[Q] Low memory - what can I do to clean up space? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

My device memory is low. I got a low device memory error earlier and I want to clean it up. Any apps or folders I can delete? Any suggestions to clean up some of my device memory.
Thanks

Clean stuff of you internal and external sd card. Sounds like you should be safe so don't mess with any of the other folders. Just use your pc to clean those. If you don't know what it is you probably shouldn't touch it

I too had this problem the other day. I deleted some of the folders that where from deleted apps&games, deleted unused apps&games. Deleted some old backups (those take up a lot of space)

Where is what located buddy? Your backups? If you made a backup using a recovery either CWM or TWRP , the backup you made is in the folder named after your recovery.

Low memroy or low storage space ? 2 hugely different issues !!!
In stock ICS or JB , the samsung app widget has an option to close apps and to clear RAM..
If low storage , connect to PC using USB and clear unused junk in your sd and external..

Internal memory

I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace, and a week or so ago I was trying to free up internal memory. I often have a low memory warning, due to the phone only something like 180mb internal memory. While looking to see what I could delete or move tto fix this, 30mb was suddenly freed without me doing anything.
I know it wasn't just the reading updating, as I was on low memory for weeks on end. Since, I have re-flashed a ROM (carbon Sunday by jusada if it helps) and I'm back on low memory.
I was wondering whether anyone knows why this would happen, and how I can get it to do it again.
All help appreciated

Maybe u cleared the cache?!
Anyway off topic, read about sd-ext partitions for more internal space
I think this will help you. if it does please THANK me.

Can't answer your question, but a little tip for people suffering for low user space; download Link2Sd from Market. Google for tutorials.
I'm rooted so I can move apps to the sd, its just some (widgets) dont work on the sd, Ill have a look at partitioning thanks, I dont think it was the cache, thanks anyway though

apps2sd ? right ?!
..mmmh..probably wrong to say here, but..the apps moved to the external sd card are expecting to be slower then before, when were on the internal one?
app2sd or use sd-ext partitions is your way to fix lower internal memory problem
Isn't app2sd built into GB? Am I missing something? Im using CyanogenMod 7

Apps2sd is the process of moving app files and not data to SD card after boot. This still keeps around 1-5 MB on the phone memory and can be done without root on 2.2+
A2SD involves partitioning ur memory card and using it as phone memory. This is mounted before boot so it's faster. Even the dalvik cache can be moved here
I have a 160 MB phone memory and after partitioning and installing 230 apps, I still have 120 MB free
THANK me if this was helpful

You Can Surely Have the Maximum Internal Space by Installing Darktremore App2sd script and moving Dalvic Cache to sd-ext using Apps2sdGui.
Although your internal Memory will still be used but very little bit, and only for house keeping as Some Apps Require Some of Their Files to be copied on Internal Phone Memory.

CM9 question

I'm having this issue where everything that's on my SD card is doubled sometimes tripled. So I have triple of the same pic/song/video. My question is will doing a factory reset on CM9 erase anything on the rom? I know it will clear all my data and apps but will I still have root and the same version of CM9? Noob question I know.
Sent from my S2 Skyrocket running CM9 9.1.0 stable
And if you have any reason why my ex SD card is doubling I would love to know why. Thanks guys
Sent from my S2 Skyrocket running CM9 9.1.0 stable
I have that too, but only for ringtones and notifications. Not sure why. Drives me nuts.
Yeah I have over 1000 mp3 and now I have 2300 and the ones that are copies don't even play!!
Sent from my S2 Skyrocket running CM9 9.1.0 stable
yeah i used to have this problem but only on skyics. not really sure why...
anyways you can go to settings > apps > then media storage and just clear the data in there.
the duplicates came back when i did it but not for a couple days. hope this temp fix helps =D
Hmm, are they duplicating on the actual sd card? Or on the internal sd card/internal memory?
Edit: and to answer your question. You'll be fine with a factory reset. CM9 will be fine and you should not lose root.

For me, I believe they're only duplicated in the notification/ringtone dialogues. I haven't actually looked on the SD to see. Last time I looked, I think I had 5 separate instances of the Facebook Pop notification, for example, and 3 each of the ringtone and 2 notification tones I created.
Interesting I checked mine, and I am not doubled on anything. Maybe pop into root explorer and check? It would be interesting to see what you find...

I did find 2 instances of the Facebook Pop (both in /sdcard/media/audio/notifications and in /emmc/media/audio/notifications), but only 1 instance of my created ringtones.
I need to go through and clean up my internal and external memory, I just don't know what to delete.
I have the same exact problem and im on cm10.....wonder if its a bug in cyanogenmod??? Clearing the media storage data as mentioned works but only for a day or two.....only happens with my ext sd card too.....also formatted my sd card and tried a different one as well and got the same results

I had a thought on this...
CMx and AOKP recognize /emmc, /sdcard, as well as /mnt/emmc, /mnt/sdcard, /mnt/sdcard0 (external) and /mnt/sdcard1 (internal). Those extra recognitions might be contributing to the duplicates...
I have that issue too lol

if the rom you're using is also copied to the sd or internal storage and uncompressed , the system reads the true file and the one in the "spare" uncompressed rom on sd .. result is "ringtone"*2 or notification *2

Suggestion for New ICS Rom Dev

Hello all, now that ICS update is coming out for our little Blaze, I'm sure there will be lots of devs. I'm not sure how the Memory is setup on the ICS Rom, but the current GB on our Blaze has a very limited "Internal SD Memory" (Around 1.3gig, I believe) to install apps. Might I make a suggestion to the devs to include script manager tweaks in the upcoming ICS Roms so that default storage for apps be pointed to the "External SD" where we have more memory? Thanks!

Absolutely can be done via app from market and also manage apps. Apps2sd is in the market and worked well.

Apps in the market do not move data.that's what we want. Gta takes up one gig alone

I know what you guys are talking about. But what I meant is if I was to download a large game that is over 1.4 gigs, it wont have enough memory to save on the "Internal SD". What you mentioned only works if you already have the apps downloaded.
Sent from my SGH-T769 using xda app-developers app
I used an app about a year ago called s2e . I can't be 100% sure but it moved app and data to external. I came from a G1 which had no internal memory . that phone was great but limited on space . if its not available there might be a similar app. good luck

I'll make sure it gets attention from the TFQ team. I can do it easily but I'd have to wipe both partitions to guarantee that no side effects happen.

I'd be happy with that. As it is easy to back them up via PC anyways. Plus with the move to ICS, I plan of completely starting form scratch and re-installing all apps from source, no backups short of the ones that are not available anymore.
Could DirectoryBind work?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1410262
When we get source, we can rewrite the package manager to point to sdcard instead of mmc then you won't have to worry about an app and/or doing it manually...

[Q] help me. galaxy tab 2 7.0 gt-3113

OK I was flashing the paranoid android ROM a few months back on my galaxy tab 2 7.0 3113 and I lost half of my compacity I am the type of person who downloads watches lots of movies and listen to alot music I would really like to have it back. any suggestions on how to fix it please hey buddy help anyone okay
Have you been making nandroid back ups ? How much is under "Misc" ? Looks around 700mb ? ( but the yellow maker is covering it up )
Looks to me you need to do some house keeping to tidy up the storage space, easy enough to do.
What recovery are you using on the device ?
you've got OVER 2 gigs of app data folders on the internal there, open your file browser and look for folders of apps you've deleted and delete them, also remember YOU HAVE A MICROSD SLOT, you can add more storage for music and movies.
do any of your streaming apps keep a large "buffer", could try clearing app data.

that doesnt explain why my 8gig tab 2 only has 4gigs usable
Its the system partition that eats up the rest, as far as I know. That is why only just under

That's just the way it is. Kind of like when you insert a 32gb micro sd card you automatically lose nearly 4gb down to 29.7gb.
If you've been making backups chances are the cwm folder has a nice size file well over 1gb

Rooting has basically nothing whatsoever to do with the problem. Why does everyone think that just cause u rooted ur phone/ tablet now becomes mentally retarded?
I would look around in the system files. I had the same problem, there was this file idk how the hell got there and was like 4 gigs. Just try to locate the file and delete it.

Pretty sure you can go to a folder browser then couldn't u sort all them by size by bigger sizes descending. So what i mean is the biggest files would show up on top. Then you could look around and see if one of the bigger files is not needed.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1970961 here is another thread talking about pretty much the same thing. I agree with one of the posters, about just swapping the storage with the external sd card. I haven't personally had great luck with android 4.2.x, but there is a great script for p311x on xda that swaps them on ics and jb 4.1.x just fine. Its what I use, and also why im not running anything past 4.1.2.

Storage problem?

Hi, I have not updated my phone in a while, I currently have cyanogenmod version (11-20140221-NIGHTLY-t769)(android version 4.4.2). I am planning on updating to newer versions of cm11 but I've had this one issue that has been bugging me for a while now. I think there is a problem with the storage on my phone. Whenever i try to download something it says "not enough space available". I am aware that some apps can not be moved to sd card but I am getting different reads when i check my phone storages. When i connect my phone to the computer it says (Internal storage 1.39 Gb totalsize, 920mb free) and (sdcard 7.38gb totalsize,2.78free) Is it normal to have 2 internal storages? I've been trying to resolve this issue for a while now but I do not know what the problem is. Below are some screenshots of what i am talking about:
http://imgur.com/a/rogD8
Also, is it okay to delete the files listen from /clockworkmod?
Thanks in advance!!!
If you look at storage in cm the first one listed is where apps download and install. Clear app cache to make room.
