[Q] free portable WiFi hotspot - General Questions and Answers

Hi
I have a Sprint HTC one and an AT&T HTC one x. The one x has no active sim and runs over wifi. Problem being that I don't have WiFi everywhere I go. The HTC one is active and u want to turn it into a WiFi hotspot. Is there an app
that can do this without paying for the one that comes stock.
Thanks

WiFi hotspot on a rooted, ROMed out Inspire 4G.

I was just wondering. I know that AT&T charges for for the wireless hotspot feature, but if I using a rooted rom does it allow me to use free wireless hotspot? I'm just asking because it is currently available on my tmobile G2. I wasn't sure if AT&T was able to notice, or not. Thanks in advance fellas.

I have been doing it on my Nexus One running CM7 for the last year with no charges. I have also been doing it for the past week with my Inspire running CM7 with no charges.
Okay awesome. I appreicate it! That's the answer I wanted.

With some ROMS, the HTC hotspot will work. I am running stock rooted, and Barnacle Wi-Fi works for me.

Tmobile mobile hotspot free?

I just got the mytouch 4g today and I see that it had option to turn my phone into a wireless router. I am curious if this costs anything or not. I want to try it out but I don't have tethering on my plan and do not want a huge bill.

Try this:

But do you have a 3g sim card or 4g lte? I know that the hox needs a 4g lte sim in order to get data.

Its not clear what your issue is (what you are asking). Did you use the MicroSIM previously in the One X, and it works fine, and now it doesn't after using it (with adapter) in your Inspire?
I fixed it. I reset the APNs and it worked

You most likely need to enter an APN

Simple Mobile is T-Mobile, And the HTC One X only supports the Edge frequency on T-Mobiles towers. I heard that some areas are getting 3g that are compatible with the HTC One X's 3g bands but thats dependent on area.
I do have apn from simple mobile and it only says edge

Okay here's the deal: American service providers don't allow you to not get data plan with your phone. If you simply move a SIM from a non-data phone to a smart phone like the HOX they'll automatically add data to your plan.

I am in Australia, my htc sensational xl has the option to turn off the mobile network. while cm does not has the option/
Not sure what it's like there then. Just an aside (not topic related), are you sure you're on a One XL and not the international version then?
