I would like to ask what are the negative effects of having a broken recovery, I flashed my stock recovery with Generic RK30 CWM and now it is not working, i also tried flasing back my recovery.img but it does not work, it flashes but still the recovery is not accessible thru adb reboot recovery or button combination.
thank you :good:
What is your phones name?
On most phones , recovery lets you make a factory reset, but it is essential if your device can't boot.

Hello everyone,
I recently have been doing some beta testing for ROMS and one of them soft bricked my phone and I could not get access to CWM anymore (I have this issue where from powered down state I can never get directly to CWM) so I went into odin and flash the stock rooted ROM. It said it went well but I just get to the bootanimation and it just loops. I could just flash the recovery via ADB except the stock verizon rooted ROM comes with ADB debugging off by default so that is not an option. Currently I am flashing the ROM again via odin to see if maybe that will fix it.
I have a couple nandroid backups and I was just wodnering if there was a way that I could flash CWM via odin and just boot into it and restore the backups instead of having to flash the whole ROM.
Also is anyone else having problems booting into recovery from power-off?
Thanks,
Ljbaumer
First to get to recovery its
Vol up+home+power
Vol down takes you to downloader mode
And there is a odin version of cwm in the development section

Also im not sure why you want to flash recovery thru odin when it trips the flash counter...just use ez recovery and eliminate that issue.
Try pulling the battery to get out of the boot screen, hold volume up/home/power to get into stock recovery, then wipe data/cache. Then you should be able to boot up the phone and flash recovery via the ez recovery app.

Thanks, I completely forgot that I might need to wipe the data and cache after flashing from ODIN. Anyways, I did that and went into EZ Recovery and flashed CWM 6.0.1.0 and I was able to restore my backup of CM10.
Thanks guys,

Hey guys, I installed CWM on my buddies HTC one S (ville) and I keep getting a weird problem with CWM. I have successfully flashed CM10 multiple times and have made only one back up. Every time his phone dies and he plugs it in and tries to power it on it boots straight to recovery and after you press reboot phone it boots right back to recovery again and again... The only way it fixes itself is when you restore the back up and then it sets him back to that date. I'm wondering if this is a problem with CWM or something else... I'm new to HTC devices because I have always been on the Galaxy line from Samsung so some of this is a little new to me...
Thanks in advance!!
This is a known glitch with CWM. If you plug it in when its off and try to turn it on, it'll automatically Boot into CWM Recovery. I prefer TWRP personally, had too many problems with CWM and getting into the same exact pain-in-the-neck Bootloop as you're referring to.
As far as I am aware, there isn't a way to get out of the CWM Bootloop unless you just let the phone run out of Battery, get into the Bootloader (Which is somewhat of a challenge with the CWM Bootloop), and then flash a different Recovery from Fastboot. Correct me if i'm wrong on there not being any other way around this.
It's happened to me once, I flashed the.stock boot.img and it worked fine.after that. Not sure if its a fix but it got me outta of it.

Thanks guys I think I'll try TWRP but just to check does CM10 work with TWRP and if so how do I flash a new recovery?
yes cm10 worx with twrp. For flashing recovery, download d appropriate recovery.img for ur device. place this in the fastboot folder or the platform-tools folder.
now, boot into bootloader and enter fastboot then connect phone to PC , it should say fastboot USB .
Now open a command window and use this command---
fastboot flash recovery recoveryname.img.

Cyanogenmod 10 does indeed work with TWRP as far as I know. Along with mihirengg19's Reply above, there is also an Alternative way to flashing a new Recovery, and that is to use the HTC One S All-In-One Toolkit. Its the easiest/safest way, if you don't know what you're doing.
yes toolkit is great but manually is best...

hello, i have a huawei u8860 honor, I wanted to put a custom rom on my phone, i didn't really know what i was doing but i saw a tutorial that that said to put the phone into pink screen mode then replace the recovery.img with clockworkmod one. i made a backup of the default on just in case. the clockworkmod one wouldn't let the phone boot so i went back to put the original recovery.img file back onto the phone. but now my phone will not boot with the default stock recovery.img and boot.img. i cant get into recovery mode or anything other than "pink screen mode". all it does is flash the huawei logo for a few secconds then turns off. i have no idea what to do. did i do something wrong restoring the recovery.img backup? please could someone help me!
thanks in advance

HY,if you want to flash a custom rom you need a boot.img and the rom.CwM is a recovery tool that will help you flash roms .After you wiped the cache and the dalvik cache you can install the zip ROM and then reboot.IF you say that the phone will not boot into cwm recovery try push it on your phone again ,if you made the backup with it its the only way to restore your data.It happend to me once but i pushed cwm back into the phone and reboot into recovery by holding volume key and the power button and it worked.

And it also can be because you havent flashed the boot.img correctly.Never forget the the boot.img needs to be where the fastboot files are.YOU can do it by install the SDK from android and push it to platform-tools. GOOD LUCK
I'm stuck inn boot loop on my note 10.1 because of LCD density modder.
I have done a full factory reset without any result and i am unable to access any file on the device. But i can get into odin/download mode and recovery.

It sounds like you're going to have to re-flash stock or some other ROM. Use the toolkit (in another post in our forums) and flash TWRP recovery and then flash whatever ROM you want.
Also....do a backup in TWRP after everything is working. Most important thing you'll ever do as it will save you from having to do this kind of thing again.
I would flash a recovery Philz or TWRP boot to recovery format sdcard system data cache and preload .
Phone empty flash stock rom via Odin

If you can get into recovery mode - holding power+volume down , then pressing volume up to get into download mode , if so, flash a stock rom through odin & you will be good to go.
Did it :victory: Thank you soo much!!

Hi,
I'm trying to root and install CWM recovery on samsung i8558 Galaxy Win (China Mobile version).
I have at hand a set of stock firmware, a pre-rooted boot.img, and a cwm recovery image (6.0.3.7) built from cyanogenmod source only with recovery.fstab replaced with the one extracted from stock recovery.
Also I've tried ROM Manager, but it won't boot into recovery after claiming to have installed CWM.
I have successfully rooted the device using the prerooted boot.img.
The problem is that when I flash my custom cwm recovery onto the phone, it won't boot into recovery by normal means (holding home, vol+, power). I can only enter recovery via 'adb reboot recovery'. Unfortunately it leaves me stuck in recovery mode, 'reboot system now' fails, 'adb reboot' fails, the only way out I've found is flashing stock recovery.
I guess my cwm image is not properly configured to suit my device. I have tried the Recovery Builder at builder.clockworkmod.com, but its output is totally out of function - black screen without anything.
Any clues?
Which CWM did you use?
I'm using i8552 with many custom Rom and finally a swipe cwm. Which cwm did you use to flash?
Also if you are on JB 4.2.2 will you send me a snap shot of your settings page, notification bar and About page?
Let's help each other here...
