N2 vs. N3 - Galaxy Note 3 General

There was some good conversation going in comparing the two in the N2 forum and I thought I'd repost some excerpts here.

Same here. To be honest I'm kinda disappointed. Nothing really new, innovative and exciting, nothing to stay out of the crowd.

These discussions always fascinate me. Nothing new? Here are some samples:
S Pen is "new" and some of its new capabilities aren't backwardly compatible so the N3 and 10.1 2014 are the only devices that will support those features. I love that you no longer have to care about what angle the pen's at when placing it back in the device.
A big part of the Galaxy Note story is the integrated S Pen active digitizer. Samsung redesigned the S Pen for the new Note and combined it with some new features.
http://www.anandtech.com/show/7274/samsungs-galaxy-note-3-snapdragon-800-in-a-slimmer-galaxy-note
From Samsung's DevCon agenda:
The N3 is the first smartphone with USB 3.0 which means it'll charge off a PC at .9A vs. .5A which is a pretty big deal. It'll also transfer files 40% faster.
The display in addition to having a higher PPI than the N2 is also said to be brighter than the S4 which was Samsung's brightest AMOLED to date. That means much better outdoor visibility.
The N3 supports 802.11ac which also helps future proof it as well as LTE 4 for when LTE-A starts rolling out.
Knox is enabled for consumer use to segregate files to prevent unauthorized and unintended viewing of certain content and is persistent so the device can be tracked even after a wipe (if wipe isn't disabled which is a user choice).
The camera runs circles around the N2 - 13 Mega-pixel BSI Sensor, Auto Focus camera with Smart Stabilization, LED Flash( High CRI), and Zero Shutter Lag. It also records 1080P video at 60FPS and can record 4K video at 30FPS.
Lossless audio support matters to people who use high-end gear. To those that don't use $50 headsets the ability to playback at well beyond CD quality either via a wired or BT Apt X connection is a significant feature.
Battery life is going to be incredible. It's bigger, the display's optimized to draw less power, and both S-800/Octa have been proven to be incredibly power efficient; even supporing more powerful GPUs and higher PPI displays. It's also using Qualcomm's Envelope Tracker which reduces wireless battery drain by up to 30%.
The Note contains a Qualcomm chip called an envelope tracker, which will dramatically reduce the amount of power needed to run its LTE radio. We’re going to see this technology in a lot more devices.

Samsung's finally moved away from shiny plastic and yet people still *****. Go buy a glass or metal phone that doesn't have a removable battery and/or expandable storage if you don't like Samsung's design language which is limited by accomodating removable back covers.
The N3 is thinner and lighter than the N2 yet has a bigger display and battery. Pretty impressive feat.
Finally, the capacitive buttons work with S Pen. That's a pretty big deal to those of us that use S Pen heavilly.
It has all the additional sensors the S4 has so you can use apps that take advantage of them like S Health which I'm looking forward to. Those extra sensors are needed to support Smart Scroll, Smart Pause, Air Gesture, and Air View; the latter can be used without S Pen as is required today. You can also use the N3 with gloves without S Pen.
It has IR which if none of you have used WatchOn on another Samsung device it's a great feature; especially with a Samsung Smart TV.
The flips covers (with and without a window) are actually leather and come in a variety of colors and designs including some from Moschino. You can take notes using S Pen with the windowed flip cover without unlocking the phone or opening the cover.
It has 32GB of internal storage. Let me say that again - it has 32GB of internal storage. When the N2 finally gets updated, depending on how much "S Stuff" is ported over, it's going to have a similar storage issue to the SGS4. Moving apps (that allow it) to SD doesn't solve anything when DRM protected apps require (large) files be stored on the internal SD.
It has 3GB of RAM. With all the new multitasking capabilities that's not a luxury it's a necessity. When not using multitasking the ability for the N3 to keep apps open in the background and just perform better all-around will be impressive. If Samsung ports some of the new multitasking features to the N2 good luck getting decent performance with a 1.6GHz year-old SoC and 2GB of RAM.
I'll let the numbers tell the performance story:
Benchmark PI
AnTuTu
Linpack
Egypt (Offscreen)
T-Rex (Offscreen)
Sunspider

I must have missed this. What exactly do you mean by this? Does it mean you can put the S Pen back into its holder, regardless of whether it's backwards or not? With the GN2, you can only put back the S Pen one way (e.g., the Samsung logo on the S Pen on top). If you twisted it even slightly prior to re-insertion, it would get stuck, forcing you to straighten it before putting it in.

A bunch of reviewers have talked about the "new S Pen" and have mentioned it in terms of h/w and capabilities. Here's one.
Samsung's just officially announced the Galaxy Note 3 at its big IFA event, and its not so surprisingly spent a lot of time talking about the phone's brand new S Pen. In addition to bringing with it slightly new design, the pen also enables a number of new features on the phone. The biggest of those is the new Air Command functionality, which is a small pop-up window that's brought up automatically by the S Pen and offers quick access to features like Action Memo (which can link memos to actions), a scrapbook, the S Finder search option, and the updated S Note, which can sync content with your PC and tablet through Evernote. Fans of the Note's flip covers will also be glad to know that they can now also use the S Pen with the cover closed. Check out our full Galaxy Note 3 preview for a closer look at the S Pen's new features and, of course, the phone itself.http://www.engadget.com/2013/09/04/samsung-details-new-s-pen-with-air-command-feature/
There was one review that talked about older S Pens being compatible with the N3/10.1 2014 but not being able to utilize all the newer features but I can't find it again (yet). So I'm assuming either the digitizer's changed or the h/w capabilities of the S Pen have changed. There's also a couple of sessions at Samsung's DevCon devoted to the "new S Pen" so that wouldn't be a discussion of existing Samsung developed apps as much as it would be to discuss the SDK and what new features were available to devs writing s/w to be used with S Pen.
As for putting it back in the device there's no longer a wrong way. Thankfully.
EDIT: The pen's square...

No surprise here, as both devices support LTE. It's almost silly to bother with this category, as nearly every high-end smartphone today will support speedy LTE networks. The most obvious exception is the Nexus 4, and its days are numbered.

The N3 supports LTE Cat 4 which is another name for LTE Advanced. In the U.S. all the major carriers have said they'll have some LTE-A rolled out in 2013. As has EE in the UK and there's a S-800 SGS4 (i9506) that's LTE-A capable that's had its EE firmware leaked. Depending on the market you're in and your carrier's commitment to LTE it's something to consider when shopping for a new phone that you plan on keeping for a while.
Here's an explanation of LTE-A...

Lets hope the mods won't lock this one as well since it includes a non-Note3 phone
Just kidding... I think the N2 General forum got a lot worse after the banned all those useful threads.
Anyways... I'm getting the N3 because of brighter screen and ac wifi support. Only wish they would have added fingerprint support. I love that on my Lenovo laptop.

Guys, the 24 bit/192 KHz HiFi Audio support- do both the variants (Exynos and slapdragon 800) of note 3 own this?

@BarryH_GEG, amazing! You made a good list. Definitely, it's not an incremental jump.
I actually had to search for High CRI. Didn't have any idea on that.
BTW, here's what Samsung mention about battery performance.

Yes that's unfortunate ..
I had at the GNote2 forum a poll/thread with almost 3000 views and 200 votes in only 3 days, totally on-topic and they arbitrarily closed it.
After I complained it got merged with that lousy off-topic thread with less views.
Comparing a current phone with its successor or predecessor is never off-topic.
Let's hope this Forum get better moderators....

Camera?
In regards to the camera, on paper the S4's camera was markedly improved over the S3. However, in day to day performance the S4 camera doesn't perform as well. Any concerns that the same thing may be seen with the N2 --> N3?

I've seen that comparison posted several places now and there is some information that doesn't match the widely reported specs. That chart says the GN3 has OIS but everywhere else it is listed as smart stabilization. What is that? It seems if it was optical stabilization they would say it outright.
The linked comparison also says it is a tad shorter but everywhere else it is listed as slightly taller though narrower, thinner and lighter.
All I know is I'm pretty set on the Note 3 but really want the 64GB version and am worried it won't be available for a while. Of course first Sprint needs to announce it...

Here's the N3's press release in its entirety. Things that are "big" make it in the press release. USB 3.0 didn't make it which I'd consider "big" so maybe there are a few surprises that'll come out in the detailed reviews. OIS isn't in there so it's probably safe to say the N3 doesn't have it. "Smart Stabilization" is digital (vs. optical) which means s/w is controlling it; just like digital vs. optical zoom. It can be helpful or harmful depending on how it's implemented. Time will tell.
The red emphasis is mine for those with ADD.
Design the Story of your Life with Samsung GALAXY Note 3
Enhanced S Pen features and larger screen optimized for multitasking provide a delightful mobile experience that brings passions to life
Berlin, Germany – September 4, 2013 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today introduced GALAXY Note 3, the latest update to the Note product line. The new Samsung GALAXY Note 3 adds delight to daily tasks and infuses innovative features that help consumers tell the story of their lives. Samsung GALAXY Note 3 delivers a larger and better screen for the best viewing experience and more powerful multitasking, and introduces significant S Pen improvements that make everyday life easier and faster.
GALAXY Note 3 makes your everyday life amazing
“We introduced the original GALAXY Note in 2011 and launched a whole new smart device category. The undeniable success of the GALAXY Note strengthened our conviction that consumers want higher quality features for smart devices and they want those new features to make their lives better,” said JK Shin, CEO and President of IT & Mobile Division at Samsung Electronics. “Samsung GALAXY Note 3 is a powerful, original approach that enables users to tell the stories of their lives through dynamic and seamless expressions of their passions across work, play and life experiences. With a simple click of the S Pen button, users can unlock opportunities for self-expression, features that transform everyday activities into extraordinary events and access to new experiences delivered to them on Note 3’s larger screen.”
Samsung GALAXY Note 3 comes with a wider (5.7inch) full HD Super AMOLED display, yet slimmer (8.3mm) and lighter (168g) hardware design, and more powerful and longer lasting (3,200mAh) battery. Also, equipped with a 13 megapixel rear camera with Smart Stabilization and high CRI LED flash, Samsung GALAXY Note 3 enables users to crisply capture every visual story in their lives, even in low light and active situations. Samsung GALAXY Note 3 offers the latest LTE technologies – CAT4 Carrier Aggregation and supports the greatest number of multiple frequencies. Incorporating the industry’s largest 3GB RAM, the GALAXY Note 3 also provides faster and more powerful performance.
Balancing GALAXY Note 3’s strength with artistic design
In addition to meaningful technological advancements, Samsung GALAXY Note 3 delivers a new premium look and feel. Expanding on the modern Samsung GALAXY design approach, Samsung GALAXY Note 3 adds a soft and textured-touch back cover and delicate stitching. It also features a serration pattern on the side of the device that evokes a connection to the timeless and enduring strengths of classic notebooks and planners. Samsung GALAXY Note 3 will be available in Jet Black, Classic White and Blush Pink. In order to encourage its customers to express their personality and taste, Samsung will also offer exchangeable back covers in dozens of additional colors at launch.
Click S Pen to make life easier, faster and more exciting
The new S Pen reinvents and modernizes the classic note-taking experience by providing the ability to accomplish everyday tasks with just one click. The advanced S Pen is designed to be fully functional as a communication driver between the phone and the user by creating essential input and control features. It plays an integral role in how users interface with the device, making all daily routines easier.
A simple click of the S Pen button while hovering over the screen introduces users to Air Command, a palette of five powerful features that truly make tasks easier and faster. With the Air Command feature, there is no need to toggle between screens, memorize commands or look up different menus. The Air Command feature provides access to the following key functions:
Action Memo allows users to handwrite a note, and automatically execute a function or convert that handwritten information into formatted content. Action Memo can instantly initiate a call, add to contacts, look up an address on a map, search the web, save a task to a to-do list, and more
Scrapbook enables users to organize or track down content and information from various sources including the web, YouTube and Gallery in one place so that users can easily look back at collected content all at once. When consumers save content for future use, Scrapbook also collects source material or URLs allowing them to easily refer back to the original source.
The Screen Write feature captures the full screen image of the current page on the device and allows users to write comments or additional information onto the captured image.
S Finder allows users to expansively search for content on their device regardless of the type. By putting in keywords or filters such as date, location, and content type, users can search related documents, events, communication threads, and even the Help page – all in one place. In addition, users can also search for hand-written content in their Notes and memo applications, as well as symbols and formulas.
Pen Window allows users to use the S Pen not only for drawing sketches or writing notes, but now also for opening a small application window for a true multitasking experience. Simply by drawing a window of any size, anywhere on the screen, users can easily and quickly open another application window such as YouTube, calculator or Browser without pausing current activity on the screen.
For more advanced note-taking, the new S Note presents a comprehensive solution that enables consumers to easily write, organize, edit and browse notes with a user-friendly interface and the Easy Chart feature. The new S Note can also be synced with Evernote or a Samsung account and be enabled for accessing and viewing from different devices. Furthermore, when a user wants only a certain part of an image to be taken from the web or Note 3 content, the advanced new Easy Clip feature allows them to roughly draw around the desired image and then it converts that content into a more precisely cropped image.
Larger Note screen delivers enriched viewing experience and enables you to do more
The Samsung GALAXY Note 3 delivers a larger screen and the increased size is matched with powerful improvements that allow users to fully utilize the additional screen space. The 5.7-inch Full HD Super AMOLED screen provides a stunning and defined video viewing experience for watching Full HD content, distinct clarity for reading and an elegant canvas for content creation.
My Magazine provides a personalized news, social media, entertainment and in-the-moment content experience. Developed through a partnership with Flipboard, it offers an integrated content consuming experience in a modern and dynamic magazine-style layout.
The GALAXY Note 3 enables enhanced multitasking capabilities that allow users to fully utilize the larger screen.
With the new Multi Window, users can toggle seamlessly between applications without closing the window or opening a new page, allowing for enhanced productivity and collaboration across programs. Consumers can also run one application in two windows at the same time. For instance, users can read the news in one browser while conducting a web search in another, or send an instant message through ChatON to a friend while reading a message from another friend.
In addition, using Drag and Drop mode within the new Multi Window, users can easily drag and drop content such as a text or image from one window to the other in an instant.
Pen Window from Air Command further enhances multitasking experience by allowing consumers to draw a window on the screen and launching popular applications while continuing current tasks on the GALAXY Note 3.
An improvement to Group Play, video sharing, is now available. Originally introduced along with the GALAXY S4, Group Play allows users to play the same music, to play games together, and to share documents. It now enables consumers to share videos and play content together with their friends simultaneously. Users can also connect up to five devices alongside each other to create a “big screen” viewing experience.
Samsung KNOX & Find My Mobile
The new GALAXY Note 3 comes with enhanced privacy and security protection provided by Samsung KNOX. Users can activate Samsung KNOX with ease which allows them to run and store security-sensitive applications and data inside a protected execution environment called “container.” The security inside the container is strengthened by system-level protection of Samsung KNOX against malware and phishing attacks as well as hacking attempts on physical devices when devices are stolen or lost. For instance, important personal pictures or video can be stored in the container with no worries for data leakage due to hacking. In addition, users may choose to store enterprise applications and data such as corporate email, contacts and calendar and allow the IT department to manage the container through EAS (Exchange ActiveSync Server). These features make the GALAXY Note 3 an ideal device for BYOD (Bring-Your-Own-Device to work)
Furthermore, the GALAXY Note 3 is equipped with an improved Find My Mobile feature that allows users to disable the phone when it is stolen or lost. With the enhanced user authentication, the technology prevents stolen mobile phones from being reset to factory settings, and allows users to remotely track or erase the data from their lost or stolen mobile phones.
GALAXY Gear, the smart companion for GALAXY Note 3
Simultaneously announced with Samsung GALAXY Note 3, GALAXY Gear is a new concept device that allows users to live life in the moment while staying connected. GALAXY Gear will notify users and give them quick previews of incoming texts, emails and more coming from GALAXY Note 3. It will provide a range of other valuable features and commands that extend the GALAXY Note 3 experience. When an incoming message requires more than a quick glance, users can simply pick up their Samsung GALAXY devices and the Smart Relay feature will instantly reveal the full content on the screen. Together, GALAXY Note 3 and GALAXY Gear extend Samsung’s efforts to provide users with the opportunity to design their lives, to express their passions and to make everyday life more easy and enjoyable.
Available in 32GB or 64GB internal storage along with an additional microSD card slot, the Samsung GALAXY Note 3 and GALAXY Gear are set to launch starting from September 25 in more than 140 countries around the world. The Samsung GALAXY Note 3 will also be available in the U.S. later this year on AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless and U.S. Cellular.
The GALAXY Note 3 will be on display at the Samsung booth # 20 at IFA 2013, September 6 through September 11, 2013. Full details, video content and product images are available at www.samsungmobilepress.com or m.samsungifa.com.

I think Smart stabilization is just a term Samsung uses. The only "Smart" I see on their page is Smart OIS.

I'm not sure what you consider announced, but their web page is up:
http://www.sprint.com/landings/samsung_galaxy_note3/index.html?ECID=vanity:galaxynote3

With all these great improvements, the Gnote3 is really a solid upgrade, unlike many GNote2 users would say..
However there is no way I would buy it right away.
Its price right know ( I am talking about Sim lock free, here in Holland) it's quite abusive, even for those with fat wallets.
And in the meantime the prices of the N2 already drop to the neighborhood of 400 euros.
I give a couple of months for N2 prices get even cheaper, under the 400€ ....
And then the new Note series users will have something to thing about:
Getting the amazing (at least on paper) Gnote3 but very expensive or..
Getting a much cheaper, but already proven excellent GNote2 , a still a high-end device and with the best battery performance among them all.....
.

since I had numerous times of warranty for Note 2 (Headphone plug, microSDXC issues problms with charging electronics and whatnot) (including one replace, where I had to get a show device since it was the last one in the city) I'll probably switch to Note 3, most probably I get my money back this time and Note 2 has been bought at a price of 499€ meaning that if I want a bit I dont need to put that much onto a Note 3...

This is bothering me as well. I have the good fortune of being near the German border, thus saving me about 100 euro on the phones, but it's expected to go for 900-1000 euro in the Netherlands. Outrageous.

900-1000€? not real! Samsungs stated price is 699€ which retailer ever does that should get penalties...

Right now, pre-order prices in Holland are around €750
It should settle to 690 euros after sales warm up and webshops like belsimpel (I usually buy my phones there), will get non-Dutch models for cheaper (not right now)..:

note 3 is available for pre-order on Amazon; price is as I thought 699€

Amazon doesn't work in Holland but here are the actual online prices over here:

why doesnt holland have amazon???
also the site you linked gets an error that looks a bit like a german-english mix of Page not found, aka 404...

Help me win against the Iphone 4!

Alright, so i was chosen to represent our beloved Samsung Captivate at my university tomorrow. We will be on OWL TV (Florida Atlantic University's TV station) in a head to head match between the Samsung Captivate and the Iphone 4 as the best phone. There will be an At&t Rep in the background so i need to know my facts!
I need to know EVERYTHING i can say that will completely obliterate any chance of the Iphone 4 winning.
I am going to be going to work in about 15 minutes, so i wont be able to check back on here until tonight, but i will DEFINITELY be using the information in this thread tomorrow at 5:30 when i go on.
If you can, please not only say the feature of the Captivate, but also why it is better than the Iphone 4.
Lastly, i don think that hacking features (such as rooting, sideloading, etc are a good thing to say in front of the At&t rep, and it might be too techy for the majority)
Thanks Everyone! Help me win!! >
Live wallpapers-- better because i like a little fluid motion
Backing from google- Apple is a bunch of blood sucking douchebags (no antenna problem)
Better dev community - apple really doesn't have one
mobile hotspot- enough said
widgets- no need to waste time opening an entire app
Not just one update per year - apple only gives about one major update and thats when new phone comes out
What you'll have to think of
1) Why android isn't mass produced? It is, and potentially a bad thing
2) iphone is "premium materials", slip beautiful screen/display
3)camera is much better on iphone. (1080p video)
Matter of preference
Bigger screen vs more clear screen
heres a few things that i think put the captivate over the iphone
- play flash in browser
- plays DIVX files
- super AMOLED screen is pretty nice
- has HDMI out using micro usb
- widgets
- swype keyboard
- microSD for extra storage
- true multitasking
- tethering (dunno if iphone has it or not)
^that pretty much hit most the major points
Don't like your keyboard, change it.
Don't like your browser, change it.
Can't do the above on an iphone
although is this a debate over android vs ios, or captivate vs iphone4
I think in the latter, iphone 4 wins in terms of specs. but captivate wins everything else
i would kind of agree that spec wise the iphone4 might be better.. but not ios over android
iPhone 4 is an example of form over function. It has 2 slides that are glass and an exterior antenna that is covered by your hand. Apple decided to put looks in before performance.
Then there is the lack of the customization. Every iPhone screen looks the same.
It can not be unlocked via the carrier (in North America).
Every function requires 3rd party software - it can't be used as a mass storage device - so you have to sync with iTunes (or equivalent) to get any data on the phone. If you don't sync, you can't backup what is on the phone.
Download the Beauty of Nature video by Samsung, its does a great job of showing how nice the screen is.
Android market, 75% apps are free, Iphone market, 75% of apps are paid.
The phone is an incognito smart phone, whereas everyone can tell your on an iphone (even the would be mugger).
Slide cover for micro-usb.
More than one button.
User replaceable battery.
Upgradeable memory for a fraction of the cost.
Itunes (need i say more)
Hardware vs. Software
About the only hardware features that are superior to iPhone are:
1. Screen size and color (Super AMOLED).
2. User replaceable battery.
3. SD card.
4. Less fear of damaging device (too much glass on the iphone 4).
5. Better antenna and less dropped calls.
The iPhone will beat Samsung in all other hardware specs.
Software is the Samsung/Android strength:
1. Easier app creation (number of android apps will eventually pass up iphone apps).
2. Multitasking actually works.
3. Better customization (live wallpaper; widgets).
4. More options than you can shake a stick at (might be viewed as a negative to some).

why? same ram. same cpu. both have agps, six-axis gyro, compass. the captivate even supports bluetooth 3 while the ip4 only does bt 2.1+edr. both do 720p video. yes the camera in ip4 does produce better video/pictures. but spec wise they're identical. both have gorilla glass. the galaxy is lighter, while the ip4 supports quad-band hsdpa (and quad band edge/2g) while captivate is tri-band hsdpa (and quad-band edge/2g). captivate has better video codec support.
what specs are you talking about?
Here's a list that might be helpful:
http://capfaq.com/w/IPhone_Comparison
You should also mention true multi-tasking. iOS applications must support multi-tasking for it to work on the iPhone, if your application (a lot of them don't) doesn't support multi-tasking then it won't work.

You're absolutely right. I was ignoring the obvious similarities and eluding to the actual differences like camera, construction quality, and screen resolution. Although, codec support is actually a software feature.
On the camera and screen resolution you have valid points, but not construction quality. I prefer the feel of the captivate (light phone with a smooth glass screen and great feeling battery cover. Thus that point about quality would be subjective.

I was speaking in terms of actual quality as in the materials used. The iphone feels more solid than the Cap, and costs more to build, but that doesn't mean it's more comfortable to use.
Captivate is awesome media playback device.
1. Good display ratio for wide screen films and 4" screen. (iPhone is square outdated.....)
2. Easy to load videos on, no need for iTune's , just plug drag and drop on any PC. (iPhone frustrating restrictions on iTunes and limited versatility)
3 .Can play back MKV natively ! and several misc. xvid, divx, avi. (same as above)
4. Can display external and internal subtitles(with appropriate player app from market eg. "mVideoplayer") (no alternate options of playback software on iphone)
5. Comes with integrated 16GB and ability to add another 32GB Micro SDHC (witch i personally have done) 48GB of Media entertainment.
These are main reasons why i got captivate instead of iPhone4.
Ok I have had both phones iphone 4 and currently captivate. Someone said they both have gorilla glass while that might be somewhat true, Iphone 4's glass isnt as good as samsung, I have seen plenty videos to prove it. I have had my captivate for about 2 months and I dont have a single not even tiny scratch on the screen, my iphone 4 which was less then a month old had them all over the screen tiny little scratches.
Overall I think samsungs gorilla glass is much stronger from what i seen then Iphone 4.
Captivate has a better GPU, a bigger screen, and more vibrant colors (though the iphone has a higher resolution screen). Both have similar CPU, battery life, and built-in storage capacity, though the captivate has an SD slot to expand the storage.
Software wise, the captivate is more customizable both out of the box and after hacks. Iphone may be able to jailbreak, but we have access to our actual source code, and can change the OS we use down to a fundamental level. The Captivate supports flash, and with Froyo, it supports 10.1 flash on webpages.
The crushing weakness is the Captivate's GPS. It is broken out of the box. It can be partially fixed with a few different fixes, but it should be completely fix with the Froyo update.
forget the micro usb to hdmi, that's not confirmed as far as I know, maybe a future feature.
look at the interface, apples one big button is easy but not intuitive if that makes sense. the closest thing they have to organization is folders, all apps go on the home screen and you have to sort through a number of icons on a number of screens. android runs widgets so no need to first find then open an app for common things. android has folders, an app drawer to keep icons our of the way. froyo will have a full blown task manager, task managers and switchers are available on android market for 2.1. android shows the six most recent apps running or not which is convenient if you inadvertently close an app that you would like to use again without looking for the icon again. better universal search, hardware key long press binding can be changed with free 3rd party software creating shortcuts to common tasks, you can exit apps with our without killing them, (home key vs back key) , swype, ability to change keyboard, faster scrolling of app drawer than I phones home screens in list view, 3rd party launchers allow scrolling of grid app drawer view.
the camera shoots in low light with night mode, no flash but led flashes are only good for extremely dark close shots, maybe no more than 10-15 feet and look unnatural. the night mode looks very natural in minimal light,
panoramic photos, high contrast amoled screen.
non proprietary data connector, dlna support, more media formats, expandable storage.
cheaper insurance, repairs available through att not just apple stores.
ok I'm running out of things for now. and I can't honestly say the captivate is better, more geek friendly maybe and definitely a better interface I'm my eyes. it comes down to user preference, hopefully you can open up some eyes to what's available and not just be wowed by the array of iphones and accessories in the att store. att doesn't even give this phone any press, they have blackberry and aria commercials, but the captivate commercials don't name the device our outline a single feature they just show a quick picture. the epic and fascinate get alot of press as potential Iphone competitors add well as the new motodroids and htc snapdragon phones.
the iphone is a fine piece of hardware but the interface and apple policies turn me away, hope that helps.

Introduction
After entering the tablet market with Windows 7 proves to be little success, FSL, the Shenzhen based Chinese tech company starts to covet after the fast-growing market for Android tablets. It has recently launched its first Gtab called “Fast”, which uses a 9.7 inch IPS display manufactured by LG, an RK3066 dual core 1.6GHZ processor, and 1GB of DDR3 ram.
The market has seen dozens of tablets with 9.7 inch IPS displays since the end of last year, almost all falling into the category of iPad copycats. Well, bigger plans have been made for “Fast”, as FSL engaged a Korean team of expert designers to tailor the contour of the Fast, making sure that it’ll be unique and fashionable.
Key Features
◇9.7” 16M-color IPS display of XGA resolution (1024X768 pixels)
◇Weighs 580g, 263.9mm*173.9mm*9.8mm in size.
◇RK3066 chipset: Dual-core 1.6GHZ ARM Cortex-A9 processor; 1GB of DDR3 RAM; Mali-400MP4 GPU
◇Stock Android 4.1 JellyBean
◇16GB of built-in-memory
◇2.0MP front facing camera; 2.0MP rear-facing camera
◇Stereo speakers
◇HDMI TV-out
◇USB host
◇Bluetooth 2.0
◇Micro SD card slot
◇Standard 3.5mm audio jack
◇Adobe Flash 11 support
◇1080p videos of all formats
◇8000mAh Li-Po rechargeable battery
1. Retail Package
The FSL Fast comes in a gigantic paperboard box that’s much thicker and wider than the tablet itself. It holds the charger, a USB cable, a 3.5mm headphone and an OTG cable, along with the user manual as well as the warranty certificate.
The tablet is packed in a smaller and much slimmer sub-box in the package.
The only impression this gives you is that the whole package is unreasonably humongous for such few fittings.
2. Design and Build Quality
As is mentioned above, “Fast” features a 9.7 inch XGA IPS display manufactured by LG. Yet, there’s nothing special about the resolution, especially as some 9.7 inch tablets have already pushed the pixel density to above 260ppi. If you did the math already, you’d know that “Fast” is far behind at only 132ppi.
However, this LG IPS display, which has already had great success in supporting the dominant iPad2, does have impressive viewing angles, great color saturation, deep black, infinite contrast, nice outdoor visibility, much better than most ordinary IPS display seen on other Chinese tablets and smartphones.
And yet, despite all the superlatives it deserves, the screen won’t be the Fast’s key selling point. The role is most definitely reserved to its unique design by a professional Korean team. The black border surrounding the white bezel can easily help u spot the Fast among a bunch of 9.7 inchers.
The Fast, just like the rest of the Android gang, has very few hardware controls. With all the navigation done on the screen itself, there’s no need for hardware buttons on the front panel. All you get there is the 2m pixel video-call camera.
Unlike the iPad, the Fast is designed with lateral use in mind, you can identify that with where the video-call camera is located. Of course four-way screen rotation lets you use the tablet however you like, but the lateral seems to be the default orientation.
The back of tablet is also quite cool. The steel-colored aluminum, with a porcelain plastic trim for where your fingers rest when you hold it of its back cover gives the Fast all the exclusivity it needs. The stereo speakers and a 2 mega-pixel rear-facing camera are on the back, exactly where they are needed. The two speakers are quite far apart, creating stereo effects while playing music and videos, the volume is quite ideal, too.
Also notable is the Fast’s impressive complement of ports and slots. Along the right edge (when holding the tablet in lateral orientation), you have a Micro-HDMI port, a charging connector, a micro USB data port, a 3.5mm audio jack, a USB host connector, and a TF card slot that supports card up to 32GB, which could easily accommodate most people. The reason why the Fast needs to separate USB host and USB data port into two connectors remains mysterious.
As is mentioned above, Android tablet doesn’t need many hardware controls. Having said that, along with the power/standby key & volume rocker which all tablets have, the Fast is also equipped with a physical back button, this is a very considerate addition as the status bar can be faded to dots while the display is showing pictures or videos.
3. Software
After lots of tablet makers’ efforts in improving the experience with customized UI turned out to be setbacks, many people would rather have a stock Android tablet than any skin, full stop. And FSL listens to many people. No customization has been done to the original Jelly Bean user interface, no icons changed, no color scheme tweaked….In a word, nothing has been changed.
The taskbar at the bottom of the screen is designed from ground up for tablet use, the navigation keys are in the left corner: Back, home and Task Switcher. The notification area is on the right corner, tapping it brings up the notifications box, which includes quick controls for turning on/off Wi-Fi, Flight mode, and screen rotation lock, among other features, plus you can access the brightness setting on the fly and tap into the full settings menu.
The search shortcut (voice and text) are in the top left corner of the home-screen, while the app drawer stay in the top right. There’re no dots or other shapes on the screen indicating the number of available homescreen panes and the current selection.
There are a few additions, though, including a customized FSL free market app which offers thousands of free applications for FSL users, a PDF reader which allows you to view PDF documents with the page-flipping effects, a Gaming center where you can download games compatible for this tablet. A voice assistant app which is a cool improvement from the famous Google voice search function.
The biggest improvement of Jelly Bean over its predecessor is the function of “pop-up play”, which enables you to watch videos in a floating box on the screen, and you could do some reading or even gaming simultaneously. I did play “Fruit Ninja: Puss in boots” while I was watching a clip of Adele “Set Fire to the Rain” in that floating box, and I scored more than 400 points in that game, pretty impressive, huh?
4. Performance
Rockchip RK3066 is inside of many tablets I’ve tested in the last few months, and they pretty much all work the same. The Fast is really fast and responsive, and is particularly adept for playing games – as it is powered by the impeccable Mali-400MP4, which is also used by the famous Samsung Exynos 4410. I am getting really good at “Virtua Tennis” and “Star Warfare” as I test more and more tablets. And they are as smooth and impressive on the Fast’s display as any I’ve tried.
With Android4.1, the performance has been improved in many ways: the screen rotates much faster, scrolling is smoother, and every animation happens slightly faster. I ran some traditional benchmarks on the Fast. Obviously, processing power is the last thing to worry about in this tablet – there are few dual core android tablets that can outdo the Fast in most tests.
Below are the benchmark scores of the Fast in comparison with some of the Mainstream dual core Android tablets:
If you are a fan of videos, then the Fast won’t disappoint you in anyway. The RK3066b processor in it can support all formats of videos to at least 1080P, all local videos in my mobile disk and all online HD videos I tested can be streamed smoothly on the Fast.
Below are the videos I’ve tested on the Fast:
5. Connectivity
According to the findings of testing many other tablets, metal back cover can lead to poor data reception when a tablet is connected through WIFI. Unfortunately, this is also true on the Fast. Data reception heavily depends on the performance of your WIFI router, if your Fast is a wall and more than 6 meters away from a weak WIFI router, you probably will not be able to stream online videos, and even loading the mobile version of a web page can take quite some time. At least that's what I've experienced.
However, the Fast does support a 3G network card through an OTG cable, a very cool addition since FSL doesn’t seem interested in producing a 3G version of this gorgeous tablet.
6. Battery Life
This tablet includes an 8000mAh battery, and this should be sufficient for most users. The Fast lasted more than 8 hours during my 720p video-playback stress test (with 50% display brightness and full volume), which is better than any Chinese Android tablet I’ve tested during the past several months, it even beats Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9’s 7 hours. Impressively, the Fast’s charge can last several days when the tablet is not being used, even with WIFI turned on and automatically receiving some emails. This is quite great for non-intense users.
7. Cameras
FSL includes two 2-megapixel cameras in the Fast, one in the front and one in the rear side. Both cameras did a better job than I had expected, especially the front-facing camera, very ideal for video chatting, and the camera in the rear side can shoot images clear enough to share on Twitter or Facebook. But that doesn't mean I will suggest you to take it out as a digital camera.
Front-facing Camera Shot
Rear-facing Camera Shot
8. Browsing and Reading
Most android tablets come in with a widescreen, which is ideal for watching movies. But the advantage in browsing and reading of the 4:3 standard screen which are mainly seen on the iPad, doesn’t get talked about enough.
All browsers, even the stock one on Android 4.1 can offer up-tabbed browsing experience. Thanks to the powerful RK3066 dual core 1.6GHZ processor and 1 GB of ram, loading and scrolling of the web-page happen very fast, even with lots of flash contents on it. And the 9.7 inch XGA display shows just the right size of all the contents on that page, you don’t have to zoom to see them clearly.
Reading with the Fast’s 4:3 display is even more of a pleasant experience. All screen resource can be fully utilized, and 9.7 inch is just the right size for reading a full scanned copy of magazine. Of course you can zoom it a little bit just in case the contents are not big enough for your eyes. Flipping of the page also happens very fast, even with a 300MB full color PDF magazine of National Geographic, I experienced no lag at all.
Fast's standard display compared to Tab8.9's widescreen in reading
9. Accessories:
One of the iPad’s biggest advantages doesn’t get talked about enough: It has a wide range of accessories that complement and improve the device. For a company that’s still in its early stage, there isn’t going to be an ecosystem for its tablets any time soon. But FSL did smartly release a protection case specifically designed for the Fast. The case is nice, a thin and light rubbery material with a cord for keeping it closed. Unlike most covers which only uglify the tablets in them, this case, which comes in many colors, is a rather nice decoration for the Fast.
Verdict
Like:
The design and the build are pretty close to ideal. It doesn’t reach the high point of iPad4 or Nexus 10, but it’s a solid and unique piece of gear at a super low price (@USD 160.00). The Korean team of experts has done a remarkable job in making the Fast one of a kind, and most importantly, gorgeous.
The LG IPS display is impressive in view angles, color saturation, contrast ratio and outdoor visibility. Although the 132ppi density is now far behind most other tablets, you will still appreciate it if you are a Magazine subscriber or comic reader, you can read those stuffs full screen here.
The fast-growing Shenzhen tech powerhouse has also managed to pack in a slew of ports and slots for the Fast, saving the cash you might have to spend on other tablets which need adapters to work the OTG or HDMI output.
Dual cameras and dual stereo speakers also help the Fast to stand out from its Chinese competitions. 8000mAh of Li-Polymer battery and more than 8 hours of 720P video playback is probably most of a Chinese tablet needs to have now!
Dislike:
I haven’t found anything that I particularly dislike about this tablet. If I really have to count one, it should be the startup company LOGO, which looks very poorly-designed and should only appear on the archways of a lame grocery store in some very remote villages.
Besides, if FSL wants to make it big, WIFI connectivity needs to be improved in the next generation of its tablets.
The Fast is one of my favorite tablets so far, and I can tell you it’s because of its gorgeous design, you will find nowhere in the world another tablet that looks exactly the same as the Fast, for that alone, it’s a device worth having.
Below are the scores according to the scale I’ve designed for tablet products and the chart showing the comparison with scores of other tablets I’ve tested.

VERY GOOD REVIEW!!!!!!!! But now I have only but one question can you install the play store on this device and have it work?

Not Impressed
I bought one of these as an impulse buy after my old tablet smashed on a hard floor. A glance of the specks looked ok, and I could have one in my hands in under 24 hours. Big mistake. Cost me 25 Euro to return it.
It may have a decent cpu, but for the price, the screen and build quality are terrible. That black rubber seal you see around the edge (along with some plastic clips) is what holds the the whole thing together, so the front actually creaks and moves around against the plain (slippery) metal back case. the one I tried was also developing air bubbles under the screen (NOT a screen protector - the actual screen) after a few days.
The screen quality makes reading the internet a blurry frustrating experience that will give you a headache in 20 minutes, movies were very dark and hard to watch on the brightest settings, and the touchscreen is very...very.. poor and unresponsive. You are forever repeating actions to try and get the response you want. The peripheral sockets also feel very weak and poorly made. It felt like a gamble each time you plugged in a usb as to whether it was going to break.
It seems to be a tried and tested formula used by smaller 'fly by night' ****ester computer builders. Stick in a good cpu and more central noteworthy components, but match it up with the very cheapest more peripheral components you can find to build a complete lemon. You know you'll sell enough before going down on the core specification alone.
(I sent it back and got a pipo m1 for the same price. I am now a happy man - and what a huge difference in all round quality)

Release firmware battery test further improves Snapdragon 600 performance
GSM Arena concluded yet another battery test, on release firmware, and it improved the device's talk time and video playback significantly, while web browsing suffered some decrease. Overall, with standby time staying impressive as ever, the Galaxy S4 endurace score improved from 63h to 69h, tying the Galaxy Note II.

DisplayMate test - An impressive OLED
http://www.displaymate.com/Galaxy_S4_ShootOut_1.htm
... when Automatic Brightness is turned on, the Peak Brightness becomes significantly brighter in high ambient lighting than is possible with Manual Brightness, up to as high as 475 cd/m2, which is 34 percent higher than is possible with Manual Brightness. The Galaxy S4 display is a major enhancement and improvement over the Galaxy S III – a good reason to consider trading up. The screen has Full HD 1920x1080 resolution with more than double the number of pixels and with 44 percent higher Pixels Per Inch than the Galaxy S III. It is 25 percent brighter (and up to 68 percent brighter with Automatic Brightness) and the display is 20 percent more power efficient. The Galaxy S4 also has 5 user selectable Screen Modes and delivers much better picture quality and color accuracy.
The Galaxy S4 performs very well in high ambient lighting in spite of its typically lower screen brightness because it has one of the smallest screen Reflectance values of any display we have ever tested, and its more saturated colors can help cut through the reflected light glare. When Automatic Brightness is turned on, the screen brightness increases considerably at high levels of ambient lighting as mentioned above. The Galaxy S4 is then comparable or brighter than most LCD Smartphones.

Verdict
We're getting really fed up with the design criticisms thrown at any phone manufacturer that deigns to not make it's flagship out of metal. Yes, it doesn't feel as premium, but what you're giving up in feel you're getting back in weight, removable battery and general hardiness - the combination of Gorilla Glass 3 and a plastic shell mean this is one tough cookie. ... The trend for cases is such that users aren't even getting the full force of the design either - we don't think that they should be necessary, but a lot of people are protecting their high investment. We spoke to a chap that went for the HTC One for design reasons, then showed us the huge case he carried it around in.
Make no mistake - the Samsung Galaxy S4 is far, far more than a Galaxy S3 'S' - Samsung may be copying Apple according to some people, but it's not as brazen as the Cupertino brand in flogging the exact same design with a slightly uprated processor and calling it a new phone. The Galaxy S4 is a great, great device in its own right, re-inventing what it means to own a brilliant smartphone in a number of ways. The gestures are cool, the touch-less experience amazing at times - in short, it's a wonderful phone you want to pull out of your pocket again and again and again.
The design issue is overblown. Yes, it's plastic, and yes, compared to the competition you wouldn't choose to spend £500 on it for the chassis. But it's a very solid device that belies that exterior and shouldn't be discounted for it. TouchWiz is getting a little complex now, though. The simplicity of HTC Sense shines through, and the HTC One is a superior device in many ways because the innovation is based on things users want. Where Samsung brought the ability to wave to move photos, the HTC One made the speaker better.
Where the S4 lets you scroll with your head, the One lets you take photos in low light. The latter feature is slightly offset by the S4's auto Night Mode, but you get the picture. But screw all the 'which phone is better than the other' notion for now (we'll get to that in our best mobile phones piece) the Galaxy S4 is a stunning smartphone that won't let you down for a variety of tasks. There's no doubt Samsung will have to make a big step forward to keep users interested with the Galaxy S5, but for now we love the S4 and would be proud to have it in our pocket.
GSM Arena retail unit & US update (April 24)
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s4-review-914.php
Boys at GSMA got their hands on a retail unit and are updating their in-depth review. Audio and smart scrolling improved, as well as the camera performance (my observation).
Update, April 18: We got a final retail Galaxy S4 unit and redid tests and benchmarks, made new screenshots and checked if the description of all the features is accurate. Here's what we found to have changed:
Update, April 24: Over the past week, we also had the opportunity to spend time with a US version of the Samsung Galaxy S4 for Sprint Wireless. Save for the different bands, the handset's specifications and performance are on par with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 powered device we extensively reviewed.
Added info and photos on the new eco-friendly box
The Smart scroll feature works better on the final unit
New benchmarks showing slightly improved performance
New audio quality test
New photo and video samples
The biggest improvement is in SunSpider, the retail drivers move the S4 up to the very top with an impressive 810ms mark

Thanks for the link. I always knew this phone will win the phone of the year. No other phones even come close to offering what Samsung offers. And I think the phone looks a million times better than the one. Just wait till the reviews start flowing. You'll see the true power of this beast of a phone.
Re: Galaxy SIV Reviews - PhoneArena first to review the beast with a score of...
Thanks for this. I love how everyone is bashing the design.
I bet more people love the design when all well known websites show their reviews/benchmarks.

Call quality
The Galaxy S4 delivers passable call quality - nothing spectacular. The earpiece is loud enough, but the quality of the sound isn't among the best. Things are a bit better on the other end of the line, though there's some room for improvement as well.
The loudspeaker is powerful and manages to retain a decent sounding most of the time without starting to crackle too much.

Yet Ray S came up with mediocre call quality!
Seriously, PhoneArena needs better reviewers. I really don't understand why they always rush reviews because the review, just like many of their past reviews, is not in-depth at all and I don't even think their review phone was close to the final production unit.
Yeah, they need a better reviewer thats for sure. That article doesn't do the phone justice. It was lacking in so many areas. It's like they're trying to be the first to review the unit. Oh well, at least they were smart enough to give it a 9.3..
The design is basic, which is fine by me since I want to be able to change the battery and put in an SD card. Those are the mains reason the HTC One is a no go for me.
As for the "plain" looking exterior, let's be honest here: the first thing most of us do after buying a phone is to seal it up in a case to keep it safe so it's a moot point at best.
the cons are joke :silly::silly::silly:
One of the worst tests I have ever seen.
No screen tests, no battery test, no audio quality tests, no photo comparison, nearly nothing done.

Desperate to get in first.. hardly a proper review.
Definitely feels rushed, so many functions are left out of the article, plus it may not even be the final SW.
Isn't the phone shipping in like a month? that is a very early review....
I have considered PA's reviews as smth for entertainment. Very funny reviews and funny comments below. That's all.
The structure of their reviews does not have any depth into the phone. And this one is even worse. Look at the camera part, they said smth like "camera is very good", "outdoor picture is very good", "very detail" or "Noise in mminimum". So pointless.
I'm waiting for The Verge, they maybe a little bit biased to Apple but they do make good reviews.

What I like about the verge reviews is that they don't hold back, if there is something they don't like they will make it clear.

Most of the real reviewers like Anandteach and GSMArena have posted mini-reviews saying their withholding judgment until they receive production devices. Kind of makes you wonder about other sites that don't feel the same way. GSMArena's One test is out and they've highlighted a number of differences between the pre-production devices they used and the final versions. So it's probably a bit early to feel either elated or disappointed by PhoneArena's comments.
Re: [REVIEWS] - PhoneArena first to review the beast with a score of...
I'm super excited for the S4 but that review, despite a positive score, seriously was incompetent, incomplete, very lacking, premature, and ultimately, unnecessary. It left me with the impression that the site just wanted a spike in web traffic, which doesn't benefit its writing integrity and credibility.

The Verge is on the Apple payroll. Ridiculously biased toward iOS products, I wouldn't trust them in a million years.
I wonder how they come up with all these score numbers?

[REVIEW] Siswoo Cooper i7: octa-core, 64 bits, 4G, IPS HD 5", 2GB de RAM, 16GB ROM,
Recently the young Chinese company Siswoo announced their second Android model, taking advantage of the new 64 bits processors from MediaTek.

As I have already told before, those Chinese manufacturers are each time copying (imitating less) and willing more to highlight something from their own. Today Siswoo is presenting the Cooper i7, and before going into the review, I cannot hide... it's a bullet!
Hardware
Those are the specifications of the last Siswoo smartphone:
And yes, you are right, 64 bits octa-core processor running at 1,7Ghz, GPU Mali T760, 2GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage (of which 12,82GB available for the user) and up to 64GB expandable via microSD, 4G-LTE connectivity ... appetizing, isn't it? Let's go with the review.
Packaging, design and ergonomics
The package is really simple and quite square, the one used by Elephone for the P3000s attired my attention, but this one goes back to the “standards”. Small and with the table of content and smartphone specifications.

Just taking it out of the box, two things surprised me: the design and the weight. It's really light, in a very first moment I even though it didn't have the battery, but yes, it was inside, and even so it stays on 130gr.
As we can see on the video, the device comes inside a small plastic bag and in the bottom inside the box, we will find the charger and earphones. It's very nice from Siswoo's side to include (already applied) the plastic cover for the screen.
Regarding the design, I must confess I didn't like it in a first sight, too simple and too... flat, with round edges.
BUT, once you use it, this feeling changes. And this design influences a lot. As said before, it's very light (although the different of size, exactly the same weight of iPhone 5) and with less than 9mm of thickness, you can carry it very comfortably on your pocket... and being a 5” device.
One remarkably thing on its design are the touch buttons. They are normally off, but when you use the phone or you have a notification, they light in an elegant and practical way. When not, the front part is completely black. On this front, we will also find the 5Mpx camera and the sensors for light and proximity.
Unlike other smartphones, all the physical buttons of the Cooper i7 are on the right side. In the beginning it might be confusing, since sometimes you want to press volume down and you lock the phone.
However, once you get used to that, it's very comfortable, specially because this terminal fits perfectly into one hand, and by having the buttons on the same side, you can manage it completely with just one hand.
The rest on the edges is free... except for the top part, where we find charger plug and jack 3.5 for the earphones.
Turn it. On the rear part, your eyes go directly to the 8Mpx camera with dual LED flash on the top, just below SISWOO logo and on the bottom the speaker and logo with “4G-LTE” like to remember us that we can connect to those networks.
Last on this part, I must say that the Cooper i7 does not slide at all. It's very agreable to touch and it fits perfectly on the hands, so VERY good ergonomics.
Screen
Cooper i7 mounts a HD IPS 5” screen, offering a resolution of 720x1280. It has very good quality, although I think they use dynamic contrast, because I don't feel as much range of tones as in other (first brand) phones. I mean, black is not as black.
The viewing angle is very good and I had no problems using it under bright sun, by having the brightness in automatic mode, it adjusts in seconds to any situation.
We will also find two interesting functions, "Gesture sensing" and "Smart Wake". The first one means that we will be able to navigate through pictures on the gallery and some other apps just by moving our hand over the phone (but without touching it). The second one, allows us to complete some actions by drawing pre-defined patterns on the screen when the phone is locked, like activate radio, camera, change song...
The gesture recognition is working but, at this point is not as perfectioned as in other models like new Samsung Galaxy, with the Cooper i7 you must pass your hand closer to the screen and slower.
The Smart Wake function is really interesting, I liked it a lot. I continually use it for many applications... and with just one movement!
Software, multimedia and games
This terminal comes with Android 4.4.4 Kitkat, although Siswoo has annouced we will receive the update to Lollipop during March.
They didn't apply any customization layer on top of Android (maybe it also influences the high speed this phone goes), in addition it is rooted by default and includes all the usual and popular applications out of the box (Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp, Skype, Adobe Reader, Documents to Go and the interesting WeCal) so we can start fully using it just after the first booting.
Browsing the web either with WiFi or with 3G/4G connection, it's very fast and fluid, no lags, specially the background applications (like social network notifications)
In the multimedia area is where I really enjoyed myself. Since there were not pre-installed game, I went direct to Fifa 15:UT and another action game called Contract Killer... ¡bingo!
The initial test became some weekend hours playing online tournaments (specially Fifa, I really love it). The fact of being so light and so comfortable on the hands, make this smartphone the perfect portable gaming console, and as I said before, being so fast makes the games start very quickly and loading times are very short. While playing there are no lags, nor freezes and being moving images, contrasts and colors are perceived perfectly.
I have the same feeling when playing videos, the powerful CPU and accompanied with one of latest presented GPUs make the work without any trouble. FullHD, subtitles... even working through the network I had no problem with any type. Regarding the volume, it's OK and the rear speaker has enough relief (inward) so that the sound is not muffled by supporting the phone on any surface.
Coming to the extras, GPS and compass worked very well and once again, without having to wait.
So, in general, the multimedia experience has been very satisfactory.
Camera
The Cooper i7 brings (as usual) two cameras, the front one with 5Mpx and the main one at the rear with 8Mpx, both with interesting characteristics like voice shooting control, the beauty effect (perfect for selfie lovers) or the noise reduction.
However it suffers from the great evil of Chinese phones: lots megapixel unable to perform well in low light conditions.
It was clear that the "buts" would arrive sooner or later.
I have tried the camera inside and outside. Taking pictures outside and with full sun light, the results are very satisfactory for pictures and also recording video.
But when the light is lower, other "first brand" phones like iPhone (who also mounts an 8Mpx main camera) are capable of great pictures...and with this one we will simply prefer not to zoom too much on the pictures.
I would even say that I even like more the results of the front camera (with its 5Mpx and without flash) rather than the main one, so selfie addicts...good for you! Both cameras work perfectly with Skype, just pay attention you don't cover the microphone when holding the phone.
Autonomy
As seen on the specifications, the (removable) battery has a capacity of 2100 mAh, something I found quite tight compared to the more than 3000 mAh we see often on new terminals... but very good compared for example with the 1440mAh on the iPhone 5... and more than enough for one day. I already said I spent several hours playing online.
It's equiped with fast charging technology, nevertheless I would preferred to see the latest ultra-fast charging technology (around 80% in 15min or so).
Conclusions
In the first lines of this review I already stated than although most of Chinese phones have some common points, it is each time more usual to see brands willing to highlight their "personal touch".
In my opinion, Siswoo has been able of achieving a very interesting result in which is only their second model on the market. Not only on the design but specially on the usability, the user experience is very agreable.
We cannot dismiss from our minds that it's not only the aforementioned excellent potential, the Cooper i7 also brings us dual SIM and 4G-LTE connectivity for around 180€ (as per its price on Etotalk including VIP shipping DHL only took 2 days to arrive to my house).

Good, very good to review, but I wonder what is the most interesting device, and what it may have longer duration in time ... this I 7, or R8 ...
now my thanks for the review ...
Hi bodyjoao, from my point of view they are very different devices.
Think that Siswoo is a really new (young) company and up to now they have just launched 2 smartphones, being the first one the R8 Monster. In my opinion they did like that to show everybody what they were able to do, so top of hardware specifications.
Then they presented the Cooper i7 to show that they want to do also more affordable products, but without going to low end range. My impressions have been very good testing the i7, I insist that the weak point for chinese phones is always the camera, but leaving that on a side... I'm really enhoying the i7, it's very very fast on everything... and delicious to play with very light and thin hehe
The R8 Monster costs around 100$ more and... still I'm not sure the camera will be much better.
We have very good news coming from other brands like Xiaomi, were people insist that their cameras are quite good, so I'm confident that chinese companies have already understand that people demand quality and they are giving it little by little... better finishing, better, screens, better storage... It's not always the amount that counts, but the quality

I prefer them because of the DHL VIP shipping ... take a look and decide, you will tell later which one you take!
I've been using mine since a couple of weeks, but the home button backlight somehow stays on all the time. Any idea why? Cheers, great review!

I have not had this issue... and since yesterday I'm thinking on it and surfing my Cooper i7 up and down to find anything :-/
The only I can think on is, go to Settings -> Display -> BreathLight and try to unable all of them, reboot the phone and then activate them again.
Normally it should light only to notify something.
Goos luck and tell us if it works!

More than 1 day with my normal use,... I mean a lot of wifi: Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Opera, weather and Youtube for the baby
I've also been using radio and trying 2 different GPS applications (Navmii and Navigate 66) for which I have not only tried the apps but also downloaded the maps for a couple of countries (so more than 1GB downloaded over wifi for those apps)
And planning the trip I have moved cartoons for the baby from my NAS to the smartphone using the wifi, so another 1GB moved there and the battery resisted
It's true it went faster when playing Fifa, because it was online and playing, but with normal use it's much longer.
So it's true that the battery is not as long as for other devices, but you see that also on its thickness, it's really comfortable to bring it on the pocket.
5" HD 720p is poor
it's a great screen with 5" FHD
MTK6752 support screen solution 1080P
thks a lot
you are perfect
Hahaha thanks! but just trying to help and share my experience through reviews
If you liked it, I would appreciate you clic on the "Thanks!" button
Have a nice one!!
Weak wifi on Cooper i7?
Hello,
I just received my siswoo cooper i7 yesterday. I'm also lucky with until now except for one issue: the Wifi is very weak. It has an ok connection next to the router (54 Mbps), but if I move away 4-5 meters (staying in the same room even), it drops the connection or goes down to 12/ 5 / 2 Mbps. I also tried at my office, it wouldn't work if not directly at the router. All my other devices (Moto MB 526, XT320, iPad Air) have good connection even 2 rooms further away and work like a charm.
Anyone else having similar issues? Any good ideas to solve this?
IF SISWOO IS READING -> PLEASE DONT BLOCK ROOT !
ROOTED WITH iROOT SUCCESS
Back and other Button LED = (su) echo 255 > /sys/class/leds/button-backlight/brightness // 0 to turn off
Breathlight (HomeLED) = echo (CODE) > /sys/devices/virtual/breathlightdrv/breathlight/open // 0 to turn off
CODE -> defines blinking rate - havent figured out the system but any numbers between 12 to 20.
Will add if found out more...
What about the storage? Is it unified or partitioned?
I'm still worried about the battery. Otherwise it looks great.

If you mean with unified that all the available storage is on the same partition then it's a yes, available storage appears all together as internal SD Card and it all can be used to install apps.
The battery life depends on the usage. I consider it will last a full day with moderate usage (2 - 3 hours SOT, some gaming, some calling, some music listening), but no more that that.

Yes about the storage. Thanks.
On my daily life, I don't have high expectations from the battery.
But last year, while on route to an island, I drained the battery of THL W200 within a couple of hours just by looking at the ship's location and doing some reading.
Very disappointing. I have a portable battery back but still, I would like something bigger for vacation time!

Apple iPhone 13 vs Apple iPhone 13 Pro

Hello All,
Good Morning! Hope you all are doing good! Now I am planning to buy between Apple 13 & Apple 13 Pro of size either 128GB or 256GB but, I have certain queries to have it addressed before I move further with my decision of purchase of either of them.
A bit background of where I come from: So I have so far been an Android user & Symbian user before that. These where the smartphones I have used in my past:
a) Nokia 6600 b) Nokia 3250 c) Nokia C6 d) Samsung Galaxy Note 1 e) Samsung Galaxy Note 3 f) Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus.
My usage: I check emails, sometimes surf on Facebook/Twitter, read articles on Quora, browse webpages on Chrome, watch lots of videos on YouTube (I am not a YouTUber), listen to lots of Hindi music on Spotify, Make & Receive calls, sometimes send SMS, lots of WhatsApp messaging for work & personal, love taking pictures but I seldomly go out, like to shoot videos but not a dedicated videographer, keep updating internal apps via Google PlayStore & OS updates as well via Settings (very much active on this), take backups to PC if data is full but I feel with a 128GB Storage space, that probably shouldn't be an issue.
Why am I switching? Well, all this while I have been an Android user so now, want to try something new & exciting. I've heard that Apple mobile phones are very reliable, secure from virus attacks, functions super smoothly, cameras are the best, very high on status symbol & "ShOw OFf" but I am not buying Apple for this reason. I am kind of a person who spends at one shot but wants to buy the best so moving forward down to 5 to 6 years, my mobile should still do its best in comparision to the new products available in the "Consumer Electronics Market". I am kind of a person who do not keep switching mobile phones every now & than, say within 6 months or a year. I live with my cellphone for atleast 6 to 7 years like I was with Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus for 8yrs (bought in May 2014). Its Camera picture quality is still the "BEST" even in today's time & can easily beat today's mobile phone in the range of 20k INR to 45KINR, I am sure on this.
Anyway'z, now these are the Apps I use: Truecaller, WhatsApp, few banking apps, JioTV App, Tata Sky App, Gmail, Outlook, Spotify, GPay, etc...
Now most importantly, I AM NOT A GAMER ON A MOBILE PHONE AT ALL. I am of a strong believer that a Mobile Phone is never meant for gaming purpose! Gaming is such a DyNamic concept that it require is own world & space rather than being stucked into such small world - Mobile phone.
I strongly believe that to TRULY ENJOY A SUPER GAMING EXPERIENCE, it has to be played on a LCD/OLED Television screen of atleast 40inches or above & a Home Theatre connected to it (will be like a icing on a cake) to get that Super Best experience ever. Playing games just for timepass while on move in your journey is somewhat ok but a true experience on a Cellphone? A BIG NO! Infact the amount of heat that these games can create will bring down the overall life of any cellphone from 7 years to 4-5years approx, is what I feel b'coz, Heat is the enemy of electronic components. Kindly correct me if I am wrong. I have never played a single game on my S6 Edge Plus hence, it survived for 8 years & above all, I maintain it well! It has fallen from my hands only for twice & that too at a small distance from Air to surface.
I am also looking forward to a very good battery life b'coz as its being a golden line saying: "You all of the best in your cellphone BUT, what if the battery drains down quickly? What's all those features & functions given in the cellphone be of a benefit to you when the screen itself turnoff unless again charged"? Its like one has an SUV car parked in his/her compound but with no fuel, what will you do with that SUV than? Take selfies (-; ?
Storage: I really don't know what storage space shall I go ahead with - 128GB or 256GB? B'coz, there is a very big difference in price between the two. Yesterday in the night, I sat down to check towards what will my internal storage utilize: So here it is:
10GB - WhatsApp
3-4GB - Apps
4-5GB - Photos
5-7GB - Videos
0.5GB - SMS
100MB - 200MB - Docs
These are all tentative space figures that I have mentioned above just to be on a safer side & it might increase especially for these - Photos, Videos & Apps.
I am a bit open on my budget BUT, I am very confused right now.
On the other end for a sec, it also comes in my mind WHY not to go-ahead with Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 12GB/256GB which cost far less than Apple iPhone 13 Pro (128GB), & comes with more space & RAM plus the SPen (which I don't use it much though) & is at the topmost of the line in its series. I wonder why Apple 13 Pro still cost much expensive than this high in line Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra smartphone whereas iPhone 13 is at the mid line btw iPhone 13 & iPhone 13 Max & that too in 128GB?
Thanks for your help & suggestions way in advance!
Have a Nice Day! (-:
