Hello
I own a LG P500 2.3.3..
So, i decided to root my phone (i hardly have the basic knowledge of it)
anyway i followed http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1200167 and rooted my device. Everything was perfect..
Now i'm stuck on what to do next?
I downloaded Titanium backup removed few Dumb Default Apps and Backup'd the rest
What to do next?
What about ROM and stuff?
Custom ROMS
Install Adfree from the market
Get wifi hotspot working if it is disabled
Remove bloatware
Overclock
Download a custom ROM through room manager app and enjoy the new experience

You can do more thing after rooting your device.Use SYSTEM APP REMOVER to uninstall some app you don't use maked more free memory.Use Titanium Backup to backup and restore your apps. And so much more You can do...
Watch pr0n. Then unlock and flash a new rom.

What else would you do with an unlocked device? Load whatever you want and enjoy its full potential.

Download a good kernel
Install SetCPU (allows you to OC and UC). Good for saving battery while the screen is off.

I agree with whodisname. When you root for the first time it's all about learning what is available. Just keep checking your phone's forum and reading everything you can about the ROMs and the kernels.
Next comes the frustrating part: installing and having things go wrong. They will, so make sure you are ready to reinstall all of your apps manually a few times. You should have a backup made from before you do any changes to your kernel or ROM. Keep that no matter what. And btw do not install anything ROM or Kernel that is not SPECIFICALLY for your phone model. You do that and it's game over Chuck.
Yes read and dont rush or end up with a bricked phone which will be no good to man nor beast

All excellent suggestions. I ROM switch at least once a week, just to ty different ROMS. I am using my Thunderstick right now because I am in the process of unbricking my Rezound. It's learning and pushing your phone to the maximum. It is the same reason my PC is liquid cooled, take it past the basic specs and try something different.
Hi everyone,
I have a Desire S which i flashed a few days ago and installed Cyanogenmod 7.2, however I dont like that rom too much and I'm considering flashing the MIUI rom for the Desire S, I need to know a few things can someone please help?
1) Is the MIUI rom a good rom?
2) I have flashed using 4ext recovery to cyaogenmod 7.2 can i use the 4ext recovery to flash MIUI or do i need another recovery tool?
I read the instructions on MIUI website and they recommend flashing using revolutionary, so i am confused now, is it that u need a different tool everytime u want to flash a new rom?
Please help

1) Old MIUI (GB-based) is stable. New MIUI (ICS-based) doesn't seem to be from when I ran it
2) Yes - read the MIUI thread in the Dev forum and you will find everything you need in there

1) MIUI by all means is a good rom . There is no disputing that especially since they made use of kernel 3 which makes it much better.
You said that you were using CM 7.2 >
I dont mean to influence you in any way but I had honestly been sick of all the rumors about the desire s ics update so as to when it will finally hit shores and also regarding the carrier update timelines, especially since htc sense 3.0 made me dread using my phone. rebooting took nearly four mins on average.
After rooting i took the plunge and flashed a Jelly Bean rom ( currently using JellyTime CM10 Saga R10.1 | Unofficial CM10 With Kernel 3).In all honesty its one of the best decisions ive made. Project butter is a dream .
No lag whatsoever and free ram hovers around 250-400 as opposed to 70-220 when it was running sense 3.0. The only drawback Ive found is that the front camera doesnt work, which i think isnt too big of a deterrent for me.
Rest assured the dev (blindndumb) is already working on it. You can check it out on his site www.blindndumb.com . Also there are a plethora of roms available for the desire s
2)About the recovery part I cant exactly vouch for that, personally I've been using 4Ext and have no problems whatsoever. Ive flashed about 15-20 roms and have found no problems.
P.S
Also if you if miss the MIUI interface you can always opt for a MIUI theme. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1853132 .
Hope i've helped

Just to try and clear up a misconception here. Free RAM is wasted RAM. Having 300MB of RAM unused is no better than having 50MB unused.

Agreed, but basic switching of home launchers almost brought the phone to a stand still. Also gameloft titles compatible with the desire s often forced closed and suffer lag. I have no issues with it now.

Free RAM is DEFENITELY not wasted RAM (unless it's TRUE FREE RAM, which task managers don't show)

Thanks for that - but I have always learnt the opposite. You have thrown a great article in there, but there are plenty of people far more knowledgeable than me who argue the other way to that.
A good example is here. This report was originally inteded as a discussion about the use of Task Killers on Android (something which I do not understand why anyone would use) but if you read the comments (there are a hell of a lot of them) below the main article then you will find that nobody seems to actually be able to say for certain one way or another.

Yep, there is a BIG misconception about task killers.
Still, I''ve read just a few of those comments, and I think people keep confusing free RAM with unused RAM. For example, built-in task manager shows "free" ram, but that's only RAM not being used to cache apps. Below that, the rest of the ram available is always being used to cache system parts (many of which, sincerily, I don't really understand) which makes the phone run smooth. Knowing he ammount of "free" RAM required to cache all those system parts and trying to always have it available is the key to having a smoother system.
There are some "min values" of free ram that trigger the process killing, and in some roms (Venom Tweaks on chinese rom, for example) you can edit those min values. If unused RAM was wasted RAM, then those free-RAM-process-killing-triggering-levels would be close to 0, right? but still, they are something like 64MB default, so that, to me, is a little living proof that "free" RAM is not unused.
Anyway, in my head it all makes perfect sense, but it is hard to express it writing here, specially in another language!
EDIT: of course, I am sure that if I read all the answers, there would be people making much more sense than the ones I read. but there are thousands!

Revolutionary is a tool to unlock the phone, not a custom recovery.
You can flash miui or any other Rom with 4ext, or a different custom recovery, like cwm. 4ext seems to be the most reliable and feature-rich recovery at the moment.

This symptom is exhibited if you flash the wrong kernel for your device, thereby making the touchscreen not to respond. However the hardware buttons might respond. Flash the right kernel for your device.:good:
I'm pretty sure I got the right kernel, I found that the screen works its just off by several inches. I used the stock kernel posted somewhere on here. Before I used the stock kernel I couldn't even get it to load so I think its the right kernel.

This might be due to a wrong dpi setting of the rom that doesn't match your device's display hardware . You can use an app that changes the dpi setting back to its stock value. Since it is a custom rom, maybe it might have an option to change the dpi in settings.

Since it is off by several inches, it might be difficult to use an app to change the dpi. Its better to edit the rom package zip using a computer to change the dpi back to stock value and again flash this modified zip in CWM.
Follow these steps to edit the custom rom zip file
1. Copy the zip file to the computer and open it using winrar (no need to extract)
2. Navigate to System folder
3. Open the file name build.prop using notepad.
4. Scroll down and under 'Additional_build_properties' look for the line ro.sf.lcd_density = xxx
Replace xxx with stock value and save it.
5. Save the zip for the changes made to be merged.
6. Transfer it to your sd card and flash it.
Hope this helps you.
Thanks! I can't wait to try it. The wireless keyboard I have works great so I'll try to set it from the device.. ..do you think an LCD density app would help of there is no option within the rom?

A wrong dpi setting makes the displayed objects to appear shifted and not all objects will be visible. Hence ensure that you have the stock dpi value.
I tried it with a LCD density app, no matter what I set it to the touch was way off and always by the same amount. I could see the coins and keyboard change size but the screen was off by the same amount each time.

This might be a bug in the custom rom you have used. Ckeck to see if this is a known issue from the site you have downloaded the rom. Perhaps they might provide a fix or an update.

Have you found any solution yet? Im having the same problem with the screen being off by several inches even with the stock image from the craig website flashed back on it.
same with me it started after i flashed the kernal from the craig website.
I never flashed the kernel from the Craig website. I used a rom I had found here. Before I flashed a new rom I used the online nandroid backup app. After I flashed the new rom had the same screen problems. The cwm recovery was installed with the rom and with the help of a cheap wireless keyboard I was able to use my nandroid backup to restore my backup. After it was restored my tab was working fine and I have cwm. Now I'm just trying different things hoping to find a cm rom that will work.

Is it possible for you to upload the backup for me to try to see if it fixes my problem as well?
Hi! I'm new here, but i am a bit experienced in stuff...
Anyway, when i got my Tab 2 7.0, i did flash it to Cyanogen. Now, i am on RC2
Now, i am stuck on a question: "Should i get ParanoidAndroid 3+ or stay on CyanogenMod?"
I *can't* find any clear opinions, bug list, installation instructions or kernels... ( I know what is Factory Reset, but "Wipe Everything"? )
So i ask your help, guys. ParanoidAndroid seems an A+++ rom for me, as i like costumization. No, do not ask me to get Xposed, it's already hard as it is for me.
So thanks guys!

I flashed paranoidandroid on my Tab2-p3100 but i had problem with the mic, which was not working at all.
I never flashed cyanogenmod on my tab (may be I am afraid of the term "nightly" makes it seem very unstable, you know!, though, they say they are as stable as they come).
Now there is this PAC-ROM , claims to have all-in-one features of all the roms together, i flashed it as well, it was also a good rom to test, but there were some bugs in it (you can refer to the thread), now I am using Adishakti's Dark-Fantasy-2 rom, which is a modded paranoidandroid+AOSP+ maybe caynogenmod ROM but it is really very good and stable, least of glitches i noticed elsewhere

Please, I beg you, try cyanogenmod. If your uncomfortable tyr the cyanogenmod RC 2. It is the most stable ROM I have used. I have used to for almost 3 months now. Since I am a flashaholic i flash other ROM's often but i find cyanogenmod the best and I always go back to it.

I agree, also. I think it is funny how people go crazy over ROMs which are just other roms modified to the makers preferences. Not to say the makers do not deserve credit for their hard work, but why not take a good ROM and mod it to your own liking. Just an opinion.

Wow, so many comments on my "2cents"
Maybe my comment was perceived as "noob rant"
I had some experience with cyanogenmod in the past with some older phones (gingerbread ones) and definitely i was hooked to it then. But like I said, I was just afraid to try it on my Tab because of that dreadful suffix to it, and Luigi, your comment has really moved me
I am a member at cyanogenmod forum for last 2 years by the same name and I think on this forum too by the same name.
I actually had nothing much to post on xda previously because almost everything I wanted to know was already posted and i used this forum's knowledge to flash friends' phones mostly and had no experience of anything i used so nothing to post, but, since I now own a Galaxy tab P3100 and most of the time I am reading this section about the tab, I just wanted to share what i thought appropriate, that's all.
Thanks for pointing out that the rom I was talking about is a modded PAC-ROM, and I think what one flashes and uses is a matter of personal choice, i just shared my opinion as i think the OP asked for that.
Thanks for the comments

Actually I had a huge backup of applications but I happen to read the SGT2 cyanogenmod nightly thread and right there in the first or second post users are warned against using titanium backup to restore apps. And I thaought, what the hell, maybe I need to wipe Internal memory clean from time to time so why not now.
Somewhere in the forum a new app backup software is suggested, "helium backup"! Any experience with that?
So now we are going way off topic

Yes, I used pimpmyrom to add bravia2 engine, the sound tweaks, gps mod for better GPS lock, except for the quality of video, all other things improved as expected. I could not notice difference in video quality.
Gprs was also improved, no 3g where I live.

Hello i have T211 and it doesnt have any rom on it
many ppl have said tht there are roms and i hv tried them but both roms were broken zip files (dunno why)
so if anyone wants rom just post here
i will only make the rom if more than 5 or 6 users want it
Just so u know this is going to be stock based since im not a very big developer
however i am a busy student so i ccant rush it
if anyone wants the rom reply or drop a thanks on this post
if anyone can give me a link for the deodexed rom the process willl be faster
if there are none then i willl have to do the process
also suggest me features for the rom and i will try to do that
I just want a rom with the multidpi. I like to set it to 120 or 160.

I cant put that feature directly in the rom
since apps are unreliable
but i can make flashable zips for different dpis
It would be nice to have an updated rom for T211 since I saw some people looking for some (including me). Also, we all know that roms for this device are discontinued a long, long time ago.
i see i will make a rom then a working one
since it will be stockbased it will be bug free or hv small problems tht can be solved easily
about updated i dont think i will update whole rom but just some bug fixes by making flashable zips along with some new apps
it will take me some time to start the process
since im very busy with my studies but u can expect it within this week

Ill just wait till sarfariking makes his rom
If he successfully makes it then my current rom will be useless

sarfariking need help to fix the kernel if you know about kernel you should help him

The infamous tab 3 rom works really well with the blackhawk kernel....The Rom by itself will not run properly,,, boot up is slow and doesn't display the boot animation, various force close issues, but as soon as the kernel is installed, the Rom performs flawlessly(however I have yet to get a nandroid backup as they all fail).....I really would love to see development for this device as a lot of people are going to this phablet because of the cost vs paying for one of the large phones.....this device needs and deserves attention from developers.....I will be glad to test and make donations to further the development of a working 4.2.2 upgrade and further as we are stuck with only one working Rom......
UPDATE : after installing the blackhawk kernel I was able to get a working nandroid....installing the kernel is a must with the Infamous Rom,,,,, it will not run properly without the kernel!

Yo,
I tried infamous but there was a download problem or sumthing it turned out to be an incomplete file
If u can tell me the version u are using...
I can use it as base and remove all the bloat, add some tweaks, add some awesome apps, replace samsung apps , tweak the ui, add a lot of customizabilty, replace the ringtones, add gaming tools,
Rom will be ready with the must have root apps that u install after every rom change etc.
So these things are what i can do
U think tht i should make it?
Or maybe wait for safarikings rom?

He is an experienced developer and im a noob compared to him
Just so u know i dont have enough resources or ability to help in development
He wont need me anyway
He just needs testers and logcats for his success
I can only make stock based roms infact i learnt making and made my first rom just 2 weeks ago

The Rom is fine! I'M USING IT NOW...I downloaded it and installed it yesterday from the link here at xda... .The only problem is once it's flashed when it tries to boot it takes a tremendous long time then there's no boot animation but after you flash the blackhawk kernel everything starts working.......flawlessly! The real problem is we need a working 4.2.2 upgrade as the SEAL file for this device is incomplete and won't even flash......I'll add the link to the infamous Rom here.... http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23134718111253322
I downloaded and flashed this yesterday, but only got it working this morning by flashing the blackhawk kernel over it.....it works perfectly, but be sure to go to the blackhawk link and flash the 2.0 for sm-T211...
