Fastboot Flash Boot.img - HTC One S

Hey there.
Just a quick rookie ish question. I notice that many roms require the fastboot flash of the boot.img. Would that be required if I flashed a custom kernel with the rom, beings how the kernel flashes a boot.img?
Thanks!

It depends on your Hboot. Of you are lower then 1.13 you can flash the zip in recovery.

Flashing ROMS on 1.09 Hboot

Guys, I read in another thread that if your Hboot is bellow 1.13 you can flash roms without having to use a boot.img. I want to know if this is correct because mine is 1.09 and I've been wanting to flash a rom but that extra step is too much for my laziness. Haha
I'm not sure about using CWM recovery but I'm on 1.09 and use the twrp 2.2.1 and (except for Viper Rom) never have to flash boot.IMG.

I have CWM. Can I just flash TWRP over it or do I have to follow different steps?

Sorry for the late reply...download goo manager from market. Then flash twrp from there. It's pretty easy

[Q] How to flash zarboz kernel

Can someone direct me how to flash Zarboz kernel using fastboot? I can't find the boot.img. Before you could flash his kernel in recovery, now you have to flash the boot.img.

If the zip is not working for you pretty much out of luck unless you want to make the boot.img from the zimage.

Use HTC dumlock and then flash the zip

Have you tried HTC dumlock?
Also, you can extract the zip and flash the zimage you want using flash img GUI. Its available in the play store and is also posted in a few forums in the dev section. Works like a charm. Just make sure you flash the appropriate modules afterwards.

I know about flash image gui and I didn't know what to flash
So I just extract it and find the zimage and flash it?

Thanks I forgot about htc dum lock

No problem, and yeah just extract and flash. But you need to install the modules as well for WiFi and everything else to work properly.

Where can you find the modules?

In the original zip, separate folders though

Every Rom I flashed stuck on flash screen.

I came from One S 4.0.4 T-Mobile.
I recently unlocked and flashed Pacman, Baked, but after successfully flashed, I only saw a flash screen. I left it for 10 mins but nothing happened. I tried another Recovery but the result is not better.

I flashed and it worked like a charm. But I tried to flash Pacman with Beastmode kernel and it won't boot again. I love the swipe2wake function.
Just reflash the boot after flashing the kernal, if your bootloaders higher then 1.13 the kernal may have some problems. You might want to take a look at the bootloader downgrade tut

Is it cm 10 or cm 10.1? And which kernel is it?

just use [APP] Flash Image GUI - Flash Kernels and Recoveries from normal Android mode!
or flash the boot.img with fastboot then flash the zip in twrp for the modules, make sure to wipe cache and dalvik
Okay I will try that but I thought s-off made it so that you don't have to flash the boot.IMG. (I have s-off)

it does. are you flashing gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip for cm10? try fixing permissions in twrp.
I did flash gapps but I'll try fixing permissions.
[Edit]
Fixing the permissions didn't work.

HTC One S Hboots and Kernels clarification please

so if I'm S-OFF and on hboot 1.14 does that mean I can just flash a new hboot to run the 3.4 kernel and once I upgrade my hboot can I still use the older kernels?
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app
Yes you need hboot 2.15 to run 3.4 kernel. There's a workaround posted in the forums for using older hboot with the new kernel, but it's not supported by CM.
And yes you can still run old kernel with new hboot.

I noticed in your signature " CM Stock" - can you tell me how to get this stock kernel ? I know how to flash this boot.img but need to know where I can get it ?
I am having 'stuck in Edge" issue - used to get 4g but not anymore.. would like to see if it's to do with the kernel that I have.
Well to get the kernel you need to open the ROM zip file and extract the boot.img file. Then use fastboot to fastboot flash boot boot.img

I know that the boot.img file is in the zip file, what I meant to ask was where do I get the stock ROM (so i can open it up and get the boot.img)
Also, what do I need to worry about before I apply this boot.img - do I need to make sure my hboot is compatible somehow?

hboot 2.15 should be used for all 3.4 kernel ROMs

Okay sweet thank you I was also wondering where I can get the 2.15 hboot to flash? Or do I have to relock everything and then use the ruu to upgrade to that?
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app
You are not able to superCID though if you have 2.15 hboot, so keep that in mind.
