Set up a Razr Maxx HD without an activated Verizon SIM card? - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I won a Razr Maxx HD from Motorola, and it just arrived. Before I sell it, I want to play around on Moto software and hardware. But it's stuck trying to activate. The phone came with a Verizon SIM, but I'm on att so I don't have access to a Verizon number. What can I do to be able to use it?

Friend with a Verizon sim. Or you should be able to just cancel setup I think. Or put a custom rom lol.

Turn screen clockwise and then tap it in all four corners starting from top left going clockwise.
It will bypass the sim screen.

Tapping in all four corners will work to get your past the "no SIM card" screen. Search and you'll find YouTube videos showing it done. When you try it, just keep tapping the four corners in a clockwise fashion until the screen changes to the regular setup screen. I've only done it a few times but that has worked every time.

Bottom corner of screen presses down...

I was wondering if anyone of you have experienced this issue. If I press down on the screen right under the search icon in the lower right corner, the glass ever so slightly, very softly presses down. Almost as if the glue is soft or there is nothing hard there. Also I get the screen discoloration that happens when you do that to an lcd screen.
I have read online that others have this issue and even the demo units at the att stores do it as well. Keep in mind that there is no light bleeding through and the glass is not raised just presses down.
What do you all think?

I noticed this on my aria. Its how I got it upgraded to the inspire. These screens are attached with a thin layer of double sided adhesive. Think of it as ultra thin 3m tape. I think it might actually keep the screen from breaking under light stress. I would keep an eye on it and if it gets worse maybe call HTC for repair.
Never had any issue with the digitizer because of it tho.

Thanks for the reply. Not sure how it makes me feel though. I don't think I'll return it just yet.

Mine does the same in the bottom. I've also noticed not all 4 corners are equally flush with the black ring that goes around the screen. O well, small thing really. Phone is so amazing.
Yeah I love this phone. I swapped it out and now everything is good. The only thing though is that out of the 3 they pulled out, 2 had dirt under the screen. That tells me we might need to figure something to fortify the screen better.

That bugs the hell out of me! I wish i would have saw that before my return period expired
Your phone has a 1 year warranty tho. So if it gets worse you can at least have it repaired. I would really suggest getting it fixed because that creates a paper trail.

mine does this too. I guess I'm heading to the AT&T store.
Did you have any issue swapping it out ? I'm 2 days past my 30

I tried to swap mine out within my 30 day period, and the sales guy told me he couldn't give me a new inspire (because the demo model and his personal one had the same issue) but would let me get an atrix. I still have my inspire, funky screen and all!
Mine does the same thing. I wonder if all of them do it? did the one you swapped for do it too?
Also when I went in and talked to the radio shack guy he told me that if I put something heavy on it overnight it would reattach to the double stick tape if I didnt want to return it. Also can your return a phone with this issue rooted and s-off? or do you need to go through the process of returning to stock?
I would take it back stock. It seems to be an issue that doesn't affect the phone. Only thing that sucks is returning it to find out the replacement is worst or better yet, get one with dust under the screen. Also it seems to be at the corner of the screen where you normally wouldn't press on the screen.

Mine new one is better
I had no problem trading mine in at all. My new one is much better. Well, actually it has no problems at all. My screen was making an audible clicking when I pressed it down. I just don't touch that section of the screen at all cause I am afraid to hear it again.
My screen is okay. I guess this problem is there for most devices with LCD touch screens. To make it slim/light/cheap the screen rests on a really thin platform I feel.
On a off topic : -This happened with my iPod. I went to the "genius" bar and that guy brought 10 different iPods out and showed me by pressing the bottom right part of the screen that this is "common" .... I had no better argument then.

Bypassing Activation Screen?

How could I bypass the activation screen successfully?
Supposedly you can touch all four corners starting with the left you can bypass it. But I have never needed to.
Sent from my DROID2 using xda premium
Touch the corners clockwise starting from top left.
On the first screen where it says touch the DROID to begin
Sent from my DROID2 GLOBAL using XDA App
just put ib sim card and try on back...i try this and it`s succesfull...
Sent from my DROID2 GLOBAL using xda premium
doesn't work for mi, please something else
when you touch the 4 corners, it is not the four corners of the screen, but the 4 corners of the activation window, i.e. below the top bar, and above the emergency dial buttons.

Overheating question.

When I watch a tv episode on the internet on my phone it gets really hot. And every time I'm done watching it and click the home button sense always re-starts. It goes to the "loading" screen. I was wondering if this was due to overheating? Does anybody else's phone do this too?

Nope, you are just away from the launcher long enough that the OS is unloading it from memory.
I forgot to mention that at the bottom of my screen every now and then there will be a gray box with "preparing sim" in it. What is this? And why is it doing this?

It's probably either because you are switching airplane mode on and off. All it means is that it's checking to see which phone number your phone has so you get access to the cell service you paid for. It really is trivial.
But never once have a turned airplane mode on.

Any lock screen apps that work??

Coming from an s3 one app I used quite often was a lock screen app. I installed the same one on my new RAZR and after the CRT animation flashes and goes black, the lock screen pops back up.
I've tried a few different apps and have the same result with each.
Has anyone found an app that works?? If so what is it??

He wants to know how to get to the device without activating a Sim card in it.
It used to be tapping in the four corners starting bottom left, then top left, top right then bottom right.
I don't know if that still works though.
Have you tried getting as far as you could then mashing the home button and hoping?

O it asks do you want to activate it as a WiFi only device now at least that's what it did for me on my gs4 the other day.

btw it top left then top right then bottom right then bottom left ( keep trying it) Or you can just keep hitting "activate" and the back button over and over again until the activation app crashes
I used to just mash the back and home button to get past it.

can i skip the activation process if i enter any sim card or its a must to activate it with a verizon sim?..bcz i was planning to get droid ultra but im not living in the U.S
Turn phone sideways / horizontal at the start screen and continually tap 4 corners starting at top left and going clockwise one at a time must be done fast. I've done it several times on the mini ultra and maxx before launch

Worked great thanks
I will be running the droid maxx on bell and rogers in Canada. Thanks for the info! Anyone else running the maxx or ultra up north? With the 1700 aws support I'm thinking LTE is possible too. I will post the results when it arrives later this week

Can't you try to insert any other gsm sim card? These phones are supposedly unlocked, even in the united states
I turned the phone in the landscape mode and started tapping the four corners beginning with the left bottom corner (so, that would be the top left corner in the normal portrait mode.
Then I kept tapping clockwise several times. Nothing happened.
Then I put the phone in the normal/ portrait mode and started tapping the corners. After few passes, the screen did change from the English (US/ UK) screen to something else (I can't remember now).
I already had a GSM SIM from local provider which did not work earlier.
Now, it is working.
BTW: I did a FXZ firmware install just prior to the activation bypass trick. So, I am not sure what worked for me.
It must be the FXZ firmware, that has really done the trick imho.. Esp flashing normal firmware over employee edition...
