so if I'm S-OFF and on hboot 1.14 does that mean I can just flash a new hboot to run the 3.4 kernel and once I upgrade my hboot can I still use the older kernels?
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app
Yes you need hboot 2.15 to run 3.4 kernel. There's a workaround posted in the forums for using older hboot with the new kernel, but it's not supported by CM.
And yes you can still run old kernel with new hboot.

I noticed in your signature " CM Stock" - can you tell me how to get this stock kernel ? I know how to flash this boot.img but need to know where I can get it ?
I am having 'stuck in Edge" issue - used to get 4g but not anymore.. would like to see if it's to do with the kernel that I have.
Well to get the kernel you need to open the ROM zip file and extract the boot.img file. Then use fastboot to fastboot flash boot boot.img

I know that the boot.img file is in the zip file, what I meant to ask was where do I get the stock ROM (so i can open it up and get the boot.img)
Also, what do I need to worry about before I apply this boot.img - do I need to make sure my hboot is compatible somehow?

Okay sweet thank you I was also wondering where I can get the 2.15 hboot to flash? Or do I have to relock everything and then use the ruu to upgrade to that?

You are not able to superCID though if you have 2.15 hboot, so keep that in mind.

Guys, I read in another thread that if your Hboot is bellow 1.13 you can flash roms without having to use a boot.img. I want to know if this is correct because mine is 1.09 and I've been wanting to flash a rom but that extra step is too much for my laziness. Haha
I'm not sure about using CWM recovery but I'm on 1.09 and use the twrp 2.2.1 and (except for Viper Rom) never have to flash boot.IMG.

I have CWM. Can I just flash TWRP over it or do I have to follow different steps?
Sent from my VLE_U using xda app-developers app
Sorry for the late reply...download goo manager from market. Then flash twrp from there. It's pretty easy

Hey there.
Just a quick rookie ish question. I notice that many roms require the fastboot flash of the boot.img. Would that be required if I flashed a custom kernel with the rom, beings how the kernel flashes a boot.img?
Thanks!
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app
It depends on your Hboot. Of you are lower then 1.13 you can flash the zip in recovery.

I want to flash a kernel for CM10 but it keeps either bootlooping or goes to "Android is upgrading...". I don't know what I am doing wrong but its always come to that. Am I doing something wrong? Can someone help me?
Is it cm 10 or cm 10.1? And which kernel is it?
Cm10 and its rohan's kernel.

just use [APP] Flash Image GUI - Flash Kernels and Recoveries from normal Android mode!
or flash the boot.img with fastboot then flash the zip in twrp for the modules, make sure to wipe cache and dalvik
Okay I will try that but I thought s-off made it so that you don't have to flash the boot.IMG. (I have s-off)

it does. are you flashing gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip for cm10? try fixing permissions in twrp.
I did flash gapps but I'll try fixing permissions.
[Edit]
Fixing the permissions didn't work.

I heard that the latest carbonrom requires the hboot update and I'm on 1.09 right now. Thanks

You need to run the 3.18 ruu. But before you do we need more info on your phone.
Are you s-on or off?
SuperCID?

Yes, s-off and supercid

If you're s-off, just plug in your phone and run the 3.18 ruu for your carrier.

It doesn't matter, you can still run the att RUU to get the 2.14 hboot.

You just need to run the ruu for the carrier your phone came from. It doesnt matter what carrier you're with now.

Why do you want to downgrade? Doesbt make much sense to go out of your way to do so.
You can however if you like but you will require s-off. Then you can run an older ruu Proust flash the 1.09 hboot manually if you like, though, as I said, there's really no point.

Sorry, I didn't copy the full link. I updated my previous post and here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=37227608
MIUI will work on 2.14 hboot.
If it's the sense based, no extra steps.
If it's the CM10 based, you would need to downgrade Touchscreen Firmware for which you would need S-OFF

I don't think you need to downgrade TS firmware for CM with the 3.4 kernel. I could be wrong.

True... It hasn't been updated in a while has it? I want thinking about that, because most of the big rooms Roms have updated to 3.4

Also, @OP, if you like MIUI, you might want to give Avatar ROM a look.

Thanks in advance.

i'm about to run the full ota. i'll pot my findings after.
*edit* No matter what I tried, it wouldn't let me update with the OTA.
I'm going to flash the firmware.zip instead. -_- Bah~
Update: I successfully flashed the entire firmware.zip and am now going to flash the ROM. I will attempt to update via the OTA by inserting my modified firmware.zip first.
If that doesn't work, I will just flash the ROM.zip. I'll update this post with whatever managed to work for me.
*edit*
I can confirm that touchscreen works in twrp using 2.15 hboot as I had to flash twrp to move the OTA zip file over to my sd card
*edit* modified firmware.zip within the OTA did not work. So I will just flash the rom. I do however have the firmware.zip flashed successfully so I expect things to run smoother. Only time will tell.
Thanks exad, I just updated the official way through ruumode and then flashed twrp and the boot.img(just to make sure it's a controlled experiment).
Everything still the same, working perfectly I will report if the signal drops or random reboot happens.
And now off to bed.

so far, according to my usage in the past few hours, there is no harm in keeping the kernel included in the firmware.zip

Hboot 2.15 at&t ?
I notice a few of you have AT&T phones, but I'm having great difficulty finding any info on the 2.15 HBOOT.
I am currently on my HTC ONE XL with HBOOT 2.14 using AT&T (United States obviously). Running Magio 4.0.0 and about to update to 4.0.1
So does this HBOOT 2.15 exist for this phone and if so can someone kindly link me to it??
Whether the phone is at&t or not doesn't matter, the at&t One X is the same phone as the HTC One XL, it's just branded differently. Look in the Android Development section of our forum, you'll find links plus instructions to the firmware in Turge's stock ROM thread in the OP.
