About Carbon
CarbonRom is an aftermarket firmware based on the Android Open Source Project. We are dedicated to fast, stable, and feature-filled roms, honesty and communication with our users, and openness with our code. We like frequent builds, with the very latest and greatest hardware support and fixes. We strive to not only provide you with the best rom we can build, but also to give back to the Android community and our fellow developers. For us, this is about creating something we can be proud of and hope you will enjoy.
Please feel free to look at, build, and use our code on CarbonDev GitHub.
We would like to thank CyanogenMod for their device trees, framework/settings mods and their code that was incorporated into this project. We also extend our gratitude to the devs whose code that we have incorporated. Proper authorship has been maintained and can be viewed on our repository.
Special thanks also go to Slim Rom for some of their features, PA, AOKP, and anyone else we may have borrowed commits from that hasn't been mentioned here. If you feel you have been unfairly left out, please - let us know.
While we make every effort to test these builds as much as possible, we are not responsible for anything that may happen to your device, family, pets, or perception of reality. We ask that you do your part to know your device and know how to recover from problems before you flash! If you have questions, ask your fellow users or ask us in #teamcarbon on freenode IRC.
FeaturesSimply stated, we can't really list features here. There are too many and they change too frequently, and we now support a truly insane number of devices. Chances are, if you like a feature, we have it already. Seriously.

Both nightly and release builds are available. Please note that nightlies are for development purposes. This means that they may not work properly, may not flash, may not build for days at a time, and will probably eat your cat. If you flash these, know what you're doing, have backups, and don't complain when something happens. It's on you!

Yes running like a speed demon. A3 is real good stuff. God Dhiru did again an amazing work for us.
Everything is running well, but this naughty TB is not performing well. Restarting itself after doing backup for a while. Same behavior shown in A1, A2. It must be the TB doing something not expected. If I do batch backup of 10-12 files, it works fine. Larger numbers of files say 40, TB restarts in the middle of the backup process. Poor TB. Anybody knows the good medicine for it.
Thanks to God Dhiru and Lola again and again...

Thanks lola but can u make VPN HIDE NINJA work in this rom.

Disclaimer
I'm not responsible for any damages on your device.
After having a good response for some months in the i9100 thread, @fusionjack decided to share this build with n7000. And now I build it for Samsung Galaxy S 4G a.k.a galaxys4gmtd.
This build is compiled using SaberMod toolchain and like the official one, it is built derived from the same source: Slimroms github. @fusionjack could cherry-pick some commits ahead from Slim team or patches from other repositories that he finds useful.
The ROM and the kernel are tested by me first before I make it available online. I could have overseen something during testing, please be understand.
In summary, it is still Slimkat that is compiled with SaberMod toolchain.
!!! Please don't discuss these unofficial builds in the official thread. User can get confuse easily. !!!
Additional changes
Compiled with a custom toolchain Sabermod for more performance and better battery life.
Compiled with the most GCC optimization level -O3.
Compiled with strict-aliasing compiler optimization.
Added 40+ patches to fix GCC strict-aliasing violation rules.
Added ARMv7 and Cortex-A8 optimized string handling routines for more smoothness and more memory optimization.
Added some AOSP fixes and improvements.
Added some VanirAOSP fixes and improvements.
Added patches from AOSP for better ART performance.
Added Active Display and Network Usage from ChameleonOS. Not yet available on kitkat.
Disabled SQLite fsync to increase I/O performance.
Installation instructions
Coming from 4.1.x or 4.2.x or 4.3.x or another ROM to 4.4.x:

OK, this is what is working for me to go to/from Team Acid CM9 and has been pretty reliable so far:
Make sure you have backups of /efs put away somewhere safe!
From JB or ICS (make full backups first, at least TWRP and hopefully Titanium Backup or equivalent as well)
Reboot recovery
Install this ROM
Reboot recovery
Advanced Wipe; /system, /data, /cache
Install this ROM - again
Make TWRP backups
Reboot
Once you have TWRP backups of your "target" build, you can flip/flop reasonably easily
Reboot recovery
Restore TWRP backup of Boot of target build
Reboot recovery
Advanced Wipe; /system, /data, /cache
Restore TWRP backups of target build
Boot into target
This should work as long as /efs and /radio haven't moved.

Wipe cache and dalvik cache.
Flash the unofficial build.
No need to re-flash gapps. Gapps will be restored back automatically by backup tool during flashing.
Known Issues
Booting into ART mode takes time, be patient. As some users reported, ART won't work if you are using xposed framework. See xposed thread for more information.

Help!!! Root doesn't work!!! What should I do???
From a clean build you need to enable root access for Superuser itself. This is different from 4.2.2 in which Superuser by default had root access on a new install. To do this, go to Settings -> Developer options -> Root access. If an app attempts to request root access before Superuser itself has access, it may cause problems with that app in the future where root requests are silently denied.

What is the difference between these builds and the official builds?
Short version: It is unofficial nightly builds whereas official one is stable and weekly builds.
Long version: It is built using the same source (github) like the official one but with these following additional changes:
Compiled using SaberMod 4.9 & SaberMod 4.7 toolchain combo.
Contains some cherry-pick commits. See changelog for more details.
Faster? Smoother? Here are some responses from users: rkoby13, rkoby13, rkoby13, kroz, MarioFan1998, alkspo, vladimirheroj, bodzik155
What is Toolchain?
In software, a toolchain is the set of programming tools that are used to create a product (typically another computer program or system of programs). The tools may be used in a chain, so that the output of each tool becomes the input for the next, but the term is used widely to refer to any set of linked development tools.
A simple software development toolchain consists of a compiler and linker to transform the source code into an executable program, libraries to provide interfaces to the operating system, and a debugger. A complex product such as a video game needs tools for preparing sound effects, music, textures, 3-dimensional models, and animations, and further tools for combining these resources into the finished product.

What is SaberMod?
The term "SaberMod" is coming from:
SaberMod is a AOSP based ROM with some extra features added in and mostly from CyanogenMod. SaberMod started out pure AOSP when android 4.2.1 launched. Originally it was pure AOSP with a few extra features I ported over from CyanogeMod and linaro optimizations. Then I rebased everything off of rasbeanjelly because I liked many features found in rasbean. Since then I've modified a lot of the code so not much of it is rasbeanjelly based anymore. But you will still find some commonly used features found in rasbeanjelly. SaberMod is not a rasbeanjelly or CM clone, or KANG. Custom kernels are included for certain devices when available. These are personal builds we make for ourselves and originally became very popular in the nexus 7 forums. Features are very rarely added, and are built to SaberMod's team members liking. Currently there are two members of SaberMod working on this project. Myself and @jarjar124 . Please understand our time is limited and we are only two people who have lives, and do not have 25-50 members like CyanogenMod to add things. And our goal is not to add a bunch of features that bloat the system of the ROM.

I haven't had any reboot/soft reboot or freeze on my Mom's phone and ART is working more superb and conversion time is faster than the Official build ^^. No camera whacky, no severe problem so far. Anyone can, just try to reproduce the issues tho and I want to know if they'r gone or not, too. Just backup and flash it .
BTW, even if it doesn't have or has those issues, I will still close the other thread and maintain this only cause this is built with Linaro/SaberMod plus has various of patches for ART compares to official one so just build this only as well to save my time and resources.

While I moved to the Note 3 as my main phone a few months ago, I'm keeping around the GSG4G as a music player. Just flashed this and while I'm having the usual "Why do you do this to me! I have no space!" issues right after flashing due to Google wanting to restore 100 apps or so, I haven't had any other issues yet.
Thanks for keeping this phone awesome.

Thanks man! And since Slim hasn't released their inverted gapps so I would recommend using gapps core as it's ok to flash . Ok so if this is stable enough, next stop is trying to fix video playback (idk what is the cause for this) and better entropy tweaks enabling in kernel . There is also an advance option in settings>storage for switching/swapping the internal and external but it's FC on our phone so let's see what I can do about it

As per usual, Mounts2SD still works great with this. Just wondering... when the switching causes the FCs, do you have the sd-ext formatted in a way that would work with Mounts2SD or another similar program?

Dao, I gave up on ART as the space limitation simply would not work with the apps I wanted to install, and that I use regularly, even moving everything I could to the SD Card. That said, Dalvik Mode seems to be working just as fast as ART, and not had a single reboot related crash as best I can tell after pretty heavy use for 24 hours. Thanks for the awesome work! I even installed Xposed Framewwork and have not seen any issues. Fingers crossed, but am thinking you can call the reboot issue fixed.

Special thanks also go to Slim Rom for some of their features, AOKP, and anyone else we may have borrowed commits from that hasn’t been mentioned here. If you feel you have been unfairly left out, please – let us know.
Features:
Even though Carbon keeps a very stock AOSP look overall, it is still PACKED with additional features that you can enable as you please. There are honestly way too many features to list, but we have the main features highlighted in some snazzy gifs presented below. Under 'Screenies'

This rom is a BEAAST...no doubt about that....
But a few pointers...
> Battery is great on standby.....a full night with gsm on ...drain was 0.9% per hour , But as this ROM uses JBX...the device gets heated up and battery starts draining faster when i play casual games for 5 mins or even browse over wifi for 5-10 mins...
This issue has been persistent on me whenever i go to a JBX based ROM.....I dont face any kind of issue on the CM11 REMIX V2.9.3 by acezofzeros...its JBX definitely... @Uzayr , can we have a CM kernel based CARBON ROM anytime you feel its convinient to your tight schedule ?? ......u can take as much time you want....but i m sure CArbon on a CM kernel will be very very nice indeed
And again tanks for BRINGING CARBON to us....
and i am gonna use this CARBON anyway despite JBX heating issues...

i never had luck with jbx myself :crying:
alrighty...from the next build on...gonna revert back to altered's kernel.
thanks for the feedback

I mean the device is supper snappy with JBX.,...no doubt...
But altere's CM kernel is overall a lot stable......thanks for considering...Cheers mate
looks really promising I'm going to flash it now and compare it with SlimKat.
EDIT: Carbon has a strange bug...when I lock the screen "screen off" a small red light is constantly open next to the proximity sensor? this light only when we make a call but in carbon it lights all the time when screen is off.
AT&T
Hi, will this rom work on my AT&T model?
Thank you.
sorry for inconvenience but what does "dmroeder" mean? I also saw it in the kernel description?
You download my source build that I've been testing. I'm guessing you went to the dmroeder folder and download one of those. This is not the one intended to be used
edit: I deleted that folder to save confusion. Sorry about that, I should have named the folder "DoNotDownload"!

This rom was compiled by me, Scott.Hart.bti has done the real work!
I am proud to present to you BeanStalk Builds put together by myself. This is a build composed off of the CM builds and i have added alot of features on top of it. So you get speed, stability, and ultra customization ability. Many of the additional code additions came from slim ROM and also Derteufels build and have been modified to work with my current setup. A huge thanks to Derteufel and the Slim ROM guys for their work and dedication. Also a big thanks to everyone involved with CM as that is the building stone in this project. Thanks to skyliner33v for the bootanimation and upcoming wallpapers!
I plan on updating this and adding features on a pretty regular basis, so if you happen to like this, keep checking back.

***Please keep in mind that this is the initial release and bugs are to be expected. I am working on this myself and do not have a team that is helping me. Before reporting bugs, please make sure you verify everything on your end and make sure you do a full wipe and format first to make sure it is a legitimate issue. Im going to say this once and only once... I am doing this for fun. It is my CHOICE to share my work with everyone. If you decide that you do not like my work, good for you.. Move on and flash something else. I will not tolerate ungrateful people in my thread.***
How to install :
Use TWRP. with new partition
Warning: Only use this recovery to flash New build with new partitio layout.0. Otherwise, you risk bricking your phone, or you might experience boot and stability issues!
Wipe data and cache.
Format /system (only first time coning from older recovery)
Format /data and /data/media (only first time coning from older recovery)
Flash update*.zip.
Flash gapps*.zip. You must flash gapps after every upgrade the since /system is formatted, wiping your previous add-ons.
Reboot phone.
After you setup your Google account, reinstall the three apps from Market in order to restore most of your apps, call log and SMS history.
Warning: Do not restore backup data of system apps!
If you restore a bad backup with cached settings in telephony.db in data/data/com.*.*.telephony it can break MMS.
It seems that restoring backups can also break Calendar sync.

First of all thanks for providing us your awesome work for this old device. I would like to ask cause i am a bit confused witch recovery we have to install and if it is twrp can you provide an other link cause the one you have is an .exe file and it is full of bloat. If it is just cwm then it is really easy to find here on xda. Again thanks for your work, i would like to see my old phone be updated to the latest android version. Thanks in advance.

What is AICP?
AICP is known by someone as Ice Cold Project that started on Desire HD and since than evolved as a mature rom with the BEST community you can find!!!
Rom has always been AOKP based so expect all AOKP goodies + new additions.
If there are any bugs, either we will sort them or AOKP team if it conserns their modifications. This rom isn't AOKP supported so no need to report errors or bugs to them!!

ROMS
ROMS should contain everything you need to enjoy JB. You are not required to install any Add Ons, simply download the latest ROM, gapps, flash it, and go!
You are STRONGLY recommended to fully wipe your device before flashing, and if possible avoid restoring system apps and system data with Titanium Backup - these can cause stability issues that are very hard to debug. If you believe you know what you're doing - then fine, go ahead, but please don't complain if you experience strange behavior.

Question: which the three app You are talking about?
And yes, tha main Question: is it supposed to be that device is initially booting for 20 minutes!? More of that - the screen goes just BLACK after that and the only thing You can see touching screen is two icons in status bar
Excuse me, I am the very first time flashing lollipop ROM on i9001 but I flashed ROMs before for hundreds times and never saw such a long first boot and such a slow work afterwards. It looks like the CPU speed is about 100 MHz.
IS it something wrong with your ROM? Or is it normal for lollipop?
thnx

But with AICP lolipop I was unable to get it through the first setup, neither with updated or older version.

Congratulations masters,
generally all O.K. while not installed gapps.......
the system is stable,
opening applications a little late, small black screan, all in all satisfactorily ,charged battery shows 99%,
wi-fi and web browser super, aicp interface cool,......even enough for daily use.
But after installing gapps starting problems....
installation and opening of the debt, braking, freezing, device battery is quickly consumed, simply Not for use,
for mi LiquidSmooth V4 in the first place (for PIE), then crDroid, then Acid, then Resurrection Remix.....
I know there are still a lot of work....

Resurrection Remix G+
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm building Resurrection Remix for myself now and thought I'd share it for those flashaholics that just need that 'one more' ROM
Now that I've been building this for a little while, I'm in the process of trying to get approved as the new official maintainer for this device. I'm now tha guy.
This is intended to be a vanilla build without any changes from the default though I do have intentions of making my own minor tweaks down the track.
I hope to provide fairly regular updates to builds with the latest repos.
ROM includes Magisk Manager & root so if you want to flash an alternative, you'll need to flash the magisk remove tools beforehand.
OTA has also been implemented but the first Official build will need to be flashed to be able to be notified of future OTA updates.
As usual, any bad flashes are not my responsibility if anything goes wrong with your device.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Install instructions coming from a different ROM (ie. TouchWiz\LineageOS\MIUI etc...):
1. Download ROM, GApps & favoured root method (Magisk / SuperSU)
2. Do full backup in recovery and Internal\SD Card data (at your own risk if you don't)
3. Full Wipe (Caches (Dalvik & Cache), System, Data(Wiping DATA will clear your Apps & App Data - BEWARE!))
4. Install ROM followed by GAPPS & ROOT method.
5. REBOOT!!
Install instructions for updating from an earlier version of this ROM:
1. Download ROM & GApps(if flashing newer gapps).
2. Do full backup in recovery (at your own risk if you don't)
3. Dirty Wipe (Caches (Dalvik & Cache), System)
4. Install ROM followed by GAPPS. (Root should be retained but reflash root zip if necessary)
5. REBOOT!!
Links:
UPDATE: I've made the ROM rootless despite the poll numbers. Found that users were experiencing issues. It should be easier if people flash Magisk/SuperSU separately.
AFH - HLTE - 13/03/2018
AFH - HLTETMO (SM-N900T, SM-N900V, SM-N900W8) - 13/03/2018
AFH - HLTECHN (SM-N9008V etc...) - 13/03/2018
(I only have the HLTE variant so I cannot test HLTETMO or HLTECHN builds. Any attempted fixes will also only be purely speculative until confirmed by users)
(Also, Sprint users should be able to flash the HLTE build going by some reports from users)
Sprint support has officially been removed from the device trees (Sorry!)
GAPPS
Magisk / SuperSU
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Known device specific issues:
* Night Light feature not working due to supporting Live Display
* Camera Panorama mode crash when processing image - should be fixed in build 17-09-2017
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Confirmed working on my n9005:
*WiFi (possibly not the wifi disconnect when asleep issue)
*GPS (works personally, others reporting different)
*Ext sd card
*Rotation (not sure of weird glitch with some apps - I haven't experienced this for a fair while)
*Auto brightness/brightness adjust
*Bluetooth
*Infrared
*Camera switch rear to front - no delay
UPDATED INSTRUCTIONS:
If you experience your SIM not being detected from build 9/7 & onwards it will be because of changes to the HLTE repo device trees in Github and you WILL need to update your Bootloader/Modem to correct it.
Follow @StockholmSyndrome's instructions below. Thanks @StockholmSyndrome
Updated: Specifically for N9005\HLTE models, use the Nordic baseband uploaded by @svbarbosa
to get a very good GPS lock speed instead of the one linked in the below instructions.
His thread is HERE if you would like to also read about other ways to improve your experience or:

Once again, I updated and clarified the instructions.
Thing is, only with baseband update the SIM card will work.
Here are my instructions, feel free to copy&paste them as you like:
1.) Download the latest baseband that matches your phone (duh):
for N9005: vidwhal: Recommended links are in the above text for n9005\hlte
for N900W8: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=673368273298969743
for N900T: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=673368273298969970
2.) Download a copy of Odin (3.12.x): http://dl.sammobile.com/Odin3-v3.12.7.zip
3.) Power down your phone completely, take out the battery for a few seconds
4.) Go into download mode by pressing Volume-Down + Home + Power simultaneously for several seconds
5.) Connect phone via USB cable until Odin says "Added"
6.) Click on "Options" and uncheck "Auto-Reboot", then load your Baseband file (_Baseband_Firmware.tar .md5) into the "AP" slot
7.) "Start"
8.) Wait for success and green light
9.) Unplug USB cable, reboot phone by holding down Power button
You are now clear to install the latest official LineageOS\RR for your Note 3!

would you like to build RR roms for hltespr?
I cannot find much hltespr lineage/RR rom.
thanks for the ROM mate, but can you try to port paranoid that was released yesterday for our device ?
what the difference between this and traders version

@vidwhal will download today and give a try for sure.
Thanks for your efforts.

Biggest difference would be Trader is using their kernel sources. I'm building directly from RR\Lineage repos but since Trader is now official, there may not be much difference at all with the kernel after all
I'm hoping to do fairly regular builds though so it may (or may not) be more frequent than what either Trader (or Lord Eko for that matter) is willing to output.
This is also for my benefit to understand the process more thoroughly with regards to building, and possibly later with actual development.

I saw that too and yes, I'm entertaining the idea of doing that

1, Its very easy to comment on any dev, but its far more difficult to fold your sleeves and build one yourself.
2, Android is an open source community. If one dev picks-up any rom and develop/maintains it, whats wrong? If you dont know thats what open source community philosophy is based on and thats keep development non-stop! What is the point of reinventing the wheel?

Dude, again, wasn't having a go ?? but those code bases have been around for a while, Trader wasn't the lone dev involved with those projects (though I'm sure they've made their valuable contributions themselves), but way to go for misinterpreting my intention with my post *sigh*
