[Review] Tempered Glass Protector - Galaxy Note 8.0 (Tablet) Accessories

Touted on the listing, as well as on the packaging, as an "Explosion-Proof Tempered Glass Protector" .... explosion proof... really?
Anyway, I thought I'd get one of these protectors for my Note 8.0, as I have and still use a similar product on my Note II and from many hours searching, the only place I could find one for the 8.0, was on Alibaba, never bought from there before and was slightly dubious at first, but thought I'd try it out.
I was quoted 30 days delivery, but came in 10 so, nice surprise.
The packaging is fairly decent, and it too came came well packaged, put it this way, I'd have been extremely surprised if it were to have broken in transit.

Inside you get some kind of alcohol wipe, a microfiber cloth and the protector of course. I also got these 2 "Raised stickers" I have yet to discover what purpose these serve, I at first thought they were to be placed next to the rear camera, to stop the lens touching a surface when placed on it's back, but it's not quite thick enough for that. So for the time being, they're going to be stored quite safely......... in the bin lol.
Unlike the usual flimsy protectors, this has cutouts for the ear piece, home button but NOT for the camera, The fact it doesn't have one for the camera, doesn't concern me however, as it doesn't appear to give any adverse affects when the front camera is in use.
Fitted and is simply excellent, feels like your using a naked tablet. No slight scoring when using the S-Pen (as I suffered with cheap eBay flimsy protectors) and generally feels like there's a lot more longevity to be had out of it.
Pros: Real easy to apply, in fact it was far easier applying this than a normal one.
Great feel, feels like your using a naked device.
Crystal clear, you don't know anything is there when looking at the screen.
Downsides (Or things to consider rather): The thickness of the "glass" (I'll get on to that "Glass" in a mo) means that the home button feels more recessed than raised once in place, but this is the case for most hard screen protectors.
Now the glass, or rather the material it's made of, I can't work out if it is actual glass, or plastic perspex? Are they calling it glass for simplicity, I'm just not sure, not that I'm bothered in the slightest, it does what I wanted it to do. But I'm sure they'll be some nitpickers out there wanting proof that some bloke made this by melting sand in a Furness lol.
Update:
Link to the protector.

Really nice.. I used zagg screen protector for Note I and Note 10.1.. never again. I've been using my Note 8 with no screen protector but this one I might try. How much is it? Could you post a link?

I use the XGearlive tempered glass protector on my SGSIII and love it. They provide a small stick-on plastic raiser for the Home Button. These guys haven't figured that out yet one supposes.
Might have to look into this. Got a link?
Found this one. The one you used?

Just had that light bulb moment haha, I forgot to say at, first I was slightly concerned about buying through Alibaba, I made an account, i went through the checkout, then I left it and went searching elsewhere.
The seller must get notified if someone goes through the checkout but doesn't complete, because they sent me a message asking if something was wrong, I said the price was too much, a bit of haggling back and forth, and I got it about 23% cheaper.

Put the stickers on the home button so it does not feel recessed. They aint for the camera lol.

Had that light bulb moment when the previous person enlightened me as to what is for. Never seen it before and no reference to it was made in the instructions.

ISmooth also has a great screen protector--probably not a strong as this but between my note 2 and note 8 these have really helped. Amazon has them and they are really easy to apply.

can you please post the link to the item? It sounds nice, but I cant find it anywhere at all for the life of me

Actually, no. I followed the same steps as you described when you ordered and didn't get anyone inquiring if there was an issue. So I just went ahead and ordered. Got confirmation of shipping yesterday. The countdown is on.....

Ahh man, perhaps you needed to leave it a bit longer, because when I added it there was a day or so that I left it after adding it to my basket and getting to the part where you pay, they sent me an email asking if there was a problem etc, etc...

I'm particularly interested in it's oleophobic qualities. Can you tell us if it really resists fingerprints like a naked screen?
All my phones are naked coz thats the best anti-fingerprint surface ya gonna get. However for the Note8, I had to get a screen protector because of the constant scribbling on it

I am interested with this also. The "naked" screen actually HAVE the BEST anti-fingerprint surface. I have the Note 1, S4 Active and now Note 8.0 and the screen resist fingerprint far better than any of the CLEAR screen protector / tempered glass out there.
However, since I use the stylus, I am afraid I will scratch the screen, so I am looking for a screen protector / tempered glass that:
1). Does not affect the responsiveness of the stylus
2). Resist fingerprint like the original screen

Ghost Armor Impressions

I've had my Nexus for less than a week now and I'm absolutely loving it, I think it looks great and I don't want to cover any of it up with a cheap looking case. The gorilla glass had me thinking I could leave the Nexus naked, well I was wrong. After only 3 days I somehow managed to accumulate multiple fine scratches on the back panel above the "Nexus" branding. I love the look and more importantly the feel of the phone that I won't even consider the official bumper so I decided to try the Ghost Armor protection.
The "full body" protection cost me $45 installed at my local mall. Installation took 30 minutes and I had to leave my Nexus with them for that time (scary I know). I was told that if I have any issues within the first week I can come back and get it fixed, after that its always $5 replace the front or back protectors if they peel, get scratched, etc...
Compared to the Zagg invisible shield I had on my Nexus S this is much better. For one the Zagg was "rubbery," had "orange peel," and the edges of the protector were visible (I think because the Zagg is thicker).
What I like about the Ghost Armor is that the front and back of the device the protectors are practically invisible. I feel like I have a much better grip on the phone. More importantly the phone doesn't slide around on tables anymore (i've already had it slide off my nightstand and desk). Also the phone attracts much less fingerprints/grease and that is a huge plus in my opinion!
What I don't like about the Ghost Armor. The multiple pieces that protect the sides of the device are just ugly, the protector gives the matte finish a glossy look that I hate. Even worse, every corner has a good 5mm gap that is unprotected, this I can't understand when corner drops are so common. As a result I am considering removing all the side protection. Also, after installation the phone cannot be put in tight pockets similar spaces until the protectors have settled and all the air bubbles dissipated so for the first 24H you really have to baby the phone. Lastly, the screen protector does not wrap extend to the tapered edges of the glass, edge swiping still works great but you can feel the protector.
Overall I am satisfied with the Ghost Armor. If you are like me and enjoy a "caseless" phone I highly recommend it. Let me know what you are using and how satisfied you are with it, also if you've got any questions.

So the crystal clear has no orange peel? And and how easy is it to clean fingerprints? I'm using BSE and it barely attracts fingerprints if at all but it has a rubbery feel to it. I just want a crystal clear protector with no fingerprints . Pictures are too small on my phone sorry. Also someone mentioned the matte, how clear is that? Is there a lot of pixation from it or is it clear?

Yes crystal clear and no orange peel. It is very slightly rubbery but my fingers slide over it just fine.
It is not fingerprint proof, but slightly better than without the protectors. I also did not clean the screen before I took those pictures.

Basically this:
I have the screen protector on mine in conjunction with the ringke slim. I like that it doesn't cover the curved edge or else the case will lift the protector. I had a ghost armor protector on my s3 and my galaxy Nexus and loved them. Doesn't have that bad of an orange peel effect and feels great.

Based on your review, I took a chance with it. There was a very small price drop on it, so I ended up paying $40+sales tax. Really like it better than the Zagg. They didn't take a long time to install it. No orange peel. Not too rubbery. It does take about an hour or two for the air bubble to dissipate. But once the time passes, it's clear.
They do sell them without installation so it should be cheaper that way. I am way too chicken to try to install it so I pay for the extra bling bling.
Now I have my Nexus 4 with the Ghost Armor and Poetic Bumper case. :good:
I too got this and I must say it was worth the money. Expensive but it looks crystal clear and attracts a lot less prints then dry protectors. Plus you can't go wrong with the lifetime warranty

Invisible Shield

Just to let you guys know that I got an invisible shield for the S4 (front only) a couple of days before launch.
fitment is perfect and covers the screen up to the point of the sensors at the top and home button. I initially wanted the one allowing a skin but given that I use the cover with the hole, this was pointless.
Also the brodit car holder I am using clips from the top where the shield does not cover so it's perfect.
Not much else to say but if anyone was after one, it's not a bad purchase. Obviously still comes with the 25 year warranty on it too.
As for feeling, yes bare screen is lovely but I personally prefer the slightly matt/textured surface as it helps type and grip better than the slippy glass surface.
I have taken a pic but you can't really see anything so I won't bother uploading unless someone does want to see.

I also picked one up. Something that should be noted is that they sell different versions. The one I picked up was the HD which was supposed to be smoother than the regular one. It isnt as smooth as glass by any means but it is considerably nicer than the older plastic ones. There was also a privacy version to prevent shoulder surfing.
I will eventually migrate over to the tempered glass I think. Waiting to hear some reviews on a good sticking one, I hate bubbles or anything of the sort.
Ah yes good point
I think there are about 4 or 5 variants. I have to say and please don't let it be an insult to yours but HD had the worst of reviews. While it was more "glassy" like, it was also more thinner and was very easy to scratch.
I went for the original and so far despite a couple of rubbings at the gym, it's still mark-free.

never did like the clarity of these things. they kind of make the screen look like it has ripples. i like the regular old screen protectors.
that being said xtremeguard.com has essentially the same product for like 80 cents each i think with the promo code 'coaster'
i bought some as backups cause they're so cheap
I just noticed after my last post that I do have a bunch of soft scratches in the screen protector. None that touched the glass of the phone but still you can see them under the right light.

I bought the invisible shield extreme. There is absolutely zero orange peel on this model. It is also crystal clear. I had a few people who hate any screen protectors comment on the clarity. It really looks and feels like there is no screen protector. The extreme is a bit thicker, but it does not effect any aspect of how the touch screen functions.
I owned the original invisible shield on my last 2 phones. I will say that the orange peel was pretty ugly. They did work as advertised though...

Thanks. Well.... I guess I'll have to decide on my own whether to pay the extra $10 for the EXTREME. Wish it was cheaper.
Well, I ended up getting both and gotta say the Extreme is definitely worth it for a couple of reasons:
1. It is thicker so there is no worry about cases pushing up on it.
2. It comes out smoother and clearer without any air bubbles, but you have to wait longer for it to even itself out.
3. Easier to apply, especially with the rest of them attached to the silly new packaging.
4. More protection obviously.
Zagg hd all the way! It looks and feels like nothing is there. No orange peel rubber feel. Plus the same easy wet install.
I got the zagg extreme for $15.

Do we really need a screen protector on this phone?

I mean its gorilla glass 3...
Obviously it scratches but not that easy I've heard and every screen protector I've used diminishes the screen, I had a Zagg HD on this and took it off cause the ridiculous haze it has.
I hate screen protectors and cases.. I always carry my devices naked (the phone not me)..
Never had an issue thus far but I am very careful with my devices..

Hmm, yeah the Zagg absolutely sucked.im thinking about getting a glas.tr slim
I currently have this one: http://www.amazon.com/Moshi-iVisor-...-2-catcorr&keywords=moshi+ivisor+xt+galaxy+s4
and am extremely happy with it. doesn't diminish quality at all. I may get the glass.tr slim and compare the two, but so far I love the moshi ivisor xt
my only gripe with it is that it is a dust magnet at first, but I'm a week in and haven't had any issues with that since the first day or two, so it may have been some static electricity or something
I am SUPER careful with my phones... and I understand the gorilla glass 3 is even more scratch resistant... but I only dropped my galaxy s3 one time, from a height of less than 2 feet onto tile, and it still left a nasty scratch right in the center.
I learned my lesson... I got the ghost-armor screen protector for the s4. Very impressed... they do an awesome job of putting it on for you as well, not a single imperfection!

Obviously it scratches but not that easy I've heard and every screen protector I've used diminishes the screen, I had a Zagg HD on this and took it off cause the ridiculous haze it has.

It really depends on how anal you are about scratches. All smartphones, regardless of their glass, have a thin oleophobic coating on them. Its ehat gives the glass that nice, slipper feeling and what makes it easy to clean with just a swipe. This coating gets scratched relatively easily, but the scratches are really only visible when light is reflected on the screen at certain angles. If you care about these kind of scratches, id say get a screen protector. I posted a thread here noting micro scratches on an S4 demo unit that was only a few days old.
Having said that, if you wear earings with precious stones or have a gf/bf that does....get a screen protector! They will ruin your phone. I had the sapphire face on my watch scratched because it came in contact with my girlfriends diamond ring while walking side by side. If you work outdoors, or are a beach bum, get a screen protector for sure as well. A bit of sand on your fingers or shirt can scratch the phone it you swipe it or try to clean it on a your shirt. I personally think its better safe than sorry.....wrap it up son
Don't have a head full of gas. Cover your glass

[REVIEW] Halo Premium Anti-Glare/Matte Screen Protector

Promised to do a review on this screen protector, so paulo this one's for you. Haha. Well I've had this screen protector on for about 4 weeks now, and I absolutely love it. I would definitely recommend it, especially for those on a budget. A $5.95 well spent.
Pros:
Dry application
Precise cut outs
Great touch responsiveness (Swyping with this bad boy is a breeze.)
No fingerprints
No smudges
Better visibility in sunlight
Looks sexy lol
Cons:
Took me 2 out of the 3 protectors to get it on right, or without bubbles. Maybe I'm just not good at that.
Screen quality degradation (This is expected with a anti-glare/matte screen protector. There is some pixelation, which is really noticeable on white backgrounds.)
You can but it HERE.
Pictures that took me forever.

Thanks for the review. I already ordered mine and just wanted to check out some more images of it. Out of curiosity, what case are you using? Also is there a notice gap between the protector and the lip of the case? The first few images make it seem like it, but the rest make the gap appear small.

I'm guessing you are taking about the difference between this picture of the screen protector:
vs
Well there are two reasons.
1. I didn't apply the screen protector perfectly. You can also see the little bubbles created by dust left on the screen. So I took it off, and tried again.
2. Two different cases. I doubt this affects it, however, considering I switch the cases out per week and the gap between the screen protector and the case doesn't increase or shrink.
I have two cases. The white one the Mercury TPU Nexus 4 case(comes in many different colors), and the black one is the Acase Superleggera Pro Hybrid dual layer Nexus 4 case(also comes in different assortments).
I'm also using this screen protector and I love it too, great price ya can't go wrong with these. ????

I bought this screen protector 3 months ago but never used it, as it looks like a hassle to apply if it takes going through most of them to get one that is applied properly. I just kept the stock plastic protector on mine; maybe after that gets destroyed I will give it a try.

its pretty simple just be quick, and i would day do it in the restroom, less dust in the air. always works for me.
I've installed countless screen protectors for me and friends. For the wet ones, you definitely want to be in a steamy bathroom as that helps settle the dusts. The dry ones, need to be done quickly. You can slip a small piece of tape between the screen and the screen protector to grab some of the dust. The stickiness of the tape beats the static force created by the protector. Not sure of its technical name.
My silliest method was to put the phone in the middle, on top of a fan blowing air upwards. That way it created a space where dust will not be. It worked perfectly.
Any place to buy this internationally?

Man. That sucks. Well honestly if you wanted to. I could buy one and then post it up onto eBay and you could buy it off of me for the same price. Just the shipping cost would be different since you're international. Not trying to advertise or anything just suggesting.

i`m surprised that there is no bubbling at the edges at the price the Halo is selling... or is it not caught on the picture?
I assume this will be the same for the glossy version?

Not sure man. Try looking for it in the amazon website in your country.

I mean, I guess there is. But to notice the bubbling you would have to nitpicking or looking in with a magnifying glass (not really). I'd say the bubbling on the side is about .25 cm from the edge. Really slight, and with my case on you can't notice it.
Slightly off topic, but what case is that on your N4 OP?

Glass screen protector

Got a cheap glass screen protector online, once applied 4 edges don't stick properly like others, but it comes with a little brush and some kind of oil/adhesive once you brushed it the gap is gone. Final result looks pretty good, let's see how long it will last.

Hmmm sounds lime the olive oil trick. It would be great if it's adhesive sjomehow though. Update us after a few days because the oil trick usually stops working a little at that point.
New upgraded glass protector just hit Amazon. Ordered so we'll see. Has curved edges.

I saw that too. If it's like the Ozero ones I got for the HTC U11, there won't be any adhesive over the screen itself just along the black edges. However since there's is barely any bezel I wonder how they will do it. Keep us posted!

Will do. Same issue happened with the Nexus 6, and some Japanese company produced a curved glass that fit perfect. Might still have an extra as I can't remember the company name. Fingers crossed for this one though.

I ordered the Orzero and have glue only on the edges. Is working fine so far, and I didn't lose nothing in terms of display size.
EDIT. The screen protector started to coming loose today. The glue seems to start to become weak on the top part of the screen and is lifting badly. I will send an email to the vendor at Amazon for return.
Was working beautifully the first 2 days I don't know what happened.

Yup the cheap one doesn't work as it starts to come off near the edge. Don't buy, lol

Not sure if it'll work with this phone but on my PXL and the Supershieldz TGSP, I put 2 stacks of copy paper on it after I applied to apply pressure on the tgsp. It actually worked great and I didn't have a halo affect. However, the protector was nowhere near the edges. Shot in the dark but hey, wouldn't hurt to try. Nothing to use except the time u wont be able to use the phone when you have something heavy on it. Shouldn't have to worry about it breaking since it's ceramic. Lol I'm going to try that once I get my replacement w/ the Orzero 3pk. Will return it or just ask for a refund if it doesn't work.
Ok I got the updated Ozero installed and it's mostly nice. Fit wise it's perfect and their is zero halo. However, and it may be from as mentioned above with the adhesive only on the edges I have a chromatic aberration section right in the middle. Not sure if it will do down or maybe the glass or my phones glass is curved slightly. We'll see. But fit wise it's close to perfect. Plus you get 3 of them.
Sent from my PH-1 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
From my person experience any tgsp w/o adhesive on the actual display area will never look as nice as ones w/ the adhesive in that area. I have one such installed on my LG X Charge and while it works well, you know there's a space between the tgsp and the display. There is also the rainbow effect you get occasionally. I'm still definitely going to try the Ozero, as it's better than nothing! Lol

Yeah I'll try to get some posted tomorrow. So far it's great. Still have that chromatic middle section that is a little iritating but fit is perfect.

I'm seeing that issue too. It fits perfectly and feels really smooth too. Kinda sucks that I won't be able to keep it on because the chromatic aberration is annoying.

Yeah unfortunately it's inherent to these types of protectors where there's no adhesive over the screen. Hopefully someone will come out with a full cover like this but with adhesive on the screen. Lamshaw makes one for the HTC U11 and I love it.
I do have a question. Does the Orzero leave fingerprints like crazy? The Orzero I had for my U11 I swear had no oleophobic coating at all. It was awful.

So this one does have an oleophobic coating however it's not that great. It's definitely better and lesser of a fingerprint magnet than the ceramic back.

I really don't think it is bad with fingerprints. Pics. You can see the chromatic area in a couple of them. In certain lighting it's not noticable, others a lot though.

yup that's exactly how it looks like on my LG X Charge w/ the same type of tgsp. Again, it's better than being naked. Right now my replacement is naked w/ only a skin on the back. The Ozero isn't available until next week so unfortunately going to have to wait...

Oh did you try placing something heavy on it to flatten it as much as possible, that may help.
I remember a trick back in the old old Otterbox days where someone took a dab of baby powder on a cloth and wiped the inside of the screen protector with it and that prevented it from sticking to the screen causing the newton rings.
