Hi
just got my new cheap tablet running ICS and tried GOOD Installation - got the pin and so on but when I hit next the damned application keeps telling me my phone network is not activated so I cannot get any further. There is NO phone network to activate as my tablet is WIFI only - I have good WIFI connection..............
Can anyone help?
No one?
I think good need sim card to work. It keeps sim identification. Whenever I travel abroad and change my sim card, good stops working and it requires new pin to be generated.

Partially correct since it works on sprint and Verizon phones. They are cdma phones and don't have sim cards. The first time you enter your credentials you need to be connected to a provider network to work and once done it becomes like part of their service.

Thanks guys - any way to spoof the SIM card being present to an android tablet then even though this tablet has no telephone functionality?
It is now rooted and loaded with Ice Cream Sandwich - all I need now is my GOOD and I am good to go.... pun totally intended

Following Verizon and this forum's guidance, I bought a foreign sim card upon arriving in Ireland for the purpose of getting a better data plan while here for the next month.
Upon inserting the SIM card, the phone tells me that the SIMcard is locked, and then loops into my boot animation endlessly. Only a battery pull will stop it. I never get a chance to unlock either my SIM port or enter the PIN for the new sim.
I thought Fission 2.4.3 was compatible with global services? I pulled the new SIM and put the verizon SIM back in, but since I don't want to purchase their data plan, I have voice only, no 3G data access.
I applied the Fission Sim hotfix, and also tried wiping the cache before booting with the new Sim, same result.
The verizon sim works fine here, I'd just rather have the data service. The only other possibility is that the new sim is bad, but the way it is looping into the boot screen (not the M screen) I am suspect of a conflict with Fission.
Last thing I want to do is fry/brick this phone trying to get it to work!
Any advice on how to get this rig runnin'?
BTW, seems Motorola does not sell any phones in Ireland. Not one to be found on any of the shops on Grafton St.
Not sure if Fission can handle pin lock - make sure the local sim you got has pin function disabled
Found this while trying to sort out the problem with my HTC Hero not recognising a Meteor sim, it seems Meteor have issues with certain smartphones, try a sim from Vodafone, O2 or Three, they all actively support smartphones and mobile broadband.
The problem with Meteor is they are part of Eircom who have the monopoly on land lines and are a bit of a technical dinosaur.
I wanted to test the unlock i did on my phone yesterday, so i put my brothers tmobile sim card in my phone, but all it did was show a sim card icon at the top of the status bar, and i didn't have signal. so i just figured the unlock didn't work.
Then when my brother put his sim card back in his phone, his wasn't working. apparently the sim was reformatted or something, and now he has to get a new sim. anyone heard of this before? also should i try another sim card, or will it just destroy that one too?

you forgot to select network operators in the wireless settings. in the wireless and network setting select mobile network then select network operators your phone will then scan available network operators and show you at&t or t-mobile after the scan. since you want t-mobile simply select it.

would that have made his sim card work again if my phone recognized the network? or was that just something weird that happened. I am new to the whole unlocking deal.
Thanks for the help, I am a little nervous to try it now, as i dont want to mess up his card again! :/
you should be fine. is your contact actually stored on your sim? ,maybe your brother's sim is empty but his contacts are stored in his phone. contacts stored in sim card are not easily get deleted than contacts stored in phone simply import you phone contacts to your sim to be safe.
my contacts are fine, but his phone actually would not work when he put his sim card back in his phone. it's just a regular dumbphone, but he didn't have signal or anything. Do you know what would cause that?
there must be an option somewhere in his phone to select the wireless network he has. what phone he is using? maybe a simple reboot on his phone with his sim card already in place would do.
yea maybe, i think he was going to go to tmobile this morning.. i guess i can't really call him to have him try though!
anyway i'll see if he will be brave enough to let me try again! thanks for the help!
I may understand sim cards wrong but from what I understand the sim does not announce to the carrier hey this is eric shins phone. It instead just broad casts a number the carrier sees the number and associates it with eric shins number. That's why you can buy a prepaid att phone call the company up, give them the sim number and they can connect that with your phone.
More then likely the sim was physically damaged

hmm.. that does make sense. I thought i had heard of other people just popping in other people's sim cards and it wasn't a problem, but i don't know.
Just kinda strange that it was working before , and after i tried it, his phone no longer worked. Maybe it was damaged when he took it out or put it in, but from my experience they are pretty sturdy pieces of plastic!
i'll have to see what he says when he gets it fixed.

hmnn... thats what I thought because the op post that somewhere in the process when putting back in the sim he see's it was reformatted. just like putting an sd card with my other phone that is not samsung it can't read/open files unless you format it that would surely delete the data in it. in his instance without a warning it automatically formatted the sim and deleted all the data in it which would make it useless. in his case the sim card before is associated with the network but somehow reformatted and the data in it was lost.
so he went to tmobile today and got a new sim card, and everything works again.
maybe it did get damaged in the process.. who knows now!
Wondering if anyone can help, im using team Eos European 3g rom zoom. now i tried 1 sim card and the 3g works perfectly but when i try my other sim, i enter the pin code on screen , it accepts it, then immediately says "Sim card removed, the mobile network will be unavailable until you restart...." .
The sim card definitely isnt broken because it works in my phone and 3g modem on my pc. I've tried restarting the xoom with Wifi off and no luck.
Thanks

how old is that "other" sim card? Reason I'm asking is that sim cards use different voltages and old cards tend to cause problems in modern devices.
Around here, providers usually swap sims for free if you say that you've got a problem with one, so I'd go for an exchange if your sim is older that maybe two years...

Its actually brand new, got it on the weekend. It works perfectly everywhere else. I think i'll go to the provider anyway today and see if i can try a sim swap.
This really is baffling me now. I went back to the providers store and tried a different one of their sim cards and it doesnt work either. I just cant understand why my xoom can read certain providers sim cards and not others? (Its definitely not network locked). Could it possibly be the type of sim card (as in a 32k vs 64k etc)?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Am about to buy a Note 10.1 in the next coming weeks and wanted to get an indication on which variant is getting the most XDA developer support. My preference is for the N8000 but it's not available directly in the UK or US so am concerned that no ROM development will take place for it.
Which variant do you think will become / is most popular with the developers?
So far it seems the n8000 has the most dev, as far as i know.
Not by a lot though, just buy whichever one suits your needs better

Yep, I think I'll go with the N8000. Just need to check the US networks to make sure the 3G/HSDPA will work properly there.
All the version with respect to hardware are the same except for the voice data services being absent in some versions and limited in some, I do not see how an 800 rom will not work will not work with other versions though I may be wrong as I am not an expert.
It will however you might find you have battery drain as an 8000 rom will be searching for asim card and network... You might also have an annoying notification popping up all the time telling you that no sim card is installed....
yes that will be the case as there is no way you can disable sim services and secondly its an annoying thing that when you remove a sim it will show that notification and there no way to stop it the funny thing is it wont happen until the first time you insert the sim card

That's interesting to know as my intention was to get the N8000 but not use a sim card in it initially until I got to the US early next year. So as soon as I put the sim card in it will start continually nagging that there is no card after the card has been removed. Also, I guess the battery drain would also occur in the N8000 without a sim card as the service cannot be stopped.
Would a possible work around be to put an old expired pay as you go sim into it?

Which is why you shouldn't purchase a non compatible phone, for use in another area?
This is why you shouldn't buy this phone from the scalpers. The chinese version does not support many of the worldwide bands that the "global" version of the phone does. My advice would be to try to sell it to someone who can use it and sign up on the OnePlus forums and wait for an invite for the CM version which supports the bands you need.
Get a new sim, sounds like an old sim that doesn't have the updated CellID info in it.
I had to change my 3 sim when I had my SGS4 as it wouldn't register because it was too old.

I had that happen to me on the interational one and felt quite dumb afterwards...
Make sure the SIM card tray is rotated DOWN so that the contacts on the sim card look to the back of the phone.
It will fit both ways (imho a very strange design choice) but with a tiny little space left when rotated the wrong way.
In other words: turn the phone on it's screen before inserting the sim card facing you.
I have _NO_ clue why the phone thinks it has a SIM card when obviously it cannot access it...
