMS MIGHT be working. If it is, congrats and please let me know. If it isn't there are a few further steps that should get you there. I've found these on different forums, so appologies if I don't give credit where due. I think I found them here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21545288
PPP File
There MAY be a file on your phone at : / system / etc / ppp / peers / pppd-Ril.options.
There wasn't on mine, but I created one anyway (oh yeah, probably need to be rooted for this). It contains two lines for the Username and password, which you must change to correspond to the same username and password in your APN settings. Otherwise, it never seems to use the right one, and therefore your MMS or data will not work. You'll need to root your phone and figure out how to edit or copy an edited file onto your phone. So, change those two lines to look like this:
user softbank
password qceffknarlurqgbl
Give it a try and see if it all works.
Data On/Off
For some reason, whenever I first turn on the phone, the messaging only receives a header for each message, but refuses to download the actual message body. Even if I click 'download' on the message in the message app, it will not work, and will give me an error.
For the solution, everytime you start up your android, go to "Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks". UNCHECK "Date enabled", then reCHECK "Date enabled".
It was specifically after this fix that my messages started to be downloaded. It may have been this alone, but I already did the other bits. I might investigate more later, but I don't want to stop a good thing ATM.
SOME OTHER TIPS AND TRICKS
1) Make sure the APN is set to "mms".
I also found that it would work with the APN type set to blank instead of 'mms' in my APN settings. HOWEVER, with it set to blank, it was CONSTANTLY, I mean non-stop, using my 3G connection (as indicated in the status bar). It was trying to connect to the internet I presume. My Softbank prepaid service includes messaging but not internet service, nor do I have the APN for internet in my settings. But, without specifying my mms APN as 'mms' type, it trys to use that APN for internet as well. Anyway, that drained my battery very quickly! Set it to 'mms' so your 3G radio isn't working overtime to no benefit.
2) Alternate APNS that MIGHT work
APN: mailwebservice.softbank.ne.jp
Proxy: leave blank
Port: leave blank
Username:softbank
Password:qceffknarlurqgbl
Server:leave blank
MMSC:http://mms/
MMS Proxy: sbmmsproxy.softbank.ne.jp
MMS Port:8080
MCC:440
MNC:20
APN type: mms
Name: Open Softbank
APN: mailwebservice.softbank.ne.jp
Proxy:
Port:
username: softbank
Password: qceffknarlurqgbl
Server:
MMSC: sbmmsproxy.softbank.ne.jp
MMS Port: 8080
MCC: 440
MNC: 20
Authentication type: PAP
APN type: mms
The major difference is MMSC and MMSC Proxy. On my phone I leave the „MMS proxy“ field blank, and the proxy address from this article (sbmmsproxy.softbank.ne.jp) into the MMSC field.
apn carrier="SoftBank Internet"
mcc="440"
mnc="20"
apn="andglobal.softbank.ne.jp"
user="andg001softbank"
password="pumbbghkpgyybsxa"
mmsc="http://mms/"
mmsproxy="andmms.softbank.ne.jp"
mmsport="8080"
type="default,mms"
preferred="true"
Name: Softbank(open)
APN: open.softbank.ne.jp
Proxy: <not set>
Port: <not set>
Username: opensoftbank
Password: ebMNuX1FIHg9d3DA
Server: <not set>
MMSC: http://mms/

Sorry for MegaPost, just wanted to put this togeather for others to make it easy. It's about 24 hours work to finally get it sorted.
Thanks for clarifying things! I should have no problems now.
hey travisler just wondering - is your Nexus s a cdma version? I've been trying to get prepaid s-mail to work on my samsung captivate and it hasn't really been working. I'm just wondering if it's a hardware issue like whether the captivate just can't connect to softbank's mms network
Hey tanjierong,
My phone is from Korea so is GSM I'm pretty sure.
It is all still working fine, if you can connect to softbank (ie. you can make a call or recieve) then this hack should work for you. It has worked for a few other friends here too now with random android phones.
Hope you get it sorted.
Thanks
Omg travisler... I've been cracking my head since one month in Japan. Using Xperia s and I just can't get the app working. Tried several methods like pushing through mms.apk file using adb still doesn't works. Until I came across your post, works like a charm dude. Thanks a lot. Now I don't have to carry two phones at once :fingers-crossed:
Great bit of info you have provided here travisler.
I have put my Softbank 'dumbphone' (708sc) grey SIM into my Motorola Milestone, Cyanogenmod 7 phone. I want to use it like a 'dumbphone' that can use wifi so I have no need for a 'smartphone' data plan. It works as a telephone and I am in the process of getting 'text messaging' working. I have been reading quite a bit online and there is much information about getting MMS to work.
When one enables data as the APN guide instructs, this will only apply to MMS and not accidentally lead to huge bills for someone without a smart-phone data plan will it?
I followed the 'GO SMS' guide but not the 'APN Settings' guide and I ignored 'Softbank Mail', then rebooted. I get a new MMS sender and title notification in GO MMS Pro but when I try to download the full message I get the warning "please check that the network is available".
So I followed the instructions in the 'APN Settings' guide. There were already a couple of Softbank APNs there, they had a radio button beside them but my new one didn't. After a reboot there was a new icon (3G?) in the notification bar and I could download MMS but the first SB APN was still checked - I suppose the phone was using that SB APN and not the custom one. I removed both the original 2 SB APNs and rebooted and now I am back to receiving the warning "please check that the network is available" when I try to download MMS.
My MMS address is ****@q.vodafone.ne.jp as I already had a Vodafone subscription when Softbank took over and I cannot change the address to ****@softbank.ne.jp, would this require a tweak on the MMS settings I inputted?
Or perhaps my SIM card is the issue. It is not a 'pre-paid' SIM but one from my contracted 'dumb-phone'.
I'd appreciate some help please.
Thank you very much!
This worked for me with the white prepaid SIM.
I did all the steps you listed and used the first APN settings that you recommended, except that I had to set the APN type to "default, mms".
If I only enter "mms", I would sometimes get the 3G icon, but I could not download the messages.
I tried this and still no go. I have a sh203 sharp from softbank. I added the apn but i cannot edit the stock apn since i cannot find a way to root my phone.
When i chose the apn i created i loose my internet data..

[FIX (Possibly)] MMS sending/receiving Issues

So this has been bothering me since the first time I flashed a custom rom on my G2x (had this phone since late September), I know that my data speeds suck and that it's common for a custom rom to mess up our phones' data sending/receiving capabilities (using a mobile network that is). So I've been searching, calling technical support, and playing around with my phone for a long time, and I might have just figured it out, so why not share
To make it clear, this is for anyone who has 2 SEPARATE APNs (one for internet access and one for MMS), especially wind users, since I'm one. No harm can be done from trying this, if it doesn't work for you, just restore your APNs to default and move on.
So here it goes:
In settings -> wireless & networks -> mobile networks -> access point names -> Wind CA MMS (or whatever your MMS APN is), now change the APN type to <not set> (i.e. delete whatever's there and hit ok) and change Authentication type to None (it's usually <not set> by default) then hit the menu button and save.
What this mainly does is it breaks the link between the internet APN and the MMS APN, so to use one of them you'd have to manually select the relevant one then do what you need to do (i.e. now you have to manually select Wind CA MMS (or whatever your MMS APN is) from the access point names menu, turn data on, send/download your MMS, then do whatever you want after, or go back and select Wind CA (or whatever your internet APN is) to get internet access)
By default the 2 APNs are linked and when you need to use MMS your phone switches to the proper APN, then switches back when you need internet access. I'm guessing my phone's been having a hard time finding it's way to my MMS APN (even with it's dual core processor lol) since the data icon usually disappears as soon as I hit send! So doing this manually is more work but it solves the problem (for me at least, and hopefully for you )
I know this sounds like a pain, but I've been able to send and receive MMS at speeds I've never seen before on my phone
Good luck and don't forget to hit the thanks button whenever appropriate

I wasn't trying to be an ass or anything, sorry dude! I don't use the xda app on devices I usually log on through the browser, so I don't know how the app works! I just thought it was strange that you asked, forgive me if I insulted you in any way.
The thing is, the carrier I'm with has limited coverage in Canada and my area was only recently added plus they used to have one APN for both internet and MMS which worked better but they changed it and it's been giving me problems ever since! But with this fix I can send/receive MMS in seconds now
I'm a wind user in waterloo as well. I did notice the phone gets confused sometimes when I try to send a MMS, it'll send it but every once in a while show up in the message screen to resend (over and over again).
Anyway so I tried to change the settings, the phone let me save those settings saying "The APN cannot be empty." Although when I look at the APN, it clearly says <not set> like in your original post...

It's not the APN you need to change, it's the APN type, should be the second to last entry in the list, try it out and let me know if it works
And my solution is....
Here is how i fixed my MMS send/receive issue on WIND with cm7..
1. Restore APN to default
2. Change user-agent in Messaging->settings to Android-Mms/2.0 which is the default "Custom" on cm7
3. Enjoy your MMS sending are receiving.
PS. You will still get disconnected when sending MMS.
EDIT: if you are updating your RIL (using getRIL or any other method) to V11H or something other than v20c (CM7 default RIL) change the user-agent in Messaging Messaging->settings to the default on cm7. Otherwise you will not be able to send MMS with the v11H ril.
Thank you Good_Newz ! This did the trick!

Have you tried sending mms to yourself from your phone? or from another wind phone if you have one handy? (to see if you receive them)
My brother and I both have wind's G2x and I haven't had any problems with mms ever since i figured out the fix in the op, but my brother can't seem to receive from iphones especially (even with the fix)!! I guess it varies from one phone to another, or it's sender's phone has issues

unable to MMS on Tsugi Rom
hi fellow wind & Xda users, its great to find wind users here.
i would really like to solve this issue as everything else is working for me now, im using Tsugi's final rom ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1358724 )and its great however in APN list i have four things listed
(will attach screen shot as well)
-internet (internet.windmobile.ca)
-Wind CA (internet.windmobile.ca)
-MMS (mms.windmobile.ca)
-Wind CA MMS (mms.windmobile.ca)
the first two are selectable , makes sense as i have internet .... also i can not modify any of the above , it says " default apn cannot be modified"
i created two new APN just like the last two but left the type Blank, didn't solve the issue.
what do you guys suggest or what am i doing wrong? how can i manually change those settings? perhaps through root explorer? thanks
EDIT: Also as i didn't have any input in TYPE ( blank) i was able to select the two new entries i created but i wasn't able to send/receive mms, when i added MMS to the type , they became un-selectable like the default mms entries! when i remove the mms type and leave blank i again can select them.

I think the fact that you cannot modify the default APN is a 2.3.3/2.3.4 specific issue, when I first created this thread I was running EB (which is 2.3.7) and had no problem modifying. If I were you, I would reset to default (hopefully you can do that on 2.3.4), Try modifying one more time, if that doesn't work, try a different messaging app like go sms and in MMS settings fill in all the APN information manually, hopefully that will work. Also, (if you haven't tried already) you could install getril from the market and see if your rils match, if not install a recommended one. If none of that works, maybe consider using a different rom, I found that MMS works on MIUI roms without having to apply the fix in the OP, and you can definitely modify the default APN on 2.3.7 roms.
Good luck

Also, (if you haven't tried already) you could install getril from the market and see if your rils match, if not install a recommended one. If none of that works, maybe consider using a different rom, I found that MMS works on MIUI roms without having to apply the fix in the OP, and you can definitely modify the default APN on 2.3.7 roms.
Good luck

i tried everything you mentioned above and i am even running a MIUI rom right now , 2.3.7 with gosms, mms setting manually setup and even tried the OP fix with MIUI but still no luck,
only thing i can think of is when i checked the RILS eventhough it said it matches, it was recommending a different one for me, do you think that could be it? its kinda frustrating lol, i'll also flash to stock now and see if i'll still have the mms problem if not then i guess its the custom roms otherwise i don't know

What exactly is the problem you're having? You can't send or receive mms at all? or is it occasional? or is it just one sided (as in you can't send, but can receive, or the other way around)?
This might be a stupid question, and I don't mean anything by it, people just forget the simplest things sometimes! Do you have data enabled when you try to send or download an mms? (it took me a while to find out that I needed data enabled lol)
You can try to do a hard reset, a lot of users find that it works. While the phone is on, pull out the battery, then the sim card, wait at least 30 seconds, then put them back in and try to send something (like a picture) to yourself. Try this at least 3 times just to make sure (unless it works the first time).
Also, if all else fails, using go sms, you can send and download an mms using wifi, I used that for a while until I got my data to work.
If your rils are matching I don't think installing a recommended one would make a difference, the important thing is that they match.
Other than that I honestly don't know what to tell you, it might be an issue specific to your device. The very last thing you can do is restore to stock and go to a wind store and have them either fix it for you or send it in for repair, I'm sure your warranty hasn't expired yet.

It's normal for the data icon to appear next to wifi. With separate APNs the phone is usually connected to the internet one when data is enabled, but when you use mms the phone tries to switch to the mms APN which is (in my opinion) where the phone is failing, that's also why the data icon disappears when you hit send, it's trying to switch from one APN to the other, but fails!! Which kinda sucks. Either way, I'm currently running RG2x-MIUI v2.2.24 and here are my APN settins:
For internet access:
Name: Wind CA
APN: internet.windmobile.ca
Proxy: <Not set>
Port: <Not set>
Username: <Not set>
Password: <Not set>
Server: <Not set>
MMSC: <Not set>
MMS proxy: <Not set>
MMS port: <Not set>
MCC: 302
MNC: 490
Authentication type: None
APN type: default,supl
APN protocol: IPv4
For mms:
Name: Wind CA MMS
APN: mms.windmobile.ca
Proxy: <Not set>
Port: <Not set>
Username: <Not set>
Password: <Not set>
Server: <Not set>
MMSC: http://mms.windmobile.ca
MMS proxy: 74.115.197.70
MMS port: 8080
MCC: 302
MNC: 490
Authentication type: None
APN type: <Not set>
APN protocol: IPv4
Also, I guess in MIUI there's an auto-Switch option if you have more than one APN, doesn't really matter if it's on or off, doesn't help!

MMS not working

Anyone else having this issue. Not sure when it started as I didnt send an image up until today.
Yesterday did an unlock and root on mine. Just says "queue for sending" then after 5-10mins it says couldnt send. I also cant receive mms of course. It says "message not downloaded". Im on t-mobile and I already checked their site for mms and lte/4g apn settings. I also redownloaded the settings from within the phone. its a D6653
sorry for the big image.

gave that try and didnt work either. just delaying the "message couldnt send" . can you think of anything else my friend?
Are you absolutely sure that you don't have a typo somewhere in the APN settings? Is you mobile data otherwise working as supposed to be? This, for sure, is not a problem of the phone for it works just flawless on mine.

Try Textra, IMHO, it's a lot better than Sony's app (And most outthere BTW) and just go to MMS settings and select the option that says something about T-Mobile Wifi calling Fix. What this does is turn-off/on the wifi while it sends or receive an MMS. T-Mobile seems to be having tons of issues with MMS while in Wifi.
No typos. Data and sms work. And I am at work right now and tried to send a mms to see if it was the wifi sip calling but it isn't.

I've had to add MMS proxy and port to apn:
216.155.165.50
port 80
give that a try. It worked for me on my OnePlus One (manually added to all texting/SMS apps and it worked)
I also am having problems with MMS.
I don't really live in an area with great service, so I really rely on Wi-Fi calling. On my Galaxy S5, I had to use the stock message app to actually be able to do anything with MMS over Wi-Fi. Now with the Z3, MMS does not really work at all. I keep getting "Message not downloaded" for any MMS I recieve, excpet for one picture I was able to get. Any MMS I get does not stay in a group chat, but goes into their respective contact chat.
I tried Textra, but I wasn't able to get any of my MMS messages to send. I went into the settings and checked a few boxes, but that didn't really do anything.
Hopefully our problems have the same resolution.
So I finally fixed mine. I downloaded the Internet and mms settings via phone then I added admin to apn type and changing apn protocol to ipv4/ipv6. The apn protocol is thanks to se100 who told me in this thread.

Alright Duke,
Where did you go to download the internet and mms settings?
Once you got them, what'd u do next? I got to the "Edit access point" screen but it's all greyed-out so I can't choose anything. I have "Developers Options" enabled too btw. So how do I bypass that grey-out like you did??
Do I need to be rooted?
So you have no more issues with sending/receiving photo text msgs? What about from iPhones? I'm only having mms issues with iPhone phones right now.
Thank You,

To download the settings you need to go to settings->more->Internet Settings. That downloads them after go to Mobile Networks->Access Points Names and then you can click the three dot on top to edit the one you pick.

When I go to Settings and then More, I DO NOT see "Internet Settings" anywhere on that screen, or in 3-dots menu button.
Did you have an issue with receiving MMS messages from iPhones?? Please answer this question. If not, then this method prob won't help me anyway. I'm having an issue with receiving MMS messages from iPhones only. Still get SMS from iPhones, and regular and MMS msgs from Android.

I have T-Mobile too but only have the Z3. I don't own an iPhone. When I send MMS pics to iPhone it DOES go through, but I can't receive FROM an iPhone the MMS messages.
I'm using regular Android (Build #: 23.0.D.1.123). You?
I want to do what you did, but I don't see that "Internet Options" screen you do after clicking on More. So I can't proceed from there. I can get to "Access Point Names" but after that I can't edit APN there.... I can only create a new one. But without that downloaded info, I don't know if it will work? Maybe.
I just decided to create a new one and take my chances. But I added in what you had in your screenshot, including the admin thing (I hope that's not a root thing) and also IPv4/IPv6. Waiting for one of my iPhone friends to MMS me and hopefully it works!!
Edit: It didn't work. lol I just had him tap on msg before sending and choose "Send as a text message". Then it goes through as a regular text msg NOT as an iMessage. That DID work. So either iPhone users must do that for me or else turn off stupid iMessage. lol

Yeah but this was not an issue of switching. I never had an iPhone. It's just that the few ppl I know that do have to take that extra step in order for me to receive MMS messages from them.

re:
I live in the Chicago area, and have T-Mobile.
I use Textra as well since the Z3's stock messenger app clearly CANNOT handle MMS properly. This is what worked for me....................
1) Add a NEW APN (Settings-->More-->Mobile networks-->Access Point Names ((APN))-->push the + sign button) using these settings (and make sure to select it after creating and saving it):
Name: T-Mobile Data 2
APN: fast.t-mobile.com
Proxy: not set
Port: not set
Username: not set
Password: not set
Server: not set
MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
MMS proxy: not set
MMS port: not set
MMS protocol: WAP 2.0 <---(DOES NOT APPLY TO THE Z3, BUT OTHER PHONE USERS MAY WANNA TRY IT)
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
Auth Type: not set
APN type: default,mms,supl,admin,hipri
APN proto: IPv4/IPv6
APN roaming proto: IPv4/IPv6
APN enable/disable: enable
Bearer: unspecified
2) Disable Stock Messenger app, making sure in "App info" screen (in Settings) that the "Notifications" box is unchecked. (Not sure if unchecking it matters, but I'd do it anyway.) Also, under Stock Messenger's settings, make sure ALL boxes are unchecked as well.
3) In Textra (download this great text SMS/MMS messaging app if you haven't already from Google Play Store), make sure it's your default app, "Use MMS for Group Chats" should be checked, MMS Settings: No Limit, and check the T-Mobile Wifi Calling Fix box too.
4) In Phone settings, under Call Settings, uncheck/disable: VoLTE. For WiFi to work, you must also disable anything else you have enabled on this screen (i.e. Microphone noise suppression, Speaker voice enhancement, etc).
5) You can leave STAMINA mode on (under Power management), however...... only enable the "Extended Standby" option and of course Activation should be at 100%/Always on. When Wi-Fi is on, you must also have whitelisted 2 specific apps in STAMINA under the "Apps active in standby" list: The text msg app you're using (i.e. Textra, etc) and I would also whitelist one under "All others" entitled "Phone/Messaging Storage". Again, this is only for when you have Wi-Fi on. Keep the other stuff disabled in here. With regards to STAMINA mode.......
First, put Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep to "Always" (Settings, Wi-Fi, Advanced). Also, make sure everything else on that page is unchecked/disabled. Turn off STAMINA mode. Go into Settings, Apps, All, Extended Standby Mode Controller, Clear Data AND Cache. Then go to your text app's (Textra, etc) "App info" page (on same Apps "All" screen) and clear ONLY the cache, then close out the app itself (3D button to the right of the virtual Home button, swipe the text app off the screen). Reset. When you come back, follow what I said above, including turning STAMINA mode back on ("queue background data" will be enabled. Leave it that way!) Make sure that when you turn STAMINA mode on that the pop-up shows up describing it. If it doesn't at any point, then repeat this paragraph's instructions. What I just said here MAY resolve any lingering MMS issues, and also resolve any issues regarding with STAMINA mode not kicking in too. When I did this my phone spit out a few "missed" incoming MMS messages out all at once. And the battery seems to be last longer too.
It seems that MMS messages will def show up if Wi-Fi is on, but it will take longer to show up if screen is off. Maybe 3-5 minutes longer.
If you have any questions, let me know. I'm still testing this out so I may make more changes. We'll see.
P.S. This ALSO fixed my Smart Call Handling issue where it wasn't working, but now is.
P.P.S. For whatever reason, if you're getting an MMS message from someone with an iPhone, and they have "iMessage" turned on, the Z3 will NOT receive the message. So you have to ask people who have iPhones and are sending you MMS messages to kindly turn it off, and then all should be fine.

I disabled the "Queue background data" in power management...... and It looks like I'm able to download MMS.
Have to further test.

I think I tried that and it wasn't enough for me, but test it anyway.
In addition to what I said, I did a factory reset using Sony's PC Companion software, and now my phone is FINALLY working flawlessly. Not saying all Z3 phones having these issues have to do this, but I did and it worked. The following is a result of HOURS of research and trial & error:
All,
I use Textra since the Z3's stock messenger app clearly CANNOT handle MMS properly. This is what worked for me....................
Before setting up your Z3 to be able to handle MMS messages correctly, as well as enabling Smart Call Handling to ACTUALLY work, you must do the following which will do both a factory reset AND re-update your phone. My software must’ve been corrupted at some point because after doing this, my phone worked much better. The battery life had gotten really bad but now it’s back to incredible again. My phone works 100% for the first time ever (just no VoLTE ((for now at least)), but who cares, I don't get it in my area yet anyway!!
** Sony PC Companion Instructions:
We have an extended guide that should help you fix the issue on your phone, please follow the instructions carefully:
Visit this link:
http://www.sonymobile.com/us/tools/pc-companion/
Click on Download PC Companion
Run the software and install it
Turn the phone off and disconnect it from the computer
1. No matter what the program says do not connect the phone until you complete step 9
2. In the welcome screen you will see the different modules available for you including the "Support Zone" option. Click on "Start" below it.
3. On the next page Click on "Start" under "Phone Software Update"
At this point if you get an error stating that "Unable to install update components" or "Server is busy" , then please proceed to step 12
4. The program will say that there is no phone connected. Click on the option below that reads: "Repair my phone" the program will issue you a warning about the content that you will lose during the update
5. Choose the option to continue.
6. The program will issue a final message warning you of possible data lost during the update. Click on the checkmark and then on "Next".
7. After that, the program will download the necessary information (5 to 6 minutes) and it will present you with a list of phones.
8. Choose your phones model from the list then click on "Next" then you will see a new section telling you how to connect the phone. (don't connect it yet) (YOU CAN FIND YOUR PHONE’S MODEL # BY DOING THIS: SETTINGS-->ABOUT PHONE-->MODEL NUMBER)
At this point the phone must be off and disconnected from the PC.
9. Connect the cable to the PC not to the phone, then while pressing and holding the indicated button (in the steps on screen an specific button will be shown for you to press on the phone) connect the cable to the phone and keep holding the indicated button until the program says "the update of your phone has started..." (in some cases a message of "Installing drivers" will appear before the message of "the update of your phone has started..." is shown.)
10. If you failed to follow the steps correctly the phone will turn on and it will request that you "Proceed with the following steps, slide down the notification bar", If this happens disconnect the phone from the cable, turn it off and repeat from step 9).
11. If the phone is connected properly, PC Companion will proceed with the update ( It will tell you to let go of the back key) then wait for the update to finish and follow instructions on screen to disconnect the unit.
Dear Customer,
12. If "Unable to install update components"
1. Close PC Companion
2. Install Java from: http://www.java.com
3. Start PC Companion again and try to do the software unlock process once more.
Note: If you wish only to update the unit wait for the program to open and then select the quick link on the upper left corner that says "Update Phone/Tablet" and follow the instructions to perform the update. (the PC may request for the phone to be placed in Mass Storage mode. Do this by going into Settings>Xperia>Connectivity>USB connection mode)
Now that you have completed the PC Companion part, follow these instructions carefully to restore MMS and Smart Call Handling:
1) Add a NEW APN (Settings-->More-->Mobile networks-->Access Point Names ((APN))-->push the + sign button) using these settings (and make sure to select it after creating and saving it):
Name: T-Mobile Data 2
APN: fast.t-mobile.com
Proxy: not set
Port: not set
Username: not set
Password: not set
Server: not set
MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
MMS proxy: not set
MMS port: not set
MMS protocol: WAP 2.0 <---(DOES NOT APPLY TO THE Z3, BUT OTHER PHONE USERS MAY WANNA TRY IT)
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
Auth Type: not set
APN type: default,mms,supl,admin,hipri
APN proto: IPv4/IPv6
APN roaming proto: IPv4/IPv6
APN enable/disable: enable
Bearer: unspecified
2) ENABLE Stock Messenger app, making sure in "App info" screen (in Settings) that the "Notifications" box is unchecked. (Not sure if unchecking it matters, but I'd do it anyway to avoid double notification of incoming texts.) Also, under Stock Messenger's settings, make sure ALL boxes are unchecked as well.
3) In Textra (download this great text SMS/MMS messaging app if you haven't already from Google Play Store), make sure it's your default app, under Settings, "Use MMS for Group Chats" should be checked, MMS Settings: No Limit, and check the T-Mobile Wifi Calling Fix box too.
4) In Phone settings, under Call Settings, uncheck/disable: VoLTE. (VERY IMPORTANT!) (Note: Maybe after Lollipop is deployed you can try enabling it and see if MMS and Smart Call Handling work again, but there’s no guarantee of that.)
5) You can leave STAMINA mode on (under Settings-->Power management), however...... only enable the "Extended Standby" option and of course Activation should be at 100%/Always on. Also make sure “Queue background data” is enabled too. You must also have whitelisted 2 specific apps in STAMINA under the "Apps active in standby" list: The text msg app you're using (i.e. Textra, etc…. the stock app will NOT be listed though) and I would also whitelist one under "All others" entitled "Phone/Messaging Storage". Keep the other stuff disabled in here. With regards to STAMINA mode:
5.1) OPTIONAL: IF AT ANY POINT STAMINA MODE IS NOT WORKING (i.e., WITH IT ON AT 100% POWER, IT SAYS ON STAMINA MODE SETTINGS PAGE THAT YOU HAVE ANYTHING LESS THAN 5 DAYS AND 3-4 HOURS FOR ESTIMATED BATTERY TIME), THEN FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS: Turn off STAMINA mode. Go into Settings, Apps, All, Extended Standby Mode Controller, Clear Data AND Cache. Then go to your text app's (Textra, stock, etc….do it for all texting apps you have) "App info" page (on same Apps "All" screen) and clear ONLY the cache, then close out the app itself (3D button to the right of the virtual Home button, swipe the text app(s) off the screen). Reset. When you come back, follow what I said above, including turning STAMINA mode back on. Then do as instructed in “5)” above.
6) Put “Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep” to "Only when plugged in" (Settings--> Wi-Fi--> Advanced). Also, make sure everything else on that page is unchecked/disabled.
7) OPTIONAL: IF HAVING ISSUES RECEIVING TEXTS FROM IPHONE USERS WHO HAVE iMessage ENABLED ON THEIR IPHONE, THEN FOLLOW THIS: And lastly, there’s the “iMessage” issue ppl like myself are/were having (also those with LG G2 I’ve heard have this issue too) where when someone with an iPhone sends you an MMS pic text msg while their iMessage option is on, you don’t get the text…….. try this (a T-Mobile store rep told me this and it worked!): send YOURSELF an MMS photo text msg but include at least one other phone # as well too. If you’re using Textra or anything besides just the stock text app, then do this for EACH app. If that is the case, then do it via stock app first then Textra (easier this way). If you receive the pic successfully, then ask anyone you know with an iPhone to send you an MMS message (preferably having a 3rd phone # in on it too, but not sure if you need to) with iMessage ON. If you receive it, then it worked. If not, try this again.
What I just said here MAY resolve any lingering MMS issues, and also resolve any issues regarding STAMINA mode not kicking in too.
It seems that MMS messages will def show up if Wi-Fi is on, but it will take longer to show up if screen is off. Maybe 3-5 minutes longer.
If you have any questions, let me know.
P.S. This ALSO fixed my Smart Call Handling issue where it wasn't working, but now is.
RockStar2005
Very excited to hear about your fix. Many thanks for sharing! Before I go ahead and follow your instructions, I was just curious whether this fix has "stuck." I recall a few others, when attempting other fixes, experience a reversion back to the same MMS issues.
Thanks!

Issues with Google Messenger and MMS while WiFi is connected

So I know a lot of people have had this issue, but I feel like my situation has no solution since all of the help threads are about Verizon and AT&T. I'm on Rogers in Canada.
My Nexus 5 is running 5.1.1 LMY48I. I am rooted, and have Xposed installed (Doubt that makes any difference since my Dad's Moto X has the same issue I do, and he's totally stock).
If the title seems unclear, here is a quick breakdown of the problem.
If WiFi is on and Data is on, MMS doesn't work.
If WiFi is off, and Data is on, MMS works.
My APN settings are as follows:
Name: Rogers LTE
Code:
APN: ltemobile.apn
Proxy: Not set
Port: Not set
Username: Not set

Those are the default settings as well.
How would one fix this? Maybe an Xposed module could be made to work around this? Like it could intercept an MMS event, or something, and temporarily disable WiFi, and then re-enable it once the MMS has gone through.
Are you using Pushbullet?

Yes. But my Dad isn't. My settings for push bullet are to only sync while on WiFi, since I don't want my messages going to my laptop while I'm not home.

I was asking because I had the same problem. I read a few posts about disabling the SMS permissions for PushBullet (and possibly other apps that don't need it). I did that and it fixed the problem for me.

I can try that. But I don't think it right help, since my Dad had the same problem, without push bullet. I'll give it a go (if possible. I'm running 6.0 and I'm unsure of way to disable certain permissions). I'm likely going back to 5.1 just because of all the crashes I've been getting. Then I studio get Xposed back.
Edit: it didn't fix it for me. There's a few GApps that have it on too. I also have Android wear. I could try a different messenger and see if that fixes it.

Got to Settings > Apps > Click the gear > App Permissions > SMS > Then disable it for Push Bullet or anything you don't want to be able to read your texts.
Make sure you restart and delete any stuck MMS messages too.

I found it already, but it didn't change anything. I edited my previous post.
Edit: so I tried with Textra under normal settings, and it worked fine. So I assume it's a Google Messenger problem.
It could be. I am not using Google Messenger...I'm using Hangout, but the problem was the same. Clearly there are many people that are having similar problems. Google or whoever needs to get a fix out.

Help! SMS & MMS Stopped Working!

My Problem(s)::crying:
SMS messages give an immediate error that they could not be sent. MMS messages say sending for many minutes before finally giving the same error.
Did it ever work?
Yes. I had sent and received SMS messages after flashing. Cannot confirm MMS, becuase I had not used it since flashing my ROM.
What precipitated / brought the problem to the fore?
I was trying to get Sprint voicemail working on my recently flashed phone ([ROM][OFFICIAL][KitKat 4.4.4][moto_msm8960_jbbl] PAC-ROM 4.4.4.RC-2). I tried several apk's for Sprint's Visual Voice. I could not get 5.x or 6.x to work. After following a few dead end threads with those, I installed Google Voice and was trying to use it for my Sprint voicemail. With each of these I uninstalled and rebooted before going on the next try.
I see threads about Google Hangouts causing problems with Sprint SMS /MMS. It is installed, but I am unfamiliar with the App because I have never used it. I think it is only there because Google Voice needs it.
I have used Google Voice on my laptop to call Red Pocket Mobile when I need to troubleshoot my phone. So, before I installed it on my phone I already had it set up in my google account. Not sure how/why that matters, but there is the possibiltiy that some configuration setting in my account is wrong for integrating with my XT897.
Basic Troubleshooting Info:
I can do any of these without a problem on wi-fi or LTE: Google Play Store, Chrome, Firefox, etc. I am also able to make and receive voice calls.
In PAC-ROM:
Settings - Wireless Networks - More... -
Default SMS app is set to Messaging
Voice+:
Setting this to Disabled and rebooting does not fix
Setting this to my Google Voice gmail account does not fix

No, my phone company is Red Pocket Mobile. They are a Sprint MVNO.
Yesterday evening I was out for work. I received an SMS message on my phone. I noticed that my phone was showing 4 bars of signal. I only usually see 1 or 2 at my house. I thought that might be the problem. Unfortunately, I tried sending and got the same errors for SMS and MMS even with 4 bars of signal.
This morning, I installed Network Cell Info Mini in my phone just now using LTE. It shows I have +-100 dBm of signal. Trying to send MMS over the same network still produces the same error.
I also found this thread of similar problems in Sprint's forums.
I would recommend restoring stock, make sure EVERYTHING works that you need to work before flashing any aftermarket ROM.
If it all works on the stock ROM, then you know you have a software configuration issue / limitation.

Sorry it took so long to post a follow-up on this. I finally had time to meticulously do this.
This is what I did that worked:
1. flashed my rooted Jelly Bean stock ROM back on with TWRP
2. after i booted up i updated the PRL then successfully sent and received a txt
3. flashed back my pac-rom
4. after rebooting, successfully sent and received a txt :victory:
