[Q] very quiet voice only in calls - General Questions and Answers

Hello,
I have a strange problem with my rooted Haier W910 Smartphone (Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8260A CPU with ICS 4.0.4).
In all calls, the microphone is very low and everyone hear me very quiet.
But in all other apps, like voice recorder or google speech recognition, the mic works fine and perfect.
I hold the phone properly and also I don't touch the mic with my fingers in the call.
I can't edit something in the phone options and I don't know / can't find the right secret code for service or engineering mode
Who can help me, please?
Best regards and sorry for my terrible english
Andy

I also have this problem only when i calling out. Changing ROMs dosen't solve this strange problem. The engineer code is *#*#303#*#*

Me too
Anyone found a solution to this? I have exactly the same problem. Just done a static test when I call out using the Haier the voice levels are very quiet. But accepting a call in the voice levels are just fine.
Has to be software related??

It's seem software related but all the ROMs I checked (various 4.0.4 a d 4.1.2] don't solve the problem.
I just returned the phone to the seller.

It seems that the problem is very apparent when using handsfree, because the other party experiences huuge quality loss when the phone is switched to handsfree (switching to the loudspeaker and talking from say 50 cm away) I have however heared ppl tell me that my voice comes through worse then before anyway. Same for cellular and ip calls incl wifi

Xoom GSM Calls-RAZR Firmware Radio

Is it possible to flash the radio.img firmware of motorola Razr into the xoom? Both the Razr and the umts_everest xoom have the same radio chipset (The Qualcomm MDM6600, which SUPPORTS voice calls)
I really believe that the firmware motorola flashed into xoom disabled voice calls...
Any experts on the thread to express their opinions?
(Also galaxy tab did not support voice calls until someone on the xda forum created a modded firmware and flashed it. Now it can make GSM calls just fine, have a look: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=847273 )
Hmmm. Seems interesting to try it out... but I am not sure if this radio can even work on Xoom. Best people to answer are team eos themselves ...

Sounds awesome but, the only issue is, that Xooms were no intended to make/receive calls. Its wired with the MDM6600 modem which has no voice/multimedia capability. The only way would be to use a voice/data modem bridge/patch or addon to get voice. (With out using 3rd party apps like google voice or a Sip Account) The xoom can make/receive calls, just no voice transmission on the native side.
1way , 2 way mic ?

Yes xoom has the mic installed with no speaker simultanous intergration during calls. (Referring to making voice calls) you can dail out and receive calls, but you can't hear the caller and they can not hear you.

A 2 way mic, means that you can transmit and receive voice (Referring to making voice calls)

Well, that is precious info you are sharing man. I was thinking about a workaround then to use an extra piece of hardware than can act as a 2 way mic, like male to male jack connector with built in mic and speaker, one end connects to Xoom, the other end connects to let's say a capable device speaker with mic. What do you think? http://www.oriongadgets.com/Motorola-Xoom-3.5mm-Stereo-AUX-Cable-with-built-in-microphone.-pid-17915.html
Or, if there is an app that can spoof the gsm received/made call from / to Xoom and speaks it out and then the one way built in mic in Xoom can be used to listen to our voice and sends it back to app and so on to the other end. Google talk works with mic I think, so some kind of app that imitates how voice is received and sent over gem !!! Am I making sense?

i try videochat with skype over 3g... it work good.
so there is nothin wrong with hardware, the 'problem' is only software related, where the bit have to go

I can not understand how a one-way mic can make me unable to hear the other person on the line...
my phone works even with the mic disconnected!
That explanation is wrong and simply not enough for me!
Hi guys,
Finaly we are moving somewhere with these gsm calls!
Someone posted previoisly :
" iPhone 4 has the exact same radio like the motorola xoom 3g (The Qualcomm MDM6600)
Maybe the firmware motorola has flashed into the radio disabled voice call capabilities?
Samsung Galaxy tab does not support voice call but after installing a firmware mod (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=929479) it can now voice call over GSM "
And I believe too that developers can work around gsm calls somehow...they do better job than motorola itself with all the updates etc so fingers crossed!

Also, i am a new member and thus i cannot post on the "Android Development" section, the place where the devs are... Can someone post about this subject there?

Yes it makes a lot of sense. I thought of that my self, (using the wired headset with mic) True, other apps work such as google voice, groveIP and (SIP) calling and VOIP as well. [HOW TO] Sipdroid- Free VOIP using Google Voice
Yes I'll give it a try, and let you know.

lol, no you are not the only one looking for a solution. There a bunch of threads on this same issue in many forums.

why other people can hear strong buzz background sound when i make a call to them?

What's wrong with my I9003? When I make calls to others, the others told me sometimes there are strong buzz background sound, maybe current sound so that s/he cannot hear my voice. Is there some problems with gingerband? i m using I9003DDLE1 version for gingerband while using 4.1.2 slim 3.1 rom version. Or hardware problem like microphone problem?
How to solve it? THANKS.

Hi,
I have also getting the same problem..have you find the solution for that??

[Q] Speaker volume issues

Hi
I got a Lumia 1020 from HK recently. everything was working fine till I got the black update.
When the phone is on full volume like 10/10 for calls and 30/30 for general audio, the speaker volume just drops to almost 0. For eg if I am on a call when on the road I have the phone running on speaker, it starts off with full volume and while it is running it just drops to inaudible. If I turn the speaker off and then back on again the same issue continues. I have checked the phone volume using the buttons and it shows 10/10 regardless of wether the speaker is on or off likewise with audio from apps or just audio files or videos. Now I have tried all the resets I can think of nothing fixes it. Should I flash my phone from HK CV to AU CV? it is a RM875 model and running on black update.
The firmware version is 3051.40000.1345.1003 and the AU version is 3051.40000.1345.1006.
Anyway I can find what is the difference between these to versions?
will it be a problem if the model number is off a black or yellow phone instead of white if I have to end up flashing the phone?
Please help!

Hi Tanimi
I haven't got any equaliser app not that I am aware of. The list of audio video apps that I have are as follows
Electro Drum pads24
Full Movies hindi
Line
Mini recorder free
Music Downloader WP
Music +Videos
Nokia Mix Radio
Nokia Play to and
Viber
In the settings Equalizer presets are set to none which I guess if for headphones only and in the enhancement flip to silence is on.
Would any of these be the issue?
Cheers

Hi The equalizer option only highlights when I connect headphones to it. I can change it to classical but then when I remove the headphones it is not highlighted anymore, plus I rang my partners number and on loudspeaker the problem persists.
It just drops to nothing and it only returns if I turn the speaker off and on again and after a few seconds it is back to square one.
Frustrating!!

Master reset as in re flash the unit or like hard reset in the settings option of the phone. I have done the latter before that didn't help and if it is flashing please refer to my OP for some more queries

Hi Tanimi1
I will get in touch with the company as advised.
Can you please help me with the second part of the OP about the different FW versions? I know that the HK FW ending in 1003 is 1.55 GB and the AU FW ending in 1006 is 1.41 GB.
Cheers

This might help. While I was thinking about the flash I put the phone in test mode and did one test on the audio the volumes low normal and high varies in volume but when in 700Mhz there is crackle in the sound which drops at 1000MHz and then totally disappears.
Everything else in the test came back good. So I am certain now that it is the firmware.
Will keep you posted if you want me to.

I successfully flashed the phone and No Bricks in sight :victory: . However the issue with the speaker was not resolved.
While the speaker was in test mode before I did the flash I noticed a crackling sound in 700 MHz and then it reduced as the MHz reached the max. The test showed speaker was AOK but in real use even after the flash to AU var the problem existed. The volume would just drop. The other day I was using the navigator and the voice guidance did the same thing and before you know it the speaker failed to produce any sound.
I hooked it up into nokia suite for store and in test mode there was no sound at all from the speakers.
Looks like I have no choice but to send my phone away to Sydney hospital where he will be looked at and hopefull discharged in a weeks time.
FML. I have reflashed it to HK var and it will be on its way today.

Headset Questions

Hi
I hope i am in the right Part.
Since one week i have OPO and i am happy so far.
As you know there is no headset incl with the phone.
Now i bought a headset from House of Marley with pause, plus and minus buttons.
plus and minus doesnt work that i know as it is made for Apple stuff.
On the S4 i can answer an incoming call and end the call as well.
On my OPO i can only answer the call if i press the button to end the call i just mute the phone.
Now my question. What is controlling the Headset ? Is it the Rom itself or is it kernel related ?
Would be nice if somebody can give me some advice.
Thank you
The kernel is what controls the headset. I'm not really sure what else to answer as theres only one question.
Oops yes sorry.
Does it mean that it could be possible that a kernel other than the stock one can solve the end of call problem ?

Any updates if this is being fixed?

Could work. Just try out the custom kernels one by one and test.

[Completed] HTC Desire 816g plus. One-way audio transmission only. SMS two-way. Details below:

Greetings brothers,
I bought a brand new HTC Desire 816G Plus. If you make a call from this mobile or a call to this mobile, you can only hear the other end but your voice is not transmitted back to the other end of the conversation. This means the other person can't hear you at all but you can hear him clearly. I tried using headset but still same issue. So not a mic issue. The strange thing is that SMS works fine two-way without any issues. Could this be a hardware problem or a firmware problem?
Thank You
Anil

Hello, and welcome to XDA! It could be either, and as you've just bought it I would recommend getting in touch with HTC to report your issue. You could register and ask here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/desire-816/help. But with a new phone it is often best to get issues sorted directly...
Good luck!
