He wants to know how to get to the device without activating a Sim card in it.
It used to be tapping in the four corners starting bottom left, then top left, top right then bottom right.
I don't know if that still works though.
Have you tried getting as far as you could then mashing the home button and hoping?

O it asks do you want to activate it as a WiFi only device now at least that's what it did for me on my gs4 the other day.

try to turn it on without a sim card then you should be able to skip the activation step (this is how you skip it on the droid dna)

btw it top left then top right then bottom right then bottom left ( keep trying it) Or you can just keep hitting "activate" and the back button over and over again until the activation app crashes
I used to just mash the back and home button to get past it.

can i skip the activation process if i enter any sim card or its a must to activate it with a verizon sim?..bcz i was planning to get droid ultra but im not living in the U.S
Turn phone sideways / horizontal at the start screen and continually tap 4 corners starting at top left and going clockwise one at a time must be done fast. I've done it several times on the mini ultra and maxx before launch

Activation
Worked great thanks
I will be running the droid maxx on bell and rogers in Canada. Thanks for the info! Anyone else running the maxx or ultra up north? With the 1700 aws support I'm thinking LTE is possible too. I will post the results when it arrives later this week

Just turn it on. and choose connect to wifi...
Can't you try to insert any other gsm sim card? These phones are supposedly unlocked, even in the united states
I turned the phone in the landscape mode and started tapping the four corners beginning with the left bottom corner (so, that would be the top left corner in the normal portrait mode.
Then I kept tapping clockwise several times. Nothing happened.
Then I put the phone in the normal/ portrait mode and started tapping the corners. After few passes, the screen did change from the English (US/ UK) screen to something else (I can't remember now).
I already had a GSM SIM from local provider which did not work earlier.
Now, it is working.
BTW: I did a FXZ firmware install just prior to the activation bypass trick. So, I am not sure what worked for me.
It must be the FXZ firmware, that has really done the trick imho.. Esp flashing normal firmware over employee edition...

Same issue here. I called both verizon and htc... they gave me the same answer. It is a roll out issue. Apparently because its in phases... whatever. My first tbolt came down fine; this is a replacement for a broken power button and now nothing. but at least I still have free tether! HA HA fail/win you decide.
Drop down to 1X and then search for it. Once you find the update, switch back to 3G/4G to expedite the download. Worked on my girlfriend's Thunderbolt.

Yep! i was rooted up until yesterday. While rooted I checked for & successfully detected it. But I rejected. Did a full backup using TiB and ROMManager first then unrooted. Now that I am unrooted, I cannot detect the update anymore. Been trying for 24hrs.
Just going to give up and reroot using the rooted update.

dropping to 1X doesn't work for me. However, here's how you drop to 1X:
Dial *#*#4636#*#*
Then go to "Phone Info"
Scroll down and choose "CDMA Only" from the Drop Down. Note the setting before you change it so as to revert later on.
Good Luck and let us know if it works for you.

haha, yes it does. If the battery cover doesn't sit properly, your 4g antenna doesn't work worth crap because it has contacts in it....
Reason why half of the extended battery covers don't work...

Don't know for sure but there's an identical topic in general that says that method doesn't work, that the phone sets back to defaults. Check it again to see if it stuck. Also reboot and check. Are you close to or in a poor lte area where your phone keeps trying to connect? Pretty sure if you aren't in an lte market it shouldn't matter.
Edit: I just tried and I could only change it to 3 of the choices on the list(ones with auto in name)They all had LTE. Anything else just reverts back to the original instantly.
sorry guys , i should of check , i got a question
how come when im on a site and i click to go back to previous site it goes all the way back ? i think this didnt make sense let me make an example
im half way on craigslist list ,i click on an ad ,when im done looking at the ad i want to go back to the list where i left off but instead it goes back to the beginning of the list

I have Google Wallet installed and I'm having a problem actually using it. My NFC works fine. I've used it for other tasks but when I try to pay with Wallet by entering my pin and then holding it against the Pay pass device but it doesn't do anything and I end up looking like an idiot. Any ideas any suggestions?

Likely the machine didn't work right or this guys didn't hold it properly or long enough. In my Otterbox Defender I physically placed my phone on the the terminal it surprisingly it took a while to trigger. Likely cause I didnt align it properly.
I have spent over 75$ using wallet.

Yes ditto. All walgreens, ASFAIK are disabled. Bestbuy is sometimes enabled, and 7-eleven sometimes the scanner is not tilted at the right angle for us to use it.

yes I have them and use them daily. I guess as a last resort before uninstalling is I'll take my case off and try it that way. Thing is that my NFC tags work with my case so never figured it might be that.
you could be using it on inactive machines too. as long as you followed the steps in tonus guide it probably works.
So I removed the case and still no go. So I guess I will remove it.

Tapping in all four corners will work to get your past the "no SIM card" screen. Search and you'll find YouTube videos showing it done. When you try it, just keep tapping the four corners in a clockwise fashion until the screen changes to the regular setup screen. I've only done it a few times but that has worked every time.
