got this product free for a honest review and i put it to the test, its quiet a amazing product that has these features Portable Travel Router - 5200mAh External Battery Pack, USB Storage Media Sharing, Access Point, Wi-Fi Router & Bridge which i find very cool for trips or just charging a phone ect. very simple to use as Access Point, Wi-Fi Router by simply plugging your internet into the unit and now you have a Access Point for sharing your wifi without handing out you password which i used not only in a hotel room but a party i had at my house. the unit only require a simple playstore app to be put on android device called HooToo TripMate https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=hootoo.wd.activities&hl=en and its very simple to set up and soon your off and running.and if your a iphone user you only need this app from itunes https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/hootoo-tripmate/id658692923?mt=8 and your good to go also. i linked apple side cause some of us android users have apple products such as ipad which is supported. using my GS4 i got around Approx. 15-20hrs of runtime as a router and was able to charge my GS4 from 3% to full and charge a wp phone from 57% to full. Approx. 7-10hrs of charging time to fully charge TripMate which was a little long but well worth it. unit has 4 blue led lights that show charging time left on unit and a green wifi light when unit is a active wifi hotspot then you just open wifi networks and tripmate is there and a simple 8 # 1's is your password. Built-in 5200 mAh external charger is very handy and fits nice in your pocket or glovebox when on the go.i give it 5 stars for all its capabilities and a really nice price of $49.99 for all it does its very worth the price.amazon link also if you like them better than newegg.http://www.amazon.com/Release-TripM...id=1378172334&sr=8-1&keywords=hootoo+tripmate

no chromecast to try it with but i dont see how it would, it works off hotels internet to run multiple devices so its basically a hotspot using your or anyone's internet. hoo too answers emails rather quickly on support page so maybe ask there i could be wrong.

Yes, I think it is. I can use my RAVPower wireless filehub with Chromecase. My filehub is quite similar to this product.

I'm surprised we missed this one. There's a new QI wireless car charger that's been announced by Nokia.
Available in May (possibly April) and retails for 69EUR
EDIT: Confirmed, looks like it's compatible with the nexus 4 (see post #11). NFC may be a little tricky though.
http://www.nokia.com/global/products/accessory/cr-200/
Interesting that this was missed in the mainstream news. As long as it fixes the issues that Nokia's home chargers had with the Nexus 4 it'd be something a great buy.
From MobileFun:
"we can confirm that the holder does feature adjustable holders but we do not have specific details on the minimum and maximum size range (we'll update this asap) Although anything close to the Lumia 920 will be suitable."
I'll keep the thread updated with any new relevant information.

Oh man, never thought of a NFC tag for my car dock. Keeping my eye on this.
Nice find! If this works with N4 and actually gains a charge with streaming music BT and navigation I am sold.

Same here, Im really only posting so this thread doesn't get lost in my CP.
Nokia's official blog says it'll be available starting April 2013.
"Known as the CR-200, this phone holder can be mounted on the dashboard or windscreen of your car and can be used in either a horizontal or vertical position – much like any other phone holder.
However, to save you time and hassle from fumbling for the power cable in the footwell, wireless charging is incorporated right into the design. You can leave the holder plugged into the power outlet, as you’re unlikely to be removing that as often as you would the phone. That means all you need to do the next time you sit in the driver’s seat, is slot in your phone to charge.
Additionally, the holder contains an NFC-tag that’s capable of launching predefined apps on your phone. For example, you can choose to automatically launch HERE Drive when you attach your phone – easy!
Retailing at around €69, the CR-200 comes in black and will be available from April 2013."

69 euros is like close to a hundred us dollars? As long as I can return it if it doesn't work I will be first to buy and try.

Anyone wish they would offer these in a light color like white/grey? My old Evo one got hotter than the surface of the sun sitting in my windshield on a long trip (I always took it down to put up a sun screen).
Awww yeah! Works with the nexus 4 (0:50)
Nice! Can't wait to test it.

I'm not sure if this is troublesome, but just before the one minute mark, the charger stops charging the phone for a really brief period of time.

It could be a number of things that could have caused that. For one, he could have been fidgeting with the car charger while talking and such. We can't multi task too well lol.
But it looked to be consistently charging after panning away.
The only knock is it looks like, just like the Owlpad, the cable comes out of the bottom of the charger. I really wish they would come out the back towards the mount (or better yet be like the Galaxy Nexus mount and go into the base) to better conceal the wire.
Even though I will be getting this when it comes out.

hopefully that is the only downside, im more worried about it being able to charge fast enough with gps on without overheating the phone like the owlpad.

Anyone tested this charger already?
Hello everyone. Recently I was tasked at work to redesign and office space and attempting to use a program to lay out and then provide a 3d rendering of the proposed space. turned out to be a nightmare for me. I work in a facility that is not updated their computer systems since 2005 I ended up making everything work but I had to do it on my phone. My question without HML support is there any way to turn a smartphone reasonably to function like a desktop PC?
So far all I have found is Microsoft's miracast. Most likely have to buy a bluetooth keyboard mouse.
But I want to know if anybody else has tried this what worked what didn't. My goal would be to plug my phone into my monitor at work so I can actually do something. so HDMI is a must.
Hardware found:
https://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/p/wireless-display-adapterPlease help
http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-Miracast-Video-Adapter-Supports/dp/B00HFAEBWG
what do you need to do at work and why didnt you onsider a hromeast?
Chromecast requires a wifi router. Miracast the phone communicates to the dongle directly. This removes some variables you can not plan for ie. Crappie or no wifi. I only need an HDMI display, a miracast device and my phone and I can work, display, present. Ideally with the two items that fit in my pocket. Especially without having to try and sign on to a WiFi network that may or may not work. Making it so I could walk into any room plug it into the TV connect with my phone and begin.
To be honest with you I recently got into it with my boss. I told him that I can do more on my phone than on the s*** computers they give us. And I kind of want to prove it.

This would be really cool. Only phone I have known of that has these features is the old Motorola atrix. Maybe look into one of those new devices like IBM's pc stick. It's basically a donggle that plugs in via hdmi and as a full OS installed on it.
Today I tested the screenbeam 2 http://www.amazon.com/Actiontec-ScreenBeam-Wireless-Receiver-SBWD60A01/dp/B00O14JG2Y
Watched transcendence and great picture only got jumpy 2/3 times. Very minor lag. Some ppl reported the dongle gets hot this is true. Uses a lot of battery wifi direct phone was placed on a wireless charger and still dropped 20% during the hour plus movie. Tomorrow I'm testing a method of making the display more "desktop like" for my proposed use at work. Need to connect bluetooth mouse and keyboard. Along with some phone system tweeks. I could not get connected to my chromecast without the router.
Still looking for input from anyone who has tried this.

Yes, what else do you do with your phone? We have one of the most feature-rich, complex phone existing but the xda Note Edge forums are so quite.
I'm sure that there are options, futures wich we are not using at their potential.
So let's speak about interesting things we do with the phone.
My examples:
1. Kodi+addons+bubleupnp+ Chromecast=relaxation time
I watch the movies I want from my bed on my non smart tv. Time for "Game of thrones" s6 ep1 now If someoane needs any info regarding this please let me know.
2. I live in Uk and the car repair prices are so big. Therefore in time I learned that the best way to save money when you need a car repair -if you can't fix it yourself-is to already have an idea about what the problem is and how much the spare parts are(ebay is the best friend for parts) before going to the mechanic.
Bluetooth Obd scanner(£4) + diagnostic app (torque for ex) are helping a lot when the engine light comes on.
What about you? What other interesting things are you doing with your phone?
P.s.-has anyone managed to find a way to use the phone as a live booting usb, without root? If you have root it is easy to do that using drivedroid.

If you're into cars, you might want to check out the app "Dash". You run it while you're driving and it gives you real-time info from your OBD scanner in a nice interface, among other things.

I use that also, very good app. Thanks!
For monitoring helth I use two aps: Icare and Shealth.
With Icare I'm checking the blood pressure (fairly accurate, in my case -12 as stated in the descriprion).
Rough animator is just amazing with the edge's grunt and an s-pen
Been a long time since I have been here. Trying to figure out what to buy in order to screen mirror my Note 4 to my TV without using WIFI. I want to use my phone date if at all possible. I am going to list everything I have already tried and see if that will help you guys cross things off the list. I currently have an HDMI to mini usb cable that will provide what I need but has a few issues. #1 the charging port in the side of the adapter does not charge faster than the usage so really useless. I also cannot turn off my phone while hooked to the tv or the picture will go away thus draining the battery. The only luck I have ever had with this is to use the cable and turn brightness all the way down by using Screen Filter app after the content starts and it does Ok but not that great. I have tried Screen Standby but never got it to work. Last week I bought a Chromecast thinking that would work but did not realize Google had recently blocked it from working off your cell phone. You must use WIFI and my home internet sticks pretty bad. I also have an Amazon Firestick that has a screen mirring function but was pretty bad as well. Is there some sort of dongle of some sort that will allow me to do what I have described. I would really like to buy something I can plug into TV, cvhange my input and screen mirror my Note 4 without all the headaches. Thanks for any and all help in advance.
With the prices on Z Flip 3 lately, I was considering snagging one to use as a dedicated hotspot. I’d love some advice.
iPhone user who can’t stand the built-in hotspot that doesn’t broadcast all the time. It works great for Apple devices that have same AppleID…not so much for others. I just want something that I can keep in my backpack and it’s just ready. Considering the Nighthawk 5G is $400…might as well get this.
Would prefer to use a widget to control the hotspot from the outside display and not have to flip open to use. I see there are some options there. Any tips or cool widgets to be aware of?
My wireless plans have 40-50GB of hotspot included, but I’d rather mask the hotspot so that it doesn’t come from that bank. Do I need to root? Or are there some apps that I can still download that do that?
Ethernet tethering…does that mean with an adapter I can hook up to my home Wi-Fi router as the source when our home internet goes out?
Anything else I’m not considering?
Thanks in advance for the advice!

Good point. The dedicated hotspots generally have 4500-5500. Though I’ve seen that wireless charging with MagSafe works with a ring, and I have plenty of chargers that would be pretty convenient.

Depending on the current usage with screen off running as a hot spot constantly being on a charger may not work well. Phones aren't designed to be charged with the screen on ie in a high current drain state.
If it does maintain a 100% charge state... high temperatures and high cell voltage degrade an Li the quickest.
In the end midrange power cycling (40-80%) may yield a better Li lifespan.

1. There are a lot of options out there before buying a phone to do it. Make sure you've considered all of them, such as https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09742XJB1 (~$190)
2. By default, it's not an option. There are a couple options out there to run apps and widgets on the cover. You'll find them here.
3. Apps still exist that can run a hotspot separate from whatever your carrier claims is the limit. It's my understanding that the limit is bandwidth added, whereas using a third-party hotspot borrows the bandwidth from your phone. In your case, it won't make much difference not using the phone.
4. Using adapters, it is possible. That isn't to say it will be effective, since you would be using a single 5G connection broken down into a portion for each device connected to it. It's a bit like ordering one pizza. Either the slices need to be smaller or less people need to eat.
5. Phone hotspots are meant for when you run into trouble and someone needs to borrow internet or you have a tablet that would be better for completing a task. It's not a long-term solution by any means.
If you really want to buy a phone to run a hotspot, there are far better options. You can limit some battery use with the cover screen by running a full launcher on it, but that only compensates for the smaller device battery. At the end of the day, you trade that extra time you would have every time you are running the hotspot with the screen off for the few times you have to change settings not using as much power on that run. It would only really make sense if you already had the phone and were repurposing it.

$229 for 5G and a 5000 mAh battery makes a lot more sense.

A dedicated hotspot would be fine, but I plan on using SIM cards on phone plans or iPad plans. I wouldn't want to use anything that would trigger a flag.

No arguments here. Every once in a blue moon we have a disconnect at home and we need to fire up hotspots. If I had an option to integrate into our router so that I didn't have to update all the connection settings that would be cool.

I appreciate the recommendation. The main appeal to this device is the form factor. If I'm going to run phone as hotspot I want it to be as small/compact as possible - understanding the trade-off in battery life. What I really want is a Palm Companion sized phone that I can program a launcher to only control the hotspot and lock the screen so it doesn't go into any other interface. Basically - act like a hotspot device - but have a phone IMEI that's less traceable.

If the Ticwris MAX devices were 5G, I'd recommend that. They're 2600 mAh, but about the size of a Zippo. One thing I've learned, though, is if you approach a list of cons trying to justify how to accept or overcome them, you've already decided. Best thing to do is make sure you can return it if it's not what you hoped.
