[q] [memory card] - General Questions and Answers

Is it Okay to use another memory card when installing a custom rom? My original memory card has a lot of files. So, is it okay? Does that won't affect the ROM? Waiting for your replies

You can use any memory card. There is no connection between your files and Rom

True.
@OP: And please use normal font size and colour next time. It looks funny!

Slow Transfer Speed (USB)

Hi,
using MIUI rom right now, and I noticed that copying data from PC to phone is slow as hell (200KiB/s). It was OK while using the stock HTC rom. However when I go to the recovery and mount sdcard, transfer speed is relatively good (4MiB/s-10MiB/s). Does anybody know if it is a ROM related problem, because nobody from MIUI has posted similar issue.
Thanks for any tip or advice.
What is the sd card cache size on miui? Stock htc rom it was limited to a poxy 128k! I use this app to bump it to 2048k.....

See if that helps.

Most custom roms have had this tweak as standard for a while, and I've not heard of any issues with cooked SD cards. My class 6 SD card can be written to at 6MB/sec, so I shouldn't expect a cache of 2MB to push it too far. I've had the same 16GB card for 2 years on custom roms with this fix. No problems here.
I'd say make sure you don't have the cache any larger than your SD card class. For example, if you have a generic class 2 card, I'd perhaps only raise the cache to 1024k. That's still 8 times better than stock!
Use an app called "SD Tools" on the marketplace to run a 'before' and 'after' speed test.

No, it doesn't help. It's still the same.
I'm afraid that I can't remember where I've read this, but I believe that I've previously read somewhere in the forum that this is kernel related.
So possibly try stock kernel and try again.

Hi
This phone has 1GB of internal memory from which about 330MB is traceable, but it's used for the operating system applications, settings, drivers and core.
For storage proper you use SD card.up to 32GB.

Depending on which ROM you have installed, it takes up around half of the 1G internal storage. Then there are other partitions on the internal storage (OneNAND-Flex nand flash) that also take up space, like kernels and bootloaders.
I use app2sd and have a 16G sdcard. No problems here.
Hope that helps.

What do you use for you app2sd? Is there a script that can just move everything to my ext4 partitioned sdcard? Btw I'm used to HTC phones, so far they have been the easiest at rooting, n such.

Hi everyone! My SGS 4G doesn't see his internal memory, like it is not there. This issue happened after flashing the device. The Baseband version was KG4 now I downgraded to KC1 trying to fix the problem. Any ideas why the phone can't recoghise his internal memory?

Not sure what you are asking sir, I have installed these, which means I have either tested or ran the ROMs in the Dev. as far as sd card issues, there is none, now for CM9, the mount is different than Gingerbread...EMMC which means: Embedded Multi Media Card, vice the GB "ext SD" label.

[Q] help me. galaxy tab 2 7.0 gt-3113

OK I was flashing the paranoid android ROM a few months back on my galaxy tab 2 7.0 3113 and I lost half of my compacity I am the type of person who downloads watches lots of movies and listen to alot music I would really like to have it back. any suggestions on how to fix it please hey buddy help anyone okay
Have you been making nandroid back ups ? How much is under "Misc" ? Looks around 700mb ? ( but the yellow maker is covering it up )
Looks to me you need to do some house keeping to tidy up the storage space, easy enough to do.
What recovery are you using on the device ?
you've got OVER 2 gigs of app data folders on the internal there, open your file browser and look for folders of apps you've deleted and delete them, also remember YOU HAVE A MICROSD SLOT, you can add more storage for music and movies.
do any of your streaming apps keep a large "buffer", could try clearing app data.

that doesnt explain why my 8gig tab 2 only has 4gigs usable
Its the system partition that eats up the rest, as far as I know. That is why only just under
5 gigs is available. The settings menu doesn't count the system partition as usable space.

That's just the way it is. Kind of like when you insert a 32gb micro sd card you automatically lose nearly 4gb down to 29.7gb.
If you've been making backups chances are the cwm folder has a nice size file well over 1gb

I don't think trays how it works when I frost got it I believe the system file was around .5 to 1 gig maybe
So I doubt I would lose 4 almost 5 gigs from it
And I have and 8 gig microSD card now but I would love that 4 gigs back thats 3 movies...
Also I deleted a bunch a system files that no one ever needs so I have more free space
but damn I need it all back

Rooting has basically nothing whatsoever to do with the problem. Why does everyone think that just cause u rooted ur phone/ tablet now becomes mentally retarded?
I would look around in the system files. I had the same problem, there was this file idk how the hell got there and was like 4 gigs. Just try to locate the file and delete it.

Pretty sure you can go to a folder browser then couldn't u sort all them by size by bigger sizes descending. So what i mean is the biggest files would show up on top. Then you could look around and see if one of the bigger files is not needed.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1970961 here is another thread talking about pretty much the same thing. I agree with one of the posters, about just swapping the storage with the external sd card. I haven't personally had great luck with android 4.2.x, but there is a great script for p311x on xda that swaps them on ics and jb 4.1.x just fine. Its what I use, and also why im not running anything past 4.1.2.

You could delete all the files you want from the system partition and it still wouldn't become usable.

[Q] Low memory - what can I do to clean up space?

My device memory is low. I got a low device memory error earlier and I want to clean it up. Any apps or folders I can delete? Any suggestions to clean up some of my device memory.
Thanks
Clean stuff of you internal and external sd card. Sounds like you should be safe so don't mess with any of the other folders. Just use your pc to clean those. If you don't know what it is you probably shouldn't touch it

Where is what located buddy? Your backups? If you made a backup using a recovery either CWM or TWRP , the backup you made is in the folder named after your recovery.

Low memroy or low storage space ? 2 hugely different issues !!!
In stock ICS or JB , the samsung app widget has an option to close apps and to clear RAM..
If low storage , connect to PC using USB and clear unused junk in your sd and external..
