I have a new phone now. I have a friend in the Philippines that I would like to just give my LG G2x to.
Is it possible for him to use this phone in the philippines. ??
My question really is, since I use T-Mobile my LG G2x has a sim card slot. I have taken the card out and
tossed it (since I now use mini sim cards in my G4) He does not have a mobile plan. He only connects
via WiFi and data cards that you purchase.
Can he use this phone without a SIM card in it ? or would he have to sign a contract with a mobile carrier and get the sim card to use the phone ??
The phone is ROOTED and runs a custom ROM. THis is the phone:
.
LG G2x P999 • PARiNOiD ANDROiD....v8.0.0 [JB] 4.1.2 • CWM .5.0.2.0
.
Thank you for the information !!
Once phone is rooted ... no more contract.. he can use anywhere for anything

Ok but I thought the phone wont start without a SIM card installed. I thought it would stop during bootup and say no sim card detected. ? I dont have the phone here with me atm to check.
So you are saying i can just send it over there with no sim card and he can access web and messaging apps like "KiK" or "What-Apps" or "Skype" via a WiFi connection or he can purchase a pay as you go or pre paid card (again with no SIM) and it will work ?? ( I know SMS wont work without a data plan )
Yes my phone is 100% rooted.
LG G2x P999 • ROOTED • ROM=PARiNOiD ANDROiD....v8.0.0 [JB] 4.1.2 • CWM 5.0.2.0
Thanks again !!
..sorry double post....
It wouldn't work as a phone but yes it would work like normal except for making calls and texts and 4g/3g data. Wifi would work. It'd be a little tablet. Surely they have mobile carriers in the Philippines that this phone would run on if it was unlocked...but I don't know about all that.

Anyone else experience issues with swapping their SIM from their old phone into the G2X? I have reseated mine from my N1 into the phone 3 times, and each time I boot it says I have no SIM card. Pulling my hair out!
I went from an N1 to the g2x and i had the same problem so here is the deal...
the g2x is a 4g phone and it required a new sim card version so i had to trade in the sim card that i have had since my i got my razr in 2005...
so disclaimer to anyone who buys the phone outright, you have to have an updated sim card... just go into tmobile and they will give you one...
mines wont check for sim card at all it keep saying no service even without a sim card it usually say no sim but it just say no service can someone help plz plz plz
Fyi make sure it is a corporate store. Otherwise it could cost ya $20. Customer care might even be able to mail you one...not sure. If your near Chicago I would just give you one of my extras.

I reused the sim from my N1 and have had no issues but it was probably a newer version sim since I just got it beginning of last year.
If you have an old T-Mobile phone lying around, try inserting your SIM into that, and using it, then re-insert it into your G2X.
Alright I opened it up and it looked like the antenna cable was a bit frayed near the tip, I attached a few pics. It was connected though so not sure :/

I have the same issue.
Mint condition G2X does not detect my sim card reads "error while trying to connect to network"
I am running CM 7.2 I have wiped everything and reflashed still no luck.
Add one more to the pile...
I also recently began having this problem, but my device previously worked fine.
I have tried Restoring to Factory V21Y with Mar 11 Baseband
Flasing a GB Based ROM & Stock Kernel
Flashing CM9
Flashing CM10
Entering *#*#INFO#*#* Phone Info and modifying frequency band (No Go).
At one point I was able to read the Phone # from the SIM card, but couldn't get a lock on Netowkr. I can visually detect T-Mobile and ATT in Mobile Networks.
I have tried this with 4G Enabled SIM Cards and older T-Mobile SIM Cards.
I have tried Simple Mobile, Straight Talk, & ATT SIM Cards.
I have tried using None APN's, the TMo/Simple Default APN's, and Modified APN's for Straight Talk & Family Talk.
No avail.
Any ideas?
I had the same problem. A new SIM card fixed it.

I gave my friend my old G2x because she was switching from AT&T to TMobile. She went to the TMobile store and got a new SIM card and her old AT&T number transferred to it. It works on her old iPhone but when I insert the SIM card on the LG G2x , it keeps saying 'no SIM card inserted'....do i need to flash a certain baseband on it and/or setup a custom APN for it? I am on the stock ROM thats rooted...
Any help is much appreciateed
Sorry for not replying until now but I rarely visit here anymore. My G2X had a bad Sim card which a new Sim fixed. I just had to wait until the network could authorize with it.
Hi
just got my new cheap tablet running ICS and tried GOOD Installation - got the pin and so on but when I hit next the damned application keeps telling me my phone network is not activated so I cannot get any further. There is NO phone network to activate as my tablet is WIFI only - I have good WIFI connection..............
Can anyone help?
No one?
I think good need sim card to work. It keeps sim identification. Whenever I travel abroad and change my sim card, good stops working and it requires new pin to be generated.

Partially correct since it works on sprint and Verizon phones. They are cdma phones and don't have sim cards. The first time you enter your credentials you need to be connected to a provider network to work and once done it becomes like part of their service.

Thanks guys - any way to spoof the SIM card being present to an android tablet then even though this tablet has no telephone functionality?
It is now rooted and loaded with Ice Cream Sandwich - all I need now is my GOOD and I am good to go.... pun totally intended
I recently bought this phone from an user from facebook garage sale. The next day I used ace hack kit to root the phone to run custom roms. I was under the assumption that by using that hack kit program would sim unlock my phone allowing me to use any carrier ? Well I've tried my gr's sim card and all I saw was a x above the bars. She doesn't have a mobile data plan. I also tried my gf's sister sim card and it also doesnt work...my question...will I be able to use either T-Mobile or AT&T prepaid ? As long as I have the data package

Hi All
I have a Galaxy Tab 2 7" Model GT-P3100 I have not used it very much as I mostly use my S3. I bought it from Hong Kong, when it was tested in the shop in HK there was no issue with anything, all worked fine. I have since brought it back to England, mostly used it on wi-fi at home, then recently I decided to get a sim card to put in it to use it out and about.
When I put the sim card in, it comes up with a message box "SIM card added - Restart your device to access the mobile network - Restart" so I click restart and wait for the reload. But it doesn't recognise the sim card and still has "No SIM - Insert SIM card" within the notifications box as ongoing.
Now if I remove the sim card from the device while it is still on, it comes with a message box "SIM card removed - The mobile network will be unavailable until you restart with a valid SIM card inserted - Restart"
This sim card I am using has been tested in other phones and it works no problem, it is a pay monthly contract with Orange. I have also tried other SIM cards in this device and have the same response from every one.
So after doing some reading online and on this forum, I rooted the Tab and then used GalaxSim Unlock to unlock the phone, thinking it may be becasue I bought it in Hong Kong, the Tab is now unlocked but still shows the symptoms above.
Is there anything else I can do to get it to recognise the SIM or do I need to unroot it and send it back to Samsung?
Any help is gratefully received.

flash a custom rom ( stable is cm10.1.2) or a customised stock rom.I thinks it will fix your prob
It is not a ROM related problem.
Go to your network operator and have your old sim card replaced with the new one (with the same number if you want). Sometimes, an old sim card just don't work with newer service. G' luck..

Thanks to you both, the sim card is new, only 2 months old. I have just flashed CM10.1.2 and not only does it not recognise the sim card, I also can't do anything as the android keyboard crashes all the time.
I am going to try to reboot with the latest nightly to see if that helps.
I am now running the latest CM 10.2 from 21.8
The SIM is still not recognised and now my PC is not recognising the Tab either.
When I first plugged it in it came up with installing drivers for Google Galaxy Nexus?? Is this normal
Hi this is the same problem I have on mine,I am starting to think it is the card reader that is the problem ? which wont be a easy job to replace for me
Might be hardware problem
use triangle away to wipe binary on downloadmode then install a stock rom and contact service center to repair it under warranty (if your device have warranty)
Just flash a different modem

My American friend came to Finland with her T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S Blaze. She is not an expert in technical things but she mentioned that the data (messaging with different messaging apps) works with a Finnish SIM card but the phone calls won't work at all.
I took a look at her phone but didn't find anything strange. Any clue where this issue might come from? The phone is with a stock ROM so it's neither rooted nor flashed with a custom ROM.
Thanks in advance!
I imagine the phone needs to be carrier unlocked.

OK, haven't ever heard that a SIM locked phone would be able to handle data connections but not the phone calls
If that's the case (if that phone is carrier locked), would flashing a Cyanogenmod etc. help to unlock the phone?

Nope, flashing Cyanogenmod will only change the OS of the device. Unlocking it is a way different scenario. You would either have to call the original carrier for an unlock sim or buy a unlock code at a store that does it or online.

But is it really so that the SIM locked phone can handle data connections but not the phone calls?
Never heard of that kinda behaviour

Impossible. She of probably doesn't know what she's talking about (no offense) because if it was unlocked both data and calling should work. Never was there a partial unlock for one thing to work.

OK, if there's no such probability, then the SIM card of her phone must be "data only" type of SIM card.

Nope. That's not how a cell unlock works. It can't be unlocked to one certain type. If its unlocked BOTH data and calling should work.
