ActionConnect APK for connecting to Ego 727 - General Topics

The new Liquid Image Ego 727 action camera (similar to GoPro) has built in functionality for live video streaming over WiFi. However, the compatibility list for the android app is not very good, so you must either go through the trouble of tricking the Google servers that your phone is actually a Samsung Galaxy S, or download the attached APK because I'm such a nice guy. Of course, if you actually have a Samsung Galaxy S, you won't have any issues  .
Now, if you have a Huawei Ideos U8150 running Android 4.0.4, you might find that the app doesn't work - you can launch the app and go into the camera's settings, but the app exits when trying to view full screen. If anyone has android earlier than 4.0.4 (but later than 2.2) on their Huawei Ideos U8150, please see if you can get the app working properly and if you can, throw an email to Liquid Image Tech Support: [email protected]
I have discussed these issues with a helpful staff member from Liquid Image Tech Support and the problem has been forwarded to their software engineers.
If anyone gets this app working on any phone or tablet, please throw up a video.
Also, since this app is pretty big and the board only allows 8MB max per attachment, I had to split the APK into two ZIP volumes. You will need to rename ActionConnectvlm2.zip to ActionConnectvlm1.z01 in order to extract the APK. If you can't be bothered doing that, I have also uploaded the APK to rapidshare: https://rapidshare.com/files/802073762/ActionConnect.apk
Cheers!

Hi....I installed some apps from my G1 also. But the ones that depend on the market for update or rely on web interaction either won't install, force close or don't work quite right.
Man I sure hope that someone might tackle rooting this device soon. I think it has so much potential for being a useful device.
Rooting the Cruz Micro
Via tether its already rooted. Just adb shelled in and su works fine. So no rooting necessary as I understand it. However I am not a firmware guy so just my experience.
I did notice when I used Cruz Marketplace I got the option for Android Marketplace which has thousands of apps - not sure its Google's but worked well. One item to note is that the CPU in these is not an ARM but MIP's. It hasn't been a problem for me (if I am desperate I will just use a cross compiler to build something) but I have heard it caused issues on other forums for people.

Processor Information/Docs
I was in with ADB playing and got this from cat'ing procinfo.
system type : JZ4760
Hardware : PT701
processor : 0
cpu model : Ingenic Xburst V4.15 FPU V0.0
BogoMIPS : 527.56
wait instruction : yes
microsecond timers : no
tlb_entries : 32
extra interrupt vector : yes
hardware watchpoint : yes, count: 1, address/irw mask: [0x0fff]
ASEs implemented : mxu
shadow register sets : 1
core : 0
VCED exceptions : not available
VCEI exceptions : not available
Googling Igenic will find their site for you. Notice the XBurst in the name. They have a lot of PDF's and information on their FTP site which the website links too. Unfortunately they have great detailed PDF's on the JZ4755 but nothing on the JZ4760. Had me wondering if they took a previous design and just customized a bit for the client.
I do realize of course that a LOT can change in even a small revision of a chip. Anyway - for the 4755 they have cross build tools, linux demos, board designs, nand and usbboot instructions etc.. Even the tool chains to build for the mip's.
Man this is the best XMas present my wife has got me in years
Is there a hack to install Android Market on this Cruz Tablet? Thanks.
Android App Store App
The Cruz Marketplace (cruzmarket_com/mkt/mhome.asp) currently has a app listed 5th from the top as I am viewing it now called:
AndAppStore - Android Market Place App
FREE
This is how I installed mine, and it works like a charm.

(sorry for incomplete URL but am noob and can't post URL's)
I would love to find out if there is a way to port any of the existing ROMs to this device. The touchscreen is not responsive enough with the current firmware, but the keyboard is- that tells me there is the ability to increase responsiveness... other than that, the ability to run auto task killers would help because it looks like most apps stay resident and slow the device down considerably. Two problems that can be fixed by tweaking the firmware I believe- any developers out there with the desire to take this on?
You may want to check what's going on at slatedorid's forum. Google slate droid velocity cruz... cannot post the link
I have one as well.
I really like the device even though other tablets are offering better features in low-end tablets. I checked Best Buy today and it was $169. I got it for $199 last week before CES. I have the 7 inch T10(x) series. The capacitive display is ok for me, its like getting to know a new friend. Lack of security, Android Market, and built in obsolescence of the OS are bummers.
Worst - a smart device that keeps all your stuff but doesn't even have simple password/PIN protection. Doh!
Sorry to burst your bubble, but that app does NOT give you access to the true Android Marketplace. The Android Marketplace is a Google hosted site, and it has thousands of apps. The Android App Store has less than 2k apps, definitely missing some big important ones, like the Pandora app for Android.
There ARE hacks to get the Android Market for the Reader, but so far I've not found a hack for the Tablet (and yes, there IS a difference).
Good luck to the OP. If anyone comes across a hack for the Tablet, I would love to know.

ugh
I got the T408, i have tried twice to install market and failed both times. I am one-click-rooted as it has the 2.3 Gingerbread... easy enough... now i just cant get half the apps i want from Amazon, or Applanet.
Google Market on Cruz Velocity T410
OK so my son got the T410 for christmas, I've got it rooted and am working on a push for the google market and frameworks. Should have it pretty soon. I'll post it as soon as I do.
UPDATE:
I will go through this quickly as it was actually pretty easy. This is how I did it, I had no problems so I would not anticipate any, however standard disclaimer, I can't be held responsible for anything you do to your device, I am simply sharing my experience. What you choose to do is up to you. I didi this on the T410, but I would expect it to work the same on the T408
1. Rooted with gingerbreak and installed superuser and busybox over it (search for it)
2. Placed the app folder (found inside the gapps.zip attached to this post) on my internal sd card.
3. Installed the apps in this order:
I DID NOT OPEN ANY OF THESE APPS AFTER INSTALLATION, ONLY CHOOSE DONE AND MOVE ON TO THE NEXT ONE.
onetimeinitializer.apk
setup.apk
googleservicesframework.apk
gmail.apk
maps.apk
talk.apk
vending.apk
AFTER THE LAST ONE IS INSTALLED, I REBOOTED MY TABLET.
Upon reboot I let the tablet fully cycle the sd card checks and all that, once I swiped to unlock the home screen, I was met with a decision asking whether to use Launcher, of Setup Wizard to complete the action.
CHECK THE BOX TO USE ACTION AS DEFAULT AND CHOOSE LAUNCHER
4. I then opened the google market, signed in with my gmail account and once it had synced my device with the google servers (yes WIFI must be on and connected, I had to say it because you just never know) I had access to the market.
I have downloaded a few apps and have had no problems, it is an older version of the market and I don't have market updater installed, but I may try that later.
I have also noticed when looking in the account and sync area, it will sync my gmail, but not my contacts or calender, I will have to look at that later as well.
Hope this helps

Was Able to root my wife's T408 as well with gingerbreak and have market 3.3.4 running on it now.
First I installed apps in the order you did had done. The version of Market is dated for sure but I was able to update to 2.2.6 via the stock OI File Explorer. Anything later then that seemed to crash. I then used SU & File Explorer to r/w the /system/apps/ folder , moved the newer 3.3.4 Market APK there and installed from that location along with a system reboot. Once rebooted the new market showed up right away. Only issue is some apps list as not compatible with device but having my wife use her Sidekick 4g to download and back up the app and email it to her tablet Netflix , Firefox , and many others ran with no issue even with Market saying not compatible.

I have noticed that as well. Seems like since the Market added the ability for apps to be device specific that alot of apps don't show up for devices that aren't supported. I am playing a little with the build.prop file and when I get it correct I will let you know. Even root explorer would not show up in the market, but I purchased it from amazon and Im using it to drop apps into place.
Android Market - I used the JGM ROM, rooted with z4root, and had blank Market. Accessing market via laptop showed my Cruz listed, but no serial number. Gave up, but then by luck a week later, I went to the Market on my laptop, found an App and selected my Cruz as the device to download it to. 2 hours later, sure enough the Market was working, and that select app downloaded.
It almost seems like you have to prime the market first for the Cruz via a computer...

[CLOSED][APP] DroidCam

Hello XDA,
Well, after about 3 months of hacking away, the newest version of DroidCam is available. More specifically, a new app: DroidCamX. What's Droidcam? {Mod edit: Link removed}
Now, I'm positive there are probably a few bugs hiding - I'm working with a Nexus One and phone specific issues tend to always come up.
Also give the new PC Client(s) a go and see if you have any issues
DroidCamX Features:
- Various video formats - capable of high-resolutions. (640x480 is my phone's max, I also added 800x600 and 1280x720 - but never tested these)
- Audio support (experimental)
- Connect via ADB (over USB)
- "IP Camera" feature - I created a small Java applet to act as a mini video-only client
- Front Camera support for Android 2.3 - Nexus S users: please check this out and let me know if it works! I have no clue..
- and more..
Cheers!
You may consider trying the free version first to make sure everything works.

Yea, the free version still goes under the same name/package. It's been updated tough (Client + Server roles have been switched)

The computer client I wrote registers as a webcam, so you get to stream your Phone's camera to the computer and into Skype/etc.
You basically get an actual webcam (like if you bought one for $20+) + it's WiFi so you can walk around
for some silly reason
the paid version can be found on the market on my phone
however the free version it says "could not be found", and it will not come up when searched
{Mod edit: Link removed}
anyone have the apk file?
I've been trying this app but I get no video with droidcamX after installing the client droidcam 3.1 in win7 I can the droidcam audio driver is listed and I can stream audio. However there is no video, no video driver which means droidcam is not detected as a webcam in any chat programs.
There is no video driver, it's just a DLL. You should be able to pick it up in the video/webcam settings of your chat applications.
Just a month ago I tried every single app like this, including the previous version of this one, because I wanted to get a live stream setup from my Droid X for my sister's wedding, come this summer. They all sucked something fierce.
This new version, which I ended up buying, is a huge step up. Works very well, though I couldn't get ADB mode working. This works surprisingly well, and it has NO competition on the market, lol. (the other 'supposed' competition is like McDonald's competing against a ground Kobe filet mignon burger)
Good job, dude. Keep up the improvements! You've already got my money as of last night.
P.S., a hack to get around the x64 audio driver signature issue would be nice, (without having to permanently disable it in Windows or boot into it via F8 every time) and also a quicker & easier way to change the resolution on the Windows app would be great. Just future suggestions!
Just purchased the Droidcam software. Works just like you said. I am using it on the new HTC Thunderbolt. The Thunderbolt has a front cam but running 2.21 OS. Rear cam works great, but front cam ignores your front cam option. Could you add support for the Thunderbolt frontcam? Thanks.
Found some SDK discussion about using frontcam under Froyo 2.1
Would be great just to have a script to make frontcam as main cam so Droidcam would work. Here is the link.
HTML:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2...droid-platform
Thanks guys
@Roland: There are ways to permanently disable driver signing (which may or may not be a good thing. You have to be careful with what you install). Just Google around .. lot's of info, even video instructions. PS. I'm gonna quote your McDonalds remark on the market
@houseboatwayne: Yep, as mentioned I used the new Front Cam SDK that was released with Gingerbread (2.3) - since this is the only method to work across all devices. Before that you had to use special libraries from Sprint and whatnot to get it working specifically for Sprint devices. I'm sure there were hacks to get it working in general but I didn't look into it. The link you posted seems to be cut off
i can't make it work over usb... do you have a tutorial? i can't get my HD2 to get an IP over usb... thanks
New version is crashing on my phone. Can i get the previous version? I had the paid version. New free version does not crash but lacks zoom. New paid version is crashing, previous version worked.
not working on my phone and pc I use usb connection try different port but not working
@dev47
How can we uninstall Windows client completely? If I simply uninstall from control panel, the remnants are still there. Zoom application shows more than three camera drivers, audio sources as droidcam client 1-2-3 etc. Why doesn't the uninstaller remove them completely?
It would be nice if it didn't break Audacity on Windows.
@dev47 Thread closed! Please advise the moderators team to re-open the thread when ready to provide a free version to the XDA community in accordance with rule no. 11 of the XDA Forum Rules.

Altek A14 Leo section?

Hey
The first (Android) smartphone with camera that can really compete with the digital cameras and no section for it?
Modding it would be great
Altek A14 Leo
Altek Leo Section
regarding the serious problems the Altek Leo has, as no google apps, not even market, no rooting published, no adobe flash, firefox will not install and so on,
a section would be useful for the distessed owners of this camera phone which
is more a fumble phone than a smart phone. Its advantages are a very good lens, an outstanding CCD chip, a xenon flash and professional camera software.
True, is buggy
I bought one actually and despite it being pretty buggy, I just absolutely love the camera.
Definitely needs some software love though:
1) Interface is pretty sluggish and 2.1 isn't helping, the latest android performance improvements would be nice.
2) Touch-screen is strangely inaccurate. Swype was a must for me.
3) Battery life is pretty bad (not certain how much a newer Android would help, but any amount of powersaving fixes would help).
4) Buttons/widgets to lock the screen (e.g. Extended Controls) don't work.
5) The camera button doesn't open the camera when the phone is locked (debatable I guess, but imo, the camera button should just open the camera, period).
6) Default alarm clock doesn't ring randomly.
7) Not to mention apps randomly crashing, strange animation bugs in the Album viewer, no google apps, terrible GPS, etc.
But despite those, I've managed to work my way round them and am in love with it.
Alex
I have one of these and I do like the quirkyness .
I would love to improve the experience by modding.
Quirkyness fits well
To continue the list (more than enough for a forum)
- Backups by Titanium, AVG or Nandroid do not work because i have no idea
how to root the Altek Leo.
- WLAN range is still very short and does not always an automatic reconnect.
- I could not manage to make any browser play flash files, but the moboplayer
plays flv files well.
- Apps like soundhound say the microphone is blocked.
About half of the apps i need are not available because they will not install
or they are exclusively available over google market and getting them from
file hosters seems a bit risky to me. Most of this problems seem to be caused
by the small software space of 120 MB for files and 83 MB for running
applications.
But i will keep the Altek Leo and use it because the camera prooved itself
as outstanding among mobile phones.
- I use the application stores Applanet, Amazone Appstore, Handango,
SlideMe SAM and the tools Memory Booster Lite, Android Tweak.
Does anyone discovered any other useful helpers for this half of an
ANDROID device ?
"We do not need any adobe flash, we have got a real xenon flash."
Where To Buy
Does anyone know where to pick up/order one of these units?
Here To Buy
Search at Ebay, you will need a Paypal account.
I bought mine from Wifigadget.
Eason of Yupitek provides International Customer Service,
have a look at the facebook pinwall.
Thanks for the tips! Really like Memory Booster and Swype.
If you're on a mac, the "missing sync" from markspace is well worth the buy - particularly given that there does not seem to be a way to add a Google account under accounts and sync - it's missing on my altek leo! Anyone elses too?
Also recommend "Lookout" if you're worried about virus from no easy way to get apks other than file sharing sites.
Despite the quirks, very happy with this all-in-one device - music player + phone + camera - 3 down to 1! Fantastic!
Vignette
Sidenote, 'Vignette' is the perfect app for this device.
It doesn't fix any of the quirkiness, but it's a photo manipulation tool which complements the fantastic camera perfectly.
You can take your pics and then touch them up making the phone a studio for all things photography.
You can purchase it from the AndAppStore.
By poor battery life, how many days do you get out of it?
root and market
Has anyone tried the Gingerbreak exploit? I heard it might work on older devices. Also, if you don't trust file sharing sites and want stuff from the market. You could try running an emulator and installing the Market on that, then sideloading the APKs. I haven't tried it myself yet, but it seems there are a lot of people doing this. Here's one HOWTO which is specific to Mac but I think it's prety much the same or at least you should be able to use the same system image. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1387830/how-to-install-android-market-app-on-the-emulator there are lots of other links if you google "android market emulator" I don't have the Leo yet because they're sold out in Taiwan, but I've got mine on order. I'm most interested whether the google apps work at all if they're sideloaded. I've just sort of bricked my older Cyanogen device. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Oh, here's a Windows specific link - http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/10004/accessing-android-market-from-android-sdk/
and be careful with Gingerbreak!
There's also UniversalAndRoot to try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=747598
and SuperOneClick http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
Poor battery-life
@rocky7st
It depends on usage. Light usage is ok. Any sort of medium/heavy usage won't get you through the day.
I bought it from an ebay seller which sent me 2 batteries which was helpful:
cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230614421067
It's is useful since it allows me to occasionally geek out with the camera, playing with apps or using the GPS (i.e. 2 hours straight) and and it'll completely run out of juice by late afternoon.
I usually wait till I get home to recharge it on those occasions, but it's been very useful to be able to switch to the backup battery if I'm out and about and I really need to use the phone.
@everyone_else
On the topic of side-loading apps, my gf has an Android phone with a market on it, so I use the "Astro" file manager which allows you to "Backup" the apks, and then I transfer them to my phone via email.
I've been unable to get my device to show up with adb, so not far enough to try SuperOneClick.
UniversalAndRoot says something like "unable to root"
Z4Root says "running root exploit" and does not progress..
That's bad news but good to know at the same time. Hopefully there will be a method soon. Still waiting on mine but I unbricked my older one. Seems to be an almost total lack of hands-on reviews (outside of a trade show) so I thought someone might be interested in this one. Also, I emailed the author to see whether and how he installed the Market app.
http://120x160.com/old-entries/216-hardware-review-altek-leo-a14-camera-phone
Cheers for the reply jackflap. Do you guys know anything about the Android 2.2 upgrade, I've heard Altek is meant to be releasing it next month.
Okay, I got SuperOneClick working so I have root. ADB worked in windows after installing the Altek software.
ADB in linux still cannot find the phone..
So I tried installing various vending.apk files but keep getting MISSING SHARED LIBRARY or out of date SDK.
@daktak I've been trying to develop for the Leo but have not been able to get ADB to work in windows. Where did you obtain the Altek software?
Hi All,
I am a complete noob here and non technical.
Recently bought an altek leo with the sole purpose of loading an app called Passport Photo Plus and using the device to create passport photopgraphs and to send by Bluetooth to a compatible printer.
We have been doing this on other android smartphones but wanted to use the altek due to its camera features.
It appears that our desired app is ony avaiable on Market.
Being non -technical we have tried and failed to find a way to install this app on our leo.
I'm sure there may be other apps available but we specifically want this one due to it's features.
Does anybody know if this can be done, and if so how? Can anybody point me in the right direction (in easy to understand non tech terms please!)
Would happily pay a small fee for succesful step by step instructions (not sure if I can post that here, if not please ignore / mods pls delete).
Many thanks in advance.

[Request]TOTALE Companion APK

Rosetta stone just released their TOTALE Companion app for Android:

However, for some reason my rooted G2x running a version of Cyanogen is listed as not compatible. Can anyone PM me the APK or post it in this thread? I have TOTALE and I want to be able to use this app!!!
I manage on of their kiosk's and the only devices they currently support are...
1. Galaxy S II by Samsung
2. Incredible II by HTC
3. Droid Bionic by Motorola
4. Droid II by Motorola
5. Droid 3 by Motorola
6. Galaxy Tab 7 by Samsung
For the life of my I cannot figure out why they only allowed these particular devices... Maybe later on they will open it up for more but who can say. It really irks me too since I have the Dx one of the most popular android phones and it got no love from them.
My wife has a DIIg and I was planning on using hers to nab the .apk file later tonight. If the global cant d/l it then someone with one of the listed devices above will have to get it and post it up.

OK interesting. I will wait patiently. Thanks for letting everyone know.
Here you go.
It is in two formats the APK and Titanium Pro's backup files that can be placed in your designated folder and restored.
I messed with it on my DX for about 30 min playing around with several languages and guess what it workes perfectly... So locking it down to just those 6 devices is kinda jacked. Im guessing that's all the devs had to play with when they put it together for android.

1.0.8 APK
The APK link here is for version 1.0.1, any chance someone could post the new 1.0.8 version? I am hoping that they added hiragana/katakana and romaji for Japanese. Also speech recognition for Japanese was broken in the old version.
Brand new Galaxy Nexus, and within two weeks of launch, Hulu decides to drop support for my device. Then I decide to start using Rosetta Stone again, and that too has lost support for my device. This is becoming a huge problem for me, I feel like I did when I had my Evo, and was installing modded Flash APKs just to run Hulu in a browser over wifi.
Anyways

There is the link for the Totale Companion 1.0.8.
For future reference, there is an app in the market called Device Spoofer, that simply changes your build.prop that the market uses to determine your device, and filter its listings. You can either modify this file yourself, or use the app I mentioned to do it for you.
This gets you Rosetta Stone, but unfortunately doesn't make Hulu work on my Nexus.
On another side note, I too am using Rosetta Stone for Japanese, and unfortunately, Japanese isn't even supported in version 1.0.8.
This mess just keeps getting bigger and bigger. Hopefully there is an update soon, that will take care of this.
Totale on Droid X
Thanks for posting the Totale Companion 1.0.8
I was able to install it and run on a rooted Droid X running Android 2.3.3. Voice recognition and everything works so far. I had to manually activate voice recognition because it disabled on an error on the first attempt. So far it works great on the latin american spanish module.
Please continue to post any apk version updates
Anyone able to post the latest version? Thanks in advance
Where do I acquire an email and password?
No one has the latest version?
They want to pay 500 € for this program? They are crazy!

Hi I did every thing you say but I have no email address and password.
What I have to do?

Google Hangouts 2.0.012 KITKAT version with SMS working on Gingerbread 2.3.3

Hi Folks
Feeling too happy to report that even GB users can get a glimpse of what Hangout 2.0 performs on android 4.4 KITKAT!!
First of all let me announce the device I've tested it on. Mine is a Dell Streak running GB 2.3.3 Traveller's DSC ROM.
How I did it:
1. I have my phone rooted
2. Renamed existing hangout apk so that if in case i need a backup. Mine was in /data/app folder
3. Moved and renamed attached hangouts 2 apk as "com.google.android.talk-2.apk" (without quotes) - don't know if this a useless step?
4. changed permission of the renamed apk to rw-r--r--
5. Cleared dalvik cache
6. Opened the app and enabled SMS on the prompt and allowed it to collect all existing SMS messages
7. Voila! everythings works so far.
Features:
1. SMS integration
2. More fluid (in my opinion)
3. Online/offline notifier
4. Still exploring the differences
5. Will check if this can be integrated into the ROM itself or not by getting rid of MMS.apk
Need your feedbacks and press thanks if it works for you too. :victory:
Link: here u go! My dropbox shared URL
Came to know that video chat in hangout wasn't working with only the steps above. to fix
1. Download the libvideochat_jni.so
2. Move to system/lib
3. Change permission to rw-r--r--
4. Try video calling. Should work now!
5. Let me know
*NEW ADDITION*
HOLO themed black version (via- makers of Ultima ROM) of the same 2.0.012 version here
IMP: Please do NOT update hangout or else you will lose SMS functionality.
Successful, tha nks
This worked just fine on my Samsung Proclaim with 2.3.4. I had just been trying to sideload the new 2.0 yesterday, and it wouldn't work and I was afraid I might be getting screwed here in the near future. I use google voice extensively, and with the recent announcement that google would be dropping xmpp support for voice, I can tell that it a sign of much greater hangouts/talk integration and I'm a little concerned that my numerous pieces of older hardware are going to be left out in the dust. So, I had tried to sideload the new one yesterday, and it wouldn't work, but following your prescribed steps, it's working just fine now.

This step shouldn't be necessary if embedding it in /system. Hangouts.apk works just as well. Like I mentioned in my ROM thread, I'll have to try this out. If I like the change, then I'll update Traveller DSC.
Have you attempted this with any of the other KitKat apps?
Works for me by just installing it and not pushing it as a system app. Android 2.3.7

How about video calling? Does it work without pushing the .lib file?

What about the gallery app? Does it give you the parsing error?

If you don't have to add that file, you might want to check to see if your ROM already includes it.
On a side note, the KitKat version of Hangouts is apparently available on the Play Store, but only for ICS and up.

The newest one released yesterday will install on Gingerbread phones. However, SMS has been removed for folks below 4.0. The previous version pulled from the Nexus 5 did put Hangouts SMS on Gingerbread.
One thing the portal article doesn't mention is that Google does version checking on its files. If the API version isn't sufficient what is downloaded is an older version that would work at the given API version. Case in point is Gmail. The current version is 4.6, as my ICS tablet will attest. However on a Gingerbread device, a freshly delivered version from the Play Store will be version 2.3.6.
In the case of Hangouts, the version being downloaded to Gingerbread devices is version 1.1 build 12 or something similar. Only ICS and up will get Hangouts 2.0. So to summarize, it's not that certain features are being disabled (as this thread can attest to) it's that Google is sending an older version of the app to the device.

It's kind of silly really, since the 2.0 version works fine on my Gingerbread ROM. Sending texts, receiving texts, pictures, video etc. Even the holo style settings menus work. Nothing appears badly broken, but from time to time it might force close.
The API support is within the APK, because otherwise it wouldn't allow you to install it. So if google strip that away then they're doing it simply to get people to update to a newer version of Android.
The file here is 2.0.012 (884159-30). The version Play Store will install is 1.2.018 (849105-30).
In one respect it isn't all that silly. Gingerbread is a few years old now and Google wants to focus on Android 4.x. I actually can understand that. What I would like to see, but never will, is Dell going back and making a KitKat ROM for the Streak, especially knowing KitKat will work on the Streak.
I can understand that they'd like people to upgrade, but blocking a feature for no good reason is silly. The 2.0 version clearly works. Yes theres the force close that happens 2% of the time, but that's going to be a bug in the code and not an API issue, because if it were API related it wouldn't even run or it'd force close every single time.
Of course I'm due for an upgrade anyway, and I probably will soon, but it still would of been nice to see google officially support the 2.0 version on Gingerbread.
Hey it works bt always show the number.... I mean showing the number insted showing the name which I save in my phone or sim card

Yes, that is a known issue even for Nexus 5 owners. An application bug probably to be fixed in next few versions. For now few people have found changing their contacts to international format helpful (like for Indian nos changing it from 022xxxxxxxx to +9122xxxxxxxx). It didn't work for many but there is no harm in trying for now. Do make sure to force sync contacts and then switch off your phone and switch back on.
Let us know if it helps!

Hey man, can you see if the latest Hangouts update with messaging will work on Gingerbread? I'm certain it won't, but maybe you can give it a shot again.
I checked all later versions but those don't work with SMS support. May be @theos0o can help us by enabling SMS support for all devices as he did for FB messenger.

Thanks for at least checking. I'm sure many of us appreciate it.
