Rooting the Akaso Kingpad 7 (aka R7X) RK3066 Tablet - Miscellaneous Android Development

I tried several of the root methods out there for RK3066 devices and all had hiccups.
This worked for me though-
1) Download Moborobo on your Windows PC, install it, run it. MAKE SURE IT IS OPEN ON YOUR SCREEN AND NOT MINIMIZED OR CLOSED THROUGH THIS ENTIRE PROCEDURE. This appears to no longer work- Mobo is unable to install the driver- instead, download and install PDANet for Windows from here: http://pdanet.co/a/ and choose "Other" when prompted for tablet type. Plug in your device when prompted, and PDANet will install the driver. Uncheck the options to start PDANet connection sharings.
2) Set the following on your tablet: Screen timeout to 10 min, turn on USB Debug mode, allow Unknown Sources in Security.
3) Plug the R7X in to your PC by USB. Click yes, allow, accept, to anything that pops up. Soon Moborobo will have downloaded and installed the correct driver for your device. DON'T CLOSE MOBOROBO, LEAVE IT OPEN BEHIND YOUR OTHER WINDOWS!
3) Download the attached file RootR7X.zip; extract it. In it is a script which is a modification of the "TPSARKY" one from VonDroid based on sunnydave's work.
4) Double-click the batch file ROOTKingpadR7X.bat. Follow the on-screen instructions, which will have the device reboot 3 times.
5) Install RootChecker from Play Store to confirm root.
6) Install SuperSU from the Play Store. Open it and let it update your SU binary using the 'normal' method.
WHAT DID I CHANGE IN THE SCRIPT?
The original script kept failing on me near the end while pushing the apks to the device- running it from command line with the 'echo off' lines removed showed some ADB permissions errors. I simply added this line to the script to mount /system as rw:
Code:
adb shell "su -c 'mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock8 /system'"
...and then it worked. Device is rooted.
Hope this helps someone.

is the bootloader on this tablet unlocked???

One Click Root Version for Linux and Works for Mac, too!
This is still a work in progress! Gonna call it 3.3 (I went through 3 previous versions). It takes the 2.2.1 version and adds a user interface. Nice, easy, clean. In order to run this script, you need to chmod (change permission) of the .sh file, and then execute it.
Download the file here: http://kimete.com/droid/beta/dorootv3.sh
It is good for both Linux and Mac. All you have to do is execute it and the script will download all the appropriate files for you!
How to run this in Ubuntu/Linux
How-to video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvlB3e_UE8I
Note: General idea. You no longer need to update android-sdk, though.
1. Download the file.
2. Right-click the file, choose properties, choose the permission tab, and check executing file as program, close window
3. Double-click the file, choose Run in Terminal, and it'll start.
4. Choose 1 for install and root. Choose 2 for root process only. Only good if you've rooted using this method before, or you need to reroot your phone. Choose 3 to unroot. Choose 4 for credits/donation information. Choose 5 to exit. Choosing other numbers...
How-to for Mac
How-to video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7s8dtfYyHI
Note: General idea. You no longer need to download and install android-sdk anymore.
1. Download dorootv3.sh. Best to put it on your desktop.
2. Open a terminal. Go to the magnifying glass and type in terminal, and then select it.
3. Next, you need to change permissions. Type in the terminal chmod 0755 followed with a single space. Then drag the dorootv3.sh into terminal.
You should see something like this chmod 0755 /user/(file path)/dorootv3.sh. Press enter.
4. Now run your file by dragging the file into the terminal again and pressing enter!
5. Now choose and option...

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my anti-virus tell me that the files contain Trojan's?
The files are exploits and hack your phone. Don't worry, they are clean. However, to be safe, do not download from any other source than the ones linked in this post.
I've gotten countless hate mail and comments on Youtube users about rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin being detected as a trojan. It is an EXPLOIT. If you are scared that the files I hosted are going to give your computer a virus. Look else where, like Z4Root, though, my understanding is that Z4Root also uses rage.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=853704
What is do these files/programs/scripts do?
These scripts will root your Droid 2 or Droid X phone with the least amount of user input as possible.
Why should we use this method and not another method?
All the methods are based off the same process/procedure. If you feel like doing MORE work, we can't stop you. The reason why we wrote all these scripts is to expedite the process, make the procedure easier, and to reduce human input which reduces the chance of human error.
Is there anything I need to know in order to successfully root my phone?
Yes. READ THE DIRECTIONS. Read the directions first. A lot of people make errors because they don't read the directions. I've also provided links to my video and another video which outlines the root process. Both are only a few minutes long.
Root failed! What do I do?
Run the script again! Most people succeed on the first or second try. Usually the rest by the third try.
Do I have to install Android SDK and update it?
It depends. The new Linux/Mac version does not require you to. The windows one, we are still working on.
Does this work on other phones?
I can't answer that. I know it works for Droid 2 and Droid X.
Wait a minute, this isn't really one-click! What's the deal?
Deal with it. Don't like it, try the 25+ step process.
When I open up the Superuser app, I get a blank screen.
That is NORMAL. Superuser lists the processes/applications that you've allowed superuser access to. If you haven't allowed anything, then it will be blank.
How do I test if I have root or not?
Try downloading an app like Wireless Tether (published by Google), and running it.
What USB connection mode do I set my phone to?
PC Mode or Charge Only. Choose the one that comes up with USB Debugging.
I am not very good with computers. Is this something I can do?
Oh yes! The key to success is following the directions.
How do I update Android SDK?
On Windows, you just need to double click the SDK Manager.exe. On Linux/Mac, you need to go into terminal, navigate to the tools folder in the android sdk folder, and run this command ./android update sdk. More information can be found in the SDK Readme text file. On Windows, double-click and run the SDK Manager.
I am getting stuck at the "daemon not found/daemon is starting" part. What do I do?
You need to fumble with the settings on your phone. You don't need to close the terminal. Change between PC Mode and Charge Only mode until it starts to continue. If that still doesn't work, also try disabling then enabling USB debugging for each mode.

Reporting an Error or a Problem
You can report errors right here in this thread. Make sure you give us as much information as possible. List what operating system you are on, what phone you have, at what part of the script you had errors, and anything else you may have tried or done. The more information you provide us, the better we understand situations. Posting up pics or logs of the terminal is extremely helpful.

-Cleanup code.
-Address issue where I thought I was killing a hanging rage, but I wasn't (It was a syntax thing)
-Fix for ERROR6 or ERROR5 (this was drastically different than what I did in windows. I wasn't returning exactly a string in format I thought when doing the check, so I had to do some ridiculous stuff to process it.)
-Better error resolution. (more error checking)
-Refined unroot.
-Reboot if you had files from a previous root
-Now the script will automagically download needed root files if they are not in your folder. (If you are behind a proxy, make sure your mac or linux has curl or wget configured for proxies respectively)

Appreciate my work and/or help, feel free to send donations my way! Poor college student here who just got a speeding ticket! Doh!
This is outdated information and should be used as a reference only! All updated versions have moved to POST #1.
Hi all. Made it to the front page of XDA Developers.
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/easy-rooting-method-for-droid-2/
I just want to make sure credit is given where due. First of all, the original procedure was produced Sebastian Krahmer. From there I wrote an indepth tutorial to root the Droid 2. I took a vague instruction set and help it grown into something that the average person could understand. Understanding the need to simplify the process, I decided to write scripts to further streamline the process. What started out as a 3 part script that involved 8 or 9 commands eventually became a two part script that involved 3 or 4 commands. I have no programming background, by the way. Having trouble getting the process down into one part, facelessuser volunteered to take my work, and put a bunch of neat things into it to get it to work as one thing with error checking! So, with that said, I'd like to thank everyone that had a part in the project, especially facelessuser for his dark magic arts that made the script run, matt4542 for constantly testing my various scripts, and everyone who directly or indirectly ran the scripts!
We are moving forward!

Hi all.
We (me), facelessuser, and a few others are working furiously to get an easy one step program out for you guys. In the mean-time, I have a pretty safe, and clean, and easy 2 step method for Windows, Mac, and Linux. I am still cleaning stuff up, but for the most part, it all runs well.
What you need:
Android-SDK for your operating system which can be found here:
http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
Motorola Drivers (if you are using Windows) which can be found here:
http://www.motorola.com/Support/US-...tware_and_Drivers/USB-and-PC-Charging-Drivers
And the files/scripts/programs to root for your OS:
Want to try the one step process, go down to post #2!
Windows [1.0]: http://www.kimete.com/droid/DORootforD2Windows.zip
Mac/Linux [1.0]: http://www.kimete.com/droid/DORootforD2Linux.zip
Instruction for Windows:
GO DOWN TO POST #2 AND DOWNLOAD THE ONE STEP
1. Extract and Update Android SDK package to your computer. The file comes in a zip file. Just open it up and drag and drop the android-sdk-windows folder to your C drive. Next, extract the files from the DORoot zip file to the tools folder of Android SDK. You should be moving 7 or 8 files into the tools folder.
2. Install Motorola Drivers
(Tip, to stop the launching of the Verizon/Motorola site, go to the MotoConnect icon in the bottom right, right click, when phone connects, nothing.)
3. Make sure you phone is in PC Mode with USB Debugging enabled
PC Mode: Notification blind -> USB connection -> PC Mode
USB Debugging: Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB debugging
You need USB debugging icon showing in notifications. Try Charge Only if you can't get PC Mode to show USB debugging.
4. Double-click and run doroot1.bat
5. Follow the instructions. You will enter into the shell and be prompted with a $.
6. enter [./data/local/tmp/rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin] and let it run. Can take up to 15 minutes before it boots you out.
6a. To check if rageagainstthecage worked it's magic, enter the shell with adb shell. You should see a # sign. If you don't, you need to run rageagainstthecage again by entering the command from step six.
6b. If you see the #, exit the shell by typing exit.
7. After being booted from shell and back to DOS, enter or double click doroot2.bat
8. That's it, you are done.
Instruction for Linux and Mac:
GO DOWN TO POST #2 AND DOWNLOAD THE 1-STEP!
1. Extract and Update Android SDK package to your computer. The file comes in a .tar.gz file. Just open it up and drag and drop the android-sdk-linux folder to your home directory or desktop. Next, extract the files from the DORoot zip file to the tools folder of Android SDK. You should be moving 7 or 8 files into the tools folder.
2. Make sure you phone is in PC Mode with USB Debugging enabled

Money will be spent on escorts, food, adult beverages, higher education and its bs fees, paying off my phone, and the wonderful speeding ticket I got this week!
Hey Thanks alot for writing this! I just tried it out and ran until completion.
A few things I found.
In the dos prompt, part2 the program asks user to input a few commands. Commands 2 and 3 should end in .sh. The program dosent mention this.
Thanks again
Typo in the 3rd step. You forgot to add '.sh'.

Doh. Good catch y'all. I will take care of that now!
Problem
Everytime i type: $ ./doroot2.sh
i get:
./doroot2.sh
./doroot2.sh: not found
thank for the help!
The " ./ " before doroot.sh tells linux to look in the current directory for the file to run. Make sure you in the tools directory of the sdk and that the script is there as well.

I am working on it. Hahaha. I don't have any programming background. So I am learning on the fly, but progress is being made.
Though, I have to say that the process is much much much easier than what it originally began as. So... moving in the right direction.
I'm not much of a programmer. I'm on Windows. Do I need to chmod the files, and if so, how would I do that?

Just follow the instructions. Launch the doroot1.bat file. The .bat file will launch you into ADB shell. chmod the doroot2.sh file, then run it. adb shell again. chmod the doroot3.sh file and run that. Hope that helps. I am on google talk if you need help.
I'm stuck on the second step. Attempting to contact you through Google Talk...
Thanks, by the way.
please help!
i rooted manually and when i try to open superuser permissions icon i get a black screen...should i follow your steps to root now and will that work ??

You are okay. Superuser lists the program you've allowed superuser access to. You haven't given any apps access, therefore blank!

Newbie help with rooting Asus Transformer Prime via ViperMOD

I have never rooted an android device before and this is my first time. The reason I'm rooting is so I can enable the Virtuous Prime ROM (the guide for Virtuous Prime suggested to use ViperMOD to root first)
[ROOT] [TOOL][Updated 2.22.12]viperMOD PrimeTime v4.5 | Auto Root/Unroot/Busybox/CMW - xda-developers
^I'm following the instructions from the link above word for word. So far I've met the following Criteria:
-Enabled USB Debugging
-Running build 9.4.2.15
-Have "ASUS Android Composite ADB Interface" drivers installed and updated
I downloaded the ViperMOD 4.5 zip and extracted it to my PC. I opened the folder and right clicked on "viperMOD Primer Tool v4.5 - copy.bat". A cmd popped up with several different options; I pressed 1 to root, and pressed enter to skip the following two prompts (that ask if USB debugging is enabled and asus usb drivers are installed).
The CMD then showed the following message:
*daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037*
*daemon started successfully*
However the CMD just stopped there. It didn't show the following flood of text that should show up when rooting w/ ViperMod (like shown in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3OQkxmUyLc at 2:35)
I'm not sure if I'm missing something here. The guide however did say that I needed to "Kill Asus Sync and Splashtop" though I'm not exactly sure what it means by "kill". I don't have Splashtop running on my Prime nor Splashtop remote running on my PC. I also don't have ASUS Sync software installed on my PC and I disabled Auto-Sync on my Prime (HOWEVER, the ASUS Sync icon is still visible in my Prime's notification bar when I connect it via USB to my PC).
Any advice?
I had a similar problem
I tried to use superoneclick to root my Samsung Gravity and it hung on waiting for phone. I used the adb commands to load the zergRush exploit. So you need to find which exploit works on your phone, adb push the exploit, busybox, and su to your phone and use adb shell to do the root.
** DISCLAIMER: I'm pulling this command sequence out of my memory... you should find a better guide but this stuff may give you clues as to what to google for, or if you're familiar with shell you may see the gist of what you're trying to do **
The commands will look something like this:
adb push exploitfilename
adb push busybox.apk
adb push su
adb shell
chmod 755 exploitfilename
./exploitfilename
(wait for the exploit to finish)
pm install busybox.apk
pm install su.apk
reboot
Once it rebooted, I installed terminal through the market so I could do cool stuf like so:
su
mount -o remount,rw /dev/whateverdevhasyoursystemfolder /system
rm /system/app/Vendorgarbagebloatapp.apk
and so forth. Knowledge of linux and shell commands is your friend here for sure. Basically, you should know what you're doing or don't do it. I'm no fan of one-clicks for anything like this, it's too hard to figure out what went wrong if it goes wrong, plus this way you can learn new skills.
Can't seem to run Vipermod
I am trying to run vipermod on my computer but when I try to run it, it flashes on the screen for less than a second and then re-closes.
For a little extra info I have a tf101 running the 9.2.1.17 build
My computer is running the window 8 developers copy( no i'm not a dev just love testing new things before most other people.)
I've tried running it as an admin and in compatibility mode but have had no success as of yet any help would be greatly appreciated.

How to root xolo x900

hello there can any one help me to root xolo x900 i had tried every thing that is available in internet every thing failed is there any way to root it
First make sure you have the following
- Xolo ICS update installed.
- Intel USB driver for Windows
- The Root Installer
-------------------------------------------------
Then,
- Enable USB Debugging mode and then connect your Phone to PC.
- Extract root installer archive and run the runme.bat file.
- In your PC, type 1 in the command prompt for “Make a choice”. your device will ask for Full Restore. You will not loose data. Select Restore my data. Finally, your device will reboot twice and you will be rooted. Note that your screen may flash before the second reboot which is fine.
Managed to Root my xolo x900
I think I've found a way to root my x900. It's currently running the latest version of SuperSU 2.16 and has the stericson busybox installed.
I've tried rooting the x900 with all possible methods and have never been successful. Especially the part where it says 'restore started' then 'restore ended' almost immediately. By no means am I an expert on this and the following was achieved with a lot of trial and error, I've tried to put it down in the simplest way I could.
Warning: Try the following at your own risk.I do not wish to be held responsible for any damage your phone might incur.
These were my steps:
1.I extracted the boot.img(a) from the orange-sandiego ics signed update file found at modaco forum
2. I extracted the boot.img(b) from the official rom downloaded from androidxda.
3. Download and install minimal adb and fastboot installer from XDA forums along with the Intel-usb and adb drivers from androidxda.
4. Download the latest Superuser binary and .apk .zip from the official XDA thread
5. Download the stericson.busybox.apk from the internet.
6. Place the boot images[(a) and (b) renamed to your preference] in the main folder of the minimal adb/fastboot exe, found in C: program files x86...... Also unzip the SU file and place su from the x86 folder and the Superuser.apk into the main adb/fastboot folder along with the busybox.apk.
4. Turn on usb debugging and switch off the phone.
5. Hold vol-up + power keys for about 10seconds to put the phone into bootloader mode. It should say 'droidboot' on the screen.
6. Open a command prompt from the adb/fastboot desktop shortcut you have after you're done installing the adb/fastboot exe.
7. Type in
fastboot devices
Your device will be listed, then type in
fastboot flash boot boot.img(a)
This will flash the boot.img from the orange-ics-update, then type
fastboot reboot
Your phone should now reboot to system but the screen will not be functional and will only show different colors.
8. Now type
adb devices
To confirm your device is visible. Follow this with:
adb shell
su
mount -o rw,remount /system
exit
exit
adb push su /sdcard/su
adb shell
su
cat /sdcard/su > /system/xbin/su
ln -s /system/xbin/su /system/bin/su
chmod 6755 /system/xbin/su
exit
exit
adb install Superuser.apk
adb install stericson.busybox.apk
adb reboot bootloader
9. Now once again after confirming that the device is recognized in fastboot do this:
fastboot flash boot boot.img(b)
fastboot reboot
Your phone will now reboot to system, and it will have root access and busybox installed.
Good Luck.

I've tried all versions of framaroot before, none worked, neither does towel root, cydia impactor, v-root or shuame root helper.
Wicked! Thanks for that.
Are you able to install a full Linux distro on the device after it is rooted or is the bootloader still locked?

How to access the BIOS on a Lenevo Tab S8-50 !

Thanks to @social-design-concepts , we are now able to access the UEFI Setup on the Lenovo Tab S8-50; In order to do that, you must first follow these steps:
Requirements :
1- A Computer, preferably windows.
2- A micro USB cable to plug the Tab into the computer.
3- You must have the proper ADB drivers installed.
Steps:
1- Make sure your Tablet has been rooted, and has at least 50 % battery life just in case.
2- Plug in your Tablet, and you should see a window open up on your tablet, which says to either connect as a Media Device, or a Camera. Make sure to check the Media option. Make sure to also check the box that says USB Debugging.
3- Once all those steps are completed, you must download the attached ADB file suite I compiled from the Android Developer Kit. It has no virus so don't worry.
4- Once the files are download, and you are sure your tablet is connected, extract the files to your desktop.
5- Open the up the extracted folder, which should be named as "adb", and press the Shift key on your keyboard, and right click anywhere until you see "Open command window here" option in the drop down menu.
6- You should see a command prompt window appear which says " c: \adb > "
7- you want to first type in " adb push efibootmgr32 /data/local/tmp/efibootmgr " without the quotation marks obviously.
8- Then you want to type in " adb shell "
9- If you did the previous step correctly the command line should change to " [email protected]:/ $ " or something like that.
10- After seeing that message, you want to then hit the space bar once after the $ sign and type in " cd /data/local/tmp "
11- Then it should look something like this " [email protected]:/data/local/tmp $ "
12- Simply type in the word " su " and it should change to " [email protected]:/data/local/tmp # "
13- You then need to type in " chmod 6755 efibootmgr " after the pound sign, just make sure there is one space between " chmod " and the #
14- Then, like the previous command, make sure there is one space between the pound sign and the command " ./efibootmgr -? " and once you type that in, you should see a long list appear.
15- Then after that you want to type in with the space between the # sign and this following command " ./efibootmgr -v "
16- Then you want in " ./efibootmgr -n 0001 "
17- Finally, you need to type in " reboot -p "
18- This will reboot your tablet, but you must manually turn it back on.
19- You will see a long list of random commands in yellow and white flash on your screen.
20- make sure you have a powered otg usb cable powered by a separate power source other then your tablet in order to connect a keyboard
21- Once that is plugged into your tablet, type in " exit "
22- you should be greeted by a white screen with a blue bar on top and a bunch of commands.
22- That is how you access the bios.
- You now have the option to modify many other options, such as disabling fast boot in order to install windows, allocate more gpu memory and so on.
- here is the link to the original link where you get a better view as to what the commands should look like.

Hopefully this works. NOTE: I am not responsible for any damage that may be caused to your device.
Dobry den
mam lenovo tab s8-50l nejde boot failed. EFI hard drive help
Stupid me
I was messing with the options in the bios of the s8-50f, i have changed some of the settings and it no longer displays an image on the screen. I'm confident it is still working so does anyone know any key press during boot to reset the bios to defaults??
I can remember typing exit at the shell, moving down 3 to device manager and press enter and enter again. This should get onto the screen to load bios defaults but i can't remember the position of the option to load defaults or to commit changes.
Many thanks and sorry for wasting your valuable time.
Hi thanks a lot.
1. Is it possible to install Win 10 64 bit on this tablet? if so, then what about drivers like graphic?
2. is it possible to get into bios options page on each restart? maybe I want to change the boot option back to the Android.
regards

Don't I wish. There was not even enough dev support to get CM on this tablet when it was new, let alone years later. Most people have moved on, sadly. It is too bad because this device still has decent hardware and could probably be a decent device to multiboot droid and Windows. I had high hopes when it was first released that it could be used as a watered down surface with the ability to boot android.
I don't think it is impossible and I still have hope but hardly anyone even posts in the thread these days.
everything is right till step 19.what is wrong?
we turning on the device but the next step does not happened.
Keyboard
Hi, everything is fine but when i plug in micro usb with keyboard And turn on tablet some yellow commands are on the screen but i cant type , nothing happens. IT IS self powered , IT works in normal Android mode but not in that almost BIOS . Help me please
Mediatek devices can flashed with locked bootloader. Make a backup with SP Flash Tool. flash TWRP, then immediately boot into recovery. install SuperSU or Magisk
Completed all the steps, now whenever I restart tablet, I can't boot into android, it goes to the bios directly. Please some help?
hi, thanks, but where to download efibootmgr32?

[HOW-TO] Temporary Root on BNTV460

Easy way to get root access on BNTV460 (Nook Tablet 7" with Android Oreo)
This is a simple way of getting temporary root access on the Nook Tablet 7"(8.1.0 Go edition).
Needed materials:
The Nook you want temporary root on
A usb cable
A computer with ADB installed (I suggest using a Linux Distro for this because it doesn't require you to install drivers)
Big Note:
Any thing you do to mess up your device is on you. I am not responsible for your own actions. Modifying certain partitions while you have root may result in a device that needs to be reflashed.
Pre-setup:
1. Go to Settings < System < About tablet < Continuously tap on Build Number until it says you are now a developer
2. Exit Settings
3. Go to Settings < System < Developer options < Scroll down to USB Debugging and tap it so it is turned on.
1. First thing to do is to download the release file from https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/amazing-temp-root-mediatek-armv8-t3922213 under current version.
2. After that, extract the zip file you downloaded.
3. In a terminal, cd into the location of the mtk-su_rXX/arm (replace XX with the revision number of the file you downloaded).
Example cd command:
Code:
cd /home/yourusername/Downloads/mtk-su_r18/arm/
3.5. Plug in the Nook Tablet 7" into your computer and go into the notifications (swipe down from top). You should see something that says "Android System: USB charging this device. Tap it twice and choose Transfer Files. (If you don't do this, ADB won't work)
4. After that, follow the commands from the XDA page that you downloaded the file from except on the first one, replace path/to/mtk-su with mtk-su
5. If you follow the commands correctly, you should get
Code:
UID: 0 cap: 3fffffffff selinux: permissive
Uses for this:
If you know what you are doing having root is very useful. Big things you can do is backup your partitions to an external SD card so you can be assured you have them backed up in case you have to reflash them.
Issues with this method:
1. It goes away after every reboot
2. It sometimes gives permission denied
- This goes away if you restart the device and rerun mtk-su
Give all of your thanks to diplomatic on the thread about mtk-su, as he deserves any thanks he can receive for his amazing work.
