[Q]Unable to boot to CWM Recovery or Boot Menu - Acer Iconia A700 and A510

When I try to reboot to the ClockworkMod Recovery using both in-system methods (ROM Manager, etc.), or using the volume buttons, it only boots to the Acer screen with Entering recovery image kernel or Entering boot menu mode. After that, the screen hangs there, doing nothing. I'm sure the solution is out there somewhere, but I haven't found it. Also, I cannot get adb or fastboot to work from a Windows 7 64-bit command line. I did install a few things from the Android SDK, but I'm not sure if I installed everything I need.
Any help? I'm looking to upgrade my CyanogenMod 10.1 to the latest stable build, but I'm unable to do that until this problem is solved.
Thanks!

is it possible you try the connection on a linux maschine? (ubunty/mint) you should be able to issue "fastboot devices".
Sometimes Win7 is sluggish.
Also have you tried the resetbutton and then boot to fastboot?

I don't have any Linux machines to boot to, although I suppose I could try a Live CD. I've tried getting to fastboot using every method available, but I still haven't had any luck.

keep in mind then that you need to install adb and fastboot from the packetmanager. but i for one do my adb/fastboot from my linux mint since i dont need to hassle with the drivers for my devices anymore

I'll try it from Linux, then. I'll report back with my findings.

Which version of CWM are you using?
Latest versions don't work (stuck on the boot screen page).
You should use version 6.0.2.3 or previuos versions.

Sorry, I haven't been to the thread in awhile, I've been busy with stuff. XD
I haven't tried what was suggested yet, and 6.0.2.3 doesn't work for me either.

Fantastic!
After installing the packages (I had to find the .deb packages myself, as the Terminal wasn't finding them), I was able to detect the device in Ubuntu 13.04 i386. Furthermore, I was able to reinstall the CWM Recovery from the CyanogenMod Wiki for this device. I fastboot'd into the Bootloader, flashed the recovery, then "adb reboot recovery", and there's the recovery menu! Thanks for your help everyone!

[Q] TWRP problem

I want to root my tablet so I flashed TWRP 2.6.0.0 using fastboot everything works fine.
But now I want to install the zip to root the tablet, problem is TWRP cannot mount any storage, internal sdcard external sdcard nothing at all is alway says E:Can't mount 'xxx' on anything I tap.
I tried CWM, and 2.5.0.0 and nothing seems to work.
I can boot fine in the stock OS, everything works fine but that
My bootloader is 10.6.1.27.1-20130711
Can anyone help me?
Ok now it is bad, I tried to factory reset using the bootloader (power + volume down)
It booted in the buged TWRP and now it keeps booting in TWRP and I cannot even reach the bootloader
Try using adb commands to boot into bootloader.
ADB reboot-bootloader is the command that I think you must use. Of course, use adb devices to see if your tab is listed.

I cannot get this to work on Windows 8, I have Asus Transformer ADB interface lister in device manager but I cannot see my device with the adb devices command.
Also, in TWRP when I try adb sideload it says failed.
win 8 is the worst OS you want to use when it comes to fastboot/adb (even with secpol.msc full admin access)
get your hands on a win7 / vista /xp
oh and TWRP2.6 is kinda bugged - flash 2.5 or lower
check this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44244313&postcount=12 but skip the steps you dont need (system, data userdata etc.)

I'm now on my laptop with Win7,
Ok so I tried to reset my device with a needle, but I cannot get it to the bootloader.
Still stuck in TWRP, I tried to go with ADB, I installer google usb driver from Android SDK, I cannot get it to be recognized by ADB, in the device manager I only see Transformer with a yellow "!", I tried with the Asus usb driver, nothing either.
Is there something else I can do to get this recognized with ADB? (fastboot doesn't work either)
I tried unpluging all, uninstalling all and reinstalling like 3 times.
Thanks for your help

fastboot should work. hold Vol-down and reset the device and keep vol-down pressed. it should go to fastboot. when you're in fastboot connect it to your laptop and see if the OS recognized your device - if not you have a driver issue. resolve that by installing the asus driver or the newest google generic drivers.
when you can see your device on dosprompt/powershel with fastboot devices then continue with getting recovery to work.
btw- stuck in twrp means? booting twrp (teamwin screen) but not responding?
good luck

can you boot into twrp? and i mean just boot into it? so that you see install, backup, restore etc. buttons?
if yes - twrp has an adb mode
connect your tab in twrp to your pc (check that you can see it - adb devices) if yes type: adb reboot bootloader
and you should boot into that. test it with fastboot devices.
most important thing is that you get into fastboot or a working recovery to flash or prepare to flash a (custom) rom back onto your device.

yes i read your posts - but im still unclear what you are trying to accomplish with sideload?
ok from the start:
when in twrp - connect your tab to your laptop - is windows working with it (drivers ok?) "adb devices" shows the device? if yes - adb reboot-bootloader (or fastboot reboot bootloader, not quite sure atm since i'm at work without micro usb cable) when issued the command is the tab rebooting? - and if yes, is it rebooting into twrp or fastboot? what screen is shown after that?

when its connected - is device manager at least showing it as faulty or not at all? (yellow triangle exclamation mark thingy, i just installed asus on my VM) -> see attached file
UPDATE: I succeeded to go in fastboot mode
I couldn't get my tab to be recognized by windows so I installer my Nexus 4 using the toolkit, when it was succesfully installed I could manually install my tab since the "android devices" option appeared in the list when you want to manually install a driver in the devices manager. So I could choose Asus ADB interface.
Now I can boot into Android, but it will go into TWRP as soon as I restart my tablet.
Now I will try the link you sent me to get TWRP recognize my storage so I can flash a new rom, I will let you know if something go wrong.
Thanks for helping

[Q] Can't mount partitions after installing WTRP.

Hi everyone,
I was hoping someone might have some advise for me to try. I did the following and now I can't seem to boot the ROM I installed and/or load the partitions to wipe them. TWRP is asking for a password (which I just cancel) and then it can't mount the partitions. Here is what I did.
unpacked the tablet and started it up. Put my Wi-Fi and google account on it and updated the firmware.
I then downloaded the ASUS unlock application and unlocked my bootloader. It shows as unlocked now when starting up.
I installed TWRP (Latest version) via fastboot.
I created a backup with TWRP.
I installed a custom ROM.
Restarted
System not booting. I attempted to recover from backup and/or wipe the partitions and it won't mount them. also TWRP asks for a password and I just cancel out of it. I believe you know the symptoms.
I then read that maybe an older version of TWRP would work. I tried 2.3.3.0 I believe and it had the exact same affect. I installed it via fastboot as well.
Any advise would be appreciated. Thank you. The custom ROM I installed has a filename of cm-4.4.2-20131226-cmb4. I think it's a CM mod file. Thanks so much for your time. Someone is helping me on the side via PM, if I get anywhere with that, I'll post the resolution here.

The file cm-4.4.2-20131226-cmb4 is for Verizon HTC One only and not for the ASUS TF700T.
You must download the CM from this site: Link
I run my TF700T with CM11 (nightly build) and with TWRP 2.6.3.2.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for the reply but the ROM I used is indeed for the TF700T mode. The exact filename is cm-4.4.2-20131226-cmb4.4-tf700t-rc3.zip. As you can see my device model is in the filename. I also only downloaded ROMS that are form this forum (TF700.) Any suggestions?

That is a rom based on CM11 kitkat. Did you read the requirements (which the cmb creators unfortunately just touch upon in their op) before you flashed it?
The CM11 OP states that you have to be on 10.16.1.14.x bootloader and CWM 6.0.4.4 as a recovery.
It also clearly states that TWRP has problems with KitKat. Supposedly the latest TWRP version works, but to my knowledge that is not confirmed. Don't know what TWRP version you initially flashed, but then you flashed one that's totally outdated and possibly not even compatible with your bootloader.....
I hope you still have access to fastboot.... download CWM 6.0.4.4. and flash it. Then try to flash the rom again.
But check your bootloader version first!

Now I can't seem to erase certain partitions or write to system...
Hi everyone,
So, I tried to erase all partitions using fastboot and then install the asus firmware blob back on my system to see if I can get it back to where it was. At this point I can't seem to write to the system partition. I get a failed error on fastboot and a failed command error on my tablet. Any suggestions? Is there any way to install a bootloader with fastboot? I suspect it's the bootloader as it is still ASUS's stock bootloader. I would like to change it to something that may be able to write and wipe the partitions properly using CWM or something similar. Please advise, I'm running out of options here. I'd hate to think I bricked my first device ever... thanks so much for your time. Cheers.

You do have fastboot access? If you enter
Code:
fastboot devices
in the cmd prompt, does it return the serial number of your device.
If not, you may have a driver problem on your PC.
The only method I know of to get a bootloader via fastboot is to flash the system blob, but you seem to have tried that already. The question is: How?
Please post the commands you used and the output you get back.
You also may want to look at buster99's method:

I've installed fastboot on two separate systems (both windows 8.1 64-bit) and both have drivers installed (device manager shows it installed fine.) Since I started using fastboot it simply shows a ? instead of my device's serial number. Could this be the issue from the start? I was able to install TWRP with it, so I assumed it worked. * Sigh * I should know better. (I kept moving forward once I saw TWRP installed) Would it surprise you to know I'm a network engineer?
I put up a windows 7 system at this point to see if I have a better time with fastboot and the drivers simply aren't recognized, even when I install the asus software that has the drivers (Asus pad pc suite.)
How can I get just the raw drivers for my system to use with fastboot? Either for Windows 8 or 7. Any help would be appreciated, thank you for your time.

Ain't computers great? If you are a network engineer you should be used to this! LOL!
On Win 8 there's some nasty stuff where you have to turn off "windows driver verification" or some such in system settings - just google "Windows 8 fastboot" and you should find the necessary steps.
The attached drivers work fine for me with Win 7 (forgot which one's I installed). Try the Universal Naked Drivers first and uninstall the ones you have now prior to installing these.
But one thing is for sure: ? is not an acceptable return for "fastboot devices"
Edit: XDA won't let me upload the Google Universal Naked Drivers, so download them from here:

I would try these first, then the adb recovery driver I attached as a zip

Hi, so I installed the naked drivers and they seemed to work. Once that was done, I used fastboot devices and got a questionmark again. Please keep in mind that since the tablet was out of the box, I have only seen a ?. I don't believe that this issue is related to the other only because it's been consistently ? the whole time, across 3 workstations. I can now erase the system partition but can't seem to write to it. I guess it would help to resolve the drivers issue but I am not sure how. Naked drivers are installed. commands like erase and reboot tend to work properly. write worked the first time as well but since then I cannot write to certain partitions. Any ideas how I might resolve the ? issue in fastboot devices?

Since then I've tried this:
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase misc
fastboot erase cache
fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash system blob (blob was in same directory as fastboot and I got it form the latest asus firmware zip file) <-- Failed It sends the data okay but fails to write to the disc. Error on ASUS tablet in red also confirms the command write:system failed and gives a memory address.
fastboot -i 0x0B05 reboot
Please note that some of the erase commands simply hung. I had to restart the tablet to go back into fastboot mode. When I restart it sometimes they erase successfully. Not sure why. I know I couldn't erase userdata at all, and recently tried again and it worked.
I now have a copy of Mint Linux 32-bit ready to go. What should I try?

Done. I have mint installed on an x86 system. No VM. I figured why risk it. What can I do from here? Install fastboot and try again from this platform? Do I need to install drivers for my tablet? If so, manufactureres website best ones to use? I'm ready to do this... and praying...

Open a terminal window and type fastboot, it will not be installed but it will prompt you how to get it...do the same for adb just type adb and will prompt..... Than boot your tablet into fastboot.... Connect it to your mint pc and type fastboot devices see what it says......
Just to clarify you do have a unlocked bootloader, yes??
EDIT TYPE----- sudo fastboot devices

So, I installed fastboot and ADB and installed all updates on the OS for kicks. Then tried the fastboot devices command and I recieved:
Code:
[email protected] ~ $ fastboot devices
no permissions fastboot
[email protected] ~ $ sudo fastboot devices
[sudo] password for amascolo:
???????????? fastboot
[email protected] ~ $
...? Still no serial number. I've seen this since I took it out of the box. Not sure what that is all about, I have found no one else with this issue. I'm going to try to flsh and I'll let you know what happens.
-Tony
UPDATE: I have tried to re-flash the damn thing and it still fails. Here is what I see...
Code:
[email protected] / $ sudo fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash staging /home/amascolo/Desktop/blob
sending 'staging' (800927 KB)...
OKAY [135.763s]
writing 'staging'...
FAILED (remote: ()
finished. total time: 136.934s
[email protected] / $
Any ideas fellas? Seems I simply am not able to write to the system partition again.

* SIGH *
Anyone have any ideas as to why I can't write to my device? Any ideas as to what I may try? Please advise, I'm not looking forward to throwing this thing away. Cheers.

TF300t constantly booting into recovery

I have a TF300t that I have been doing custom ROMs on for over a year now. Not to long ago it messed up and I ended up doing a ADB side load of the the current software from ASUS to recover it. I wanted to try CM11 so I followed the directions to get the right version of TWRP installed. I noticed that it was really slow at stuff like wiping cache and dalvik, so I decided to reflash TWRP through ADB instead of a zip file.
All went well and I got into android and went into TWRP to see if everything went okay. I'm in TWRP, but I cannot do anything. Only system will mount and it says I am not rooted and wants to install supersu. If I reboot or power off it just goes back into recovery. Doing the power + vol down will not get me into the bootloader and will instead just power cycle at the ASUS logo.
Any idea on how to fix this, or did I just royally brick my tablet?

When you first reboot back into TWRP, try running fastboot commands. You may be able to reflash your recovery, or follow Buster's recovery method from there on.

I just get stuck at waiting for device. Is there a section I am supposed to be in? Or do I do it from the home screen for twrp? I checked device manager and it does have Transformer listed in other devices.

Use the reset pin on the SD card side and then reboot back into TWRP and try with "fastboot devices"

As in the command:
Code:
fastboot devices
Else you could try:
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
from the ADB in TWRP and then try fastboot commands.

It's not finding anything and ADB sideload fails. I'm doing the fastboot commands from the fastboot folder I have been using with other fastboot stuff for the TF300.

hmm idk. Im guessing you flashed the wrong version of TWRP, which has ended up in a brick for most users, but they had fastboot access and could later recover it using this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44244313&postcount=12. You dont seem to have either ADB or fastboot, and TWRP is in a non working state. You could try reinstalling your fastboot and ADB drivers with the universal naked drivers, and then retrying ADB reboot bootloader and fastboot.
All fixed!
Here is what I did.
1.) Installed naked drivers following the guide at the link provided above. This allowed me to get into the bootloader, but I was unable to successfully flash anything.
2.) So, I followed this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44244313&postcount=12
Probably lost all my user data, but worth it for a working tablet.
HUGE thanks to cmendonc2 for the help and ultimately leading me to the correct solution.

Oneplus One stuck on boot screen (Cyanogen and Lineage)

Good morning everyone,
Last week end I tried to install Lineage on my Oneplus One but from that moment my device stuck on the boot screen.
To correct that, I tried many things I found on different forum but the problem remains.
I installed Lineage (lineage-14.1-20170327-nightly-bacon-signed.zip) with the bootloader unlocked with TWRP (twrp-3.1.0-0-bacon.img) by the Install mode and by ADB Sideload, with or without the different kind of wipe, with or without SuperSU (V2.79) but the result is the same.
I also reinstalled Cyanogen (cm-13.1.2-ZNH2KAS3P0-bacon-signed-fastboot.zip) by terminal commands but I stuck on CM boot screen.
I’m using Ubuntu Linux operating system with the android-tools package installed but I also tried with Windows and the toolkit.
If someone can help me, I don’t know what to try now…
Thank you

Try this, make sure you use XP system to avoid driver issue. This tool doesn't use fastboot and instead uses Usb debugging port.

Thank you.
The little problem is that I use only Ubuntu at home. It's more complicated for me with Windows but I'll try.
Is this operation possible with files and terminal commands (fastboot flash) ?

Nope,as I said it doesn't use fastboot.A Xp system is must.I don't think it takes long to dual boot windows alongside Ubuntu.

Trying to flash TWRP Recovery image & Root G8142 on Ubuntu - Need Help

Hi All,
I had a previously rooted 8142, but it crapped out on me last week, so I've just bought a new one. I'm trying to root it now. I've unlocked bootloader, and installed the TWRP app, but I can't figure out how to root it.
I was running windows and used Xperifix when I did my last one, but now I'm using Ubuntu, and there's not really any software (like Xperifix or One Click Root) available.
I've been using FlashTool, and can get it to show root privelages, but I have no idea how to flash a recovery image using it.
I tried using Platform Tools via the terminal and I think I was able to flash a TWRP recovery image to the device, but the TWRP app isn't seeing it, nor can I boot into recovery mode.
I tried to download a recovery image via the TWRP app, but even when it's downloaded, the TWRP app isn't finding any recovery images despite pointing the app to my downloads folder.
TWRP is also showing "No Root Permissions"
I can't flash SuperSu or any other ROM's without being able to boot into TWRP recovery menu.
Maybe I'll have to install windows to use the rooting software. Does anyone have any ideas? Been messing around with it 6 hours now and still can't boot into recovery.
Thanks for any ideas.
first I dont know if youre using fastboot so do "sudo apt install android-tools-adb android-tools-fastboot" then open a terminal were twrp is located and type fastboot flash recovery "name of twrp".img and then you are ready to go. I dont know if you can use this phone without a specific driver so that can be a problem. If you cant do it that way i recommend you using a virtual machine with windows and run fastboot (platform tools trough there) so you dont have to remove ubuntu.
Also remember how to access fastboot

well i forgot to mention, the fastboot flash recovery command depends on your android version so take that in count.
