Unable to download a particual app even though I have the right Android os - General Questions and Answers

Okay this has been bugging me out for a week now, I can't seem to download the Chiltern Railway app on to my Vodafone Smart 858, (Huawei U8160) it says when I try to download it it just says my device is not compatible ???
I was running The smart Lucky rom with no problems and I used to have the app on my phone, but my mate thought it would be okay to find a better rom for the phone, he didn't back up any of my apps or files and just wiped the phone, he couldn't get any of the roms to work probably, So I went back to the smart lucky rom, and proceded to reinstall my apps from Google play,
I am now using the Custom Rom LegDroid CM7 U8160 which works really well, and says the os is now 2.3.7,
So I don't understand why I can't download this Chiltern railway App, it even says the minimum system needed is 2.1
Does anyone have any idea to why I can't download the App?
What if I just copied the apk file from a friends phone, would I be able to install the app then?
Any help would be great.
Thanks.

try and find one of the many market fixers out there.
find the apk, put on SD, and install via the file manager.
"market enabler" allows you to spoof your location in the eyes of the market. i'm unsure if there's one that works specifically with honeycomb.
also, rooting and installing the US version of a rom like Prime might help as well.
hope i helped.

[Q] Unable to Download/Install Apps

Hello, I have an htc Evo 4G and running CyanogenMod. A few weeks ago I was unable to download SOME Apps from the Android market.... So I started reading some posts about people having the same issue... Someone said that the solution was to delete the cache from the download manager, market, and market updater. After I did this.. im now unable to download ANY app from the market, not even Install from the Sd Card. I just see the download arrow for less than a second and it disappears. I go back to the market... and the progress bar says downloading and it stays there , nothing happens.
Is there a fix, do i need to take my phone to get flash again...
help please
Try down-grading to previous version of Market by removing update and using Titanium. Check the CM7 Nightly thread on Inc S
Hi,
had a similar problem on HD2 with a different CM Build of course.
After reboot the download started automatically again and application has been installed. Since then market downloads were working fine.
WHY? - Who knows, but not me.... ;-)
Probably this will help to solve your problem.
But first try out the downgrade of market App recommended by "ashishling".

I've had a similar issue before on my My Touch 3G Slide. After some research I found that Google Talk is some how linked to the Market. Try opening that app on your network first, making sure it signs in with your account. Then try downloading your apps from the market. This has worked for me every time I ran into that issue.

[Q] CM9 my first ROM. Where is Google Maps? I installed GAPP file

After lots of reading through this site and others I successfully rooted and installed CM9 on my Nexus S.
How do I get Google Maps back on my phone? It's my main issue.
After flashing the ROM I immediately flashed the GAPP package. Did something go wrong that prevents me from having Google Maps as well the the Navigator program?
I am ready to try to flash the GAPP package again from Clockwork Mod Recovery.
Can I just use the "Install ROM from SD Card" option in ROM manager to install the GAPP.zip file?
If not I assume I should just boot into recovery and run the GAPP.zip file?
When I installed the ROM I was only able to do so after disabling the signature check as I kept on getting an "e-signature failed" and abortion of the install. Was I correct in moving the check?
Thank you in advance.
..
I have wiped totally clean before the installs and it just seems like Google Maps isn't in the GAPP.zip pack. Everything else is there. Are you suggesting that signature verification would prevent one program like Google Maps from being installed?
I used CWM to install the pack again and same results. Everything there except what I assume are more proprietary apps...Google Maps and the Navigation. I don't know what others Google considers proprietary.
..
Just install it from the market

I downloaded the .zip file you used and still can't seem to find google maps in the .apk files...very strange. As I could have sworn I saw it there earlier.
Does anyone know what is happening or how I can get google maps in working order?! It almost prevented me from scoring a phone number from a good looking spanish woman tonight.
Install it from the market. All the gapps that you can download from the market are not in the zips. Earth, voice, videos, music etc.
If for reason its not in the market on your device use the web version or market enabler.

That will probably not work because of the fingerprint of these alpha builds. It's not in the Market on my phone, for instance.

Which alpha build are you using? Maps should definitely be available in the Market.
..
If someone could direct me to a working APK that would be great.
You have to understand that I am in China, so market-wise google maps isn't available, neither is skype, neither are alot of the VPN programs etc. Or at least I assume its because I'm in China....also browser wise its pretty damn hard to track things down that aren't blocked. Haven't got around to installing a VPN but it would kick ass to get help to get a free vpn up and running too.
Nonetheless I have definitely installed the GAPP.zip file correctly after a good wipe of everything. I am pretty certain it should work since maps.google.com through the browser seems to locate me and load the map ok.
About Phone: Nexus S running 4.0.3.

I really appreciate the help and look forward to contributing in the future!
Is Dropbox blocked? http://db.tt/KIiPq4QQ
@jesusice Thank you and no Drop Box is not blocked. I was successfully able to download and install the map file. Everything is in proper working order as far as I can tell.
CM9 and ICS = success. It is snappy and have yet to have any issues with the system. Just my abilities!
I am thinking of starting another thread titled: "Why[Not] ICS and WHY [Not] CM9?"

I hear that Market Enabler is what you need. Should allow you to make the Market think you're in a country or on a carrier that does allow the apps you want.

You need to choose a American carrier to use American market. And of course you need root access.

[Q] apk from android market

hello i downloaded some free apps from the market with a friends rooted phone and backed them up using systemapp remover. i then mailed the apks to my mail address and downloaded them on my tab (which does not have access to the market), i then tried to install them everything looked alright but then i got the message: application not installed and that was for all three free apps from the market. do i have somehow manipulate them before i can install them? thanks for any tips
Maybe those free apps are not compatible with the tab's kernel?
You already said that you backed up those apps from a phone. Try getting a market app and then download them, they'll work.
Use gapps for gingerbread from the development section, and apply them using recovery.
Sent from my Xperia Neo V using XDA
Your apps might not be compatible with your Tab's Kernel.
I would suggest you to install Vending.apk (PlayStore app) first on your tab with the help of root manager and then see if it works or not or search the apps in tab section (PlayStore), follow the old steps and then see if it works.
Good luck!
Try installing the latest version of gapps

Is the phone you are installing these apps to rooted itself? I've had problems with USENET APK downloads in the past, but after rooting just about everything works. Not sure why though.
Out of curiosity, why not download the free apps directly yourself from the market instead of attemting a direct install?
many thanks to all for the tips. will try them in a few hours when its more quite at work.
the reason i can not install it from the market is that my device is not up to the specifications, its one of those hp zeen thingys, not a great tab at all but nice enough to play around with a bit. however what i will try is to install google play as it might work (the new market) but i doubt it, it had the old vending market on it but i removed since it was not working.
what i did also is that i moved those free market apps with root explorer to the tabs memory and try install it from there but it didn't work.
is it maybe because my device is not 'strong' enough for those apps? its just normal bus and train information apps....
and yes the tab is rooted

[Q] Two app problems after flashing

Good Morning,
i had flashed my Samsung Ace with cm10 because i want to use Threema.
But now if i go to the google store, i cant download threema. It shows the message that my Phone isnt compatible.
Threema requires a Android 4.0 or higher and cm10 is a a Vanilla Android.
It seems that the store doesnt look at the android version but the phone model. How can i install now Threema?
And my second question is: Up to now i used Xabber as chat client. After flashing cm and failing at the Threema installation i tried to
install Xabber again but the store means it is already installed. How can i use the app or deinstall/reinstall it?
No one can help me?
