[KERNEL] Camera fail - Galaxy Note II, Galaxy S III Developer Discussion

DEVICE: GT N7100 international
ISSUE: Camera fail only on some device, running a DMG1 (asian) custom rom.
Hi all. My compiled custom kernel causes a camera fail only on few devices, as stated above. Flashing some other kernel (like Adam for example) fixes the issue, than re-flashing my kernel the camera continue work.
Maybe related to the fix for exynos exploit included? I have no idea: why only on few devices (mine is ok) and not all?
HERE are my sources i am working on.
If anyone, willing to help, needs some other information i am here.
NOTE: At the moment my kernel does not support debug features (disabled on def_config) so no DMesg, but only android logcat. I will change the configuration as soon as possible and when available i will post dmesg here, if needed.

Sorry for bumping...but after a whole day in brain storming i have no clue at all....is there anybody out there?

Ehm...why?

Actually I cant recall who but someone reported same who tried building kernel from Andreilux git, may be Andreilux git soudce /note2 has some bug somewhere, not only you'd see camera fc but as well unable of video playback.

Would be useful to know more detail about this.
Anyway in my case scenario the camera is not force closing but the issue is a "camera error" warning (like a library issue i think).
Tomorrow i will build a version within debug features enabled, so i can investigate further.
Thanks for your reply.

This is a problem.
The person that is experiencing the issue (that its not me, i am not able to reproduce the error unfortunately) is not available.
I tried to contact him since yesterday but no responding at all. Damn....
As soon as he becames on line i will ask to reproduce error and grab both logcat and dmesg. Thank you anyway.

It's for Permissive status on SELinux. If you have nothing good to say how about you don't say anything at all? Or you read the actual OP before you make a stupid remark!

Did you also read the part in the op "to allow adb connection with root" or you didn't read it either.
For me that is already available with the stock kernel and was just wondering what the op meant by it.

[DEV][C2105][Kernel][TWRP]Compiling Sony Kernel Sources for Kitkat

I am very interested in porting Xperia L to OmniRom and had starting work on it. The kitkat sources is already available anyway(see here). Compiling it is easy, just follow the instructions. I now have a working kitkat rom which unfortunately seem to have a serious bug of unable to go into deep sleep(dropped >40% over a night).
I have started work on the kernel sources and wish to invite all developers who are interested to work together.
For those of you with wifi issue, make sure that you are on stock rom 15.3.A.x.x
Extracted from Sony opensource
Most of the AOSP for Xperia L device configurations are cloned from the official Xperia L software version 15.3.A.0.x, so please make sure that you upgrade the phone software to, for example 15.3.A.0.26, before flashing the AOSP for Xperia L images, or certain functions like WiFi may not work.
Known issues/workaround:
1. There are some missing KLOG information that prevent building of the kernel( fix by disabling CCI_KLOG)
2. Deep sleep issue seem to be caused by wait_for_irsc_completion timeout(workaround by disabling
MSM_IPC_ROUTER_SECURITY)
3. Enable reboot recovery

Have not worked with CAF kernel before. Moreover, the most important thing now is to get a stable working kernel for kitkat before embarking on anything else.
I will update my progress here in this thread. Its good to keep the communication open here so that others can also contribute/help. Right now, I can successfully compiled the zImage. Going to test it out later on.
update: notice that you have the 15.3.A.1.14 sources. Where did you get it from? My phone was running on this build before I flashed the AOSP 4.4 rom. Dont you have the CCI_KLOG compilation error on 15.3.A.1.14?
I got playing with kit kat for few days and when the phone try to go in deep sleep there is QSEECOM errors that stopped the freezing...
Im not a pro dev,so I might be wrong.

Which ROM did you test from? I just flashed the one I compiled from source last night so did not get to test much. What I did noticed was that the battery dropped >40% overnight. I suspect that it might not have gone into deep sleep.
@KillerKink getting the zimage is easy you will have to make certain changes to kernel/ramdisk to make it compatible to KK

Google Camera App + Cyanogenmod11

Okay so by now everyone here should know that Google just released its Google Camera app on Play Store (gosh I guess I won't see Nexus 10 mk2 afterall)
But I have a big problem with it. I have Nexus 5 Cyanogenmod11 snapshot m5 and camera crashes on launching HDR+ every single time. I had similar problem app pulled from stock nexus 5 (can be found everywhere on the net) - it acted the same although that one needed app data wipe to even launch again. Is cyanogen missing some libraries for camera or something like that?
How can I make it work?
Is there a way to see a detailed crash log and fix the problem?
Anyone envountered similar issue?

Custom omni rom build with multi-window

I've seen that some galaxy devices have a home-build type OmniROM besides their usual nightlies with multi-window and the new theme engine enabled. Is anybody doing something similar for our beloved Nexus? A pretty thorough search through the threads resulted in disappointment with myself for not being knowledgeable enough to compile it myself.
the multi window is a feature of some galaxy devices, its not possible on the nexus 5. it would also need samsungs framework, which isnt open source. omni is built on open source.

I don't think the version matters that much. The point is: some galaxy devices have up-to-date builds with functional multi window (more or less, i suppose it's still very buggy) and I can't find anything similar for our device which is supposed to have a bigger community behind it.
I want to clarify that I don't take anything for granted and I am very thankful for the already great development scene. It's just a question which crossed my mind recently.

[REQ] mod timer for interruptions on latest lollipop

Samsung in their never ending quest to nerf android features and pissing off customers, "forgot" to put a timer for the interruptions. It was also like that on their previous leak but I saw some custom roms with it. So anyone can be kind enough to make a module to fix the interruptions timer please?
Thanks in advance

I have been using Tasker to activate interruptions. If you have that app you can do the same.
Interesting! I am sure Samsung didn't forget. I am just guessing they are using the first Leak firmware and released it as official maybe just some minor fixes. Because I still can see problem with wallpaper not being applied correctly on lockscreen. Maybe if I can see difference what is difference with second leak I would fix and enable it.
If I remembered correctly when I search on this problem, which is also present in S5 official lollipop. Samsung actually replied to a user mentioning that they forgot and it's a bug that will be fixed in future releases.
Just found this:
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/faq/FAQ00075597/114256/SM-G900VZKAVZW
So in S5 all is ok now?
Can anyone confirm it?
The reason is that the second leaked is newer firmware than official lolipop and first leaked of course. Look at the build date of kernels.
Yes I know. But one thing that happened to me was that I flashed Arya mod 3.1, set the timer for interruptions and then dirty flashed the stock ROM from Vodafone NL and guess what? The timer are missing from the options but the timed interruptions still trigger at the hour I set them up on Arya mod lol.
