Night Shoot - Different Between Smart Stabilisation ON/OFF
Smart Stabilisation - OFF
Smart Stabilisation - ON
Smart Stabilisation - OFF
Smart Stabilisation - ON

Now I can understand one thing:
the smart stabilization used/introduced in Note 3 is Digital Image Stabilization (DIS) which comes nowhere near to OIS.
As I have posted this in another thread, the DIS works this way:
when the shutter speed drops up to a certain point, DIS raises the ISO level.
Higher the ISO Level= Higher the noise.
DIS then applies more noise reduction that it would have been done w/o DIS (Swtiched OFF).
When more noise reduction is done= lesser is the picture quality.
With your amazing post with helpful pictures you have taken specially the ones with smart stabilization OFF and ON what I have read is now proved.
Look at the last one with the mileage pic. Except for the mileage which now looks sharper and brighter everything surrounding it looks like noise reduction was applied heavliy, as a result they look worse. Same to say for the car picture.
It is a trade off b/w leaving the pic with darkened image with noises or brighten up a certain portion whilst having all the other elemenst heavily (or way too much) polished through noise reduction.
I cannot tell how to improve regarding that concern through fw upgrades.

Andrew can you post some comparison pics when Note 3 is in night mode? I'm wondering what the difference in quality is between auto mode and night mode in low light conditions. Thank you!

Very nice pictures! Much better than my Merge. Can't wait to get the Note 3 when it's released.

must see camera comparison

S4 camera better than lumia 920 and iPhone 5

The s4 has been ranked second after the untouchable Nokia 808. http://bgr.com/2013/05/24/galaxy-s4-camera-test-iphone-5/ funny enough the over hyped HTC one is no where to be found.

well it doesn't suprise me since it's 13mp vs 8mp it even does beat xperia Z's 13mp and htc even super duper ultra won't help it
I think DXO hasn't tested HTC One yet..but I seriously doubt it will score anything higher than 70.

Read your post twice. Still desperately trying to find a sense in it that would justify opening yet another camera thread. Camera still superb at good conditions. And really crap at lowlight and fast moving objects. Shutter speed is pathetic. ONEs video/sound recording also way better. And I tested both for weeks. But wait: that's been basically said on every second page here.

I hate the way reviewers just say Galaxy S4......WHICH VERSION????
They are both very very different!
I think Samsung could do better camera. In low light conditions it is crap, shutter speed is still very low and on 1080p videos you've got tearing smearing with picture zoomed in.
You know, low-light (especially with motion) is the weak-spot of the GS4 camera but we have plenty of examples of high shutter speed images in the various camera threads.
Captures of hose water, kids jumping and so on are "frozen" as long as it's medium light or above.

My low light experience with the S4 is superb. It's able to capture, in night mode, even pictures made in a dark room.
Anyway, use the flash if you in a dark place
I would agree, the s4 really has got itself a very good camera. Im an outgoing person and I take most of my photos in high or medium lights. Its very seldom that I would take pictures of something or someone in low lights. I would use a flash if i really want to capture them with as much detail as possible.
Heres my very first shot of my s4 after i got it out of the box. It was very cloudy thst day. I cropped the fountain area only.

All cameras are useless in low light unless you can control the shutter speed and keep the camera stable. Even high end Cannon or Nikon cameras need a good flash or a tripod to get good results in those kinds of conditions. If you have unwanted motion in the framing then it's game over. At the end of the day, if you can't get light through the lens and onto the sensor, you can't expect to get good pictures. There are dirty tricks that can are employed, such as a high ISO speed, merging images, or a large low res sensor, but at the end of the day you're still making sacrifices with the image.
This low light camera business has become a proper skit for selling smart phones.

Will they ever fix this issue? The camera is so unbearably slow. It's crazy. Coming from the HTC One, it's light years better.

What do you mean slow? Like.. HDR+? Well, it does make more photos, and selects the best one, which takes time. Turn HDR off.
The camera is super slow taking pictures. I came from a GS3 that was running CM10.2 and the camera was lightning fast taking pictures of my infant son. Now all the pictures I take a super blurry and the video is just a constant auto focus fest.

The Nexus 5 camera is not even close to Samsung GS3 and GS4's cameras. From drama shot to taking pictures really fast, the Samsung cameras are net superior.
Do you have HDR on?

I completely agree, neither is great but the N5 is much slower at snapping pictures than what I am use to. I would put it on par with my wife's iPhone 4.
On a side note this is why I have a Sony NEX-5R

I feel like the overall speed has increased, but the focus is terrible. Under slightly low light situations, the camera just doesn't feel like focusing properly. Also there are a lot of noise in the photos taken. Also auto-flash isn't working properly. There are situations where you would have expected flash to kick on but it doesn't; leading to horribly dark photos.

extremely low light condition this morning(without a flash).. are you sure that its just you not knowing how to use a camera properly? it a bit more than just point and shoot. btw, autofocus is overrated, learn to focus yourself.

I assure you, it's not user error. I'm taking pictures exactly like how I took them when I had a Nexus S, Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2.
When I take test pictures in my room when it's a bit dark, the camera focus just doesn't work and keeps returning RED focus circle.
My other problem is the auto flash. Trying to take pictures of a piece of paper with writing on it in the dark, the camera won't utilize flash; hence it doesn't focus because it just looks dim and the flash support light doesn't light up the text so camera doesn't know to focus on the text. Manually turning on flash makes it somewhat better.
When in optimal lighting situations, the camera works fine. Issues are with auto focus/flash in dim/dark situations
--------- ACTUALLY I think I found my issue.
It's my case. Spigen Slim Armor. The camera area protrudes and I guess it affects light sensors, thus messing with the focus. I took my case off and was able to have it work appropriately.

front facing camera not focusing?

so seems like my front facing camera won't focus. it only has a set focus for whatever is in the background and will NOT focus on a face. it's absolutely awful. whatever is in the foreground is blurry and there's no options in the new Samsung cameras to adjust exposure or anything which also makes making some videos on the ffc suck. anyone else having this issue? my note 4 ffc was much better than this one. ugh.
Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
I have the same problem with mine. I thought it was because of the beauty filter.
maybe it's just how this camera is. pardon my ugly mug, but here's a great example. notice it's focusing on the background. it honestly seems just like it's a problem where it's focusing on infinity rather than what's in foreground. maybe a software tweak can fix it? I really don't want to return the damn phone because of this...

I also noticed this when i compared my s6 with my s7.
The s6 when I'm closer to the camera is crisper than the s7 but when I hold my arm strait the s7 wins almost like it finds the sweet spot, the s6 behaves smilar but like i said more crisper up close.
Both cameras show the face detect cirkel.
Could be an issue with the new 3D beauty filter maybe? (And yes i have turn both down to zero)
all the filters are off and it still does it.. unless it's the software processing in the background, who knows. either way I hope they fix it!

sounds cool. the quality is WORSE in low light, and it's very oil painty looking, which i presume is the processing..however, they don't give you raw features for FFC..they don't even let you adjust exposure which pisses me off, bc i used my note 4 to record guitar videos for youtube, and the FFC looked fine on the note, but it's so overexposed on the s7 it sucks.
front facing cameras don't support auto focus, they have a Fixed-focus lens, & since the sensor is so small there is no bokeh(blur), so its focus distance is set to infinity, that's why it looks a bit blurred when you are too close to it

Thats because its has a very wide f/1.7 aperture, it will give some blur at very close distance, since its focus distance is set to infinity
the note was f1.9. not that big of a difference to create such a drastic difference in quality.
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S7 using Tapatalk
Tested two S7 and both was blurry and looked lika filter all over the picture.
Then i tested two S7 Edge and they was crisp sharp, better than my S6.
Both the S7 and the S7 edge had the same camera sensors. Forgot to check FW version but since it is the sames sensors in both the s7 and s7 edge it may be a FW diffense.
What is your FW version on the s7 edges front camera.
hmm very interesting! I wonder if it's a firmware issue then. why would the edge have a different firmware than the s7 though?
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S7 using Tapatalk
Don't know, but I'm having some issues with home button not responding so i will try to get and exhange tomorrow (only 4 days old so I'm within DOA time).
Anyway if i get a new unit i will se if it has them same issue.
there's a video of ffc. you can see how blurry the guitar is compared to the background.

They’re both pretty accurate honestly, neither captured it perfectly and it also carried slightly when I was looking at both pictures on each phone due to the screen having different characteristics. All that said, iPhone came out more accurately on this one.

Sadly, this is all I have right now. Wanted to test low light so just took a picture of my pixel boxes with the light off and just the computer screen glare...
Just got my new charging station setup up at work and had to snap a quick pic. Changed the aspect ration to 16x9 and threw one of the stock photo app filters to something that fits my tonal taste better but otherwise untouched. I'm really excited about my charging station though!
I love the quality but I'm disappointed they did away with numerical zoom level on the slider. I like to know how much I've zoomed (1.3, 2X etc)

Impressed with the low light performance so far.
Does it happen to anyone? When I tske close up pictures, it struggled to focus far more than my old pixel 2xl.
Impressed with the zoom quality too. This is zoomed in pretty far and still looks pretty crisp.
