Same problem here. I want to take my SII back to store for warranty, so do I have to replace cwm with stock recovery? I unrooted, factory resetted and used Triangle Away (but it seems like something causes the counter to go back to 1, so I've done it again a few times), so what else should I do to make sure the warranty isn't void?

Flash firmware right after using triangle away.
If you go back to cwm. It goes back to 1 as it can detect your system is modified
When the flashing process is finished, it should reboot. But if you haven't wiped it yet, force reboot it back to stock recovery and wipe. Then reboot.
Congrats, you have your warranty back

Flashing rom's does not trip the counter. Using download mode and Odin trips the counter.......when u flash back to stock u Will trip the counter.
I don't care about the counter though so flash away

If you want to stay super safe, only use Odin to flash CWM, then backup your rom IMMEDIATELY after. Then if you want to install an app, only use zips. I flashed a few roms with my first SR and the counter never reset, then when I wanted to go back, I just recovered my stock backup.

That's true... you could restore a CWM Nandroid stock image... but phone would still have CWM Recovery partition... someone correct me if I'm wrong, but if you want to "return to stock " for an exchange, you'll need to put 3e Recovery back on and the only way I know of is to reflash stock 3e recovery tar via Odin3... no? And an Odin flash will trip the binary counter.
Flashing Samsung stock odin packages does NOT trigger the counter. Flashing none Samsung Odin packages does.
You can always flash back to stock and your counter will stay at zero it was zero.
for me was the other way around... I flashed stock rom to revert back and it triggered the counter.

For me it did trigger the counter flashing stock rom.
I dont get the point of the counter anyway?
is Samsung going to tell you you can't get it warrantied because you were having probelms with the phone and flashed it to see if it was a software issue? lol.

Sounds like you forgot to Un-Check Repartition in odin. Once you select the image you want to flash, it will auto-check the Repartition box (even if you unchecked it before). I would just try again and make sure its not checked before beginning
I made sure to uncheck repartition. I had a friend who was somewhat knowledgeable of this type stuff and he told me to do that... Is there anything else I could do?

No. NO. It's not a brick or anything. I recommend you flash ICS. It's much faster and better, also because it has it's own recovery. After you flash ICS you have to load up its recovery, hold the volume and the power button and wipe data and cache. It should boot flawlessly. If you do want gingerbread install clockwork mod and wipe cache and data. It should boot up.

Hello my friends, I would like to make sure I am clear on how to return the 1727 to stock in order to return to ATT for service.
My understanding thus far is that I must do the following:
1. Return to stock firmware using ODIN
2. Reset the flash counter
How do I delete the traces of CWM recovery, and also ODIN itself? Is it possible to make the phone look entirely 'unrooted' for ATT to fix and/or service?
Thanks!
Flash the stock rom with odin. It'll replace cwm with the stock recovery. You can use triangle away to reset the flash counter. Do that after returning to stock.

A stock tar restores stock 3e recovery. If you're counter had not been incremented, and it probably hasn't, you don't need triangle away. We also have a "counter reset" that you can flash if you have increased your counter. So, no need for triangle away anyways.

Using the official tar from sammobile will not trip the counter. You are good.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
the only way you could of tripped the counter was by flashing koanes tar rom from way back in the i727 early development or similiar modded roms which there are none that tripped the counter in the past 12months or more. if you did trip the counter there is a reset fix in the 1stop sticky, triangle away wont work for our devices
to return to att just use odin to return to stock as it will replace everything you flashed and be completely stock, just follow the guides

I suppose you could do flashable zips but you still have to return to the stock recovery. I'm pretty sure there is a flashable stock recovery around somewhere.
Does it matter if the stock recovery is listed as an ICS stock recovery or will it work for JB also?

It won't matter if it's ics or jb since there both officially released by att. You can find the stock firmware at sammobile.com. They're zip files and you'll need to extract the .tar.md5 file from them to use in odin. Use 7-zip to extract.

I think installing clockworkmod for wiping isn't an option. The op flashed stock Rom probably because he wants his warranty back
Installing clockworkmod again would void it again. If the stock Rom you downloaded is the one you had before rooting, then try flashing it again. If it's not, then download your originally out of box stock Rom and flash it with Odin.
Like...the same baseband version as the one you had before any modification of your system

After almost two weeks of seeking for solutions all over internet, the problem was solved. First of all there are no way to root without debuging off via odin o any other tool. All what you have, is just to look for your original firmware of the phone, and it supposed to be four file package.
Looks like:

MODEM - as CP or PHONE
PDA - as AP or PDA

The name of whole package is GT-I9105P-DBT-I9105PXXAMC2_Service-Firmware.zip
For those asking for delete dalvik/cache/factory reset, the solution is - RE-PARTITION!
I used also option Nand Erase All, just to be sure I delete everything.

My phone has been soft bricked after trying to flash the latest dkp kernel. I was using philz touch recovery and I tried to flash dkp kernel 3-20 build, and I got an error during flashing saying that it couldn't decompress the ramdisk. So I tried to flash the older version of dkp that I was using, and it failed to flash! I have never had problems like this before. So now my phone will not boot to system or go back to recovery. I can only access download mode. I was using CM11 with the ML1 modem and dkp kernel before my phone got bricked. It really frustrates me that my phone just randomly decided to freak out and brick itself, because I've been doing the same thing forever and never had any problems flashing a kernel. Please tell me how I can fix my phone. Thank you.

You have to be able to boot into recovery, make sure you hold the volume up + home for an extended period of time.
If you can't, you need to Odin the stock rom and try again.

The ODIN to stock did not work correctly. Maybe I need a different MF1 tar file. Can someone point me to a link for it? I have searched an can't find a completely stock MF1 file.

That's the exact one that I just used. It didn't seem to restore to stock with that.

Don't know what else to tell you, it's a completely stock file.
Recovery, system, kernel, and bootloader.
If you can't boot into recovery it must've not flashed perfectly or something else is wrong, like your hardware.

I highly doubt that it is a hardware issue. I just tried to ODIN again and I'm in the same situation. One thing that I have noticed is that it tries to reinstall the MTP driver after using ODIN and it fails to install.
EDIT: Nevermind. I was able to enter recovery this time. I just did a factory reset. Hopefully it boots now. I will report back with results.
UPDATE: Ok. Everything seems fine now. Used casual to root and unlock bootloader again. Then installed PhilZ Touch Recovery. Now I am making a backup, and I am going to flash a Kit Kat Rom.
