No Sound!!!! - HTC Desire S

Hello people,
I just noticed yesterday that my DS has no sound at all although the sound settings are correct!
You can make and receive calls surf the net use the apps and everything but with no sound.
If you connect the hands free you hear music and all the sounds of the phone but if you disconect then it goes mute again.
Any ideas?

What rom are you running?

No I havent and I d like to avoid one.....
Is there another solution you can think of?

Are you rooted? You could try replacing the sound driver files. But I would first try a hard reset. Or maybe your speaker has suddenly packed up

No I aint rooted and I am against hard reset (too many things to back up).
I remember this happening again a couple of years ago but it came back to its senses when I plugged the handsfree on.
Having my ONE X on service I ve been using my old DS for music quite a lot with the handsfree so I think that has something to do with the problem.I am almost sure that the phone somehow thinks its on hands free thats why no sound is heard....

What if while playing music with hands free in, then unplug it

The that worked before i flashed to either Valhalla or Octane was Black Ice Voodoo from Krylon360
here is all i could find
http://androidforums.com/incredible...people-cant-hear-me-without-speakerphone.html
so what this states is that some have success with factory reset, and/or clearing the caches several times. or it could be an app, try simply simple rom.
could be an app, some say problem with head phone jack and suggest to clean "There was an issue with the headphone jack. Take a set of headphones (ear buds) and dip the plug into some alcohol. Slide the plug in and out of the jack several times. Wipe the plug and repeat."
'This happens to me when i unplug the headphones without exiting music player remix first. To fix, I restart the musicplayer, plug them in, exit the program, unplug.
The thread "stuck in headset mode" talks about the other variations of the problem."
or an app, like voice recorder is set on it to automatically turn on speaker phone.
so if still having problems after all this then its a hw problem, so fix go to t-mobile or put speaker phone on all the time by using voice recorder app. you have to look into how to do that. i hope i help some what.

Ok, I don't know if you have a voodoo kernel but I fixed mine by unchecking hi-fi recording in the voodoo control app. I guess it's a bug with voodoo on some kernels.

Had this issue on ics . In the other ROMs i noticed that the volume becomes very less after some time ( not mute though ). Reboot as usual fixes it.
i also have similar issue. sometimes audio doesn't work in music player/games. then i pause the player/game, go to home and increase phone volume using vol. up key. it usually fixes the issue

My guess is you have lint stuck in there. If you keep your phone in your pocket, especially with jeans and similar materials, lint tends to find its way into the jack. I get this all the time, and audio cuts in and out, and you sometimes have to force the plug in hard to get it to work at all. Turn the phone off and pull the battery out (really, do it) then bend a small paper clip so it is strait with just a little hook on the end, and carefully use it to pull the lint out of the jack. A bright light is helpful in the process. If I am right, you will be amazed at how much you can pull out, and if you get it clear it hopefully will work again.
I found out if you have your ringtones to vibrate or mute, the sound will stay working. So in other words, keep your phone on either and you'll be good . It's something to do with JB. I did some searching and came across a thread somewhere on xda saying it's something with custom JB ROMs across all devices, even nexus devices. What happens may vary, but in the end JB has audio issues

Yeah. I had the issue for the LONGEST time, now it is working fine 24/7, like I have all sounds working no problem. If it starts doing it again, I'll post here to let you guys know. If it doesn't **** up again, then all I can say is for anyone who get the issue, just stick to vibrate only for notifications and your other sounds (music, etc) will work fine.
I don't know if it matter's or not, but I am running the PAC-man ROM, the most recent v4 6/12/13. It might even be something with the default notification sounds being used. I am using sounds for my notifications from Zedge.

Headphone problems

So recently I was on the cm10.2 nightly when my speaker stopped working(including the earpiece). It took me about a day to figure it out, but it turns out my phone thought the headphones were always plugged in. Did a factory reset didn't help. Cleaned the jack out didn't do anything either. Thought it might be the cm10.2 nightlies. Switched to a sense Rom and now my speakers work but my headphones don't. It continues to play from the speaker even when I plug my headphones in. I can temporarily fix it with the soundabout app but that is quite annoying to use and change the settings all the time. Could it be the firmware? Should I run the ruu again?
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda app-developers app
If you're s-off running an RUU wouldn't be a bad idea.

I had a similar problem while running Viper 4.0. I clean installed Viper again, and had the she problem. I RUU'd back to 3.18 and installed CM10.1.3 RC2, and everything is back to normal.

Well, no luck for me. I guess my jack is starting to go. I'm having the same problem on CM10.1.3. If it matters, I did update my firmware when I installed Viper 4.0.

My S5's headphone jack is jacked! >_<

Well I guess I'm gonna have to flash back to stock with Odin and get my new phone exchanged because it appears that I have a faulty headphone jack.
I've tried the stock ear buds as well as a couple other pair I have and music only plays if I wiggle the connection and the plug is really loose so something's not right. Grrrr
Totally screwed up my Zombie's run workout! [emoji35]jk
Sorry I just needed to vent because I've gotten everything all set up and now I have this issue!
I'll get over it though. [emoji13]

okay that clarifies everything, if it is happening with the stock too then it could be a hardware problem_do one thing .. open your back panel .. you will see too screws at both the sides of the speaker at the bottom, loosen them both till they start coming out then tighten them again but only till you feel a lil resistance, this the whole point of doing this_i am guessing those screws are too tight .. they're interfering with the speaker circuitry ...
