After putting an ambient temperature/humidity sensor in the Galaxy S4, Samsung has decided to put one into the Note 3 as well. I wonder how this app I developed functions on the Note 3 compared to the S4, especially with the faux leather cover and larger screen, etc:

I don't think so. People like to know the weather so why not get the weather exactly where the phone is? It's also useful for hiking, etc. The challenges are compensating for the internal heat produced by the phone.

loved this on my s4 great to see it is coming to my note 3 too!!!
Temp sensors on the phone itself Is cool because one, it’s more accurate than using a general location by setting it with a city and state and two you don’t have to leave your location / gps on as some people do with their weather apps.
Actually, I think the barometer is the best new sensor. The temperature one will be useless if you keep the phone in a pocket, but the barometer will be cool especially while flying as it would not be too difficult to turn it into a altimeter. (It would have to be manually calibrated to take cabin pressure into account, but that is usually a fixed ratio, like 6:1 or 8:1).
GN2 has a barometer already

Actually, you can, but not directly through the built-in sensors. However google for tellstick / Telldus Live, buy a couple of wireless switches and sensors and use the app Remotestick (plus a number of smart Tasker-rules) to control almost anything at home that can be controlled by wall outlets...
My home is almost completely remote controlled by my phone

I just loved your app on my s4, really one of my favs. So thank you!
Of course I put it on my new N3, and it's working perfectly. However they must have a different calibration, as the humidity can be out by up to 8% across devices. The temp is fine, or i should say within tolerable limits of measurement difference.
Does this app need root?
Another question I have:
Did someone measure how accurate the readings given by the N3 (or S4) are, compared to a real Thermometer or Hygrometer?
Thanks.

Hi Everyone,
I just bought a brand new galaxy note 10.1 in India and i had high expectations from this tablet.
One of the prime reasons i decided on this was the s-pen.
After a day of use i noticed that the s-pen is not recognizing my hand motions on the screen at 2 points.
Has anyone faced this kind of issue with 10.1 till now?
Looking forward to your replies.
Thanks
Yeah the same has started to happen on.mine. Only some aps though, like lecture notes.
Directly under the camera for about 1/4 of the width of the screen the pen does not get recognized.

Yes i also observed the same position.Just below the front camera.
I also observed that the particular area gets a little hot if I am using wifi. Probably because the
antenna might be below that area.So i am thinking if this could be bcoz of magnetic fiedelity.
Request other users to please check for erratic s-pen tracking around the same position.
Samsung needs to fix this if its a design flaw as the s-pen is the key selling point for this tablet.
Thanks
Hi
s4 some new smart feature in software and octa core processor in international version also has some smart cases & covers
to see notification maybe
or brief of some info
to work with S health & etc
http://reviews.cnet.com/2300-8900_7-10016135-5.html
Accessories showed up at the unpacked 2013
i don't really understand the smart cover, is it not just a normal cover with a slot cut out of it?
what's smart about it?
EDIT - just watched cnet explaining it. that is quite clever.
but surely the entire screen is switched on behind the cover??
also, in the videos the only way they are able to switch it to s view is by opening the case - doesn't that defeat the purpose?
not released yet but something to work with S-Health & etc
Thats a cool idea. When I first saw it I was like wtf?

The Samsung Galaxy S4 come with an AMOLED display which doesn't need additional backlight
that means that each pixels is emitting it's own light
and when the cover is on only the pixel that's displaying info is on
other pixels are told to be black so it's not using any power....
This means that it will not turn on the entire screen like LCDs and will have better black levels

right, but anyone who's used NoLED (can find it in the market) can tell you, its not simply about how much of the screen is used or not.. its the wakelock keeping the phone from entering a deep sleep that turns your 10 day standby into a 3 hour standby..
Samsung is clever tho, so I'm sure there's more to it than meets the eye. maybe its a solution to getting a notification and your pocket not bumping the screen keeping it on for an entire hour while you run...

I am not complaining about Samsung but Fitbit have the same products available now which work with ANY android, Ios or other phone why would I buy one that only works with one of Samsung phones?
GamePad seems awesome! It'll take a huge chunk out of potential nvidia project shield sales lol. Same or better processing power, more portable, can be used as a phone. Game pad is dead before its launch.

With all the hate/love thread out there about the S4, nobody came up with real alternative about what the S4 could or should have been. I would like to know what REALISTIC spec or features the S4 could have.It would be nice to hear about realistic inovation. Are there other set of CPUs or new wifi technology or some cool obscur apps that could have been integrated here. That's for 'Note' line. I don't think Samsung would degrade the "value proposition" of Note by including S-Pen in Galaxy S-series.
Also, it's a good business decision because it allows Samsung to have 2 distinct flagships in a year.

IMHO, the curved design of galaxy s4 is better than the sharp angular design of HTC one. It feels slightly uncomfortable in the hand thanks to the sharp edges. The plastic could be replaced with carbon fibre or less glossy plastic, though.

I asked this exact same question of a few mates of mine who were "Underwhelmed" with the stats the S4 presented....
I then asked them.... so with the CURRENT technology that is out.... what else would you have liked to have seen in this wonderful device.... and you know what they came up with??? sweet FA... because as it currently stands, the S4 has the most advanced technology out, bar a few minor differences between HTC One and Sony Xperia Z which have a few alternative features on theirs....
I think too many people have looked at the S4 then compared the LOOKS of it to the S3 and have gone.... nah, not interested.... but does the aesthetics of a phone really take away from its overall hardware on the inside? As many people have pointed out, smart people put CASES on their phones anyways.... so the looks of the phone really dont matter too much, as long as the screen is vibrant, 90% of people would probably struggle to tell what kind of phone you have anyways, with the cases attached to them all...
So to answer your question, the only thing i would have wanted to see on the S4 which it didnt have, is litterally nothing... i cant think of anything that any other device has, that the S4 should have, except maybe the waterproof function of the Sony Xperia Z... but i have had my original S2 for almost 2 years now, not a single issue or fault with it, where many of my friends have had issues with water etc, so this function wouldn't even be for me, rather to see them struggle less when it comes to damaging their phones lol

1) Is cumbersome to carry c-pen with you. Heck, I can't even remember to carry a pen with me

On a more serious note;

i personally prefer a battery that last for 4 - 5 days...
I miss just looking down and seeing info like on my previous smartwatches. I brought this up with another Dev to make a watchface that was always on, but had really skinny/small fonts on a black background for just critical info that leveraged the AMOLED tech, but it seemed this Dev had too many challenges getting even a full day out of the watchface. He didn't follow my full suggestion, though - so I wasn't surprised.

Going from a Pebble to a Gear 2, I thought losing the always on display of the pebble was a serious negative, but the Gear 2 makes up for it completely with the wrist movement detection. The display is on as soon as I want it. :good:

False. The Gear 2 motion detection is flaky and has a frustrating moment of lag that sometimes has me guessing whether it's going to show me the display or not. It is certainly NOT immediate and one of my main complaints when I came from Pebble. As it currently is, it's simply ok - but you do get used to it, I guess. Essentially we gave up a bit of usability for a prettier screen.

they ain't the same thing. led cover is always on as long as there are unattended notifications yet the edge screen is on only when the notification is triggered.
Plus, the edge screen is only readable from a limited angle and distance due to its size and position located on the device yet the led cover is more practical as long as it is faced up due to the icon and text size used on it for notifications.
anyways I would like to see such accessories for the most expensive samsung mobile phone ever released.

Considering the Edge is now the flagship of samsung considering the hw and the price any (subjectively) cool and compatible accessories should (preferably initially) released to the Edge, imo.
As for the "redundant notifications" statements; well then those who think in such way should never buy a smart watch neither coz their purpose is mainly replicating notifications to wrist.
I use the edge paired with a moto 360 and sony sbh52 and enjoy seeing the notifications everywhere.

I actually don't think the smart watch is redundant. You dont have to pull your phone out of your pocket everytime to see the time. They serve there purpose greatly and it is it's own separate entity that you actually dont have to have the phone for. Thats why I like it. I would like a smart watch actually but cant seem to cough up 300 for one. What does annoy me from time to time is all the notifications. I get the same ones on my tablet as my phone and they are both going off. Cant stand it. The led case to me is like wearing 2 smart watches with both of them doing the exact same thing side by side. One just may be displaying it using a different method. Like I said though to each his own. If you want an led cover then get one. If they ever make it.... Judging by the lack of support or accessories for this phone that is the only reason I say probably not.

Using double-negatives isn't helping your already-weak arguments for something that's incredibly low in demand. You're one of a very few people who want an LED cover, which is why it will likely never be produced. Your thinking is upside down if you believe the price of a device should dictate the extent of accessories available.

I agree stay on topic!! I often ask myself, Why do I need a 7" tab and a 5.6" phone? But heck, to each his own, needed or not. If there is a demand, then someone will make one. So keep asking, go to the manufactures website and ask there too. Get friends to ask also (Even if they don't have the phone) Who knows, they might send you a prototype free to test out and see what the reaction is.

There is no way that will work with our phones the way it's showing... Not have out some sort of custom ROM/software. Save your money, even if it's only a few bucks.
I dont see any chips in the pictures on the inside of case. I kno the s-view cases are auppose to have a chip to activate the s-view, i assume its the same with these so check it out before you buy. Whether it works or not, but why not contact the seller for further info. instead of jumped into conclusion.
You can see from the pictures that the front of the case is just a bunch of holes. Some images imply that there is some sort of LED display, but you can see the rear facing camera hole through the holes in the front of the case.
Honestly, even if they make a LED flip case for our phones I'm not sure I'd get one, unless the magnet is stronger than the one for the current flip case. I've watched too many reviews on it and the flap just falls open too easy. I want something that'll stay shut when the phone is held upside-down. Furthermore, I'd like one that could hold 3 cards in it without it affecting how far the flap closes. Just my magical Christmasland wish though, probably won't happen.
