I have searched everywhere but I can't find an answer, I have my drivers installed and I'm trying to root my phone but I can't get the cid 111111 because its stuck on "getting cid, waiting for device". Can anyone help? I just got my att one x 4 hours ago literally. Thanks.
Edit: I have found the solution, if anybody get stuck like i was, uninstall whatever htc drivers you have and download htc sync, it worked perfectly and im using windows 8. Make sure that htc manager isnt running. Peace!

Try using a different port or reinstalling the drivers.

I'm assuming you have HTC sink manager as well?? If so completely disable, or uninstall HTC sync manager, it will cause problems..
Also make sure usb- debugging is enabled on the phone.

Try a different USB cable. If it isn't the one that came with Phone, some 3rd party cables suck.

Thanks for the reply guys, USB debugging IS enabled and I'm using the OEM USB cable.
I was hoping that HTC sync was the issue, but it isn't installed on my computer. So I'm not sure what's wrong really. I'm using windows 8 but the computer recognise my phone when I ran the command for the cid so the drivers are definitely installed. I've tried uninstalling them and then reinstalling but still, not any luck....
Try hard resetting the phone for the hell of it and try again....
Windows 8 might be the problem
Sent from my One X using Tapatalk 2
i too have windows 8 and I went through the same thing. maybe try installing htc sync it worked for me since you basically need the adb and fastboot driver, not just the phone driver
Try this

As of right now I can't load any Rom except for venom. I don't know what is stopping my phone from working.
Background, dropped phone in the toilet, dried it out and everything worked. Went to change roms and something got messed up during the install which cause the phone to have no Os and no usb support. Got all of that straight, reloaded the phone back to stock, rooted it again, unlocked it, and loaded venom.
I have tried to load other roms but it will install in recovery but after reboot it will stay on the loading screen for the rom.
Any help will be great. Thanks!

What hboot? What roms are failing? What version of viperxl is running fine?
Sent from my HTC One XL
Hboot 1.14.
Roms that failed:
Jellybam
HatkaXL
ElementalXL
CM 10
ViperXL 3.0 is running fine now.

You have to flash the boot.img

*facepalm* all roms have there own boot.img. if you open your Rom you'll see what says boot. That is it and you go into fastboot and flash it or use the flash gui app

Thanks. I only ask because I have never had this issue before.

Venom has a way of flashing the boot.img for you...but otherwise since you're on hboot 1=14 you have to manually flash the boot img....dont worry that's why were here to help!

Unfortunately it sounds like when you reflashed to stock you upgraded the hboot, which in turn makes it so you have to flash the boot.img through fastboot. It's unfortunate, but there is a JET tool if you're experienced in Linux to downgrade your hboot. but, like I said, don't do it unless you're confident.
Thanks guy. I got it to work with the flash GUI. Back to clean Rom!

If you're on an AT&T One X I don't think we get the HTC tourch app. I don't have it either. And yeah like he said if you were rooted your phone would say tampered and relocked. And your carier takes care of tethering. Go to settings and then click on more. Hotspot or tethering should be right there

Charging only.
USB debugging doesn't need to be on.
Essentially, plug in the phone, run the RUU. It will tell you what to do.
It might be silly to ask such a question but because of my curiosity am I am asking it.

I had updated to RUU 3.18. Now when I connect phone to PC via USB cable, I'm unable to choose between "Charge only" or "Disk drive".
Phone connects to PC as MTP-device.
Is it a feature or a bug?
Feature. Shows at a portable device now. When sd gets mounted you lose access to apps on sd while mounted
With mtp the phone functions 100% while hooked to pc to copy files or whatever

PC Configuration
Hi, it look me half a day to get around this problem, so I thought I would share with everyone. I had an at&t htc one x with firmware 3.18 that I was trying to unlock the bootloader with. I started by trying to get the SuperCID using the method specified in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2285086 . I got through all the copying of the files through adb, running the xpwn program, and rebooting into the bootloader. Then I encountered the same problem, which is when I tried to use fastboot oem getcid I got "waiting on device."
This is what I tried. I first tried the procedure on my linux mint 16 usb3.0 on my desktop, then windows 8.1 on usb3.0 on my desktop, and then I was using lubuntu 13.10 on usb2.0 from my netbook, and none of these got past the "waiting on device" stage. Finally, I tried to do the same on my 2006 MacBook Pro with Windows XP and usb2.0, and it worked. So I think it could be a combination of hardware and device drivers. I've heard people say that fastboot doesn't work well with usb3.0
