[Q] ScreenCast is not recording S-Pen notations - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sorry if this has been answered a million times, but I did search and could not find anything specific to my question.
I have just rooted my Galaxy Note 10.1.
I went to the Play store and bought the FULL version of ScreenCast
Tried my first screencast vid to test how it recorded my voice with s-pen notations I was making.
It recorded my voice and what was on my screen, but any notations I made were invisible. (Nothing was there)
As a math teacher, I want to be able to use ScreenCast to record my screen, my voice, and my s-pen notations so that I may help explain the math. Through my searches for help, I noticed there was a mention that the latest FirmWare update had something to do with that. Any help would be great. Thanks!

Ok...I am replying to myself again..I need to update my initial query...I can record my notations using screencast as long as I'm using the s-note; however, it doesn't record my notations on LectureNotes.

@BenKatz88: There is an extension to LectureNotes called LectureVideos which allows video and audio recording while taking notes with LectureNotes.

I was trying to use the notes page with ScreenCast....I already have the LectureVideos app. I cannot figure out how to convert the vids on lecturevids.

@BenKatz88: When replying, I did not realize that you wrote in a different thread that you already had LectureVideos installed.
If you wish to get an video/audio container file, you need to multiplex the two files that LectureVideos produces using an external tool (the new Android 4.3 comes with a multiplexer, I will soon provide an update for LectureVideos that allows multiplexing without the need of an external tool). For help see the app's help page or http://lecturenotes.wikia.com/wiki/Getting_started and search for `multiplex´.

thanks

No doubt, Acadoid...you are one of the most helpful developers I've ever seen on these forums. I sure hope you're making enough money to retire with your amazing LectureNotes apps....
Anyhow, I just noticed that I have an extension for "multiplexing"...however, it requires I have Android 4.3. I currently have 4.1.2...Should I have a more up-to-date operating system? I just purchased my Galaxy Note 10.1 a couple weeks ago.

@BenKatz88: Many thanks for your kind comments.
Most current devices still come with Android 4.1 and 4.2 (my Galaxy Note 10.1 test device runs Android 4.1.2 as well), as far as I know only Google's Nexus 4/7/10 devices come with Android 4.3. Android 4.3 was released only a couple of weeks ago (my Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 test devices got upgraded to Android 4.3 only two weeks ago), I guess that it will take until the end of the year until other manufacturer ship devices with Android 4.3.

thanks

Your multiplex application only works with the Android 4.3 update....will I have to buy a new tablet (with the newer operating system) in order to use the multiplexing function on LectureVideos?

@BenKatz88: If you want to multiplex within LectureVideos, yes, then you either need an Android 4.3 update for your current device or get a new device with Android 4.3. On devices with Android 4.1 and 4.2, you need an external tool to do the multiplexing, I am sorry.

Do you know if the Galaxy Note 10.1 will get an Android 4.3 update?

@BenKatz88: Difficult to say. There are rumors that the next version of the Note 10.1 will ship with Android 4.3 (see for instance http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=opwrJ2K8VaA around 1:17), so that there is some hope that the older version will receive an update.

[Q] Is there a Android app like "Activator: on the iPhone

Hello,
I was wondering if there was an Android app like Activator on the iPhone? I have searched to the best of my abilities regarding this question but have not found a clear answer. The closest I have come to finding this answer was the app "LaunchKey." However, it does not seem to fit what I am looking for.
Reason for this search is due to my brief episode with the iPhone 3g and yes I know...(after finding out, android system is definitely better in terms of customizing and freedom) Thus during that time I came upon this app called "Activator", which is basically amazing. Now that I am back using the android system I realized the only I miss about the iPhone was that app.
So if anyone can help that would be great! Thanks!
BTW:
Background information on the iPhone jailbreak app "Activator." Basically you can launch any apps and system actions via gestures or hardware buttons. (such as long-press, short-press, double tap,etc...)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=850464
and for gestures Im not entirely sure where I saw it or or what it was called but it does exist.
Reply
Thanks for the reply, however, I did stumble upon that app but it does not really support long press, short press, double tap and other various hardware buttons. As for gestures, I guess it does not matter as much as the hardware button configuration. Basically can a button have more functions than just one ie: home button-going to home. Thanks
I'm hoping that this app exists, as its one of the first apps I discovered years ago that was auto installed after jail breaking my previous iPhone. The app basically allows you customize a very large range of settings as shortcuts.
http://m.lifehacker.com/5899492/mak...hen-you-connect-or-disconnect-your-headphones
not strongly related but here's an app which I found very useful:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=tora.mamma.swipestart
Thanks!
Thanks for your input I however have found the app "SwipePad" to be extremely useful, albeit not the original application I was looking for but it does the job Thank you again!
really!!! Android is amazing, I think is like a pocket pc, but sometimes I miss my old iPhone when I remember cydia tweeks like Activator. :silly:

OMG This is what I want to say my Android Friends Iphone tweaks are more easy way to go, im wondering How can I get Activator !!! >> since 4 years im iphone user and recently bought Note 2 (still I have Iphone) this entire conversation is what im looking for Please help to get a tweaks like that even I looked Cydia substrate for Android mm no use as of know....
Widgets are great but you still have to unlock the phone and look at the screen and press it. With activator you can, for example, press the power button of the phone twice and that will initiate the flash light... this is much better when you are in need of the flash light quickly...I wish android had something like that...

I believe since the time I have posted this question to the present, there have been alternatives as well as actual implementations to the hardware tweaks. Currently, there are baked in hardware tweaks in custom ROM such as CM10.1 (lock screen long press buttons do variety of different things) or software programs such as swipepad, or Trigger app (Both of which I use a lot)
My current ROM CM10.1 has the capability of accessing the flashlight from the longpress of home button while in lockscreen. Or even changing music volume and music track by volume press/longpress. This I consider the equivilent of what you were referring to.

**ATTENTION: any of the information I have provided are based on my own experience/knowledge/research. IT IS IMPERATIVE(important) that you do your own research to double check my information and advice. If ever in DOUBT, ask/research around. (or dont follow through is usually the safest option) YOU are ultimately responsible for what you do with YOUR device, if you don't believe this, please do not continue dabbling in this area.
You should be able to do that, to "unroot" your phone, but it depends on the device as well as the instructions that other developers/rooters have given. (meaning not 100% probable, you need to do more research)
*JUST NOTICED YOU SAID YOU ARE ROOTED
-To get Stock ROM, just download the appropriate ROM zip files and then flash it.
-if you want to get warranty back, you will have to follow instructions for your device on how to unroot. (if even possible)
Follow the instructions given on the cyanogenmod website, usually involves flashing and wiping. (sounds like you have a samsung phone )
Based on question 3 statement, I believe you have to do MORE research. (as this is an extremely basic idea of rooting, unless of course I misread or the question was mistyped) Here is where you can start:CM about
Again, you have to do MORE research yourself, google is your friend for that. There is no one size fits all unrooting method.
Cyanogenmod (also known as CM) has an software release life cycle. (not counting the M snapshot nor experiments) You have Stable>Nightly> Release Candidates(RC).
Taken from this Forum
bassmadrigal:
Stable is after all the features desired by the CM devs have been put in and the code has been tested. Snapshots (M builds) are builds done roughly once a month that has had some testing to make sure things are mostly working and released to the public. These are the first builds that allow official bug reports on the project manager site, https://jira.cyanogenmod.org. Nightlies are automated builds that are built, well, every night. There is no human interaction with these and they are largely there just to see if the code added throughout the day will compile. As far as the devs are concerned, there are no bad builds with the nightlies, because if it doesn't build, that is news to let them know that something is screwed up in the code. They don't accept any bug reports on these builds.
Generally, the nightly builds, while extremely experimental and considered bleeding-edge, tend to be relatively stable and mostly bug-free. Many people use the nightlies as their so-called daily-driver, meaning that any bugs that they may have aren't so severe that they want to switch to a different version. For my Nexus 4, as soon as I got it I switched to a nightly build and haven't had any bugs pop up.
Also, all builds are full builds, so if you switch to a nightly, you aren't required to flash every single nightly. You can do it as you see fit. I've been known sometimes to flash a build every day, but then I've gone a month in between updating. Just grab the latest version you want to flash and flash that one.

[Q] Tango Video Calls on ICS

To make it simple, I can't make vídeo calls con Tango with kwiboo's ICS. When I launch any camera it just shows black.
Does Tango works on any of the AOSP ICS roms out there?
I can make voice calls though.

Hi Shingonati0n,
My name is Art and I work for Tango.
We released an update a few hours ago that may assist you with this problem. I would suggest upgrading to the latest version.
The new update also added the ability to leave video messages and Tango surprises. You can find more information on our home page. (I'm not allowed to leave you a link as a new user)
Also, due to the large amount of variation that can occur in custom roms, we do not support devices that have been rooted or modified. Many people do use Tango on rooted devices, but we can't guarantee that everything will work properly.
Please let me know if the update helped.
Thanks!

ActionConnect APK for connecting to Ego 727

The new Liquid Image Ego 727 action camera (similar to GoPro) has built in functionality for live video streaming over WiFi. However, the compatibility list for the android app is not very good, so you must either go through the trouble of tricking the Google servers that your phone is actually a Samsung Galaxy S, or download the attached APK because I'm such a nice guy. Of course, if you actually have a Samsung Galaxy S, you won't have any issues  .
Now, if you have a Huawei Ideos U8150 running Android 4.0.4, you might find that the app doesn't work - you can launch the app and go into the camera's settings, but the app exits when trying to view full screen. If anyone has android earlier than 4.0.4 (but later than 2.2) on their Huawei Ideos U8150, please see if you can get the app working properly and if you can, throw an email to Liquid Image Tech Support: [email protected]
I have discussed these issues with a helpful staff member from Liquid Image Tech Support and the problem has been forwarded to their software engineers.
If anyone gets this app working on any phone or tablet, please throw up a video.
Also, since this app is pretty big and the board only allows 8MB max per attachment, I had to split the APK into two ZIP volumes. You will need to rename ActionConnectvlm2.zip to ActionConnectvlm1.z01 in order to extract the APK. If you can't be bothered doing that, I have also uploaded the APK to rapidshare: https://rapidshare.com/files/802073762/ActionConnect.apk
Cheers!

Will we ever get android 4.4 update?

Do you guys think that we will ever get android 4.4? I read somewhere online they confirmed the list of Samsung's devices that will get 4.4 but unfortunately, our device isn't on the list. I saw tab 2 and tab 3 but not the note 10.1. If Samsung leave us behind, i totally wont buy any tablet from samsung again.
Doubt it.
4.3
I'd be happy to get 4.3 and the new SNOTE3 app.
I'm wondering if you searched these threads before asking if/when we will see an update.
-----
Tips for a pleasant XDA:
Search before asking. Someone has likely already asked.
Spell your words completely, and use punctuation. It confuses people when you use "u" and "ur" and "dat", or when you wrongly use "there/their/they're/your/you're".
Be nice. Don't be rude, just move on to another post without leaving a comment. We are not 7 years old.
And PLEASE, do not ask for the "best" anything. We all have our preferences.
well Samsung will no more continue android software update support of Galaxy note 10.1 as it released a new version of note 10.1 so the updates will be launched for the brand new note 10.1, there is no reason to waste time on note old one any more
it was how the world roles since mankind!
they support older products pretty decently compared to other companies
just be prepared to wait
take the galaxy s2 for example
shipped with 2.3 but its current update is 4.1.2

You can share your user created notes..
First go to the folder where snote puts the created notes. Create a folder in there . Call it say personal notes. Do this on both devices..
Then use any number of sync apps or accounts like box or something from device to device..
What i use.
I own a HOME Server.. Synology disk station.. On my Disk station There is a app. on android called ds cloud.. I have it to sync the snot/ my note (directory i created as above). to sync to my home cloud server. I do this on both our note 10.1 devices and on my note 2 phone..
You can use this method with any apps data actually.. i sync notes and gallery content to name a few..
Good Luck..

And yes I Love my Disk Station. Synology rocks

no need of firmware update!! lol
My opinion is yes but probably not for a long while...the att note 1 finally got jelly bean. My opinion is a new product line of Sammy get left behind faster than the successors. In any case really hoping Google makes an app journal that supports wacam. Probably note going to happen unless they release a Google edition note 3
I am running kit kat 4.4. on my note 2000

Sorry i didnt say it clear enough. SNote in GN3 uses a new file extension and it is incompatible with other Notes. Note 2 is getting A4.3 and also the new Snote with the new file extension. If Note 10.1 isnt updated, it will be out of this serie. Now Note 10/8/2 can share SNote files, but not with Note 3. Note 2 is getting an update. Then Note 2 and Note 3 can share SNote files together, but not with 10/8... Ridiculous, isnt it?
Samsung said "Share Snote files in pdf format." That is like saying "share your doc as pdf" :banghead:

AWWW.. Now i understand.. That is totally Dump... I would not be able to update my note 2 or note 10.1 unless noth s- note apps got updated together.. Because i use the s-note files on both. Maybe its time to Ditch s-note grrr.
Samsung should make s-note compatible with other standard office programs. NO CONVERTING Needed..
This Standardized file stuff is the reason MS Will eventually Rule the tablet world. Just my guess.Same os same file format across all ms devices... Makes me really Not so happy
I would love to get Multi user mode and immersion mode from kit-kat or get version 5.0 when it gets out!
I think it is long overdue.
Hell the smartphones GN2 and S3 are getting 4.3 updates...so i suppose we have to first wait for GN 10.1 2014 to be available and hopefully sometime later we'll get Kit kat too.
We're getting 5. 0, not Kitkat

Devices could change, but I doubt they will not update the Note 10.1 2012 to 5.0. We could just wait longer for 5.0 and we'll get something more advanced in the long run.
Anyways if you want updates, just root and go to the 4.3 customs until 5.0 rolls around and you'll be fine.

So I quess, it was a panic reaction to name some "old" devices to get kitkat to prevent crucifying them totally. Im not surprised at all if they havent yet done anything but now forced to do. But be positive! They can surprise you!
1. They have been doing those os upgrades so secrectly that no info has leaked out. But why not telling it and keep customers happy?
2. They became panic after htc/sony/lgs lists and responded by giving some sort of list. Now we need to wait that they actually do something too.
We know that Samsung doesnt offer very much info about os upgrades, but they still seem to leak out somehow. This was propably the first time they gave us a clear list. But after others... Im only wondering do they really have anything to offer yet...

[Q] WhatsApp for Android 2.3 Gingerbread??

Hi!
I recently bought an Samsung Glaxy Y Pro (GT-B5510) which runs Android 2.3.6, tried to install whatsapp from both play store and whatsapp.com/android (which says that it's the minimum required version) but no luck, it doesn't install. Throws "invalid package".
The WApp support page says that Android 2.3.3 is the minimum, but i've decoded the apk using apktool and the AndroidMainifest.xml's minSdk is 15 (4.0).
Is possible to install WhatsApp on a Android 2.3.6 device?
Honestly, I don't know which Android version should be the minimal to install WhatsApp...
Why don't you try to install an alternative version like GBWhatsApp or YoWhatsApp to see if one of those is compatible with your device?

Effectively, those alt versions requires 4.0 as minimum, like the original WhatsApp APK does.
Check https://whatsapp.com/android to see the minimum required version.
A bit of a late reply, but I've been looking into getting Whatsapp for Android 2.3.4. I did get it working by downloading an older version of Whatsapp from the APK Mirror website. It's a pretty useful site as they seem to archive all the updated versions of Whatsapp (and other apps).
Unfortunately Whatsapp have stated that they intend on ending support for 2.3 firmware at the end of the year. This sucks as I've been using an old Xperia Mini Pro phone which is difficult to update its firmware. I use the phone because I think it's a beaut of a phone, even though it's old and under powered.
I've been looking into Whatsapp alternatives like YoWhatsapp and GBWhatsapp, and others. I can't seem to get any of them to work on Android 2.3, even if it states that it's compatible. It's a shame because I would really like to keep using Whatsapp to stay in touch with people, but it seems like Whatsapp is making it incredibly difficult.

Just like with any operating system, at some point old versions are no longer supported and newer programs and apps no longer work. One reason is security, 2.3.4 is not as secure as newer versions. Another reason is because very few people are still using gingerbread, they've all had the good sense to upgrade to keep from being left behind. Dropping support for older versions that are virtually no longer in use saves a lot of work when creating new developments. Why should they put all that hard work into supporting an operating system that is no longer viable?
This scenario can be compared to using a PC with Windows 95, ME or XP. Those are too old and insecure, using them leaves you open to a lot of vulnerabilities and hacks.
Do the smart thing, upgrade to something with a newer, safer, more supported operating system. You'll be much better off if you do.
