[Q] Which 4.3 rom are you on? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I am wondering for those who have tried any of the 4.3 rom what has been your experience? what are the major issues you found? what are the features you like best? and lastly, which 4.3 rom you would recommend trying?
Thanks.

Cm 10.2 night lies. Camera works fine now and so does recording. Focal is still bugged. Signal is weak compared to TW.

Im running PA 4.3 3.99 newest build (Link in my sig). Great Dev support and the rom runs fantastic. AOSP is so smooth and the battery life is improved. Its easily a DD. I never thought i'd run an AOSP rom but now I can't go back. The main features I love are the Quick Reply messaging, halo, and all the customization options.
The camera can be a little wonky once in a while, mainly the FFC, but I run the modded AOSP camera with HDR and ext storage with no issues. I read ppl having issues with blue tooth while listening to music but I never use blue tooth so I can't comment on that. Samsung just announced that 4.3 will be coming to the S3 but we havent even gotten 4.2 so I wouldnt hold ur breath.
Check it out for yourself you wont be disappointed.

I thought that too about the signal being weaker but I think its just the way the Rom displays the signal and not the strength itself. It was the first thing I noticed running AOSP for the first time but I have no issues making calls, sending SMS/MMS, or data.

^^
Agree with this guy pa 3.99 is stable for me and the focal camera still has some bugs but it's nice tho and I'm coming from MOAR ROM and I've got to say AOSP is much quicker than touchwiz and I like the HALO

I am sorry but this is just a "What's the best 4.3 ROM" thread
Best ROM threads are not allowed on XDA .
XDA is a development site, not a support site. members are expected to read about the software they are going to drastically alter their $700 device with and make a decision based on their own preferences not others' opinions. There is no BEST as it depends on preference, use, setup, apps, signal, and phone.

Miui rom

I just have to say I am using the newest miui nightly build. It is absolutely amazing I can't get enough of it. It I highly suggest everyone gives it a try.

Same here!
Any issues?
I remember loving miui on my HTC Evo

I used to love to flirt with miui back in my galaxy S running gigerbread but it could never be my daily driver. It would constantly loose data connection, no app drawer so all the apps had to be listed in your home screens and no way to sort them alphabetically automatically... just couldnt do it.
Have all those issues been resolved?

don't know about data loss, i float back and forth between 3g and 4g seeing as i'm in a ****ty area, but there's still no app drawer and no way to sort automatically (at least no way to sort that i've seen, but no app drawer for sure)
Are the same issues present as in the CM10 builds? I am assuming they are.
Can't wait for it to mature a little bit more before trying it out. I am a getting a little too old to flash new roms!

I hope this isn't a dumb question but why would one want to use miui if they weren't going to use the miui launcher? Does the is bringing other things to the table?

There are tons of features in MIUI besides the launcher, I'd suggest you take a look at http://en.miui.com/
Just off the top of my head, things MIUI has that no other rom can match - theming, backup/restore, contacts/sms/dialer, speed, the music player, toggles etc.
I used to swear by MIUI when I had my Evo 4G, by far the most unique and best rom on Android, it replaces so many apps you need to install. I just hope it becomes stable for ICS/JB soon.

exactly...well stated!
So far I'm finding this miui ROM has better 4g data capabilities than any cm ROM that I've tried. I've tested numerous ROMs in an area that has shifting 3/4g and this miui build has the same 4g strength as my Beans tw ROM.

Yes please do tell..... the rom for data switching that I've tested so far has been LiquidSmooth which I'm still using because it gives me waaaaaayyyyy better service than any TW rom. I would love to know which MIUI rom that y'all are using that has such good data switching because the ones ive used are OK but no where near as good as Liquid.

Not sure if that has changed. However, I just created a folder, put all of my less used apps in there then dragged it to the launcher. Voila, app drawer. kind of.
The thread has been locked. Hope it was for a positive reason but there was a bit of non productive postings. Regardless, I've been using it as a daily driver with lightflow to control the LED. Great ROM.

Theres a few minor issues but not enough to keep me away. Lightflow fixes the led issue and some have experienced a power button issue. But no spontaneous reboot or things like that. Data signal is what really rocks.

Keep switching back to more stable touchwiz roms from CM!

Is anyone else having this problem? As much as I love CM10.1 and etc., I keep finding myself going back to say CleanRom. Does anyone have perfect stability on a 10.1 rom? I lose data, then get that fixed. Then I lose GPS. Just a hassle!

I find that TW roms are more stable, and after going from beans b7 to cm10.1 I find cm boring and lacking in many software areas. However, it is still a great ROM just a matter of personal preference

I've been on aosp pretty much from day 1 and don't ever see myself going back. Sure some of the betas and alphas had issues, but I've been on aokp milestone 1 and have 0 issues!! Everything works, and I get over 4 hours of screen time per charge.
Not too mention the unbelievable amount of tweaks that an aosp ROM allows you!!
The only thing I miss is the TW camera, not that the aosp is bad.

Is there a milestone of 4.2.1 from Aokp? I'm on a linario build of cm10 and I must say its really nice. Everything works and the battery is insane. The other day I was at 45% and had 16+ hours. I was not getting that good on any TW ROMs.

I'm just the opposite. I'll try out a TW ROM, here and there, but I always end up going back to Baked BlackBean. I have had no issues regarding data, or GPS, with Baked.
There is a milestone for cm10. The 4.2 ROMs are still in beta mode. I have been running cm10 m1 for weeks and everything works perfectly. Like I said 4+ hours of screen time plus all the customizations make it too hard to go back to anything TW based.

Not trying to be a jerk but when people say everything works perfectly and I go into said ROMs thread only to find bugs it annoys me. Can we please work on stating that "it works perfectly for my needs". Right in the first post it points out to possible issues with GPS, call volume, music players, tethering and bluetooth.

Not trying to be a jerk, but you said it yourself "possible issues" it doesn't mean that everyone will have issues. We all know that ROMs behave differently on different phones. What I stated was accurate. CM10 M1 works on my phone with no issues. GPS, call volume, music player tethering and Bluetooth all work with no issues.

Same with me. CM10.1 is great, but if I need to use my phone in an emergency, I want to know I have a phone to rely on. And tethering doesn't work (At least I think it doesn't work).
no issues with cm10.1 on vzw gs3 but..
I have a rooted vzw gs3 which i ran the stock tw root with 4.2 for awhile, and then switched to cm10.1 and i haven't lost any of the features, but my question is how do we move apps 2 sd in that rom? i have looked and poured over the forums and have found that the devs fixed that , but no guide on how to do it? can anyone help me ?:cyclops:
samsung gs3 rooted running cm10.1
galaxy tab 7.7 rooted with tw for now
retired - original droid, droid x, droid inc, galaxy skyrocket, motorola xoom, galaxy tab 1, and forever rip, ipad and iphone 4s (apple bites!)
I'm sticking to CM10 for now. The 10.1 builds have too many bugs for me. As for right now, I'm pretty happy with CM10.

I may be lucky but I haven't experienced much of the problems people claim in CM10.1. I doubt I'll ever look back at TouchWiz-based roms.
Personally, I've never used CM on any of my devices, I've always used others. For instance, I ran stock unrooted Touchwiz on my S3 for a couple months, then I switched to Liquidsmooth, I had that as my daily driver for at least 6 weeks, but the FC's and data dropouts were too much to bear so I went looking for another ROM, I installed Mean Lean Jellybean Machine Build 4 and loved it, so once Build 5 came out I switched to that, and have been on it ever since! I think I'll be staying on this ROM for awhile.

TouchWiz is actually an awesome oem skin for Android. It gets unfairly attacked because people think AOSP/CM must be better.
My personal experience: after rooting never used cm10.1 went straight to finding a good rom. Used executioner 2.5 liked the feel, speed, and battery life. Felt very stable. Tried cleanrom but started experiencing some bugs, switched quickly. Currently im running superchargedwiz rom kyjelly and it seems very stable i closely compare it to executioner 2.5 although im not getting the same battery life as i was getting on executioner but supercharged is very smooth. If i can figure out ktweakers kernal that came with supercharged, i know its possible to tweak it just right to get the right battery settings. My suggestion if your looking for a good rom to play with try one of these 2.

CM10.1 as a daily driver. Who is pulling this off?

I want to use CM10.1 as a daily driver, but all of the bugs and small nicks make me go back to more developed and stable TW roms. Anyone using 10.1 as a daily? Can you give me your opinions on it? Which rom are you using? What bugs do you notice?
Thank you
996
The in call volume has been fixed for me so I'm going to run it as a daily driver from now on.
Bluetooth audio is still completely broken I hear but it's not something I depend on or use without going out of my way.
Unless some other huge bug manifests, all is going pretty well.
So far there are two main issues that make me consider going back to TW:
1. Sometimes when I interrupt a game from loading, the entire system is laggy as hell until I reboot
2. There is a small delay when answering the phone. I don't know who can hear who during that delay, but its annoying nonetheless.
I'm waiting for the stretched image bug to be fixed on multi-window ROMs before I go back to TW though. It's definitely daily driver worthy.

Been daily on mine since the unofficial cm10 back in August, fine here but maybe I just can't stand TW. Only little issue Ive come across that bothers me is sometimes it will think a short press on menu/home is a long press and have to reboot. Bluetooth audio is fine if you go into the build.prop and modify lpa.decode to false

Been using as daily driver since unofficial cm10, lost IMEI and had some pretty good scares but I have been loving it ever since. I would say the only issue for me right now is the screen flickering which can be somewhat fixed by disabling HW overlay, which does not seem to stick through a reboot.
thank you all for the replies. I was running CM10 for a while, but I just resorted back to TW. I can't wait until all the nicks and bugs get sifted out of 10.1. Pure Google is the way to go.

if you are going to "wait for all the nicks and bugs get sifted out", you might always have a wait. Custom ROMs are just that, custom, and sometimes, what works for one phone won't work for another.
Just pick one that you like the features, and learn work arounds or ignore the "nicks and bugs"
Thanks to all the DEVs! I love waving my modded S3 under everyone running stock and asking why their phones can't do what mine does!

Mastamoon in the official 10.1 thread has been putting out some rocking unofficial builds that contain cherry picks for most of the issues that have annoyed me. I ran liquid's for two weeks or so, but my flashing addiction made me try something else. Went back to AOKP 4.1 but now I'm back on stock TW that I made a few modifications to. I replaced the MMS app and keyboard with AOSP as well as the UI sounds, and I'm fairly content for now. Usually any kind of lags annoys me, but I've found JB Touchwiz to be alright ( I was an avid HTC user prior. Touchwiz is way smoother than Sense.)

I am running the CM 10.1 Official NIGHTLIES. They have been my daily driver since almost beginning of the month. I love CM, but lately it seems they have too much going on. The barely got 4.1 working, and came out with the M2 release, and then moved on to 4.2, which is CM 10.1. I prefer to stay with a dev that will tweak their ROM and stick with it until they get it right. That's why I will not use CM anymore. Unless they have hundreds of devs working constantly to keep up with the number of devices they support, they're eventually going to become a ROM that's unreliable. I hope I wrong, but with the S3 they're clearly not completing one OS before moving to another, which makes them a no go IMO.
Battery life has been absolutely incredible for me on 10.1. 9 hours on battery all on 4G with 20 min screen on at 80%

Just flashed the DarthStalker ROM onto my S3 I've had for about 2 weeks now, it works beautifully, I've gotta say. Super fast, native WiFi hotspot/USB tethering, I would highly recommend at least checking it out.

AOSP & data speeds

So I've been running CleanROM 5.6 for awhile and it hasn't been updated in awhile. I really want to give AOSP a shot but last time I flashed CM10, I had constant data drops, it was actually pretty bad compared to CleanROM. I was hoping to get some opinions on some AOSP ROMs, data stability being top priority. 4.2 would be great, however I'm ok with flashing an earlier release as long as data works as expected. Thanks

Well, I've used both liquid and carbon enough to run through the motions and the winner wound up being carbon. This is purely based on 4G lte speeds in my area (Philly, PA), I'm not saying one is better because they are both equally unique in their own way, I just tend to have a better signal with carbon, battery life and performance was pretty much a wash.
Hopefully this is useful to those in the same boat

4.1 ROM: Jelly 'Beans' - Build 12
4.2 ROM: [OFFICIAL] AOKP | d2vzw | jb-mr1 build 5 -OR- CarbonROM -OR- RootBox
If you want a 4.2 ROM and would like a hybrid, I'd go with PAC-Man ROM

Carbon always worked best for me as well. My signal does seem to be significantly lower and data is slower than on tw roms though. But the AOSP benefits far outweigh the signal hit

I'm currently on Jelly Beans Build 12 and I absolutely love it. I don't know why but everytime I was on AOSP I found myself missing touchwiz. Although I go back and forth between Beans and Liquid. I loved some of the bells and whistles AOSP had but I keep finding myself coming back to Touchwiz. What are your ideas of the benefits that AOSP has. I find myself missing lock screen widgets and a few of the subtle things in the build.

I think AOSP far outweighs touchwiz in every aspect. TW does have some pretty neat features like gestures and popup widows, however AOSP just feels right, not hacked together like TW. Every Android device should come shipped with it. I don't really see the need for TW, Sense, Blur etc, besides corporate branding.. None of them can hold a candle to pure Google Android IMO.

I've noticed ever since going from a TW ROM (CleanROM 5.0) to an AOSP based ROM (Slim ROM, Carbon ROM, LiquidSmooth and currently ParanoidKANDdroid) that the data connection all around seems weaker than the TW based ROMS. For me all the AOSP ROMS mainained the same 4G speed, and had data drops in all the same areas. Some local area where I live I get great service/4g, others I have no 4g at all and am lucky to have any 3g on top of that. Only downside of the aosp based roms

[Q] Should i wait or should i upgrade (S4)

With all the hope we have going for HTC to give us 4.2 i've given it a thought and realized that there has been custom roms with 4.2 for months now. This resulting in hope in HTC lowering every time i hear something "maybe".
So for people who may be in my shoes should we wait for HTC or install a custom rom? (also what is the most stable 4.2 rom since 4.3 is mostly nightlys for now).

I'm running the 4.3 cm10.2 nightly 09 04 and I've not come across any problems it feels rock solid and very fluid
Forget the HTC update I really don't think it's coming but if it does you can always flash back to stock and update to it

But the 3D rendering (in games for exemple) isn't bad compared to the Stock based ROM ? And I heard that the camera delivers bad pictures :/

Asphalt 7 run smoothly ? Well, it's impressive, cause when i tried CM, Dead Trigger were really slow !
But I use every day my camera... I bought the One S for this ! Too bad ^^'
Yeah its shame you cant port HTC camera app over to custom non sense roms
I'm running Odyssey 4.3 and he camera is OK for my needs. Game wise I'm playing asphalt 8 on high quality setting and it's running great. Id go custom if i were you as the official will never catch up.

I just tried the 4.2.2 pac man rom and everything went great except from an occasional screen tear and some of my apps opened but closed shortly after so i'm back on stock. whats the best rom to use camera wise? Willing it give it another go but not really wanting to lose out on the camera. Don't really care about beats audio, find it just ruins the audio.
Also is it normal for your battery to drain fast when first using the roms?

Yes when 1st using the ROM the battery can drain fast; give it a few days to settle, and you will see the battery life willbe great
There is a workaround for screen tearing but I forgot how to do it, since I moved from AOSP roms to Viper a few months ago
The latest 4.2.2 ROM I have used is Illusion; pretty good AOSP rom, I still have a Nandroid backup of it on my SD card
For the camera, well, it's either Sense ROM for a great camera, or AOSP roms for ****ty ones
If you really want AOSP rom with a better cam, check out the 3rd party cameras on Play Store .... IIRC, Zoom Camera FX is pretty good
