Come and get em! Must be rooted or have some way of completely uninstalling the existing Google Keyboard that the phone ships with for this to work.
Sorry, Android won't let you have the same app installed twice at the same time. Since this phone ships with Google Keyboard as the default system keyboard, these most likely will not install if the original one is still present.
Themed Google Keyboards!!

You shouldn't have to rename anything. What happens when you try to install it using the apk? you should try to install it from the Play Store. If it works then you got a bad download try to download it again. If it doesn't work then you have something left from the original keyboard on the phone still. Let me know what happens and I can walk you through more troubleshooting if need be.

In the same boat. I tried the zip in recovery method and keyboard disappeared all together. And tried apk after full removal and I just got errors saying can't install and another saying out of storage.
Whereas Google keyboard from play store reinstalled without issue.

These worked perfect for me on my Mini...What I did was rename the LatimIme apk to akp.bak then copied the blue keyboard into my system/app and rebooted. After it started back up of course I got the keyboard f/c but then went into system app and install your blue keyboard like any other app and it works perfectly, thanks!
Edit: Spoke to soon, it wont survive a reboot?

Hi all heres the latest google playstore
3.9.16
Download: http://beta.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390135922294521859
Google just started rolling out an updated Google Play Store version 3.9.16 that follows the previous version 3.8.17 from August. Good news, everyone - we've already got our hands on the APK for you to install manually thanks to our loyal tipsters.
What's New
The most notable and immediately apparent new feature is the long overdue ability to remove apps you've previously downloaded from the All Apps list. If you like to try a lot of apps, that list is likely very cluttered. With the new Google Play, you can trim it to your heart's content.
Update #1: You can multi-select by long-pressing any app in the list and then tapping more apps, then delete them all in one go (added 2 new screenshots demonstrating it).
Update #2: The new Play Store now keeps track of your location in lists, including My Apps and All Apps, so when you click into an app and back, it drops you into the same spot. I had variable luck with this, and it didn't seem to work in All Apps at first, but I just reproduced it on both the EVO LTE and the Nexus 7. Brilliant.
Update #3: The notification icon that shows up when you have app updates has changed, and notifications are now expandable. I've added more screenshots showing the differences.
The size of the Play Store APK actually went down, so Google must have trimmed some extra fat. We're still digging through everything
Thanks androidpolice
Finally! I wonder though.. will it decrease app download amounts? Obviously if people remove it, it wasn't something they liked..

What happens if you have the same Google account on 2 devices and have an app on 1 but not the other and you remove the app from the device that doesn't have the app installed?
What happens if you delete a purchased app? Do you have to pay for it again if you want to re-install it later?

Can't answer the first one, but I just uninstalled a paid app to test for you. When I searched afterwards, it shows up as a purchased app, so I think you'll be good on that front.

I'm on paranoid android 2.2 rom on my Nexus 7, I have gapps ending in "26" installed, which I believe are the gapps from August, and installing this gives me an error message "conflicting signatures".....I don't even have the play store under "downloaded" apps like you would normally find it, but it is under the "all" tab. It was suggested that I rename the apk to "phonesky" and copy it to system/apps, I don't even see "phonesky" anywhere in the files, it's not on my Nexus 7. Can someone please help me out of the know what I can do to get this installed? It's so baffling that a simple apk won't install.
I would appreciate any help at all. Thank You.

UPDATE 1: Google Search Force Close fix:
Long press the home screen, select Settings. Select Voice. Select Language to change the default. Change to another language, for me I choose English – UK. Hit Home. Do a Google Search. Repeat the first three steps. Change back to English – US. (you may have to redo this step every time you restart --- if you experienced FC --- for non-rooted users)
OR
Please extract and replace the /system/lib/libgoogle_recognizer_jni.so with the one downloaded from here: . (permanent fix --- for rooted users)
UPDATE 2: "Ok, Google" search feature fix:
If anyone has a problem with the "Ok, Google" search feature, you have to get the English (US) language update. Under Google Now settings, tap "Offline Speech Recognition" --- "All" and tap "English (US)" to update. After it is done, press home and it should be working! If you've cleared data on the app, it'll erase the update and you'll need to do this again.
Didn't Work for me so I moved GNow and Launcher to System and now works perfectly
Thank you for all the support this community gives me! (Unlike I9300 )
