Hi,
HTC 7 pro is supposed to support 3G speeds. I am currently with Rogers (Canada) and have a fully unlocked phone. It looks like my phone is the Euro version. No branding on it what so ever. My question, is it possible to re-configure the phone for Rogers network to attain 3G speeds? Everything else works, MMS\Phone\SMS\GPS etc. It all works. Just want 3G speeds.
I have looked at ##3282# settings, but I have no clue what all those mean and I am unable to make changes. There is a setting for "Network Type", when I change it to 3G only, I loose connection to the network (Rogers) no phone, etc. But when I switch it to 2G only, it connects back to the network (Rogers).
Thank you so much!

I have TP2 CDMA version (Initially a US cellular phone i think)
I have Unlocked it (sim and CID) then installed the world phone rom as well.
Put a AT&T sim in and it works
But no 3g!! - Only edge 2g
The settings are already on the phone (with cilgular login)
Anyway of getting the 3g to work?
You phone might not have compatible AT&T 3G bandwidth. Check your specs to see if you do have it.
I have recently received a Telus HTC Touch Pro 2 unlocked, running on the Rogers Wireless Network. Everything works accordingly after setting up the network settings, although it does not run in 3G mode. It works fine in EDGE mode, but the speed difference is fairly significant. I have been doing some indepth reading, although I have not been able to come across any answers on how to get the Rogers 3G mode to operate on the Telus version of the TP2. If anyone has any information as to whether or not it is capable of running 3G, and if so how to you enable the 3G capability?
The CDMA TP2 is not compatible with most gsm 3G services. There is no fix it has to do with the hardware radios.
Nope!
No 3g data in GSM mode.
drewcam...horndoc..what's up ! @ the op, as previously stated, no gsm 3g in north america but it's suppose to work in most countries.
I got a Tmobile sensation and I m using in Peru, for some reason the network line is in EDGE, or 2g it is the way we can change, the sim card work in 4g in another phone, some body can help me.
check your network settings and see if your running tmobile. maybe att?
Isnot working
Still under 2g, I read I need do something to activate the 850 HSPA in the cellphone.
Colleagues
Just recently purchased a goophone4GS (iphone clone) and all good so far but I am unable to get Internet connection on it. The WiFi works fine at home but I cannot get any data through my carrier.
I am with OPTUS Australia, the optus people tell me to switch on 3g but the phone is gsm not 3g if that makes any sense.
I am new to smart phones and just must be missing something, any Idea's?
Thanks

GSM and 3g have no.. relation at all. I'm using a GSM phone and it has 3g reception.

Ok I know my phone has no 3G capabilities, so I will go back to the question how do I get Internet? What settings on the phone do I need to activate?
Thanks
To address the above, GSM is '2G' and '3G' usually refers to WCDMA/HSPA. Most newer phones (except the cheap ones) do both, however this particular model is 2G only (which the OP knows ).
I assume this runs Android?
If it does, the APN settings for Optus are what you're missing. Try going into Settings > Wireless and Networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names and hitting the menu button. It will give you the option to make a 'new APN'.
APN settings for Optus can be found here.
Good luck!
I have my wifes Verizon S3 that I updated to jellybean to get global capabilities, then I rooted the phone and was able to set a custom APN.
Im in Costa Rica and using the phone for voice and data. I have both working, however I am not connecting to the 3G network here, only the 2G edge network with slow speeds. My RAZR MAXX is connecting to the 3G HSPDA network just fine and the speeds are actually quite impressive. The APN settings in my RAZR are identical to those in the S3.
Is there a setting somewhere or something that I can do to force the S3 to connect to 3G data and not 2G? Ive check every setting I can find and I see nothing.
Thank you all so much here at xda , you have been an amazing help so far.
Perhaps a custom ROM? Or is there an app that will let me manage the radios/frequencies?
The phone only has one 3G UMTS/HSPA/+ band, and that is 2100 MHz.
It's possible that the network you are using in Costa Rica doesn't support the above band, and your other phone has additional bands that the network does support!
Hello guys,
So I have this problem with my 3G internet on my Nexus 5, there's always the letter "E" next to the network signal, and I noticed that it's veeeeeeeeeeeeeery slow compared to my girlfriend's Nexus 5 (she has an "H" next to network signal) and her 3G works really fast, we're on the same mobile carrier.
I did some research and found this:
g=1g
e=2g
3g=3g
h=3.5g
4g=4g
So it seems that my phone is only using 2G, which is very slow.. And my girlfriend has 3.5G, we have the same phones we bought them at the same time.
Is there some option that I should change so I can use 3.5G as well? I found some tutorials on Samsung phones but I'm totally confused with Lollipop, I can't find those options where you have to enable WCDMA.
Thanks for your help guys, I really need this.
Did you check the APNs?
If you can get Edge, there shouldn't be a problem with APN. Check your mobile network settings. Possibly device is set to use 2G only.
