Best set up? - Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G

Hello, I ordered the blaze and should be getting it sometime this week. And I would like to know what's the best 4.1.2 and 4.2.2 ROM with stability and performance along with nice features. Also what mods and what kernel?
So happy to be joining this community!

4.2 and 4.3 development is just getting underway. They run very smooth, it just that some things are still broken, like the camera, bln, and few little things. There are workarounds in the specific threads. Im currently running slimbean 4.3. Beanstalk 4.3 is killer too.

Should I try all star liquid smooth?

Try them alllllll!

Don't start threads like these. There are not any "best" ROMs out there. It all leads to your opinion. Try them all out! And you came in the right time as we got 4.3! Welcome to the community!

Be careful about "best threads", sometimes things can get a little nasty. Anyways, I agree, someones "best" can be another persons worst, looks like you have a lot of testing to do! Welcome to the community!

That's great to here. My last device had 4.2.2 running without any issues. And it was older than this device! I guess it depends on the developers! I expect great things

I see in the CM10 thread this list of bugs:
Known Bugs:
Screen of Death: This is a CM10 bug, many other devices are afflicted, not just the blaze. Many people are working hard to fix this.
UI action sounds may not work at first. Adjust the volume with the volume buttons, the sounds will then work fine. This is a known CM10 bug
BLN is wonky. Working on getting us merged with the stable version native to CM10.
Fixed 20121103+ : WiFi generates a random MAC address with each boot.
Camera: Flash can't be disabled
Camera: Storage location cannot be changed. This isn't really a bug, however if the interest is great enough, I might try and figure out a way to change the system default storage location.
Other things maybe? Discuss in the thread...

Are all of these bugs still present in the latest builds?

The latest nightly is 99.8% stable. Occasionally occasional people have occasional problems once in a while. Nothing is 100% usually. I've been running it for many months now. Just user ICS camera from the market and set it to use your sd card for saving pics.

I've since moved on from CM10. Not that it wasn't superb, but I went flash happy
I'm currently running Slimbean 4.3 20130905, and I've gotta say its pretty sweet. Its in beta stages so there will be a few bugs, but honestly the only ones I've come across so far is the camera crashes, the torch crashes, and setting performance tweaks cause a reboot. Other than that its buttery smooth. I HIGHLY recommend it, sir. Its a lightweight build for superior performance, and it delivers through and through. Also flash with the minimal gapps build to keep performance nice and creamy. Slimbeam + minimal gapps = 140mgb. Smaller than your average ROM.
I would never steer a fellow android enthusiast in the wrong direction
Flash it and see. You won't be disappointed. But hey, even if you are, just flash another one!!

To be perfectly honest Liquid Smooth gave me some trouble. Even after doing a completely fresh flash it wasn't stable in the least.
That being said it never hurts to give it a shot. I saw somewhere a kernel you could flash possibly fixing any issues you may have with it. Unfortunately it didn't work for me
Slimbean, CM and beanstalk, in my opinion, are where you'll find ultimate performance and creaminess

Not really, the only thing that still exists is the stock camera doesn't have the option to save to the external SD card. Easily fixable by using a camera from the market, like 'ICS camera'.

I like this rom because is simple and fast and I'm looking for something like it.
I really like to try a Rom based on Jelly Bean but I fear to severely slow down my terminal,
and I have to use it also for my job...
If anyone have a suggestion...

You should really try the incredible JellyShot v0.5.2. It's JB 4.2.1, the most recent android ever. Google will not officialy release it for Nexus S, but this version is absolutely incredible! No kidding.
Slimbean is ok, but gets buggy along the way.
Bugless Beast is good, but a little outdated
Cyanogen 10 was not good for my battery and I thought it had too many fireworks, I like simple stuff.
Download JellyShot.
Just follow the instructions. I'm using Marmite v 1.7.5 (plain not the CM)
I use the one at column C5, is working great, no lag, no nothing just incredibleness!!
Look in search, it's my first post, so I can't post urls yet...
Cheers from sunny Brasil!
sorry for late response..
the name version v3.1 it's not related to android version is still jb 4.1.2
but as former stated I've tried jellyshot v0.3 and 0.5 now... WOW amazing fast!!!
not so minimal as slim ones but my Nexus seem to be supercharged now..(not related to zeppelinrox scripts!!)

[Q] Most Complete Least Buggy JB ROM?

I've been playing around flashing new ROM's and they all seem to have issues. Does anyone know which JB ROM has the least amount of issues?

That's subjective. If there was one be all and end all least buggy and "best" ROM I imagine we all would be running it.
What I consider an issue may not be that big of a thing at all for you. Some phones play with each ROM a little differently as well and some bugs may affect yours that don't affect mine.
So you are already doing the best thing flashing and seeing what works best for you and with your phone. The OP of each ROM should tell you major issues affecting each: video not working, torch a little wonky, etc. So that will help you whittle it down a little. Other than that welcome to fun of flashing.

Well it doesn't hurt to ask the opinions of others so long as we all realize that they're opinions and not concrete absolute truths. Right now I'm running the LiquidSmooth R8 ROM and anything that uses voice input crashes. This means JP Google Search is borked! Now is this just my issue? Would a re-flash fix it or is it a known issue? Inquiring minds wanna know....

Ive been running CM10 mainly its super smooth and has good battery life. Remics JB rom is really good also
I've never really used voice input, so Im not going to be the greatest help there. Reflashes do clear up some issues, wouldn't hurt. Maybe even a fresh download of the ROM. If you havent already try inquiring in that particular ROMs thread, to see if anyone else is experiencing the same thing. Good luck
Edit:
If its google search it may be your gapps, make sure you have the most current.

No I haven't , I once tried CM10 from scott. really an amazing rom but i was having lots of problems, while flashing the gaps,
I was doing may be wrong but i was flashing the right things i know, but well somehow i was not able to flash the rom properly, so I flashed this one , its only been a week, i am on this one.
But yes i will definitely give it a shot.
Is this one a complete daily driver ?
Little bugs doesn't matter(it depends) at all, stock had millions of them.!!
I am on 4.1.2 JB, If Slim bean is coming up with 4.2 I am going to try it for sure
Right now really happy with Liquid Smooth.

Looks quite awesome man!
Surely going to try it in a day or two.

The thing you have to remember about these JB roms on our Infuse is that we are still using a modded GB kernel. Samsung as far as I know (I could be wrong) hasn't released the kernel source code for our device and it's making it very hard for them to update the kernel. I use Scott's CM10 4.2.1 right now and it's basically been bug free. It doesn't even have all the CM source code merged into it yet. I've never had a rom with so much free memory before! I think it's amazing what he is doing with our old device and he deserves MAJOR props and donations for all his efforts!

Yeah its slim bean that I have personally built from source. I really have zero bugs and use it as my daily driver. I mean it has the same bugs as any jb ROM because we all compile from Scotts cm10 build. Its the exact same as CM 10 except with a TON of custom features! I'm currently working on a 4.2.1 version that looks to hopefully be my smoothest yet. Check it out and lemme know what you think

Lightest Rom?

Hi.
My Nexus S is kinda slow now and it cam be embarrassing sometimes.
I only use my phone for Google music, Tunein radio, podcasts, email and basic internet.
I was looking the other day to see what was eating my memory up and I noticed things that I don't use any more like twitter apps and stuff that I will never use like Google play books and play movies.
I am rooted and using a tweaked kernel, but I'm still using stock ROM. I think this weekend that will change.
I'm not interested in overclocking, just a little bit more quickness and stability.
Can anyone recommend a good kernel and ROM combo.
Kernel must have voodoo sound.
Cheers.

If you want blazing fast rom try Metal Dragon Overlord, only drawback it's 4.1.2, if you want 4.2.2. rom try Hellybean or CM10.1 nightlies.
Pretty much every kernel's got voodoo sound so that's nothing to worry about.
Rom&kernel combo? - Metal Dragon Overlord, matr1x kernel.
Hi,
Initially I was looking forward to a 4.2.2. ROM but I have read comments about lag after a week or so of using those ROM's. So I may just stick with a 4.1.2. ROM.
Looking for something that I can flash and forgot, something very mature that I can keep on my phone for the next year without thinking about it or getting reboots. Don't want to be flashing a new version every day.
Cheers.

This is the closest, or one of the closest, to a stock 4.2.2 ROM you can get and it's light, no bloatware. Also if you're using a 4.2.2 ROM, you these mods as well: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2158329
It really increases your performance and doesn't affect battery.

I assume since the topic is labeled as 4.3 that the 0813 version of gapps should be applied?

Slim Team recommends that you use their 4.3 gapps, either AIO or the minimal for best results. http://slimroms.net/index.php/downloads/dlsearch/viewcategory/908-addons4-3/downloads/dlsearch

This is actually a pretty nice ROM. Thanks killersloth!
As people have pointed out bluetooth doesn't work, but also init.d scrips are not enabled. Apart from that haven't really faced any major issues.
Hoping the next release fixes these bugs.
Any chance of getting the SLIMOTA working? I know this is an unofficial Slimbean build, but couldn't you edit the app to point to your server instead?
I really like this one! It is snappier than cm10.2, and I think I like it even better than Carbon. I'm still getting it set up, but so far I'm impressed. I. Haven't tried everything I need yet, but I like the responsiveness, and think I may have found my new daily driver! at least until something else comes along that I have to try . I'm wishing I could try Ubuntu, but it is not ready yet.
I'll stick with this for a while and see how it goes.
Thanks again, though, it's really cool to see so many ROMs popping up for this device.

Two more bugs to add. Locations doesn't work and the Youtube app is very buggy. Going to hold off using this as a daily driver. Will try again after a couple of releases.
Definitely smoother than 10.2. Thanks for the great work!

Good effort and thanks for putting it out.
Same kernel and same reboot problem.

Is there a stable and light rom?

Hi all!
I'm using an HTC One S, and I tried some different roms.
I tried Pacman, Paranoidandroid, but they're a little bit heavy and full of features I'll never use, and the battery doesn't last too much.
So I tried CodenameLungo, Slimroms and Carbon, and they're light and the battery use is amazing... but most of them are based on nightly release, and they're not stable. Sometimes they freeze, sometimes the sim card stop to work, sometimes I have to reboot 'cause wifi doesn't work...
And actually I'm looking for a stable and light rom... does it exist?
Waiting for any suggestion (except for Sense based rom, it's too heavy!).
Thanks a lot!

Thanks a lot, I'll try it tonight... even if it's still a RC.
My vote would be for CM 10 or the latest RC.

Beanstalk
I'm using holo black bean 2.3. So far its been 100% stable for me over the past few weeks of heavy use. Most stable non sense ROM I've used. Not sure its as light as you want but the less features you use the faster the rom will likely be especially over time.

That's my advise, too. Almost vanilla Android. Latest stable for ville is 10.0 (4.1.2) and RC2 for 10.1 (4.2) is out.
Jengirl ... I've been a pure android guy since putting my old Diamond to rest. A couple of months ago, had finally had enough of Sprint, sold the Nexus S 4G, and picked up a One S for TMobile. Immediately installed CM10, and after a few weeks tried Code Lungo ... same as you, just had annoying little issues. Finally decided to run stock 4.1.1, but without all the unnecessary TMo bloat and with a stripped down, light version of Sense. Ever since, this sucker simply flies ... without any lag. What made the difference was Rom Cleaner, that I customized to meet my needs. By the way, in addition to being fast without lag ... everything works!
I'm also on holoblackbean 2.3 & this thing is stable & it flies. No complaints. I want to switch to Odyssey when this one gets buggy or it let's me down.... It never has.

Ya, I've moved to beanstalk from odyssey, dev seems more active so more updates get merged in. So far it's great, not a single issue.

I tried odyssey and i had frequently loop reboot, so i passed to cm10.1.3 rc2 band it seems a bit more stable
Definitely can't confirm any reboots on odyssey. Try fresh install after 3x full wipe.... Running very smooth and stable here...
I've made the wipes but nothing has changed: I think it is a kernel instability problem

Thank you all for the advices!
Actually I'm trying Odyssey, but it's just a day, and I've never had an issue.
And as soon as I can I'll try Beanstalk too and romcleaner.
Thanks again!
Just wanted to give a suggestion to try a specific build of CM 10.1. Look for this under "M snapshot": cm-10.1-20130304-EXPERIMENTAL-ville-M2
I've been using it with no issues for a few months now and everything works.

Why use a monthly snapshot when there are more stable release candidates available?

Best stable, light ROM for me after trying all ROM's is [ROM] SourcE v1.4 | Audio quality | Smooth | [Unsense MOD]
Everything works with just the right amount of mods, especially the sound mod is best for me. Until I can safely update firmware for 4.2.2 Sense 5 this is best ROM for stability.
Beanstalk gets my vote, CM based and very smooth

Because, in my experience, oddly enough the most recent RCs have actually been less stable than the snapshot release. :/

Here's a copy of my user text for Rom Cleaner. Using it will make the rom fly, while keeping the important parts of Sense (ie: great camera, etc).
