[Q] TF101 lost sound. Using KatKiss-4.3 - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello All,
I want to raise a question here because I don't seem to find any help about it.
I am using a nice TF101 tablet with great joy. Now with less as yesterday while watching youtube the sound has gone and did not return after a reboot or using the DSP Reinit in the Kat Tools.
Now this has happened with me already a week before. Then I was using Jousteink's unofficial room. Then I've changed to KatKiss 4.2.2 and the sound reappeared again. Later to give it a whirl I have then upgraded to KatKiss 4.3 and everything was wokring like charm for 3 days then the sound went to Honolulu again.
Does anyone have any idea how can I get the sound working again or what can be the cause? Or simple share the same experience?
Thanks for the help.

Hate to ask, but is your volume up?
I had issues with the hangouts/talk notifications muting my volume when using the cascade option in the KAT tool.

So, you are saying that the sound works sometimes and then cuts out. Intermittently? Maybe hardware related - but I'd leave a proper diagnosis to the experts here.
I know that I have the volume toolkit installed on my TF101 and to be honest - it doesn't seem to make a whole lot of difference when listening thought the tablet's speakers.

Nope, it is gone. Totally. It is OK on bluetooth and through jack but the speakers are deaf. From one point to another and remains so even after reboot and reflashing with a /system format.
On ICS based roms there was a problem similar to this where restarting the tab fixed it for some time and you could have save this reboot with the KAT tool. You could just reinitalize the sound. I agree on the quality part though
I hope it is not HW related, this was always a popular problem with the TF101. I just hope to find someone who encountered this and can give a fresh idea of a fix.

Which build are you using? The latest one I have the same issue, but if I go back a few it's working fine.

Hello there,

Thanks in advance!

I'm using 018 right now because with 019 and 020 the back button stops working. I was also unable to control the sound through the device itself but if I would start, say, a movie on MX Player then I could hear and adjust volume.

That's because you forgot to flash the gapps after the rom zip.
Follow exactly the instructions from the 1st post and it'll work fine.

I know I had no sound, or GPS when I 1st flashed this. I had flashed it from TWRP 2.5.00, and I got it updated to TWRP 2.6.100, and reflashed it, and now everything is working. I would make sure your TWRP is up to date.

There is no 2.6 for the tf101 ... what did you install exactly? The title says 2.6 but the files are 2.3. http://www.teamw.in/project/twrp2/109
It was fixed after just flashing the newer one.
Edit: Yeah, not touching unofficial cooked recoveries with a 1000 foot pole.

Then you will be waiting a long time, as there have been no new "Official" TWRP recoveries for a long time now for the tf101.. His is working fine.
You take similar risks every time you flash a ROM.

I agree with @C0BRA01. The only reason that joesteink's build were not official is because no one from the TWRP team approved them. I have not heard of any issues of anyone bricking or having issues caused by any of the 2.5 or 2.6 builds for the TF101. I am running sidneyk's 2.6.1.0-c build right now and have had zero issues, other than the superuser nag screen at reboot when running KatKiss 021. It has to do with the supersu app even though root is working fine in the ROM.

I have a TF300T with the latest bootloader and twrp 2.6.3.1. I had been installing nightlies for CM11 and using Grimlock kernel and had zero problems until the first nightly after Snapshot M4. Ever since then, after flashing a kernel on any CM11 as soon as it reboots into android I get the message in the title line.
I have tried wiping everything and it still happens after installing a kernel. If I just install any copy of CM11 and GAPPS everything works perfectly fine. It's only when installing any of the aftermarket kernels. I even tried using the latest Philz Touch 6 and still get the same problems. I have searched on Google and find plenty of people asking for help on the same error message for different devices but nothing on how to fix it. Does anyone know what this can be?
Any help will be greatly appreciated. I like our tablet with CM11, but it is SO much better being able to overclock.
Thanks,
Rick

Free gift from Grimlock. It's the kernel that restarts 3 times before fully booting, right? As soon as I took it off my system, the problem vanished. Comes with the package. You like Grimlock, must learn to live with it. I don't like it That much.

Or you could file bug reports with the devs, and guess what? They found the problem and fixed it! Instead of slagging people who are trying to improve our tablets, you could help them by letting them know about the issues you have.
The "free gift" is the kernel that's posted for a community. If you don't like it and don't want to help, and would rather tell others bad things about it, then take your nonsense somewhere else.

cm hammerhead no sound

Hello xda folks,
I have no sound whatsoever on my cyanogen N5, version 11-20140726-NIGHTLY. No sound preview during chosing ringtones, no alarm sound, no spotify, google music, apollo crashes seconds after trying to play local stored tracks. Weirdly enough only Pocket Casts and calling work fine.
Any solution to this? custom kernel? apps tweaking? anything?
removed pocket casts - no effect
factory reset - no effect
flashing same rom again - no effect

Try ElementalX (cm version) or Chaos or any other CAF based kernel.
Install UKM (Universal Kernel Manager) to tweak your kernel settings. You will understand the differences with custom kernels

not "flashing" glitches like "loading" them - its the glitches that are flashing on the screen - some kind of caleidoscopic pixelized ****. Maybe this could be bug in the kernel?

You need a linux PC. A live DVD/USB stick would be enough. Then open terminal and type those 2 commands while you are in the second bootloader:
Code:

Yeah, it should. The source has been buildable for a long time, but they needed someone with the device to act as a maintainer in case of the odd bug. So I managed to convince them to go ahead and turn on the nightlies.
I'm fairly certain as of right now it's next in the build queue, so we should see it in the next 10-15 minutes hopefully. There's already a placeholder activated for it on the cmxlog site for cm12 as of this morning: http://www.cmxlog.com/12/d800/ ... only thing stopping it would be a build failure.
Same general requirements from CM11. Should just work, loki'd, etc. There's a new CAF kernel coming about, and that'll be bumped. Fun times ahead
PS> since your post is at the top of the forum, could you please update your OP to reflect the new nightlies? Thanks
I installed the new nightly about an hour ago. Everything seems good so far. Battery life seems good too. I will update after a little more use.
Yeah!!!
I have had one random reboot so far but hasn't happened again.
Using both stock modem and the modem provided on the link in the OP, rotation is not working.

This. Fixed sensors as well as MMS issues. It fixed rotation/compass etc. immediately. To fix MMS, I had to go to Settings -> Mobile Networks -> Network operators -> Search Networks (manual option) -> then select two different networks that were not AT&T (it is a slow process)...wait until they both fail and the select the top AT&T network choice and wait for it to connect...reboot... resolved the issue for me.

[GUIDE][ROOT][MT6735] Root Blu Studio Energy 2! (No sketchy root-tools)

Hello, and welcome to a short and sweet guide on the way I have found to successfully root our device, the blu studio energy 2!
DISCLAIMER - I am not a developer, and any knowledge I have has come from reading forums and tinkering with android devices I have owned. If you are reading this, you should know that I do not guarantee these steps will work for you, and will not be responsible for any damage this causes your device.
THINGS YOU WILL NEED
1. MTK VCOM Drivers Installed (Guide on XDA)
2. SP Flash Tool
3. Scatter file (modified from Gionee M4 version to match our partition table, attached)
4. TWRP Recovery ported to M4 by Hanuma50
5. SuperSU Flashable ZIP
PROCEDURE
1. Open SPFT, and load the modified scatter file
2. Click the Download Tab, and edit the settings as follows:
A. Make sure 'Download Only' is selected
B. Only Recovery Partition box is checked
C. Make sure correct scatter is loaded3. Double click in 'Location' field next to recovery partition(screenshot highlighted in blue), and select Gionee M4 TWRP recovery.img
4. Click "Download" Button
5. Download/Copy SuperSU zip to phone
6. Power off phone
7. With "Download" button clicked in SPFT, connect phone to USB without powering on (VCOM DRIVERS MUST BE INSTALLED FOR THIS TO WORK)
8. Wait for SPFT to flash, popup with green check-mark will display when complete
9. Disconnect phone from USB, hold power + volume-up keys until boot into TWRP Recovery
10. Install SuperSU zip from TWRP
11. Reboot into system, you are now successfully rooted and with custom recovery!
From this point on, you can install any app needing root, and also perform full nandroid backups using TWRP on Blu Studio Energy 2.
TECHNICAL INFO
For anyone interested in what I have done, it is all very simple, and any credit should go to Hanuma50 at Needrom for porting TWRP to Gionee M4!
The reason we can use Gionee roms/recoveries on our device is because Blu devices are just rebranded (usually Gionee) phones sold in the US. So, all that I have done is use SP Flash tools to load an M4 recovery on our device!
The only real change needed was to change the scatter file, because apparently Gionee uses some different partition sizes than Blu does. Don't worry though, the recovery partitions are exactly the same, and the scatter changes are only to avoid errors that show up without them.
I changed the scatter to reflect the partition sizes/locations found in /proc/partinfo on our Blu phones. This is very easy and if someone is getting 'PMT changed' error in SPFT trying to do this on another MT6735 device, try changing the scatter hex values to match your partinfo file :fingers-crossed:
Just followed your instructions and seems to be working flawlessly!
I didn't have to first flash the drivers because I had already done that previously. When you connect the blu studio energy 2 to your computer via usb, it popus up with a cd of the drivers which you can install.
Thank you! This will make this phone so much better. Also, I must have been using an old version of twrp, because this version has a beautiful UI!
Any suggestions for programs to free or remove, now that we have root access? I am looking forward to messing with this phone now.
I tried installing xposed but was unsuccessful. Have you tried this? Thanks again.
Glad it worked out!
Have just been starting to mess with I thyself to be honest, I actually have gotten xposed to install, haven't gotten gravity box working yet. I installed xposed arm-64 sdk 21.
On a friend's phone I have flashed gionee m4 stock rom, which works really well and seems nicer in some respects to the Blu stock, but I am hesitant to flash it since I haven't found a foolproof way to backup the stock before flashing.
EDIT - I actually got gravity box working, using sdk21 arm64 xposed installer. Everything works really well surprisingly I've had more luck than on my old nexus 4 running stock 5.1. Everything works fine for me, except for power menu, and i think that's just about it for everything else I've tried. QS remapping and navigation button remappiny works great, hope it works for you too!
Outer then that, I have installed adaway and some other apps needing root and they work well. Hopefully we can start getting some nice development for this phone or the m4 in the near future!

Thanks, I thought I tried that version of the installer but I guess not. I'll give it another shot. Can't wait to see what kind of further dev work we get!
I flashed the 78 sdk21 64 zip for xposed but when I reboot it says optimizing apps and then reboots.
Any idea what I might be doing wrong?

Mine did that too, you have to let it do it's thing. It will say optimizing, and keep rebooting, but after every reboot it SHOULD have 1 or 2 fewer apps listed that it says its optimizing. Pretty weird, but afterward it does seem to have installed correctly. It took my phone about 25 minutes of the rebooting, but afterwards I haven't noticed any issues with xposed/gravity box LP.

Oh weird. Thanks for the explanation!
Just curious, have you had any trouble playing music on your phone? I have problems playing through aux and Bluetooth.

What kind of problems are you having? I've only used my energy 2 with headphones and once briefly with a bluetooth speaker just to test it. I've had no trouble with headphones and my brief test with bluetooth audio seemed fine.
If you tell me what problems you're having I can try and test it.

Ok thanks!
The problem I'm having with aux connection is that the phone thinks the connection is lost/reconnected every few seconds. So after a while, the music will either keep pausing itself, or cut out every few seconds. I have only had this problem with aux cables into stereos, but I have tried multiple cables with the results.
With Bluetooth, there are stutters in the audio.
I have actually returned the first phone I got to amazon because of this problem, and the second one did the same thing, but maybe I really did just get two duds in a row?
Thanks for your help!

So I just used the bluetooth speaker in my shower for 20 minutes to listen to pandora. I did not notice any stuttering. I will try hooking up the phone to my stereo tomorrow and seeing what happens.

Connected it to my stereo with a standard 3.5mm cable and listened to a podcast with pocketcast. Didn't experience any problems.

Hmm... Well, thanks for checking. I'm not sure why I'm having so many problems...

I'm trying to think what could be different. I haven't installed xposed on my phone, maybe it is something related to that, or some other change that you have made and I haven't?

I'm not sure, I have tried it out with the same problems on both phones, right after I got them from Amazon, before I made any changes

Crazy. I have no idea then.
I received this phone yesterday and have been playing around with it. My previous phone was a Samsung Blaze 4G (yes, really old but still chugging along) that was rooted and running Cyanogenmod 10. I am planning on rooting this phone, but was curious if anyone had tried using Kingoroot to do so?
Apologies if this doesn't belong in this thread, I was just curious about the various methods of rooting that might be available.
Cheers!
Update: Kangoroot does not currently root the Blu Studio Energy 2 phone (sorry, I was impatient). I will have a crack at it using your method listed by the OP.

I have tried all the one click root methods I could find and none of them worked. Just use the ops method, it is quite easy and works like a charm.
On an unrelated subject, I tried installing xposed and after reading ops description it worked fine for me. Have had no issues since installing xposed although gravitybox didn't seem to work properly, but I think that is due to the phone's rom. Amplify works great and so does greenify. I am currently testing out powernap, and it seems to work so far.

Sound problem after CM12.1 release build

Hello Guys,
After update my Moto Maxx to build: cm-12.1-20151117-SNAPSHOT-YOG7DAO1K3-quark the speaker sound isn't working anymore. Tried to disable the system profile but nothing happened.
I tested receiving a call and trying to watch a youtube video.
Another issue I notices is that when I receive a call and put the phone close to my face, it's not turning off the screen.
Can you guys help me?
Thanks
As you know, that "snapshot" nightly was a corrupted image with a bad kernel. The naming structure was not usual or anything. Most people stayed away because it was too strange.
1) You have flashed other good images since then? Still no sound?
2) Do you have a TWRP backup you can revert to?
Hi, I've flashed cm-12.1-20151129-NIGHTLY-quark.zip and everithing is working now.
Why do they put a corrupted rom as Stable?

It was a mistake in the automatic compilaton method. The wrong kernel was included, is the explanation I understood. That mistake has never happened before. But always good to keep a TWRP backup handy, which you can restore.
Ah, that explains my problem that I'm having (found this on first search return)...a belated thanks!
Edit: 2015-12-12 daily working perfectly so far...
